AN: So surprise another chapter in two days time. Even surprised me. The ideas were there so I wrote them down rather quickly. Think I caught the mistakes but if not let me know.

Thanks again for the reads and of course for the reviews and follows. Hope you continue to enjoy.

As always I don't own The Mentalist or any of its characters. Didn't own them last chapter either.

Jane straightened his waist coat and opened another button on the top of his shirt. Then he put on his most heart stopping smile and opened the door.

"Kristina."

He spoke softly to the women seating there aimlessly staring into space.

"Kristina." He said again placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Patrick, back again to be mean?" Her voice was steady the trance broken.

"I'm sorry about before Kristina, but we weren't alone."

"We are now?" She answered looking straight at the mirrored wall.

"I sent them all away."

Jane pulled up a chair next to her and took her hand.

"Even Teresa?"

Giving her hand a squeeze he looked her in the eyes.

"Yes, even Teresa. They're all gone it's just us."

"Why would the FBI trust you alone with me Patrick? They don't seem like the trusting type."

He let out a small sigh and lowered his voice.

"I told them about us."

"You do remember Patrick!"

"Of course. How could I not?"

His smile was in place but it never reached his eyes. His companion didn't seem to notice that detail as her own smile brightened.

Jane was startled by Kristina who was out of her seat arms tight around him.

"I've missed you Patrick." She whispered in his ear. "Say you forgive me."

"Yes, I forgive you."

"Thank you, thank you." She kissed him on the cheek.

Jane suddenly felt very uncomfortable. He pulled back and put a restraining hand on her arm.

"Tell me about the boy. Any idea who would do this to you Kristina, to us?"

"I have an idea." Frye sat back down but didn't let go of his hand.

"First name you think of who is it?"

"My sister! She was always jealous of me. Hated the fact that I'd gotten the gift and not her. Resented my success and the way some people were good to me. Remembering me in their will and all."

Kristina took a deep breath, "She really hated when we got together. I think she wanted you for herself. When we learned about Tommy she stopped speaking to me."

"Do you think she would harm Tommy?"

"No I think she took him so I would look for you. And she was right."

Dissolving into to tears she placed her head on Jane's shoulder.

"You'll help Patrick. Tommy loved you so much and you used to love him. Do you still love him?"

"Yes, I still love him and we'll find him. I promise."

Before he could move Jane found her lips on his.

A collective intake of breath could be heard in the observation room. All eyes went to Lisbon. Before anyone could speak Lisbon was out of seat and looking at her colleagues.

"Well that went better than expected. Coffee anyone?"

Abbott spoke up "No I think we're all fine Teresa. Right guys"

Meet with heads bobbing in the affirmative she walked out the door.

"I'm thinking she not as fine as she wants us to believe" Wylie voiced what they were all thinking.

Jane walked back into the room looking exhausted and took in all the concerned faces.

"Where is Lisbon?'

"She just went for coffee." Cho answered.

"How is she doing?"

"You know Lisbon always professional."

"Not fine then?" Jane queried his stoic friend.

"Not even close."

"Damn I don't want to upset Lisbon but I need more time with Kristina. The woman is all the place from concerned mother to scorned lover it doesn't make sense. And her hands were all over me under the table. Who thinks of THAT when their child may be in danger?"

"Thinks of what?" Lisbon said walking back into the room.

She was meet with silence and adverted eyes.

"What's going on? Jane talk to me."

"Kristina wants to know a good place for steak here in Austin. Who thinks about restaurants when their child is missing. It's not natural."

Lisbon shrugged "It is if your hungry or maybe just reunited with a former lover and want somewhere romantic to catch up on old times."

"Teresa, Kristina Frye is not a former lover."

"I know that Jane but you just spent time convincing her other wise. Dose she not want to spend time with you?"

"Well yes, she'd like us to have dinner together tonight. You know to …."

"So is the help of the FBI still needed or is it just you she wants?" Lisbon cut him off mid thought.

Her question was meet with a heavy sigh.

"I honestly don't know. But I'm ninety nine percent sure there is a child involved and one hundred percent positive Kristina Frye is a victim not the antagonist. She is still under the direct influence of someone else. And that someone wants me involved in this game of cat and mouse."

"Red John?" Wylie asked.

"Thomas McAllister is dead." Jane answered abruptly not acknowledging the killer's pseudonym. "But it could be a misguided champion of his."

Jane looked over to Kristina starting to get antsy sitting alone in the small room.

"I need to get back there before she starts wandering around the office."

"OK." Abbott spoke up "Wylie 's looking into the information on her sister. We'll let you know if anything shows up."

"Thanks Dennis."

"So where are you taking her for dinner?" Lisbon asked trying to sound nonchalant.

"Somewhere loud and full of families. I'll be home as quick as possible. Wait up for me?"

Lisbon blushed at the conversation that put her personal life front and center.

"Of course" She answered quietly.

Jane surprised her even more by kissing her in front of her co-workers.

"I love you Teresa never doubt that OK."

And he was out the door and off to another disastrous date with Kristina Frye.

"Are you alright Teresa? We can pull the plug on this whole thing. Just say the word."

"Thanks Boss but I'm OK really. It's Jane I'm worried about. He closed that chapter of his life or so he thought and now it's back. I don't know if he can deal with it again." Tears sat at the corners of her eyes.

"He has you now, Teresa."

The moment was broken by Wylie's excite voice. "I think I found something."

Both Abbott and Lisbon looked over the young agents shoulder at the picture on the screen.

Kristina Frye holding a small child with curly light brow almost dirty blond hair.

"Can you isolate the child's face and enlarge just that image?" Lisbon asked.

"Sure" Wylie hit a few keys.

And there it was what Lisbon was looking for bright blue green eyes.

"Damn it Jane, what have you gotten yourself into now" She said under her breath.
