A/N: Hello everyone! Missed ya! Been writing over in the True Blood, Twilight, and Fifty Shades Fanfiction. But don't worry. I haven't forgotten my first love.
All mistakes are my own.
I do not own TO or TVD.
Three weeks later….
"Knock knock, guess who's here?"
Rolling her eyes, Caroline slid her glasses up to her hair as Katherine strolled in, with her twin following behind.
"I tried to tell her you were busy, Caroline." Elena explained.
"It's fine, Elena. You know how your sister can be."
"Hey! You know I can hear you both," Katherine snorted, plopping down into one of the many chairs in Caroline's office.
"Yes, we know. Now what brings you by?"
Yawning, Katherine smirked at her big ass diamond before holding out her hand.
"Bitch, I'm engaged!"
Eyes wide, Caroline ran over and picked up her hand.
"You lie! That's why you've been MIA for the past couple of weeks? I thought you were on assignment?"
"Well, work has picked up, but yeah, most of my time has been spent fu-"
"Kat," Elena replied tiredly. Smirking, Kat winked at her sister before crossing her legs. She continued to watch as Caroline examined her ring. While she was admiring her big ass ruby she slid in her thoughts.
"Plus, I wanted to give you some time to adjust. You know, with Klaus Mikaelson being your BABY DADDY AND ALL!"
Running over to her office door, Caroline slammed it shut.
"Kat! Keep your voice down!"
"Why? I thought everyone was aware of the child's father but me. thought I saw it announced on the news and all."
"Okay, Kat, I get it."
"No, you don't we are friends. I thought you would've have told me, or at least my sister. Then I could've gotten it from her."
Elena narrowed her eyes but silently agreed with her sister. Taking a seat, she glanced at the blonde.
"I had no clue, Caroline. That must've been hard keeping that from everyone."
Shrugging, Caroline glanced away.
"I had to keep this a secret. If word got out, it would be a blood bath." Frowning, Katherine sat back and studied Caroline as she headed back around her desk to sit at her intricately carved table.
"I work for the flipping FBI, and even I wouldn't have guessed that. You had help. You had to. Was it someone from the bureau? Someone I know?"
Sighing, Caroline shook her head.
"No. I had no help. Only Steven, and a friend of his. But that was all the help I got. Trust me."
"Care, how did you keep this a secret? And why?" Caroline tried to mull over Elena's question, but every time she would try to open her mouth, she wouldn't answer it. Katherine could see her struggle, and decided to press her more.
"Caroline. Keeping this bottled in isn't helping anyone."
Glancing out the window, she sighed, suddenly looking much older than her age.
"Even if it's to keep everyone safe. Even if it's to prevent the worst?"
Concerned, Kat stood.
"You have to tell me. Whatever it is, we can fix it."
Smiling sadly, Caroline stood.
"It will be revealed in due time. I'm sure when that time has come, you will all have your assumptions about me."
Walking around the desk, Kat gently placed her hand on Caroline's shoulder.
"Well, change my perception. I'm asking you to tell me so we can change the narrative to a positive one."
Stepping back, Caroline shook her head, before glancing at Elena.
"Is Stefan here?"
Standing, she cleared her throat.
"Why yes, but-
"Good. I'm heading over to the Mikaelson estate. Klaus is with Grayson today, and I have to pick him up before his piano lessons."
"But dad, I don't want to go!"
Ignoring the amused look on Elijah's face, Klaus looked into his son's eyes. The eyes that were narrowed on him in defiance.
"He's definitely your son," Elijah mumbled under his breath. Ignoring his brother, Klaus sighed.
"I know, Grayson, but this is how it has to be. Your mother only wants you here during the day. Maybe we can change that, but until then-"
"Until then, what?"
Although he didn't want to go, Grayson was thrilled to see Caroline.
"Mama!"
Running to where she was standing by the door, he wrapped his arms around her waist. Caroline was laughing at how tightly he squeezed her, and Klaus took in the sight. Today Caroline wore her hair in some fancy twist, and instead of her typical dress she was wearing jeans and a v-neck green t-shirt. She was wearing heeled boots, and a leather jacket, and Klaus could not believe how sexy Caroline could make a simple outfit. Elijah could see his brother was tongue-tied and decided to break the silence.
"Caroline, so lovely to see you again."
Picking Grayson up, and setting him on her hip, she kissed his cheek before beaming at Elijah.
"You as well. I just spoke with Katherine. I hear some congratulations are in order."
Smiling at the thought of his fiancé, he nodded.
"Thank you. I do apologize for keeping your friend away from you. It was not my intention." Smiling a bit sadly, she shrugged.
"It's fine. When one finds their true love, it is inevitable that other relationships change." Elijah nodded at her sage wisdom. Clearing her throat, she directed her attention to Klaus.
"I heard you say something about change. Change, what?"
looking between his brother, and Caroline, Elijah winked at Grayson before leaving. Walking closer to her, Caroline did a quick sweep of his person, noting the jeans, boots, and this time white Henley he was wearing. His necklaces were peeking out of his shirt, and Caroline thought the man looked insanely hot.
"Well-"
"I want to stay, mama. I want to stay the night, but daddy says I hafta ask you first." Grayson replied, thinking his dad was taking too long. Smiling at her son, she kissed his cheek once more before setting him down.
"You want to stay?"
Nodding furiously, Grayson stood closer to Klaus.
"Dad says I can build planes with Uncle Kol, and Aunt Bonnie said she'd let me hear the baby tonight. Please mama?"
Glancing over at Klaus, she gave him a silent message that they needed to talk. Placing his hand on Grayson's shoulder, he smiled down at his son.
"Grayson. Head to the kitchen. Ask the cook to make you some cookies."
Eyes wide at the thought of sweets, he took off in the direction of the kitchen. Once they were left alone, he shoved his hands into his pockets.
"How are you, Caroline?"
Smiling, she nodded, before mirroring him.
"I'm well. Been busy today at work. Has it been busy with your-"
"Construction business? Yes. Along with the music business I fund."
Surprised, Caroline smiled.
"I didn't know you did that?"
Stepping closer to her, he held out his arm, giving her the option of taking it. Before thinking too much about it, she slid her hand into his before Klaus directed them to his office.
"Yeah. I own a small art gallery in addition to a music company." Lowering his voice, he sighed.
"I wasn't lying when I said I've been working feverishly to turn everything legitimate." Saying nothing, Caroline only nodded. After a while, she replied.
"I believe you."
For the past several weeks, Caroline and Klaus settled into a routine. He would stop by to see Grayson, and Caroline would drop him off, or pick him up when it was his time to keep him. Stefan was the driver for the little boy, and although initially shy, now the two couldn't stay apart from each other. Ever since Caroline's ex-mother in law showed up at her doorstep, Klaus hired additional men to keep an eye on Caroline when she wasn't aware. He heard everything, and he kept replaying the conversation on repeat.
She'd been through so much, and was such a strong woman. He was already in love with her, but the fact that she carried his son, amidst his sudden absence, and pressure from the Lockwood's was astounding. He wanted to show her how much he wanted her, but every time he though he saw something in her eyes, she would freeze up, or change the subject. He couldn't force her, but the distance wasn't good. Plus, he knew she was hiding something, and he didn't know how to feel about it. Once they entered his office, he closed the door and leaned against it, watching as Caroline explored his library.
"It's small, but it has all the basics."
"I can see that," Caroline remarked, picking up Leo Tolstoy. Setting the book back down, she quietly spoke.
"I do not mind Grayson staying over. Ironically, I know he is the safest little boy here, with you being his father and all."
"Is that an insult," Klaus said instantly on the defensive. Laughing quietly, she shook her head.
"No. Quite the opposite, actually it was a compliment. It's not that I don't trust you, Klaus. It's that I can't trust myself."
Tilting his head, Klaus watched as Caroline's hand shook briefly before she set down another book she was holding.
"Caroline," he started.
"It's hard for me to leave him alone. God, Klaus you don't know what it did to me when I had to leave him in San Francisco. I knew he was safe with Steven, I knew he would watch over him, and take care of him, but they, they made me. My baby," Caroline gasped out before leaning against his desk. Uncaring of personal boundaries, Klaus pulled Caroline into his arms, while trying to calm her.
"Shh. I know, love. You did the best you could in the position you were placed in. But that boy loves you. He worships the ground you walk on. He doesn't feel deserted by you. He only wants to spend more time with me. I also want to spend more time with him, if that would be okay."
Wiping her face, she rested in his strong arms, while trying to pull herself together. Sniffling, she laughed lightly before waving off his look of concern.
"Don't mind me. I'm just a mom. It happens, sometimes. Ugh, I must look a mess."
Tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, he shook his head.
"No, Caroline. You could never look a mess." She could see he was about to kiss her, and instead of giving in like she wanted to do, she cleared her throat. When she tried to take a step back, she found herself stuck to a smirking man.
Darn him.
"Klaus. What are you-"
Sighing, as if unaffected by her struggles, he pulled her tighter against his body.
"I will let you go on the condition that you go out with me. On a date."
Laughing nervously, she looked away.
"I um, I don't think that would be wise."
"Really? Why not? I would like to take you out."
"Klaus-"
"Caroline. Come on love, take a chance with me. I know I fucked up-"
"Yeah, you did-"
"But I'm trying to make this right. We need to be together. It's the only way we'll be happy." Without asking, he placed his lips on her neck, and gently bit the soft skin. Caroline gasped and fell forward in his grip, which caused his mouth to slide from her neck to the top of her chest. Instinctively, she reached up and placed her fingers through his hair. It was driving her crazy to see his mouth place kisses on her chest, occasionally licking her soft skin just above the v of her shirt. Breathless, she was about to protest, when he slid his mouth from her middle, to her lips. Covering them completely, Klaus kissed her as if a man possessed.
And she loved every minute of it. Sighing, she immediately opened her mouth, whimpering at how quickly his tongue began to tangle with hers. Just as she was about to throw caution to the wind, she heard a knock at the door, followed by Grayson shouting.
"Daddy! Daddy, let me in!"
Pulling away with a gasp, Caroline tried to cover her swollen lips with her fingers, but Klaus gently removed her hand before covering her lips once more, this time more softly.
"I love you, Caroline."
Blinking back tears, she shook her head.
"Stop it, Klaus."
"No. I'm never going to stop saying it. I love you, and I always will. If you say yes to that date, I can show you how much I love you."
She could see in his eyes that he was serious, and what alarmed her was how quickly she was starting to see his honesty. Pulling away, she whispered.
"No. I'm not ready. I can't do this right now."
Heading to the door, she was about to unlock it, when his voice stopped her cold.
"You can't keep running, love. Sooner, or later you'll have to face this thing between us."
Ignoring that statement, she turned, and narrowed her eyes over her shoulder. She was angry that the man looked so calm and poised leaning against his desk.
"Grayson can spend the night. Please have him home tomorrow."
Love you all, miss you all! Leave me a review. Don't worry, I'm still writing this story, just been so busy!
