Chapter 7: Happy Valentine's Day.
Haru's POV
I got out of bed and quickly threw on my uniform. I walked out of my room and down the hall, passing all of the other vampires without a word said. Just as I was about to walk out of the dormitory, someone grabbed my wrist.
"Where are you going so early in the afternoon," asked a familiar silk-like voice.
I turned around and looked up at the dark-haired menace, "To get some fresh air. Why do you give a damn?"
He grinned as he slid his hand down from my wrist to my hand and intertwined our fingers, "I'll come with you."
I rose a brow, "How about not," I scoffed, jerking my hand out of his as I walked out the door. I ran my fingers through my hair as I began walking down the path that led towards the gate.
There's still another hour or so before the switchover, so I might as well just walk around for a while.
After I passed the gate, I saw a certain silver-haired boy sitting against a tree. I chuckled lightly as I walked over towards him and crouched down, "Aye, princess, it's time to wake up."
His eyes fluttered open and he glared daggers at me, "I wasn't sleeping."
I put my elbow on my knee and rested my chin in the palm of my hand, "Oh, really? 'Cause that's not what it looked like."
He sighed as he sat up straight, "Shouldn't you be in your room or something?"
I rose a brow, "Shouldn't you be in class? Surely they don't let you skip just because you're in the disciplinary committee."
He shot me yet another glare as he stood up, "What do you want?"
I stood up as well and crossed my arms, "I came to pay my end of the deal. You already did your part, remember? Now it's my turn."
A slight blush spread across his face when I unbuttoned my jacket to reveal my neck, and he looked away awkwardly, "Wouldn't your... classmates be able to smell your blood?"
I shrugged, "So? I can just tell them I cut my hand on something."
"Alright, then," he mumbled, still avoiding eye contact.
I was almost tempted to comment on how out of character he was being, but I refrained myself from doing so. I took a step forward as I tilted my head and held my collar down, waiting for him to get this over with.
The mere glimpse of my neck caused his eyes to glow a bright crimson shade, exposing his bloodlust. He put one arm around my waist and the other on my shoulder as he slowly closed the distance between us. His fangs lightly grazed my neck before quickly piercing through the skin.
I winced at the sudden sharp feeling that spread throughout my entire body, but the pain vanished almost instantly. After a minute or two of just standing there, I started to feel lightheaded. "Okay, Zero," I said, gently pushing him back with my left hand.
He wouldn't budge. He just stood there and continued to drain the blood out of my body.
"Zero," I stated more sternly, "That's enough!" Just as I said that, I pushed him back using more force.
He fell backwards, hitting his back against the tree. He wiped away the blood that was dripping from the corners of his mouth, "Sorry about that..."
I shifted my gaze to the ground as I covered the wound on my neck with my hand, "It's fine... You should really get to class, though. Kaname will be here any minute, so I think it'd be best if you weren't here..."
He nodded as he dropped his hand to his side and started walking in the direction of the school building.
Once he was out of sight, I buttoned my jacket back up and covered my neck with my hair.
Just as I had predicted, Kaname came walking up behind me. "What happened," he asked, staring at me with usual solemn gaze.
I crossed my arms, "What are you talking about?"
"I could smell your blood all the way from my room," he said, never breaking eye contact, "What happened?"
I tilted my head and put on a false smile, "I scratched my hand on one of the tree branches."
He grabbed my wrist and roughly brought it towards him, scanning it with his piercing crimson orbs. He rose a brow as he looked back at me, "There's blood, but no wound. Why is that?"
"I can heal, dipshit," I retorted, jerking my hand away from him.
He narrowed his eyes at me as he pushed my hair behind my shoulders, "Then why do I also smell blood coming from here? See, there's some on your neck. How did that happen?"
I looked away, "I probably got it there while I was fixing my collar."
"And why would you have to fix your collar," he asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
I furrowed my brows as I looked directly into his eyes, "Honestly, Kaname. What's it matter to you what happens to me? I already told you that I cut my hand. Quit overthinking it."
He leaned in towards me and paused with his lips right beside my ear, "And I already told you that it was easy for me to tell when you're lying," he whispered. He then pulled away and turned around, "I know he bit you, Haru." With that said, he walked away.
He doesn't scare me, so why is my heart beating so quickly?
I sighed heavily as I ran my fingers through my hair, "Why does he do this to me?"
"Who did you make chocolates for, Yuuki," asked one of the Day Class girls.
I crossed my arms and tilted my head as I narrowed my eyes at the two girls.
A blush spread across Yuuki's face as she tucked her hair behind her ear, "Oh, me? I made some for Kaname..."
I scoffed as I dropped both of my arms down to my side and walked away. I turned around to see how far away I was from everyone.
Everyone in the dormitory except for Kaname was a long way from the gate. Kaname, however, was standing right beside the gate, talking to Yuuki.
I watched as she handed him her chocolates.
A bright smile spread across his face as he accepted them. I don't think I've ever seen him smile a smile as genuine as the one that was on his face in that moment.
I didn't bother waiting for the other Night Class members to make it past the gate, I just kept on walking towards the school building.
"Haru," Zero said, stopping me in my tracks.
I turned around to face him, "What is it?"
"What's wrong," he asked in a cautious tone.
I furrowed my brows, "What do you mean?"
"You're crying," he said as a worried expression claimed his face.
I put my hand up to my face and felt something wet on the tips of my fingers.
Tears...
I put my hand down and looked at the ground, "It's nothing." Immediately after I said that, I turned around and briskly started walking away. I walked in the opposite direction of the school building, and ended up at the bridge where the pond was.
The wind was blowing softly, ruffling my long ebony hair in the process.
I rested my elbows on the railing of the bridge as I stared off into the distance. I sighed, "Why the hell am I crying?"
"Perhaps it's because you're upset," said an all to familiar stoic voice.
I rose both of my brows as I stood up straight and faced Kaname, "And why would I be upset?"
He looked down at the ground in an ashamed manner, "Because I was acting stupid."
I placed my hands in my pockets as I tilted my head, "Huh, is that so," I questioned in a sarcastic tone.
He took a step forward and bore his eyes into mine, "I'm sorry, Haru..."
I looked away, "What are you apologizing for?"
He grabbed my chin with his thumb and index finger, making me look at him, "For upsetting you. It's my fault that you were crying. How can I ever make it up to you?"
"By accepting this," I said, pulling a small box out of my pocket.
He looked down and smiled warmly, "It'd be my pleasure."
Heat spread across my face as I looked away, "Yeah, yeah. Just eat your damn chocolates," I huffed as I pushed the box into his chest.
He chuckled as he took it out of my hand and put it in his pocket, "Gladly, but first..."
I rose a brow and looked back at him, "What?"
Before I could even process what was going on, Kaname's lips crashed against mine.
My eyes widened and my heart was beating rapidly. It felt as if time had stopped in that very moment.
He pulled away with a devious smirk, "Happy Valentine's day, Haru."
