For the remainder of the weekend, Caroline relaxed. She went over her course schedule, signed into the online blackboard, and introduced herself to her new classmates, and slept peacefully. Bills, or food weren't on the forefront of her mind, and it'd been a long time since she was able to sleep so well. Whenever she had a free moment, she would think of the time she spent with Klaus. She enjoyed how handsome and dangerous he looked in his leather jacket, the way his mouth would quirk up at the corner, and how he seemed to listen to everything she had to say. Foolishly, she thought of the next time she'd see him, giggling at all the outlandish scenarios they would find themselves in. She drew the line at the meeting in the shower one, though.
Still, one could hope, right?
How would you meet in the shower, you stupid girl?
Duh. I would be cleaning the shower, he'd be behind me, then all of a sudden the water would turn on and-
That's crazy!
No, what's crazy is that i'm actually having a conversation with myself.
To say the date with Klaus consumed her thoughts for the remainder of the weekend was an understatement. Still, she knew she had to get herself together. That was why, on Monday morning, she took the long route to the Mikaelson home, unwilling to face either male just yet.
"Just breathe, Caroline."
Even though she told herself to calm down, she found her thoughts racing at being able to see Klaus again. He was such a force of nature, yet gentle with her. She could see the barely restrained power the man seemed to have over his body; instead of scaring her, it only made him more appealing. However, even as she mentally listed his attributes, she wondered why a human man would need to exhibit so much control. To the untrained eye, one would never be able to see the restraint. His body and eyes were relaxed. Too relaxed.
Not to Caroline.
No, she could see that while his body was in a forced relaxing stance, his eyes were always alert. There were seconds where Klaus' body would tighten, or coil, as if in frustration, and that was what made Caroline curious.
What could he be on edge for?
Granted, the Mikaelson family was very much a upper class family. Judging by their clothes, demeanor, and where they live, one could easily guess that money truly wasn't a problem for them. But, they should be relaxed, right? Unless they were apart of something illegal.
"Don't be stupid, Caroline."
Knowing that she couldn't put off going into the Mikaelson home any longer, she took a sharp right, stilling herself for coming face to face with the man who consumed her thoughts all weekend long.
…
Caroline was surprised to be alone when she arrived. Typically, Elijah was always present, with a kind word, or details on where he, or his brother would be if needed. It wasn't until she called their names several times, that she realized she was completely alone. Shrugging, she went around the house, opening the windows, and curtains. Walking into the kitchen, she saw a note propped up on the fruit basket.
Caroline,
My brother and I our out. Should you need us, please feel free to contact me at the numbers given should you need us.
-Elijah.
"Out and about," Caroline said to herself. She was a tad saddened to see that she wouldn't see Klaus, but knew it was for her own good. Going on for one evening to a fair didn't truly mean anything.
…..
For the past couple of days, Katherine was pouring over ancient documents. Elijah was never one to fabricate the truth, so she wanted to explore more about this Caroline Forbes. It only took several hours later to find out the truth herself.
And what a truth it was.
The Forbes line, was a powerful one. They were indeed the first seer family. Their jobs were simple; to prophecy of any future upcoming events. Events that could harm, or benefit the ruling monarch at the time. Their word, and rule were the most trusted in the ancient kingdoms. She immediately found another text, courtesy of a few witches she knew. They not only confirmed this, but were able to tell the story of the two Forbes men. The eldest, William Forbes was a formidable man. He was the sole heir to the Forbes kingdom, and next in line for the throne. His brother, born years later, was not. It wasn't until William met, and fell in love with a human woman, named Elizabeth. Not much is known about their courtship, only that they planned to run away. The text stops at the time of William's death. Elizabeth was able to escape, but only barely. William's brother, Xavier was only a young teenager at the time, and was unable to meet the Forbes woman. He however knew his brother was courting a woman secretly. Before too much investigation could be done, Xavier had to step into the role of the new king.
Katherine's eyes were wide while she read the story, unable to comprehend how this was possible. Stopping at the Forbes lineage, Katherine kindly asked if the witch knew what was to happen to the child, should he/she come to the light. The elder woman chuckled, and asked her to take a seat.
"Normally, I don't talk to vampires, the Mikaelson family being the only one."
"Why then take a chance, and speak with me?" Katherine asked.
Smiling, the witch took a sip of her tea before answering.
"You have kind eyes, dear. Plus, I can tell when another vampire is involved with a Mikaelson. Even when they don't want to be."
Katherine blushed at that, but let the woman continue.
"As for your question, because the seer family was a peaceful one, the child of the Forbes line was to unify all the divided. Everyone that could be lost to the supernatural world would come together by his or her hand."
"How would this child do that?"
"By marriage. To the worst kind of supernatural being."
"The Vampire," Katherine whispered, answering the woman, who nodded somberly. After several moments of silence, the woman spoke.
"In order to show the world of the immense power they hold, they would have to contend with the devil himself. And as anyone knows, you aren't considered strong unless you can conquer the greatest enemy known to the supernatural world." Standing, the woman walked to the corner of her room, before coming back with another large book.
"Here. This should answer any lingering questions you may have. I only ask that you use discretion with this book. Others may jump to the wrong conclusion should they see you possess it."
That same day, Katherine flew to her residence, changed all her codes, and locks, before opening the book, beginning to read.
She came to the end of the text, the words, causing the hairs to stand up on the back of her neck.
Thus, it shall be proclaimed. The first born child of the seer line, shall possess the powers inherited by the firstborn king. The child will be possess the talents of old, with the gift anew. Should the gift from the child fall into the wrong hands, the unimagined destruction will occur.
What destruction? Was it for all supernatural beings? And what did that mean for Caroline? Not wanting to, but figuring it was needed, she called Elijah. It was several moments before he picked up.
"Katherine, I'm currently-"
"This is important. We need to talk. Now." Elijah could hear the seriousness in her voice, and it caused him to hold up a finger, before walking away swiftly from the table. He was currently doing business with one of the residing vampire families in town, the Salvatore brothers.
"Katerina. Is something wrong?"
Pushing her hair out of her face, she exhaled.
"Not with me. It's about the Forbes girl you mentioned. Caroline? I found out some interesting things you may want to know."
Eyebrows raised in surprise, he cleared his throat before answering.
"I didn't think you'd be assisting me as much with this. I thought-"
"My personal feelings toward you have nothing to do with something this important. You know that."
"Why, yes I do, but-"
"But, what? You need my assistance with research. I can provide it."
Elijah felt like shouting his frustration. Katerina was putting up her walls, making herself almost impenetrable to seize. He knew it was his fault. At first, he blamed his brother. But, the more he thought on it, the more he realized what a load of crock that was. He was a man. A man that made his own decisions, took control of his own fate. But, he didn't when it came to Katerina. He wanted to tell her all of this, but he knew now wasn't the time. So, he would sit back and wait.
Patience is a virtue, he thought wryly.
"Elijah?" Katherine questioned, bringing him from his inner musings.
"You are correct, Katherine. I see no reason why we cannot work together. I will be over later today to discuss it."
…..
Over the weekend, Caroling noticed that the Mikaelson men had tracked dirt all across the kitchen floor. She rolled her eyes, before taking out the mop, and cleaning supplies for the floor.
"Men."
So caught up in her moping, she was unable to hear Klaus come up behind her. It wasn't until she was at the edge of the marbled floor, backing up into a hard body, did she spin around. Gasping, she lost her footing for a second, which caused Klaus to instantly reach out and catch her.
"I've got you," he whispered against her skin. Swallowing, she gripped his forearms, marveling at their strength. Moving her eyes over his hands, it wasn't until he stood, with her in his arms, and turned over his arm, did she notice the arrowhead tattoo.
"It's a family crest. Something passed down to all the men in my family line. Something that only- Something that is sacred."
Caroline heard him, but she was so focused on the unique looking tattoo. Klaus studied her as she studied the art on his arm.
"Caroline?"
As soon as she ran her hand over the tattoo, she gasped before her eyes were seeing something completely different. Something in another life.
Castles.
Swirling colors.
A large garden.
Klaus sitting on a throne.
Seconds later, it was replaced by screams of terror.
Blood on every surface.
Children crying in the streets.
Fire.
A blonde woman dying in Klaus' arms.
Snatching her hand back, as if she'd been burned, Caroline shook her head a couple of times as if to clear it.
Grabbing her hands, Klaus tried to get her to focus back on him. He saw her eyes changing colors, and he knew she was unaware of it. To him, it was fascinating. He'd never thought he'd be close to a line of the seer.
Cupping her cheek, he waited until she collected herself before speaking.
"What did you see?" He asked quietly. Caroline was about to tell him, when she realized the words that came out of his mouth.
What did I see? He couldn't possibly-
Stiffening, she laughed it off.
"See? Oh, nothing. I think I've just been working harder than usual. With school, and everything else."
"Caroline," Klaus started only to be stopped by the woman herself.
"Please remove your hand from me."
Once he dropped his hands, she took a deep breath before forcing a smile.
"Thanks for your concern. Please tell Elijah i'll be back early tomorrow to make up for leaving today."
