Tony looked up with wide eyes. Steve was standing in front of him. Steve was in front of him! That couldn't be possible. It wasn't possible. There was no way Steve could have worked the watch to bring him back. Only he (Tony) could do that!

"No, no, no, that's not possible! You can't be here!" Tony yelled, jumping to his feet. "I must be going crazy. Yeah, that's gotta be it. All the alcohol is getting to me," Tony suddenly threw the glass in his hand at Steve.

"Woah!" Steve caught the glass before it could hit him. "Tony… are you okay?" Steve put the glass on the counter as he approached his beloved.

"N- No, I, I'm not alright," Tony hiccuped. "You're not really here. You're gone. Somewhere I can never reach you." Tony whipped his eyes, stopping the tears from flowing down his face.

"I am here Tony, I promise," Steve reached out and touched his face, stroking his cheek gently. "I'm right here." Steve finally took in Tony's appearance. He looked dirty, unshaven and unshowered. His shirt hadn't been changed for a few days, making it look sticky and greasy, and his hair wasn't slicked back. "Come on Tony, you need a shower." Steve took him by the hand and lead them to Tony's bedroom, which had a conjoined shower.

Tony stopped before entering the shower, he turned to look at Steve "Will you still be here when I come out?" Steve nodded. Tony's voice dropped to a pathetic whisper, "Will you come in with me?" Steve nodded. He wouldn't enter the shower with Tony, but he would wait for him.

After a silent shower, Tony popped his head out to see Steve still sitting there. If he was a hallucination or some kind of sick joke his mind was playing on him, he still looked like himself. Soft childish face, wide broad shoulders, lovely muscles. Like he had never left.

Steve handed him a towel to tie around his waist then handed him a razor. Tony gave him a quizzical look. "You haven't shaved for a few days. You need to shave." Tony nodded and took the razor. Steve pointed to the door, "I'll be right outside cleaning up your room. When you're done come out, okay?" Tony only nodded, still not believing Steve was telling him what to do.

After getting cleaned and shaving, Tony entered his room. Clothes were laid out on the bed, waiting for him, but Steve was gone. Tony swallowed disappointment as he got dressed. He knew it was too good to be true. Steve wasn't really here. It was all a sick joke.

Before Tony could do anything crazy, like take out his Reactor, Steve entered the room again. Tony gave him a disbelieving look. Steve could only hold up his pajamas.

"Sorry, all your clothes are too tiny for me," Tony walked over to Steve, looking at the pajamas in his hand and taking the shirt. Steve was going to protest when Tony pulled off his shirt and put Steve's on. "Okay… Are you ready for bed?" Tony nodded mutely. It was disturbing to Steve that Tony could become so silent. He was usually so upbeat and cocky, but right now he looked like a broken man with nothing left to live for.

Steve ushered Tony into the bed, before crawling in beside him. He needed to be near Tony as much as Tony needed to be near him right now. Tony scooted closer, nuzzling into Steve's chest. Steve smiled down at him and kissed the top of his head.

"Go to sleep Tony, I promise I'll be here tomorrow morning and every morning after." Steve pulled Tony against him as he felt the smaller man slip into a peaceful sleep.

~~~Morning~~~
When Tony woke, he was wrapped in something soft and warm. He loved it. It made him feel like a child again. Safe and protected. Before his father started drinking.
Then the events of last night came rushing back. Tony's eyes shot open and his head snapped up. Steve's face was only a few inches from his. Steve was here. Steve was real. But that couldn't be. Tony had sent him back in time so he would be happy. Had something happened with the watch? Could it have malfunctioned? There had to be a reason Steve was in his room, sleeping in his be. Would Steve want to go back? Was that it?
"Stop thinking," Steve grumbled, peaking one eye open to see Tony staring at him. "You're thinking too loud, stop it. I'm trying to sleep." Steve closed his eyes again.
"Why- how are you here?" Tony blurted out before he could stop himself. Steve didn't move for a minute, making Tony assume the worst.
"I came back for you." Steve started. "It's a long story, but it ends with me finding you as a child and asking you to help me with the watch." Tony looked down to Steve's wrist were the watch was. Was. "I tossed in out the window." Steve said, answering Tony's unasked question. "Next time you do something stupid like that I don't know what I'd do." Steve looked into Tony's eyes, "I don't want you pushing me away again. Okay? Promise?"
Tony nodded, "I promise, but why? You said you came back for me? Why? Do you have some vendetta against me?" Steve scoffed.
"If I had a vendetta I wouldn't have come back. Tony, I came back because I love you," Tony gasped, searching Steve's face for any lies. There were none.
"Steve I-" the sound of Tony's room door slamming against the wall, broke Steve and Tony out of their moment.
Clint, Natasha, and Bruce were all in the door way. Clint was the first one to speak.
"OH GOD! MY EYES!" He pulled out before he could say anymore. He had been traumatized enough for one morning.
"I- uh- sorry," Bruce pulled the door closed. Leaving Steve and Tony in an awkward silence.
"Tony-"
"Never mind Cap. It was nothing." Tony said, pulling away from the taller man, but Steve wasn't about to let him go.
"Tony," Steve said sternly, pulling Tony back to his chest and entrapping him in a cage of arms. "Tell me what you were going to say before the others came in." Tony shook his head. "Tony, tell me. Now."
"I wanted to say that I love you too! Okay! But they ruined it. I wanted it to be special," Tony pouted, Steve chuckled.
"Coming from you, it'll always be special." Steve tilted Tony's face up so he could kiss him on the lips.
"Best wake up ever."
