"Fairy Melody!" Sofia ran after the woman, careful not to trip on her own dress as she followed the briskly walking fairy into the school once more. "Fairy Melody wait up!" Sofia's small size and heavy dress made it difficult to keep up with her rather tall friend. Fairy Melody could move much faster than Sofia thought.
"Princess?" Hearing the young student's plea, Melody came to a stop and allowed for Sofia to catch up with her. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to help!" Sofia gave her an enthusiastic reply. "I know you can fix this! I just wanted to be around to see you do it!"
"You have so much confidence in me…" Melody could not help but smile at the Princess's earnest reply, it was rather comforting to hear.
"Of course I do! Because you're a great fairy!"
"… thank you, Sofia…" She smiled a bit more. "Can you do me a super huge favor?" She knelt down a bit so she could be on Sofia's level, rather than towering over her. (It was always so funny to see Melody's height when compared to the students and Brittany, even the three good fairies were small in comparison.)
"Of course!"
"I want you to find Fairy Brittany and Vivian, and I want you to meet me outside near the clock tower. Can you do that?" Melody sounded so sure of herself, it made Sofia happy to see her confident enough to take charge like this.
"I can!" Sofia gave an eager nod before running off into the depths of the school while Melody headed toward the boutique. It wasn't hard to figure out where Vivian had run off to, it was just a long journey as the art room was on the other side of the school. But Sofia found it, and saw her friend wiping away the last of her tears while Fairy Brittany consoled her. Sofia was a bit hesitant to enter at first, but it seemed like Vivian had really calmed down.
"Sofia…?" Vivian saw her before she had a chance to make herself known. "What are you doing here? I thought you would be on the trip…"
"Not without you!" Sofia replied, keeping her smile to make sure Vivian knew she was in no way upset with her.
"Why would you wait for me… you saw how awful I was to your sister…" Vivian looked ready to start crying all over again. "Even if it is a curse… you shouldn't hang around me or you'll end up getting cursed too…"
"But it's not a curse!" Sofia spoke up quickly.
"What…?" It was not just Vivian, but also Fairy Brittany who responded to Sofia's claim. Both of them looked rather confused. Sofia couldn't blame them, she was still unsure of what exactly was happening- but she trusted Melody's opinion.
"Fairy Melody said it's not a curse…"
"Melody said that?" Brittany sounded rather surprised. "I didn't know she even knew about curses. I mean… we didn't really go over them in class. I was just guessing on the curse thing to be perfectly honest…"
"But if it's not a curse, what is it?" Vivian asked briefly forgetting her troubles in favor of her growing curiosity.
"I don't know…" Sofia admitted. "But Fairy Melody asked us to meet her outside by the clock tower as soon as we can!"
"Then let's hurry!" Brittany took the lead. Sofia and Vivian trailing behind her. It seemed like Brittany was very intent on getting to the meeting ground as soon as possible. Perhaps the golden haired woman was just as curious as the two Princesses.
They found Melody kneeling outside with an old book in her hands as she was focused intently on the ground. For a moment Sofia wondered if the dark haired woman had fallen, but it seemed she was looking for something… or rather at something. As the group ran up, Melody held out a hand gesturing for them to stop- Sofia had never seen her looking more excited. "I was right!" Melody let out a cry as she saw them. "I was actually right!"
"Right about what!?" Brittany seemed stuck somewhere between excited and startled. "What's going on!?"
"Princesses stay back, Brittany you can come forward, but be careful. Don't step on the red flowers!" Melody still sounded thrilled by her discovery as she let Brittany walk carefully forward, suddenly becoming painfully aware of the little red blossoms scattered over the ground. As she reached Melody, she got down to her knees as well, looking at the book Melody had open on her lap as the raven haired fairy launched into an excited explanation. "Accessio, involucrata!" Actually, it seemed to be more of an excited exclamation.
"Was that a spell… what did you just do?" Brittany gave her a blank look. Sofia was glad to see she wasn't the only one confused by Melody's outburst.
"No no no! It's a flower!"
"I still don't follow…" Brittany looked at the book again but to her it was upside down. Melody looked briefly frustrated before she took a deep breath.
"Accessio, involucrata, also known as 'Rage Blossom' is a rare flower found on the Dark Isles in the wilderness." Melody began reading aloud from the old text in her hands. " It is a rare flower known by its vibrant red color, medium size, and is often found growing very close to the ground. The flower gets its common name from the fact that the pollen, when inhaled can cause sudden and extreme arguments in humans, as well as in most humanoid magical creatures including, but not limited to: Trolls, Mermaids, Fairies, etcetera etcetera…" she trailed off as she held the picture in the book for Brittany to see. The blonde stared at the page and her eyes widened.
"You're right! It's the flowers! Melody that's brilliant!" Brittany took the book from Melody reading over the pages excitedly. "A simple frost spell and we can put the buds back to sleep… that would stop the pollen."
"That's exactly what I was thinking!" Melody grinned happily. It seemed like Sofia was getting to see the two fairies at their finest. "But you should be the one to cast it; you're generally better at magic than I am…"
"You could do it if you wanted…" Brittany gave her a half-smile; the curly haired woman was still preoccupied with reading the old book. "Though… how did this kind of flower get all the way to Enchancia if it's native to the Dark Isles…?"
"Yeah… I wondered that too…" Melody trailed off looking thoughtful. Her eyes suddenly went wide and she had time for a very soft "Oh no" before the ground beneath them began shaking. "PRINCESSES!" Melody made a break for Sofia and Vivian but a large wall of thorny vines broke through the ground separating the fairies from the humans.
In the distance there was a bitter, slightly nasally laugh. Sofia recognized it instantly, as she peered through the small gaps in the vines she could see Miss Nettle- Flora, Fauna, and Merewether's old pupil as she flew down from the tower to land before the two fairies. Brittany was quick to get back to her feet as Melody already had he wand out. "Well well well," the woman spoke with a condescending drawl to her words. "If it isn't Fairy Godmother's best and worst students. Together again, are you? Enjoying your time at the Academy?"
"Oh no! It's…" Brittany gasped, but then trailed off looking over at Melody with a bit of a confused expression. "Have we met this woman…?"
"I'm gonna say no…." Melody replied her own eyes slightly widened not with fear but with uncertainty as she looked over the fairy in gold.
"We've never met." Miss Nettle spoke harshly as she pulled out her wand. "But I know you've heard of me: Flora, Fauna, and Merewether's most promising pupil. That is, of course, before I chose to take a different path…"
"Oh! Yes! I remember now! It's Miss… um…" Brittany looked slightly frustrated as she tried to recall the name.
"I wanna say it starts with like… an M? Maybe a U? " Melody looked back at Brittany. Sofia could not help but giggle a bit. Miss Nettle was obsessed with the idea of fame- not being known by the two fairies would drive her crazy. The Princess kept her voice low, however, she still did not want to draw attention to herself as she fished around for the spell the Three Good Fairies had given her before they left for the trip.
"You're thinking of Maleficent." Brittany pointed out.
"I'm really not." Melody replied dryly. "No no… it's like… Miss… Posey? Or Geranium or something… Like… I wanna say it's a flower pun…"
"It's Miss-"
"Don't tell us!" The two young fairies cried together, waving their arms. Sofia almost had the paper unfolded- trying to be as quiet as possible. She could not help but wonder if the two were stalling for her- but to her knowledge they did not know about the incantation the young Princess in purple had been given.
"POISON IVY!" Melody declared loudly as Sofia started to read the incantation under her breath. The sudden elevation in her voice… they WERE covering for the princess.
"That's it! TOTALLY IT!" Brittany cried excitedly and the two high fived before Miss Nettle burst out in a fit of anger.
"I have had ENOUGH OF YOUR STALLING!"
Sofia was nearly through with the spell but the branches before her moved and severed through the paper in her hand destroying it before she could finish. The vines then started to wrap around herself and Vivian who had been watching the two fairies- too frightened to speak out. This was Vivian's first encounter with the evil fairy- Sofia wanted to comfort her but there was nothing she could do her hands were quite literally tied. "You won't get away with this!" Sofia cried out, her bright eyes narrowing in anger as the curly haired fairy laughed snidely.
"How cliché, Princess." Miss Nettle scoffed. "Though I must say, I'm impressed anyone found my rage blossoms before they could affect those three Know-It-Alls that run this little shanty of a school… Still I can make my point heard."
"Let the girls go!" Miss Nettle turned her head at the sound of a surprisingly angry voice. She turned to see Brittany, her blue eyes blazing like sapphires, her rosy cheeks nearly crimson with anger as she pointed the pink star end of her wand directly at the woman. "You will not harm a student on this campus while we are here to protect them!"
"Brittany, calm down sweetheart." The woman's voice was like honey, thick and sweet enough to make one's stomach churn. "I'll let the girls go on one condition: I want you to fight me in a good, old fashioned, magic battle."
"M… me…?" Brittany looked completely stunned by the request. Her eyes had gone wide as she looked over at the two distressed girls in her care. Sofia tried her best to give the blonde a reassuring smile. She did not want Brittany to feel pressured- but at the same time, Sofia knew exactly how dangerous the fairy in yellow could be.
"Fairy Godmother's finest against Flora, Fauna, and Merewether's protégé. If you win, I leave. But if I win I get to do what I want at this school. And, I get your wands." Her eyes narrowed maliciously and Brittany paled slightly. "Go ahead and accept, Fairy Brittany, you'll find you have no other option if you want to see the Princesses safe…"
"I…" Brittany looked at Sofia, there was genuine concern in her crystal blue eyes. She swallowed hard, tightening her grip on her wand. She looked over at Melody who looked just as lost as the others. And with a deep breath, Brittany nodded her head. "I accept."
