Cat turned off the television that was in the kitchen. She was sick of watching news of Beck and Jade on the television and she was sure Jade was too. She just shoved a plate of sandwiches in Jade's direction, "Are you hungry?"

"I don't have much of an appetite right now."

"Are you sure? They're grilled cheese."

"I'm fine, Cat." Jade assured. "But thank you."

"How do you feel?" Tori questioned, nervously twisting her hair. She felt an anxious feeling in the pit of her stomach. "I mean, everyone knows that you and Beck are divorcing."

Jade shrugged, "It's public record. People were bound to find out."

Tori couldn't believe how...calm Jade was acting. It was so unnatural and out of character. But it was the norm for Jade now. Distant and curt. Tori didn't like it. Sometimes, she even longed for her friend to have the same fiery personality that she used to hate.

"But you hate it when people are in your personal life."

"Yeah, but what can I do? You can't get a divorce without people finding out."

Cat and Tori shared a glance before Cat spoke, "How did Beck take the news?"

"Beck doesn't want to get a divorce." Jade said, grabbing an apple from the basket Cat had sitting on the island. She picked up a knife and sliced through it.

"Really?" Jade nodded.

"So, are we happy right now or are we sad?" Cat asked, looking straight into Jade's eyes as if they held the answer.

"We're pissed."

Cat carefully followed Jade around the kitchen with her eyes. Jade was carrying a knife. That was making Cat extremely nervous.

"Oh?"

"Yes. He ruins our marriage, and then decides he wants to keep me trapped in it."

Tori shook her head, "Maybe he doesn't see it that way. Maybe he just wants his wife back."

"He doesn't just get to decide my fate. He doesn't get to decide if I take him back or not."

"Won't you at least hear him out?" Tori suggested, rubbing her head.

"I've heard enough from him to last a lifetime."

"But-"

"When did you become such a Beck advocate?" Jade questioned, turning around to face her friend. Cat quickly swooped the knife out of Jade's hand and tossed it into the sink.

"I'm not! I'm just-"

"Can I ask you something, Tori?" Jade asked, cutting Tori off.

"Of course."

"How would you feel if one day out of the blue, you found out André was cheating on you? And he came home, and instead of apologizing to you, he tried to make it seem like it was your fault. Everything was your fault. How would you feel knowing you wasted half of your life on a guy? You spend ten years dating someone and then waste another four being married."

Tori took a deep breath, "I don't know how I would feel."

"I do." Jade said. She got off of the bar stool she was sitting on and left the kitchen, entering the living room. "You'd be betrayed. And hurt, and angry, and disgusted, and heartbroken, and there are so many other adjectives, I can't explain them all to you. Beck basically spit on our vows and all of a sudden, he decides he's done fucking his whore, so I'm supposed to go back to him? I don't think so. I'm not the forgiving type."

Cat frowned and followed Jade into the living room. She wrapped her arms around Jade's shoulders. "Oh, Jadey. We don't have to talk about this anymore."

"No, it's okay."

"It's not okay." Cat argued, wiping Jade's face. "You're crying."

"I've been doing it a lot lately. I'm fine."

"You're not fine. No more divorce talk. I promise."

Tori got off the bar stool and joined her two friends in the living room. She wanted to subtly slip in something regarding Beck, but she didn't want to upset Jade. And on top of that, she wasn't feeling too well. She just took a deep breath and sat down on the couch.

Jade wiped her eyes with the palm of her hand, "I'm sorry. I came here to have a nice time with you guys, not turn into the biggest wreck in Los Angeles."

"Why don't we watch a movie?" Cat suggested. "Maybe a comedy will help-"

"Let's watch The Scissoring." Jade said.

"Jadey, I don't have that movie. But I have lots of romantic comedies!"

Jade crossed her arms over her chest, "Fine. But at least let my choose it."

"Deal. You know where I keep all my movies right?"

Jade nodded, "Yes. In the wardrobe, in your bedroom. I'll be right back."

Once Jade was gone, Cat turned to Tori, "Are you feeling alright? You don't look too hot."

"I don't know."

"Are you catching something?" Cat asked, putting her hand on Tori's forehead.

"Cat, I'm fine." Tori waved Cat's worry away with a dismissive hand wave. "Just got a little bit of a headache."

"Are you sure? I have cold medicine and Advil and-"

"No medicine!" Tori said.

Cat's eyes widened at the authoritative tone Tori had, "Okay. No medicine."

"Sorry, that was rude."

"What about tea for your headache? Can I make you some tea?"

"I can make it myself." Tori stood up and walked back into the kitchen. She pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to keep her rising headache at bay.

"Are you sure?"

"Positive. A little headache isn't going to get me down."

Cat looked at Tori as she moved around her kitchen. She was looking a bit too pale for Cat's liking and it looked like she was swaying.

"Tori, just come sit down." Cat ordered. "Come and put your feet up. I'll get the tea for you."

Tori sighed in defeat. She threw her hands up in surrender. "Okay." She took a few small steps and then stopped. Her vision got blurry, and nothing was focusing. Before she knew it, she was on the ground.

"Tori!"

"Why didn't you tell us you weren't feeling well this morning?" Jade asked, pacing around Tori's hospital room.

"I was feeling fine this morning. And I wanted to hang out with my friends."

"We can always hang out." Cat said. "You should have stayed home."

"Guys, I am fine." Tori assured. "It's nothing major."

"Last time I checked, Vega, migraines were pretty serious."

"I agree." André said, speaking up for the first time in the conversation. Cat and Jade had been taking turns scolding Tori, while André stayed silent.

Tori looked up and glared at her husband. She didn't need him adding on.

Before Tori could even open her mouth, there was a knock at the door. Beck and Robbie entered the hospital room.

"Okay, Cat called us practically in hysterics." Robbie said. "What's going on?"

"I wasn't in hysterics!" Cat argued.

"Yes you were." Everyone else in the room replied.

"You guys are so mean."

"Tori collapsed while we were all at your house." Jade said, answering Robbie's question.

"Was it a low blood sugar thing?" Beck questioned, turning his attention to Tori.

Tori shook her head, "No, I don't think so. I just had a migraine-"

"Migraines can make you dizzy." Jade said, grabbing the plastic cup Tori was given and . "I would know, I've had a ton of them. They run in my family."

Beck thought back to all the times he and Jade sat in the dark when they were younger, either in her room or in his trailer. He would rub her temples, or her neck as she had a cold towel over her eyes.

"Why don't you get a nurse to dim these awful lights for you." Beck suggested. "They're even giving me a headache."

"They aren't bugging me." Tori said, grabbing André's hand. She sighed. "But we have to tell you something."

"You aren't dying are you?" Cat asked, worry filling her eyes.

"No, I'm not dying, Cat."

"Are you sure?"

"I'm sure. Um," Tori scratched her head, obviously nervous, "that's actually completely off base."

"André's dying." Cat guessed.

"Not at all. I'm pregnant. We're having a baby."

Cat's face broke out into a grin, "Oh my goodness! Congratulations!"

"Thank you."

"How far along are you?"

"Seven weeks."

Cat squealed, "This is so exciting!"

She was trembling. Jade hands were trembling so much, she dropped the cup she was holding and all of the water spilled on to the floor. The loud crash caught the attention of the other adults in the room. They turned to Jade, whose entire body was shaking now.

"Jade..."

"I'm gonna go get someone to clean that up." Jade said. Within seconds, she was out of the room.

The room got dead silent. For a few seconds, they all forgot Beck and Jade were in the room. Beck and Jade who just lost a baby.

Guilt settled in the pit of Tori's stomach. She felt horrible. "Beck, I...I am so sorry."

Beck didn't say anything. He just stood there and looked as if he had seen a ghost.

Beck tried to push down the bile he felt rising in his throat. He sat down and took a deep breath.

After a few minutes of everyone looking around awkwardly, André spoke up, "I should go find Jade."

Tori nodded, "Yeah."

André left the room. Tori turned to Beck and squeezed his hand. "Hey."

"How long have you known?"

"I found out the day you got the divorce papers. Right before. I met Krista, I met up with André at the doctor's office, and then I came to your house."

Beck nodded, "Congratulations."

"Thank you."

"I really mean that, you know. I just...I don't-"

Tori squeezed Beck's hand and nodded, "I know. You don't have to explain yourself to me."

In a different part of the hospital, André had finally got up with Jade who was aimlessly wandering around the optometry department.

"Hey."

Jade looked up from the glossy display case containing pairs of Gucci, Tiffany & Co., and Chanel glasses. "Hi."

"I'm sorry about that."

"Don't apologize, okay." Jade wrapped her arms around André. "I shouldn't have stormed out like that. It was not appropriate. I just needed some air."

"I don't blame you."

"I just panicked in there. I started thinking about when I was pregnant, and how happy I was, and now, I-"

André put his hand on Jade's back, and pulled her in for a tighter hug. "It's okay."

"You're amazing. You're the most amazing guy I know. And you are going to be the best dad in the world. I can't think of anyone who deserves it more than you."

"I can."

Jade tensed up a bit. She knew he was talking about Beck. "I should go get some water or something. I worked myself up."

André pulled himself out of the embrace. He reached for Jade's hands, which were still shaking uncontrollably. "Why don't we get you home? You shouldn't be here right now."

"No, I want to talk to Tori. I want to tell her that I'm happy for her."

"I'll pass along the message."

Jade shook her head, "You should be checking up on your wife. You shouldn't be coddling me. I am being so selfish right now."

"Right now, I have a friend who needs me."

Jade never felt so glad to be in her mother's house before. She had the craziest day on earth and all she wanted to do was drink a glass or two of wine and go to bed.

First she had to deal with the world finding out about her divorce. She had to answer phone calls from magazine editors who wanted her statement. Her manager and publicist had been trying to contact her all day she they could release statements, but she just ignored them.

And to top it all off, Tori was pregnant. Something about that fact made her stomach flip. Tori and André were having a baby.

The doorbell rang, pulling Jade out of her thoughts. She checked the time that was on top of the stove. 10:49 PM. Why would anyone be coming to see her at such a late hour?

Jade put down the bottle of wine she was holding and grabbed a steak knife, just to be safe. She slowly made her way to the front door and opened it. Beck was standing on the other side.

"What are you doing here?" Jade asked, silently cursing herself for opening the door.

"I came to see you." Beck replied. He crossed the threshold to the house and closed the door behind him.

"For what?"

"I needed to see how you were doing. I needed to know how you were."

"Why?"

"Because you're my wife, Jade." Jade rolled her eyes at the statement. It didn't go unnoticed by Beck. He watched her as she walked back into the kitchen and put the knife back where it belonged. "You're my wife. I know you hate it. I know you want to forget about me, but we're married. And I know you. I know you better than anyone else on this entire planet, and today..." Beck stopped himself mid-sentence to try to find the correct words. "Jade, you looked so heartbroken today, and I'll never be able to erase that look from my memory."

Jade swallowed and walked back into the living room, "And?"

"And you ran out of that room like a bat out of hell and I wanted to go after you, but I just froze."

"I didn't need you to come after me."

Beck took a step forward and Jade took one back. Beck took a few long strides and closed the gap in between them. He tried to reach out to Jade when she slapped him. Hard.

Beck reached up and touched his throbbing cheek. He shrugged. "You know what? Hit me as many times as you want. I deserve it. But I'm not leaving you again."

Beck quickly managed to wrap his arms around Jade, with one hand on the small of her back and the other on the back of her head.

As soon as Jade was in Beck's arms, something inside of her snapped. A sob escaped her throat and before she knew, she was crying uncontrollably.

Beck kissed the side of Jade's forehead, and ran his hand up and down her back, trying to keep her calm.

A few minutes later, Jade and Beck were on the couch. Jade had her head in Beck's lap and Beck was absentmindedly running his hand up and down Jade's arm.

"I really want to be happy for them." Jade said, breaking the comfortable silence they had fallen into. "I truly want to be happy for them. Why can't I be happy for them? Am I just a horrible person?"

"No. I've been asking myself the same question since I left the hospital."

"They are going to be really good parents. I know them. They're going to be amazing. I just can't bring myself to feel joy for them."

"I can't either. And I don't think they blame us."

"It just isn't fair." Jade cried. "I did everything right. We did everything right. No smoking, no drinking, no fish, no caffeine, no processed meats. I slept twelve hours a day, I exercised regularly. I took every fucking pre-natal vitamin my doctor gave to me, I didn't miss an appointment. But a fucking sixteen year old kid who is addicted to booze and pot with no job, no money, and no fucking clue can have a happy, healthy baby. And then they get to be on television. But our baby dies. How is that fair?"

Beck looked down at Jade's hand and noticed that it was curled into a tight ball. He uncurled her fist and noticed the crescent shaped imprints on her palm. "Despite it being a tough pill to swallow, I've come to realize that life is a bitch. It sucks. It sucks more than I thought was humanly possible."

"So that's all we get? Your baby dies, but c'est la vie. I know, there's no explanation justifiable and no cause of death will ever be good enough, but, I just want something. Anything. And now Tori and André get to have a baby, while ours is six feet under."

Beck grabbed Jade's hand and kissed her palm. He didn't want her to have another panic attack.

"One day we'll get our reasons and closure."

"But what if we don't?"

"We will. I promise you."

Jade slightly nodded at the answer she was given. She just let herself be lulled to sleep by Beck. And it almost felt like old times.

When Jade woke up, she instantly noticed the intense pain in her neck. She couldn't move it and she was in an awkward position. Once her eyes fully opened, she realized that she wasn't in her bedroom, but in the living room.

She heard a groan come from behind her. Jade slowly turned around and saw Beck behind her, sleeping. His arm was stuck under her head, and his other one was draped over her waist. What the hell was going on?

Her mind flashed back to the previous day. Her divorce announcement, Tori's hospital visit and subsequent pregnancy reveal, crying, Beck showing up at her mom's house, and then a lot more crying. Jade felt like she needed a nap just thinking about it.

Jade wiggled out of Beck's loose hold on her. She sat up and then got off of the couch. She heard Beck groan again and then some rustling. "Jade?"

Jade turned around and saw Beck looking at her, "Hi."

"How long have you been up?"

"I woke up a minute or so ago."

Beck rubbed his eyes and stifled a yawn. "How'd you sleep?"

"I would have slept a lot better if I was in a bed."

"Look Jade, about last night-"

"Can we not talk about last night?"

"Why not?"

"Because it isn't important."

"Well maybe you and I have different definitions of the word. It seemed pretty important."

Jade shuffled around the room, trying to work off some of the energy she had. "Don't get any ideas, okay. You were the only human being around I could cry on last night. Look, I appreciate you coming over here, but don't think we're getting back together or anything."

Beck shook his head, "Jade, I really don't want to get a divorce."

"Remember when you told me that we weren't getting divorced?"

"Or course."

"Well, I talked to my dad, and he told me that since we live in California, as long as I want a divorce, we can get one. You don't get to hold me hostage."

"I don't think you want to get a divorce, Jade."

"Oh, so now you know what I want?"

"I know you are so pissed at me. I get it and I understand it, but I don't think you really want to walk away from fourteen years of history."

"Why not? You already did."

Beck ran his hand down his face. He knew he wasn't going to win this battle today. Jade went back to being withdrawn and shut off from him. And here he was thinking they had actually made some progress.

Jade crossed her arms over her chest. She didn't want to talk to Beck anymore for the day. "Why don't you leave? I have stuff to do."

Beck nodded, "Okay." He stood up and walked over to Jade. He kissed the top of her forehead. "I'll see you soon."

"Goodbye, Beck. Have a nice day."

Beck walked out of the house, and before he could even turn around and say goodbye to Jade, she had closed the door on his face.

Beck frowned. He had just taken one step forward, and ten steps back. Now he was back to square one.

Have a happy week! I hope you guys all kick Monday's butt!
