Chapter 7

A Meal, Then Bed

The ocean waters were crystal clear. Everywhere they looked, there were fish, sharks and whales. Perfect meals for two mutated dinosaurs. Godzilla watched the movements of the meals before his eyes. Godzilla began to follow the schools of fish and he opened his massive jaws and began to feed on anything in his path, taking in the fish that were not lucky enough to get away.

Mothra followed his example, as they swam on, she finally spotted a large amount of what looked to be a school of tuna fish. They were probably between 200 to 500 pounds. Mothra's instincts took over and she allowed herself to follow behind to the school. Quickening her pace, she opened up her jaws and allowed the salt water to mix with the unfortunate tuna that could not escape from the predator that she had become.

Godzilla watched as Mothra continued to follow along the schools of different fish. He enjoyed how she had taken up hunting with him. It made something inside of him boil up, like water that was just beginning to boil.

"What is it that keeps me feeling this way?" He wondered to himself.

Being under the water for so long made his lungs begin to ache for air. So Godzilla stopped pondering and rose to the surface for air. He took in deep breaths, letting the rich oxygen fill his lungs. Then his thoughts came back to him. What was the feeling that he was experiencing.

A few seconds later Mothra also rose to surface. With a shine in her eyes. She was full of excitement and pride from her accomplishments.

"Wow! Does this happen every time you hunt?" Mothra asked.

Godzilla fought off a toothy grin.

"Yes, it's always been this way. Though I used to always absorb nuclear energy of power plant facilited for my prime source of meals..."

As quick as lightning, his smile vanished and was replaced with his teeth being clenched.

"...Before the humans sought out to take away my energy sources. Hunting for a meal also takes time, and with the humans taking away the fish of the sea, it has become harder to find bigger fish that can sustain my hunger." Godzilla said.

"Is that why he hates humans so much. But perhaps over time he will explain it to me." Mothra thought.

At that Mothra realized what she was just thinking about, her and Godzilla together over time. Perhaps a long time, maybe even forever. It caused her to blush, making the scales of her cheeks burn pink. She could not say that to him, not right now.

After a few more brief minutes of silence. Godzilla began to hear the echoes of his favorite prey. With their serene songs leading the way to their very location, Godzilla turned to Mothra.

"Are you still hungry?" He asked her.

"Yes the fish were great, but they did not really fill up my stomach." Mothra answered.

Godzilla nodded, his own belly still needed a good filling.

"There are Humpback Whales not far from here, they are great meals for creatures our size. Two or three of them will fill our stomachs and sustain our hunger for a few more days." He said, as he turned to dive back under the ocean. Mothra followed.

Not too far from where they were, Godzilla was the first to spot the underwater mammals. There were two adult males and two females. Both the females had calves that were feeding off of their mothers.

With enough sense to know that if that if the two males were taken, two more could possibly take their places. Godzilla motioned to Mothra with his head. He tried his best to point out to kill the two males and leave the females and their young. Mothra shook her white head understanding. With that Godzilla dove deep under the water and only seconds later, he rose with his jaw open and grabbed one of the male Humpbacks. The water became encased in bubbles and red, iron rich blood.

Mothra followed suit, she dove deep under the sea into the darkness of the abyss and, like Godzilla. She quickened her pace and came up under the whale and yanked the other male Humpback's life away. The meat was beyond tasty; the way the blubber and raw muscle mixed and gave it a tangy flavor. The blood that remained became a very delightful treat as well. Mothra swam to the surface, following Godzilla.

He was already beginning to clean off his face of any stray blood or meat. Mothra watched closely, intrigued on how to properly clean ones face. He took his tongue and licked the sides of his jaws first, rubbing gently over the scales of his cheeks. Then he wiped his lower snout finally his lower scaled lip just above his chin. Following his example Mothra did the same, cleaning her sides, and snout and lower lip of any remains.

After his cleansing, Godzilla's eyes began to droop. It truly had been a long day for him. With constant surprises that had been so suddenly revealed, it was quite tiring trying to stay calm. Mothra had changed, and just in one day, maybe he had begun to change as well.

With his stomach now full, Godzilla turned to see where the sun lied. It was already becoming a mix of yellows and reds as the sun made its descent just over the horizon. He then looked at the water, it showed the same signs as the sun, with its yellowish, red hue the sun and sea showed that evening was at hand and the night would soon approach.

Godzilla lifted his dinosauric snout to sniff the air, his island and home was covered in his sent from where he had marked his territory, but it must had been too far away, the only aroma that he could smell was Mothra and her island. Her scent was indeed one of the most wonderful that he had ever smelled before. It was like the fresh air after a good rain shower mixed in with a musk that defined her as the Guardian moth that she once was. Mixing both together was not the best for his aggressive nature, but perhaps over time he would grow to get used to.

"Wait, why over time would I become accustomed to this scent?" He question himself.

"We have known each other as enemies for the longest time, but now...things are different, she is different, I...am different. The way she makes me feel now is still so new and different from anything that I have ever felt."

The last part formed a new question in his mind, "What exactly is this feeling that I get whenever I am around her. It makes my stomach turn over and my heart beats faster when she gets closer to me." He thought.

With a silent yawn, Godzilla turned back to Mothra and was struck with awe. Mothra's scales glowed bright orange from the sun's rays. She looked...beautiful with the sun's rays striking her bright, white scales covering her in an entrancing glow.

Trying to take his mind off of her, Godzilla swam up just slightly closer to her.

Mothra was surprised that was getting closer, but the closer he came the more she wanted him to come closer and closer. Like a trance, both of them drew silent, the only sound was the constant breathing between the two. Mothra was the first to turn with Godzilla following close behind. Mothra swam for miles with Godzilla chasing her.

Soon they drew back to her island. With each giant step that they took on the sand, the more their trance seemed to fade. Godzilla moved to be right beside Mothra's form as they walked through the trees and finally to her home. Mothra was the first to enter, with Godzilla following behind, he was still in so much of a trance that he did not even notice the two twin rainbow colored eggs that lied at the back of the cave.

Getting to the middle, Mothra was first to lie down on the left side of the cave, twirling around in a small circle twice until she lowered, minding her spines to not hit the roof of the cave, bringing her torso down to ground, pulling in her legs close to her frame. She rested her head on her arms and curled her tail around on her right flank until it reached her arms.

Godzilla followed behind on the right side, he did the same, turning twice and then lowering his body, bringing his legs in, resting his head on his arms and wrapping his tail around himself. Both began to let out yawns with sleep calling for them. Godzilla wanted to stretch in his new position and pulled his tail back, but brought it around and accidentally brushed across Mothra's tail startling him. This thrust him out of his trance and he immediately tried to stand but could not risk waking Mothra. She was...so close. His heart began to beat fast again, Godzilla was within a few feet of Mothra. With her white belly expanding slowly, he determined that she was sleeping.

"But how did I end up here." Godzilla thought. Before he could really think about anything, a yawn escaped his maw.

"Perhaps, just for now I will sleep. Tomorrow I will try to assess why I ended up in Mothra's home."

Godzilla lied back down, trying to get as comfortable as his reluctant body would allow. As he shut his eyes, he unconsciously moved his tail over next to Mothra's. His tail rubbed right against her tail causing her to stir from her sleep.

Mothra groggily opened her eyes, with a shadowy hazed feeling Mothra looked up to see where she was, she was relieved to know that she was back in her cave. But something was off, she could smell that Godzilla was near, very near. With the sound of heavy breathing and slight snoring Mothra looked to her left to see that Godzilla was sound asleep right next to her. He seemed to peaceful sleeping there, it gave Mothra a sigh of relief. Then she felt something rubbing against her tail. She her head to see to that Godzilla's tail was right next to her. She could not help but hold back a smile. Godzilla really was changing right before her eyes. He now seemed calmer than he had ever been. It gave her hope, that maybe one day soon, they could truly open up to each other and maybe perhaps...be more...than what they are now.

Mothra laid her head back down and began to try and return to the heavenly sleep that she was having. Her tail unconsciously began to coil around Godzilla's, his reacted to hers and soon their tails where slightly twisted together.

But, as the two beings were just starting to open up to each other, something from far beyond...was watching them. Something truly more evil and powerful than anything that either of them had ever faced.
