Hi everyone (don't worry this is a chapter and not just an author's note) hope you're all enjoying! Thanks for the positive reviews and please feel free to ask me anything - I just wanted to clear up something I read in the reviews section of the story. It's from TK (cool name) and goes like this... TK has abs...at 14? lol that's ridiculous. And from doing what? Basketball? That's not how it works. He's a stick (and at 14, he should be). Matt, especially at 17, could beat him up any day. Seen the end of 02? Matt's buffer than all the guys. You don't need to play a sport to get abs, fyi.[sic]
I thought I'd just remind TK and anyone else who has similar views that this story is an alternative telling of the original which also means that some details have been changed by yours truly. Like for example TK in the series is quite the small/skinny guy but in mine he isn't (hence the abs which by the way, are not at all an unheard of feat amongst 14 year old guys (I happen to know a few guys who had abs at 14)) and I never said he got his abs from playing basketball, we just happen to know that he plays the sport which is probably why the assumption was made. As for Matt, well 'buff' was never a term I used to describe him but hey, everyone's entitled to an opinion ;)
Anyways hope that clears a few things up...enjoy the next chapter! :)
Tai sprinted ahead to the booths. This was amazing! With a landline they'd be able to call help straight away – plus he wouldn't have to listen to Izzy be a jerk just because he'd fed his Digimon two grubby sandwiches. The others were following in hot pursuit. He reached the first booth and grabbed the receiver, who should he call? His dad? Maybe just to let him know he was safe, he dug around for some change in his pocket but couldn't come up with much, in fact only enough for one call, maybe he ought to just call the coast guard first, or the police. Just as he was about to drop his change in the phone began to ring. Surprised he answered,
"Hello?" the line went dead, that was odd. But then again probably just a wrong number. Another phone began to ring and Tai heard Matt answer it and then his line went dead too. Now that was a little freaky, Tai shrugged and dialled for the emergency services.
"Good afternoon," came a woman's voice
"Oh hi there," Tai began but was cut off
"The number you are dialling is incorrect, please hang up and do not try again." The line went dead and Tai blinked at the receiver in his hand. He poked his head into Matt's booth next to him, he was on the line,
"Who are you calling?" Tai mouthed to him
"My dad," Matt replied "I just tried the emergency services and got a really bizarre message,"
"Same here," Tai said, waiting for Matt's dad to answer the phone, there was a beep and he and Matt heard another woman's voice
"The number you have dialled is imaginary and exists only in your head, please hang up."
"WHAT?" Matt frowned and slammed the phone down "what a piece of junk!" All around them the same thing was happening to the others, until one by one they had used up almost all of their change or had given up and gone to sit on the sand.
"Well that was a waste of time," Tai pouted flopping down on the sand.
"This only strengthens my theory that we're in a parallel universe," Izzy said, everyone groaned fed up with his wild speculation. Tai sighed and rolled over to face the sea. He noticed something odd in the near distance, it looked like some sort of giant shell sticking out of the water. He was about to point it out to the others when the ground beneath him began to rumble and up ahead the waves at the shore began to get bigger. He wasn't the only one who noticed it, TK called out and pointed it out to the rest of them.
"Not another tidal wave!" Joe whimpered looking terrified. Then suddenly, the phone booth closest to Mimi exploded and a huge gush of water burst from the ground where it had been standing. The booth flew high into the air and crashed down close to where Mimi and Matt were standing. Matt jumped out of the way and Mimi shrieked and ran back to cower behind Joe.
"What the hell is going on?" Tai shouted as right in front of him another phone booth hurtled into the sky. Next to him, his little Digimon Agumon growled,
"We need to leave – now!"
"Why, do you know what's happening?" Tai asked. The Digimon said one word,
"Shellmon,"
Before Tai could ask any of the hundreds of questions racing around his head, the grey shell that he'd been looking at earlier rose out of the water followed by an enormous pink turtle type creature, the grey shell part of its body.
There was a high pitched scream from Mimi and Joe made a weird noise and the two of them edged away from the shore.
"Let's get out of here!" Matt said urgently
"What is that Tentomon?" Tai heard Izzy ask his bug-like Digimon
"It's Shellmon, he's not a very nice guy when he's angry – and he looks pretty angry to me!"
The great monster made a roaring sound and fired a rocket of jet stream water at the group. It took Tai by surprise and couldn't get out of the way in time, receiving a blow so strong that it knocked him off his feet and onto the sand below. He wasn't the only one struck, Joe, who had started to scale the cliff face behind them got a face full of water and crashed down to the floor, landing with a thud. Matt and Sora had managed to avoid the water whilst TK, Izzy and Mimi had taken cover behind some rocks.
Tai gasped for air and got to his knees, his Digimon ran to him and stood in front of him to protect him. One by one the other Digimon hurried forward and began to fire their various attacks at the sea monster. But this time it wasn't working. The attacks seemed to barely scratch Shellmon and he continued to blast cold streams of water at the Digimon who one by one were thrown backwards out of the way. The only one left standing was Agumon. Agumon was effectively dodging the blasts and continued to fire his peppery balls of fire at the creature. Realising that he was the only one left, Tai began to yell encouragement to the orange little dino and ignored Sora and Izzy's cries for him to get to safety. Inspired by this Agumon's attacks became more frequent and stronger but suddenly Shellmon changed his attention from Agumon and Tai to the other, weaker Digimon.
"Hey stop!" Tai yelled at the monster. Agumon pelted him with fire again but this time Shellmon ignored it. "Hey!" Tai yelled again but it was no use. Tai looked around for something to help and spotted a few sharp looking rocks. He picked two up and hurtled one of them at Shellmon, it missed. Tai swore and grabbed another rock before racing closer to the monster
"Hey over here dumbass!" he yelled at Shellmon
"Tai don't!" called Agumon
Tai threw the second rock as hard as he could and it struck Shellmon's pink, fleshy face. It gave a roar and turned on Tai who was buzzing with adrenaline and welcomed the attack.
"Yeah that's right! Come and get me!" he taunted then yelled at Agumon "Go on get him! I'll cause a distraction!" The Digimon looked hesitant but obeyed, firing at the monster again. Tai threw another rock which hit Shellmon and turned to move out of the way when out of nowhere a long, green, slimy tentacle coiled around his waist. Tai jumped, startled and tried to move away but the tentacle tightened its grip and squeezed Tai so hard that he struggled for breath.
"Ah! Help!" he cried as the tentacle lifted him off the ground. He was carried high into the air above Shellmon's head, the thick tentacle squeezing tighter and tighter every second. Tai began to panic, he couldn't breathe properly and down below his little Digimon was fighting a losing battle.
Shit! He thought this is how I'm going to die! Crushed to death by a giant tentacle, not quite the way he would have hoped. He began to see black dots in his vision and his head was light, there was hardly any oxygen left in his lungs, he was about to die, he knew it…then he saw the white light…
