POV: Bella
He was breath-taking. After all these years he only got better looking, or maybe it was the vampire in me talking... He stood there, looking every bit the gentleman he was back in the 1900s. Oh, I hope he wasn't changed by the modern society.
I walked faster, trying to get closer to him for a minute, but then I realised that he probably has a mate already. My pace stumbled slightly and the smile that was on his face faltered and fell for a slight moment.
I shot a smile in his direction before making up an excuse so I could get away. Yes, I believe so. He already has a mate, why wouldn't he? He was the most perfect creature I had ever met, he just had to and I wasn't willing to watch him be happy with anyone else.
I turned around to walk out of the room when I was stopped by Matthew. He was blocking my only exit.
"No" I could hear the resolve in his voice, he did not want me to leave the room.
"It isn't your choice." I snarled and pushed past him.
Anthony was only entering the room at this point. He looked at me curiously before his gaze landed on his father. He stared intently at Edward for a couple seconds, I could see the joy in his face. He was finally meeting his father after all these years.
I wanted what was best for him so I would leave him with Edward and I would stay with Garrett. I ran out of the door, no one was following me and that was good. I knew that Anthony would keep Edward preoccupied long enough for me to make my escape.
POV: Edward
She was running from me and I had no idea why. I wanted to go after her and I took a step forward before I realised that there was someone in the room that looked exactly like me. He was staring at me and i felt self-concious for a minute. He was a split image of me. How was that possible?
"Are you Edward?" He asked.
I simply nodded, I didn't have any words.
"You're my father" He said in awe
"I am?"
"Yes, my mother Bella grew pregnant with me when you were sick and after your death she gave birth." He explained and everything made sense. Of course she was pregnant. She seemed on edge before I had left.
*Flashback*
"Edward" She started and I wondered if she was finally going to tell me what she was so nervous about. "Would you like some tea?" I guess not. I smiled at her.
"Yes please Bella." She went into the kitchen to prepare the tea and returned about five minutes later with a kettle in her hands. She poured the hot water and when she had placed the kettle down I swept her into my arms.
"Edward, let me go!" She squealed.
"Bella. Please. Tell me what you are nervous about." I guess that it was the wrong thing to say because she froze and wiggled out of my arms. I felt the loss immediately. I looked at her retreating figure.
I sighed in annoyance and got up. I walked towards the closet and got dressed for work.
She stayed away from me for the rest of the day. When I returned she was cooking in the kitchen, normally she would be waiting for me at the door with a smile. I inhaled the aroma of chicken pie. She was a wonderful cook and I always had second helpings to her food. But today, my appetite was gone. I wanted to know what was bothering her.
"Bella?" I called out and got no reply. "Bella?" I tried again, louder, even though I knew she had heard me. "Bella" I walked into the kitchen now and wrapped my arms around her tiny waist. She stiffened and tried to get away but I pulled her back to me.
"Edward" She said, curtly. I felt hurt, but tried not to let it show.
She turned around and I could see the tears in her eyes. It was obvious that she had spend a good while crying before. My heart wrenched for her pain. I had to know and I had to know now.
"Bella, please tell me what is wrong." I said, my voice almost broke.
"Would you like to have some pie." She was trying to change the subject, but I knew better.
"Sure" I decided to play along and nodded, keeping my eyes on her the entire time.
"Bella..." I started, but was stopped. She had burst out crying now. "Bella?" I whispered and pulled her close to me, but she kept pulling away. This was driving a wedge between us.
"Your mother is coming over. She will bring your father. I have to go away for a while, but she will take care of you." She replied.
Right then the door bell rang and she went to open the door. I found out my mother was in on this, as she took Bella in her arms and softly cradled her face. The two women looked at each other for a minute before my mother pulled away and took my arm.
"Come Edward." She called to my father. He followed her in like a puppy, eyes doting on her. He truly did love her. I looked towards Bella. She was already gone.
"Mother" I said, my voice made it obvious I wanted answers.
"Bella is unsure of something and she wants to figure something out before she talks to you about it." It was all my mother said before sitting down at the table and serving my dad and herself some of Bella's pie. I sighed, I could tell that my mother was not going to say anything more.
*End of Flashback*
She had stayed at a friend's house, I learned later. When she came back I was only too glad to welcome her back with open arms.
*Flashback*
"Bella" I sighed with relief, when I saw her after opening the door. She looked terrified but I was determined now. After being away from her I just wanted us to be as one again. I hated the distance. I hate sleeping in the bed without her, it was too cold.
"Edward, I must tell you something." She said, her spirit fiery again and I was relieved. Perhaps now we could go back to normal.
"Sure, just sit down. Would you like a cup of tea" I asked, wanting her to be more comfortable. I know that husbands aren't supposed to do the house work, but I would do it for Bella. I would do anything for her.
"Let me-" I didn't let her finish
"Nonsense, I'll do it. You just relax and tell me what is the matter." I put the kettle on the stove and waited. I turned around and faced her. "What is it Bella?" She hesitated for a minute.
"I'm-" She was cut off again by my mother barging into the room.
"Edward, your father is in the hospital" We both looked at each other and as one rang and followed my mother out. Our conversation was forgotten.
*End of Flashback*
I never did find out what was wrong, until now.
"So, you are my son" I felt slow... He nodded.
"Let's go find my mum shall we?" Reality suddenly came crashing back to me. Bella. I forgot all about her in the confusion of meeting my son. "I'm Anthony by the way." He offered his hand I shook it.
"Let's go find her" I ran, following her scent. Hopefully she was not too far from here.
POV: Bella
I was running. I didn't want to look back. I didn't know how long I ran for but I heard someone following me after a while. My defensive instincts came up and I turned around to face my opponent. I stopped dead in my tracks. I slipped out of my defensive crouch when I saw who was my attacker.
Edward.
He straightened out from his own crouch. I stood as stiff as a board. Waiting for him to tell me to go away. However, it never came. He just continued to look at me. I told myself what I was going to say. I would not accept him and he was going to leave me and my son to live in peace. I didn't want him.
"Bella" He whispered and my resolve just crumbled. He opened his arms and I could stand it no longer, I ran into them.
"Oh, Edward" I sobbed "I've missed you" I buried my head in his chest. He was just as muscular and comforting as when we were married long ago.
"Bella. Bella. Bella" He whispered, nuzzling my hair. I inhaled his scent. Honey and lilac, so sweet and inviting. I don't know how long we stood there for, just wrapped up in each other's embrace before he pulled away. He stared into my eyes.
"Edward" I breathed
"Yes?" I suddenly remembered that he was mated to someone else and if that person saw us then she would probably get angry. I didn't want him to get in trouble with his mate, even though I wanted to stay here forever.
"Don't you need to go back to your wife?" I asked and the moment was gone. He pulled away completely and I felt the loss. The sparks that I felt when I touched he were gone. This is it I told myself, ready for reality to come crashing down on us. He would leave with his mate and I would be left alone again.
"My wife?" He was confused
"Yes" I was confused now, why did he have a wedding ring on if he wasn't married.
"Bella, I'm still married to you, unless you don't want to be." He gestured sadly to my ring less hand. I hesitated and he seemed to take it as a no. I just had to tell him.
"Edward" I pulled out the necklace that I always wore. On it was the ring that he had given me the day we wed. He gasped. "I always kept it on me. Right now I would like for you to return it to were it belongs." I handed him the ring and he took it and slid it on my finger, where it would remain for the rest of our lives.
"I love you" He said and our lips touched. Sparks ignited and I could no longer think about anything else. There was only him.
POV: Anthony
I was happy for mum and dad. I saw them embracing each other and I didn't want to intrude so I walked away, leaving it to them. They would sort out what they needed and I could talk with them later.
I was running back when a hand was clamped around my mouth and my arms restricted by a familiar presence.
"Don't say a word" It was Garrett. "You are coming with me" He snarled and I listened, fearful for my life.
"Why?" I asked, wanting to know why he was doing this to me. He was always nice to my mother. I hear his thoughts and intentions in his mind and I snarled. Of course, he loved her. I didn't know how I couldn't have heard this in his thoughts before, but he was a skilled vampire.
He pushed me into a small cabin after hours of running and I sat down in the chair he told me to sit down in.
"Your mother is everything to me and I'm not losing her to Edward. She belongs with me." He was growling, pacing the floor. He stayed like that growling every so often before finally turning to me. "Listen carefully, I have a job for you to do."
POV: Edward (When he was chasing Bella)
I ran for my life. I was not going to let her get away from me again. I had waited for so long to see her again and she was running. She always ran when the going got tough, but she hardly ran from me and it hurt.
When we were married the thing I love most about her was the fact she was always truthful with me. If she didn't like something she would tell me, even if I didn't want her to.
She was not running very fast. I knew this because in old a couple of minutes we had caught up to her. I hope she was not usually this slow, or else she was going to be an easy target for many vampires, should they choose to hunt her. I knew that she heard me come from behind her because she turned around, growling.
I stopped farther away from her than I liked but wanted to give her some space. I studied her as she shifted out of her hunting crouch. She had no ring on her finger, maybe she chose to believe I was dead and our marriage was no longer active. I would need to solve this problem soon. She seemed pained and my natural instinct to comfort her was activated.
"Bella" I whispered and I opened my arms in invitation. She ran into them and nuzzled her face into my chest, like she had done so many times before.
"Oh Edward" Her sweet voice was calling to me "I've missed you" I whispered her name again and again, soothing her.
"Edward" She whispered and I revelled in the sound.
"Yes?" I breathe, wanting to hear her voice again.
"Don't you need to get back to you wife?" I was confused, she was my wife and always would be.
"My wife?" I thought of her bare ring finger in sadness. I had to ask, in case I had heard what she said wrong.
"Yes"
I gestured to her finger.
"Bella, I'm still married to you, unless you don't want to be." My heart was starting to break at the thought that after all these years of waiting to find her, she didn't want me.
"Edward" She pulled out a necklace that I failed to notice was around her neck. On it was the ring that I had given to her on the day we wed. I gasped. "I always kept it on me. Right now I would like for you to return it to were it belongs."
Tears would have been in my eyes now if I was human as I slid the ring on her finger. It would stay there for the rest of our lives.
"I love you" I said, before reaching down and pressing my lips to hers.
