They managed to get through Christmas with the kids by purely putting all their attention onto them and avoiding each other and as new year was only two days away she expected this to continue. What helped was Andrew had worked each day so there was less time to get under the others foot but they hadn't spoken since everyone at work found out about the baby and the more they put it off the worse things were getting. She was 11 weeks now how long did he think he could ignore it for? Did he really think he could pretend she wasn't pregnant when she was 30 odd weeks? This was hardly going to go away. The boys were both upstairs playing with the gameboys they'd got for Christmas so the house was hushed, well as much as it would ever be. She was on her hands and knees trying to tidy up the living room, there was toys everywhere not to mention tinsel the cat had dragged across the room. she didn't really have the energy for housework but she had little choice in the matter. No one else were going to do it were they?
As much as he'd avoided his wife the past few days he knew they needed to speak but he was also well aware how badly this conversation was going to go. For anyone on the outside looking in he must seem to be impossible to understand and he knew that. When Lisa had told him she was pregnant with Peter he didn't know anything about her yet was delighted at the prospect of having a baby yet now he'd known her for eleven years, on and off, he found the prospect of a third child too big a step. It really simply was a case of ignorance is bliss. He loved the boys and wouldn't be without them but they were a handful and their lives were already so busy how on earth would they have time for another child? He barely got a second alone with Lisa as it was and he knew a baby would do away with that little amount of time completely. Maybe he was being selfish but he wasn't willing to split his time any further not give up the little time he got with his wife for anything. It wasn't for purely selfish reasons that he didn't want another child he was also terrified at what could happen to Lisa if they did proceed with this pregnancy, she got so ill the last time and he didn't want to risk anything happening to her again. It wasn't worth it but he knew and knew she wasn't going to see it like that. He needed to try to get her to see sense before this got too far. Heading into the living room she was on her knees tiding up after the boys, she was dressed in a pale blue jumper that made her long hair shine more than it already would and dark jeans. She looked lovely, content. Trying not to get distracted by her he coughs slightly to get her attention.
"Oh." Turning to look at him she knew he had something on his mind and that made her heart race. "You alright?" Taking in a deep breath he nods before gesturing towards the couch.
"Yes, can we talk?" She glances towards the stairs before saying a word, he knew what she was thinking. "The boys are busy playing Pokemon." She'd been trying for weeks to get him to talk and now it came down to it she didn't want to talk. Pushing herself off the floor she refuses to sit next to him, not wanting to be influenced by his closeness. Before he could say a word she had to get in first, explain herself.
"Okay but first I need to say something," He already knew her point of view, what else was there to be said? "I swear I didn't tell Dan and the last thing I wanted was for anyone to announce it. I told Charlie." He knew he could get easily distracted from what he had to say but he had to answer that.
"Why did you tell Charlie? I told you I wasn't comfortable with anyone knowing."
"I needed to talk to someone Andrew, he's my best friend." Looking at her feet she sighs. "It was pointless anyway, he took the news purely as my boss. I did ask him not to pass it onto Dan but 'it's policy.'I was as shocked as you." That did help, slightly, to know she hadn't gone behind his back to announce it. He didn't wish to be dragged into a conversation about Charlie, that would be a big rabbit hole.
"Well I'm glad it wasn't some trick and before you say it I know you wouldn't do that. Anyway…" He needed to say the words. "I've had time to think."
She knew that face, he wasn't going to accept this was he? He couldn't make it easy. He was going to ask her to get an abortion, she knew it. She knew him too well.
"Don't. Please Andrew…" staring at her confused, how did she do this every time? Moving closer to her he didn't like the distance.
"Don't what?" Shaking her head he wasn't helping, didn't he understand what he was expecting of her?
"I know that face…I can't do it." He attempted to places his hands on her but she forcefully pushes him away.
"Lisa listen to me…" She was getting herself worked up before he even had a chance to explain.
"No!" Getting to her feet she shakes her head. " I can't, please don't ask me." Tears now, why always tears?
"If you'd just listen to me, let me explain…" Getting to his own feet now he hated that she always insisted on moving so far away during an argument.
"Explain?! Nothing you say is going to convince me that an abortion is the right path." She continues to walk away from him until she accidentally backs herself into a corner with no escape.
"But if you think about it rationally Lisa, it's simply ludicrous to think about adding another child to our family. We don't have the time and at our ages…" Pushing her palms into his chest she tries to get past him to no avail.
"Stop! Stop it and think about what you are asking me! You've seen what it does to woman and you think I could do it?! There's no way!" He refuses to let her move, she was going to listen regardless of if she wanted to, he grabs her wrists putting her to a stop.
"Listen to me Lisa, please." Still fighting with him to get past, so much so she knew her wrists would bruise she needed away. She couldn't look at him.
"No! You listen to me, I will not do it!"
