Without further ado, here is chapter 7!
Why? Why on Mother Nature's earth do I have to have acrophobia? I ride dragons for Mother Nature's sake! Ah well. I guess most people would scream if they fell into a crack in the ground. Not Natasha though. She is very quiet. Too quiet. Hmm. I think she's dead. Hold on... she's awake. I think she fell asleep. Nothing scares her. Sheesh. Wow, that grey thing is getting much clo...
Oof. How did I not see this coming? I feel stupid.
You are stupid.
"Thanks, Sash." I forgot about her. If you're falling through a crack in the ground, shouldn't you expect to hit something? Natasha's already on her feet. She's coming towards me. Crap. She does not look happy. She looks angry. Ah well. I might as well have a look at my possible deathplace.
Scrambling to my feet, I survey my surroundings. It's basically a big square crevice in the rock surrounded by four stone walls, which are quite far away, and no way out. The crack we fell down has somehow sealed itself after we fell through it. The only thing in the room is a small box of lava which seems to go down into a lake of more of the boiling liquid and a few loose stones. They probably fell off the uneven, jagged cliffs surrounding us, which are roughly far away. Hold on... they seemed further away last time... I gaze at them for few seconds longer and my eyes widen; the walls are getting closer. It reminds me of a scene from Star Wars: A New Hope or whatever it was called when the trash compactor is closing in on (...what was his name? Look? Luke? Yes, it was Luke) Luke and his friends. I laughed at that scene. I still do thinking back about it but I don't laugh now. Now, it's happening in real life.
Hold on... anyone gonna answer the question of how we survived such a massive fall... No? Am I the only one who noticed?
Natasha follows my gaze and spots the walls. "Seriously?" she mutters. I can completely understand her. There are spiders all over that wall. Oh wait... those are cracks not spiders. So it isn't the spiders that are creeping me out? It's something else? What could it be... Hmm... Gee. I have no idea at all! It's definitely not the fact that the walls are closing in on us rapidly.
After casting a wary glance at the Russian to make sure that she will not kill me if I try to stand up, I scramble to my feet and cock my head to the left as I inspect the walls. Yep, definitely evil. The walls want to kill us. Stupid walls. And yes, I am crazy. Crazy is good, though. Crazy is very good...
Yes, believe those words. Run, Black Widow, run while you still can!
The walls are coming closer. The are very close now. One of the walls comes into contact with one of the loose rock fragments. It rolls across the floor and hits the lava with a small splash. Wait a sec... splash? Rocks falling into lava don't make splashing sounds. They make sizzling sounds! Rocks falling in water make splashing sounds. So... I get an idea.
Oh no... Everyone run for your lives.
Thanks a lot, Sash! To test my hypothesis, I nudge a rock into the 'lava' and watch. It plops in with the same splash as the other did, sending water-like drops everywhere... It is water! It's just colored to look like lava. I have a plan...
This is getting worse by the second!
I'm not saying that this will work. In fact, I'm not saying that there is a large possibility of survival. That is why, as the walls begin to close further in on us, I shove Natasha in. Yeah, I know, I'm horrible. But... I think I just saved her life. In addition, if I had jumped in first, I doubt she would have followed. Oh well.
I did not think this through. The walls are crushing me. I can't breathe. I can barely even move. This reminds me of the Tomb Raider movies. Those were epic. I loved each and every one of them. I even bought the books based on the screenplay. Oh, how I...
Stop, Noctra! Stay focused! Exceedingly painfully, I drag myself across the gap in the walls towards the lava. A sickening feeling churns in my stomach. I'm not going to make it. I'm going to die here, surr... Hold on... is that a ha...
Before I know it, I'm being dragged down into the fake lava by a very, very, very, very, very angry-looking woman. Oh dear. To make things worse, my arm is still stuck there. The walls of the... I can't remember what it's called but whatever it is' walls are crushing my arm. My right arm. It just has to be my right arm. The arm that has been broken twice in the course of 1 - 1 and 1/2 years! Really?!
Natasha notices. I can almost see her momentarily weigh her options before begrudgingly swimming over to my arm and pulling it out. Very hard. Along with 5,486,592,596,104,659,396,285,438 other fragments of rocks. Ow. Ow. Actually, it isn't that b... OW! THAT FRICKIN' HURT! MY HAND! I shall personally kill Natasha. And Hawk-eye. And Bane because he's alive.
While you're at it can you blow up the world for me too?
Natasha beckons me with a hand and starts swimming towards a tunnel in the wall. I follow; in order to kill her for my hand, we would both have to be alive. Although, maybe it was payback for pushing her in... Who knows?
As we continue to swim through the tunnel, a light appears ahead. Finally! We both swim swiftly towards the opening and... oh... that's a waterfall...
We plummet down... again. Thankfully, this time it is only a few meters' drop. Thank Mother Nature.
I look up.
Actually, don't thank her. I'm not very amused to find a massive, three headed canine looming over me! Well... who would be impressed by that? Natasha's rolling her eyes. She's annoyed. Her death list is definitely getting longer as every minute passes.
So will mine if you don't stop ignoring me!
The dog lunges at as and we both dodge out of it's way: Natasha to the left, me to the right. The dog whips 'round and lets out of a howl of fury before leaping for Natasha, who is somehow already at the other side of the room. I try to run but I fall over. Crap. I forgot - no tail.
You managed it before.
Despite Natasha's evasive skills and speed, the dog soon catches up to her. It growls furiously and sinks it's claws into her back. The assassin lets out a cry of pain. I can see that she doesn't want to scream, her eyes clenched shut and her finger scrabbling against the dusty cave floor, but I can see that she can't hold it back. The pain on her face as the brown, red-eyed, three-headed monster looms over her is unmistakable.
You're so over-dramatic. Especially when you describe things.
I have to stop this. No-one deserves to die like this! Suddenly, a flash of light catches my eye. I look up and my mouth practically falls open. A projector. The Black Widow is being killed by a projection? No. Not the Black Widow, at least, not any more. Other similar projectors are scattered around the room and I instantly realize that I can't get all of them at once. However, they're probably all connected to a single power generator. I just have to find it.
My legs start tingling. You know, that sort of tingling you get when you're sitting on something electric? It's weird and I'm feeling it on the skin of my ankles. Shifting around, I spot a large blue box embedded in the ground next to me, small blue sparks coming off it occasionally. That is the power generator. What I do next, I don't remember fully, it all happens so fast and I don't even think. One moment, I'm looking at the box, the next I'm bringing something down on it and the next thing I knew, I'm being flung back across the cave into the wall on the other side, small shocks of blue electricity still coursing through my fingers as I tremble.
It works. The dog is gone, never to be seen again. I let out a sigh and look around for the smaller frame of Natasha. Spotting her, I push myself up and limp towards her, using the wall for support. Hold on... I can't see her breathing. That's not possible! It was just a projection; it couldn't have done her any harm, could it? I hurry over to her, stumbling and tripping over stones, the wound on my leg screaming at me. I reach her and stop, horror flooding over my body. Three deep gashes cover most of her side. She isn't breathing.
I can't do anything, can't help her in any way. She's gone. She's dead. Yeah, I've been in hundreds of fights but... well... I've never actually killed someone. I only ever disarm them. I've seen very little death. This... this is just wrong. No-one should die like this.
Well done, Nocty, you've killed off another one.
"Oh crap..." It's merely a whisper but I hear it easily. I look at the once-dead assassin and I think my eyes have just popped out of my skull. She's alive. And... the wound is closing up. As if it's... an illusion. The dog was an illusion! This entire cave is an illusion! We have to get out of here!
Wait, she's alive? Dammit!
"Can you walk?" I ask.
Natasha gives me a strange look. I guess enemies don't normally ask the other people if they're ok. In addition, the wound... it's gone! Almost completely healed up! "Yeah..." she murmurs and gets up. "What happened?"
"Big, illusion, projection dog..." I tell her. Wow, this is confusing!
Then, the woman starts laughing. She just sits there and laughs. "This will be a great story to tell Pepper!"
I cock my head to the side. Who's Pepper?
Natasha smiles and introduces herself, "My names Natasha Romanoff."
"I know," I smile. Spotting her confused gaze I explained, "Remember when we were fighting before? With all the dragons?"
Natasha nodded. "You seemed ready for us..."
"I crept up on you when you were planning," I tell her. She still looks confused. "I can read minds. I collected the basic information about each one of you and then heard the plan when Barton asked to hear it again."
"Oh..." Natasha looks slightly creeped out.
Don't worry, Natasha, you'll probably die properly soon now that you know her.
I smile. "I'm Noctra, by the way. It's nice to meet you. So... what n..."
A thunderous boom above us cuts me off and I stare upwards in horror. A channel must have opened up while we were talking, serving as an escape. It's closing. What's worse is that it's unsettling the rocks. What's even worse is that a tunnel is opening up, filled with lava and this time, the lava's real.
That's what you get! If you ignore me, you die!
"Run!" I scream but Natasha's already sprinting off. I can't blame her for running. I would probably abandon Bane at a time like this. I try to run after her but I can't balance. The spy notices and I think she is remembering that I had a tail. Without a word, she darts over and pulls me up, placing my arm around her neck. I give her a grateful look and we hurry forwards to the wall. We must have gone up - it isn't that far to the top.
"I'll go up and pull you up from there," she decides. However, I'm not focused on that. There's a crystal on a stone pillar only a small part to my right. It's red with a black shape of a long-legged creature in the middle: a spider. But not just any spider: a black widow spider. What Natasha is named after. As Natasha finishes her climb, I sprint over to the crystal, somehow able to hold onto balance for a short run. "What are you doing?" the Russian hisses.
"Catch!" I yell and toss the crystal up to her. I've been practicing years for that...
Yeah, my head suffered from it!
Not knowing anything else to do, she catches it. She begins to glow. No, really! She's glowing! Suddenly, she springs back into motion and swiftly climbs part way back down the wall, grabs me and drags me up onto the cliff top.
Somehow, that crystal just returned her power.
Thank you, Sherlock... That was meant to be sarcastic.
We look at each other for a brief second before I start laughing, dipping my head down as my smile widens. Natasha grins and gets up. "Come on. Let's get out of here." She extends a hand and I take it, just about able to stop my laughter. We're safe. We made it out alive and... I made a new friend.
Hey guys! I hope you liked it. Longer chapter than usual, I know. But I really was looking forwards to that chapter.
Thank you, I hope you enjoyed, please review and maybe leave a suggestion. Thank you!
