Chapter 6

AN: Wow it's been a year since I've updated and I am SO sorry. I found my old outline for this story when I was cleaning out my room a few days ago and got excited about it all over again. I made a few changes to the previous chapters but nothing substantial that if you've already read you need to go back. If anyone is still following this don't give up on me I am willing and ready to write you just have to be patient with me! Again I am so sorry it's been so long.

Isabella felt very uncomfortable. Self-consciously she pulled at the sleeve of her sweatshirt, trying to ignore the sweat running down her back. Sitting stiffly in the sticky lounge chair, she fidgeted and anxiously crossed her ankles. She was hot. The sun beat down on her showing no mercy, as she gazed longingly at the pool before her. Her younger sister, Angela, happily splashed in the cool water giggling with her friends. The water was tempting her with its crystalline view and the pungent aroma of chlorine swirling in the air. But she wouldn't go, not with her classmates frolicking about in scraps of clothing that left little to the imagination. Underneath her baggy clothes she wore her own black bikini not too different than the other girls but yet she couldn't bring herself to relinquish her shield of clothing.

It was all Alice's fault really; she was the one who convinced her to buy the swimsuit, just thinking about it mad her blush furiously. Even though Alice knew she was terrified of the water it hadn't stopped her. She had even used the cliché of saying, "Life is too short Bella, don't let fear stop you from doing what you want." That was Alice for you, not afraid to do anything and everything. Alice was her best friend and had been her entire life but this summer was different. Since Alice was a year older than Bella she had graduated last year. With plans to double major in fashion design and business she had no choice but to leave behind the tiny town of Forks, Washington and that meant Bella as well. Summer had always been sacred to them filled with bonfires at First Beach, nights of watching all the Molly Ringwald movies known to man and lying out for hours in the hot summer sun.

This summer was filled with babysitting her ten year old sister and wallowing in self-pity in her bedroom. Coincidentally, Alice was not only her best friend but also the sister of Edward Cullen. Edward was constantly in Bella's thoughts. Whether it was his piercing green eyed gaze, his throaty laugh or the slight crook in his smile, Bella would feel her pulse quicken and cheeks flush. He had always been kind to her, helping her and laughing with her when she was a child. To her he was perfect, and it seemed to her every other girl felt the same way. They had grown up together and overtime Bella's infatuation only grew until it felt she would burst. He didn't feel the same way, of that she was certain and every time he would bring a new blonde home from college, a piece of her heart would chip and fall away. She never told Alice, but Bella could tell she knew. Alice always knew everything.

One of the only reasons Bella had agreed to bring her sister today was because Edward happened to lifeguard at the public pool during the summer when he was home from school. It was pure torture to sit stiffly and watch him up on his chair. Today he had removed his standard lifeguard shirt because of the extreme heat and Bella watched him, hiding her gaze behind her dark sunglasses. He hadn't even notice her walk in but she hadn't expected him too, he was too busy flirting with a busty redhead. But she had noticed him, like always. Droplets of water clung to his disheveled hair and traveled down, down, down onto his glistening chest and disappearing beneath his swim trunks. She shook her head to stop her thoughts from traveling any farther south and rolled her eyes at herself, she was jealous of a water droplet, how pathetic. She forced herself to look away and she closed her eyes letting her imagination run wild and for once, at least in her mind, Edward did notice her.
