Toy Story 4
Chapter 7
Hey, guys. I just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to review my work. It really means a lot. I'm trying my best to remember what I originally wrote for this story; my memo builder with all of my ideas I had scrolled down was lost when I switched phones. But if you read my latest update on another one of my stories, you already knew that, sooo...moving on! I have removed the "I take requests" section from my bio because the last person who asked me to write a request wound up leaving because I took too long, apparently...therefore, to avoid any more disappointed people, I'll just take suggestions for current stories, if you want to shout them out in the comments. I bring this up because I had an EXCELLENT suggestion for this story, and I'm gonna try to incorporate it any way I can. Big props to Elizabeth Smith, I'll do what I can! For now, on with the show!
Woody stood on Buzz's shoulders, pressing against the roof of the crate, but the tool box holding it down wouldn't budge.
"It's no use", said Woody, straining. "We're not getting out this way."
He jumped down and clutched the bars of their makeshift prison.
"You're not getting out any way."
Lotso came up to the crate, leaning on his cane.
"Not-so-pretty Boy wanted us to make sure of that", said Prospector Pete.
He stood against his pickaxe and crossed one foot over the other.
"Once that idiot garbage man gets home from work, you toys are in for it."
"We're gonna make sure you give him everything he needs", said Lotso, "and then-THEN we get to destroy you."
"You don't know who you're dealing with", said Woody. "Sid will destroy you without a second thought."
"Once he has what he wants, he'll get rid of all of us", said Buzz, "and I speak from experience when I say it will not be pleasant."
Prospector Pete scoffed.
"What's he gonna do, strap a rocket to our backs and shoot us into the sky? HA! That's rich."
Woody and Buzz exchanged glances.
"Come on guys, you have to let us go!" said Woody.
"Sid is a despicable human being with no regard for anyone's feelings but his own!" said Buzz.
"Exactly", said Lotso, "which makes him the perfect partner."
Woody and Buzz could clearly see their decision was final. They sadly turned their backs to the two and slid down the wall.
"Well, when the time comes and you're finding yourselves with a snake in your boots-", said Woody.
"Don't say we didn't warn you", said Buzz.
Smirking, Prospector Pete slinked off. Lotso stayed behind, thinking about their words. Woody sensed someone was still there and turned around, placing a hand to the crate.
"Lotso", he pleaded.
The two locked eyes, and then Lotso angrily shook his head and limped away. Woody sighed and turned back around.
"Chin up, Sheriff", said Buzz. "No matter what happens, you've got a friend in me."
Woody half-smiled.
"Thanks, Buzz."
…
The garbage truck pulled back into Piedmont Waste Solutions and Sid parked it. He jumped out, hand-drumming the sides as he went around to the back of the truck to unload.
"Guys, we're here!" said Jessie. "Commence Phase 2."
The toys followed her to the middle of the truck where all of the trash from that day was gathered. Potato Head wiped his brow as he looked in the direction of the incinerator. He shuddered and kept going. Jessie stopped as she saw a broken curtain rod sticking out of the top of the pile.
"Remember, get up as high as you can", said Jessie. "We're only gonna have one shot at this."
The toys nodded. Potato Head disconnected his arms.
"Watch the teeth, Slink", he said as Slinky took them in his mouth.
"Alright, guys, together!" said Jessie.
She, Hamm and Rex picked up the front part of Slinky's body.
"One...two...three!"
They tossed him towards the top of the pile and Potato Head's hands caught the curtain rod.
"I'll be honest", he said, "I did not expect that to work."
"Let's go!" said Jessie. "We're short on time!"
Using Slinky's coils, the toys began to climb the pile to where Potato Head's hands were. Potato Head disconnected the rest of his body and slithered up the pile while Jessie carried his body under her arm. Once everyone was up, the toys brushed themselves off while Potato Head pulled himself back together. With a hard yank, the bottom half of Slinky joined them at the top.
"Perfect", said Jessie. "Now for the tricky part."
Sid hummed to himself as he pulled the lever to dump the load into the incinerator belt. Rex cried out in shock as the pile began to move. As the hatch above them opened, the toys were met with the evening sky.
"Now!" said Jessie. "Go, go, go!"
The toys tried to outrun the pile, climbing even higher as it tipped against them. Dead ahead of them was the belt they had been trapped on before.
"Everyone, to the right!" said Jessie. "Quick!"
The toys ran as fast as they could for the opposite end of the truck towards the front as the truck's contents continued to tip further down.
"Almost there!" Jessie yelled. "Keep going!"
Finally, the truck had reached its full tilt and the toys found themselves at the edge of the truck.
"Okay, go!" said Jessie, ushering them out. "Hurry, before the next sequence starts!"
Sid did a little dance in the dirt as he pulled another lever. The base of the truck started flipping over completely. The toys yelled as they hit the ground just beside the conveyor belt.
"We're alive!" said Rex. "We're not going to be melted!"
"We did it!" said Slinky.
"Not quite", said Jessie. "We still have to find a way into Sid's car so we can find Woody and Buzz and get them out of there."
"Hey, Sid!"
The toys ducked behind the front wheel of the truck as a man in an orange vest and a long red beard came over.
"Boss wants to see you."
But Sid didn't hear him; his headphones were still over his ears. The man sighed and opened the front door of his truck, slamming his hand on the horn. Sid cried out and jumped back in alarm, startled by the sudden noise. Seeing the man, he sighed and rested his headphones on his shoulders.
"What is it now, Pearson?" he said annoyedly.
"Boss wants to see you", said the man called Pearson, motioning to the office.
"Yeah, well, I'll be right there", said Sid, stalking off to the front of his truck. "I'm not wearing this stinking vest any more than I have to in this heat."
"Fine, stop by your car", said Pearson.
At this, the toys perked up.
"But if you're not in Mr. Masonbury's office in like 2 minutes, I'm pretty sure he's gonna fire you this time."
Shaking his head, Pearson walked off. Sid scoffed.
"That's what you always say, old man", he muttered, grabbing his keys, "but look who's still here."
Sighing, he pulled his vest off and walked towards his car.
"Now's our chance", said Jessie. "Let's go!"
Stealthily, the toys began to follow Sid to his car.
"No way he found out I've been rigging the vending machine in the break room", Sid was saying to himself. "I hid the wrappers in my own truck and dumped 'em this morning."
Sid stepped up to a beat-up black punch buggy with a skull painted on the hood. He tossed his vest inside along with some more stolen snacks he had hidden in his jacket.
"PHILLIPS!" a loud voice suddenly yelled. "MY OFFICE, NOW!"
"Coming, sir!"
Sid rolled his eyes and stuck his hands in his pockets as he trudged back towards the office, forgetting to shut his trunk in his haste.
"There it is!" said Jessie, pointing to the car.
"That figures", muttered Potato Head.
"I have to admit, the kid has a pretty impressive paint job there", said Hamm, admiring the skull.
"Are we really going in there?" Rex said fearfully.
"We have to, Rex", said Slinky, "for Woody and Buzz."
Rex tapped his claws together nervously, and then nodded.
"For Woody and Buzz", he agreed.
"You can't fire me! I QUIT!"
Jessie gasped as she saw Sid come storming back out to his car.
"Quick!" she whispered. "There's no time to lose! Everyone inside!"
The toys helped each other climb into the trunk and hid in the back as Sid shoved his hand inside to retrieve his vest. Pearson came up to him.
"Sorry, Sid", he said, "but I'm gonna need your vest and those snacks you stole."
With a malicious grin, Sid unceremoniously dropped the vest in the dirt along with the bags of snacks.
"Go ahead", he said, motioning to the ground.
Pearson made to pick everything up, when suddenly Sid's foot came crashing down on top of them. The bags popped open and chips spilled into the dirt. For good measure, Sid rubbed his foot in the dirt, digging the vest into the ground, and spat on the dirty pile of junk. Pearson stood in absolute shock as Sid slammed his trunk shut and opened the door of his car.
"Too SLOW, Gramps!" he teased, and slammed the door. Angrily, he started the engine.
Pearson jumped out of the way as Sid backed out of his spot without looking, running over the destroyed snacks and vest. Before the poor man could get up, he was met with a cloud of dust as Sid sped off.
"Not like it matters, anyway", said Sid, clutching the wheel so hard his knuckles were white. "Soon enough, I'll be rich."
Pearson watched him go as Masonbury came out to meet him. Upon seeing the mess, his face turned bright red.
"If that punk ever shows his face around here again", he said, "I'm gonna have him arrested for destruction of property."
The toys struggled to maintain their balance in the trunk as Sid headed home.
"Hang on, Woody and Buzz", Jessie thought as they all swayed back and forth, "we're coming for you."
That's all for now, guys! See you again soon!
