~With Sam and Alice~
Sam ran after Alice, keeping her in his sight until she ran around a corner. "Alice wait!" Sam skidded around it and tried to see where she had hidden too. She wasn't ahead of him, he didn't see any of the doors open either so that left the open window as her escape. He peered out outside to see if she had jumped out to the ground. "I'm over here big guy." Sam heard her say with amusement in her voice. He looked up on the roof. Alice waved to him. "Hiya hotshot." Sam climbed out the window to join her. "You know it's dangerous to be out on the roof right?" Sam asked her. "And yet you joined me." Alice shot back. Sam chuckled. "Fair enough." They sat in silence for a time. "This is my hiding spot. My parents never to think to look for me here and everyone else doesn't bother to clue them in on it. They understand that I need my space so they let me be." Alice said without looking at Sam. "Sounds lonely Alice." Sam told her. "Call me Ali Sam, only my parents call me Alice. And no, not really. Here I can remember my sister without anyone judging me or trying to get me to shut up." They fell into a silence again. Sam broke the silence. "Why doesn't your parents want anyone to know about your twin sister? Why do they want you to be like her?" Alice sighed and looked over to him, meeting his eyes. He could see how sad and weary she was of her situation. "You sure you want to know?" Sam nodded. Alice sighed again. "Elizabeth was the golden girl. She was everyone's favorite star for practically everything. She didn't even have to try to get something done, everything was handed to her. Literally nothing could challenge her. Everyone loved her, they couldn't hate her if they tried with everything they had." Alice gave Sam a small bitter smile. "Me on the other hand...I had to fight tooth and nail to get anything. I had no support for anything I did unless Lizzy gave it to me. My parents didn't want me, never gave me anything unless Lizzy mentioned it. I was the surprise baby, my parents didn't know they were going to have twins. They only wanted one child but they got two instead. I was the unwanted child of us." Alice gave a small laugh. "No one could believe that me and Lizzy were related, let alone twins! Lizzy was a private school angel and I was the evil punk with colored hair in public school. Sometimes we would switch to see who would notice and during one of those times Lizzy met Jake." Alice eyes got a faraway look in them. "He was different than any of her boyfriends she had. He was one of my friends in my high school *ROTC unit, not the rich snobby boys she had been with before. He was aiming to join the Air Force once he got out of school. He had a plan for his life all set out and laid in stone. Jake didn't plan on meeting Lizzy though. She didn't plan on meeting him either but they met and fell for each other like the 'love at first sight' cliche. I was happy for them both but I warned Jake I would kill him if he hurt her and the cops wouldn't be able to find his body. He told me that I wouldn't need to bother because a life without Lizzy wasn't worth living to him. It was all sunshine and roses for them until my parents found out about their relationship." Alice's expression darkened. "Lizzy brought Jake over to meet them one day and they immediately hated him just because I knew him first! They didn't even give him a chance to prove himself before they were demanding him to get out of the house! They called him a bad influence because he was my friend and all my friends in my parents eyes were worthless trash like I am." Alice sighed. "Lizzy...she took it hard. She started sneaking alcohol from dad's study to drink herself to sleep, to not feel the pain they had caused her. I couldn't make her stop so I was watching her to make sure she didn't do anything else stupid. Jake was doing the same thing she was but he didn't have anyone looking out for him like I was with Lizzy. He got kicked out of school after about a month of that and was on the streets. I tried to help them both but I could never do enough. But one night I was able to sneak Lizzy out of the house to meet Jake. They were both drunk already for the night but I knew that they needed to see what the other was doing to themselves. I had Jake meet us downtown so my parents wouldn't be able to find us. And that was the night of the accident. Somehow Jake ended up driving the car. I didn't want him too, I knew he was wasted to even see but Lizzy needed my help with something in the back seat and while I was busy with her he snuck into the driver's seat. I told him to pull over before he hit something or someone but he kept saying he got it. Lizzy kept telling me it was okay but I knew something was going to happen, something really bad but they didn't listen to me." Silent tears started to fall from her eyes. "Jake...he drove through a stop sign and into an intersection. I didn't even see the semi coming that crashed into his side of the car. Damn thing hit us hard enough to make us flip over. Jake died on impact and Lizzy broke her neck in the flip cause she didn't have a seatbelt on. They both didn't know what happened to them. I was conscious until the paramedics came. I remember trying to get Jake and Lizzy to say something, anything to let me know they were alive. But they didn't say anything, they didn't move. I knew that they were gone but I kept trying to make sure that they would be okay. But they stayed silent. And then the next thing I remember I was dead." Sam sat there stunned. "You remember being dead?" Alice nodded and wiped away a couple of her tears. "Yeah. I was in a coma for about a month after the accident. Technically brain dead. The doctors didn't think I would ever wake up. Said it was a miracle I did without any lasting side effects." "And you remember being a spirit?" Alice nodded. "Oh yeah. I remember almost everything and where I was." "Can you tell me?" Sam asked her. She blinked in surprise before answering. "Okay well my first immediate thought was that I was dead. That much I was sure of, just had a gut feeling you know? I didn't know for how long I was dead, but I knew I was a ghost and for some reason that didn't bother me. I couldn't see anyone I recognized, but I knew that Lizzy and Jake was here somewhere with me. I didn't know where anyone else was. So I looked around and saw I was in a playground. Children were passing through me, laughing with each other. I started to look for Lizzy when she popped up in front of my face. She was laughing and smiling because she found Jake. He appeared right beside her and I smiled at him. Then I looked around to see where we were. We near my old high school, across the street from it at the playground that had just been built that year. I looked at were my old Japanese class was at the front of the school. I got curious about it so I started to walk towards it. Lizzy caught my hand, making me stop. I made a motion to her, trying to tell her I would be right back. I didn't try to talk because I knew somehow that I wouldn't be able to and she wouldn't hear me. Anyway she nodded and let me go. So I walked up the familiar steps to the classroom and saw my old teacher was talking to the new faces around the room. He was asking about verbs for the sentences. I never did like them so I tuned it out and I walked to the board. The date was erased so I guessed it was a quiz day. My teacher never had the date on the board on a quiz day because people would try to cheat even though the date wouldn't help the poor bastards, myself being one of them. There was also hirogana on the blackboard. It was in the first couple rows so I knew these were first year students. Anyway I turned back to my teacher. He looked the same as the last time I saw him so I knew that I couldn't been dead long. Then I looked around the room. None of the eyes connected with mine so I knew that they couldn't see me. All done checking things out I turned to the door to go back to Jake and Lizzy. I heard my teacher starting to tell them a story but he was talking in English. I stopped to listen, cause whenever he talked in English it was important. It was about an old student of his. He didn't say the person's name, only that they had been a former student of his when something had happened to them. They had been with their sister and a friend when all three had been hit by a drunk driver who had also been killed. When he said that I turned cold. I knew that story was about me, Lizzy, and Jake. But I knew it was wrong since Jake and Lizzy were the drunk ones, not the other driver. I walked up to my teacher and tried to get his attention but he just looked right through me. Panicking a little bit I looked around the room and spotted a girl who quickly looked at me then looked away. I walked up to her and made pleading motions to her but she tried to pretend not to see me. I put my hand on her arm to beg her to help me and suddenly I was inside her body. I looked at my teacher and asked him when it happened, but he dodged the question. I tried to get him to say where the rest of my family was but he dodged that to. I 'melted' out of the girl and started to walk out. I looked back at her and bowed, hoping she took it as a thank you since it was meant as one. After that I ran back to where Lizzy and Jake were. I didn't find them where I left them so I started to walked around the playground. Soon I found Jake with a little girl. He was motioning her to get out before I came back. I walked up to him and asked with my hands what he was doing and talking about. He just motioned to the girl. I saw Lizzy 'melt' out of her and I asked her why she did that to a little girl for. She said nothing and just frowned at me. I thought I saw a thread of black across her face but when I blinked it wasn't there anymore. I didn't want to tell Lizzy about it, gut feeling again, so I told them what happened to us. Jake looked down at his feet sadly but Lizzy didn't even look bothered. She got up and walked to a small child that was running past us. Before we could stop her she grabbed the kid's arm and was inside them. I told her to get out of the child, but she just looked at me. She said that she thought our lives were cut too short so we would need replacements to live in. I got really mad at that. I didn't even want to see her right then so I left to go to my old teacher's room again. I walked in and sat on the floor by the door. My teacher was talking about the hirogana on the board this time so I didn't pay attention. I was too busy wondering why I didn't want Lizzy inside the children. All I had was a feeling that something bad would happen to her if she kept going into people. I sat there and sat there and sat there wondering about that feeling. After a some time passed I got up and went outside to talk to Lizzy. She was standing on top of the slide in the same kid's body. Just standing there, holding on the safety bars while Jake was trying to talk her down. He was pleading with her to get out of the kid still. I walked to the end of the slide and asked her to come down. She smiled and 'melted' out of the kid's body and stood right in front of me. There was black threads all over her. I told my twin that the threads were making her do terrible things but she didn't pay any attention to me. A little boy had run up behind us while I was trying to talk to her. She started to reach for him and I tried to grasp her hands but the threads shocked me. So I tried stepping in front of her and she threw me to ground. Just before she was going to grab the boy Jake grabbed her from behind and told her that it was time to go, his voice sounding a little more hoarse than usual but still the same. This pure light shined on both of them, erasing all of the black threads from them. Lizzy said yes it was and that she was so tired. As the light started to fade so did Lizzy and Jake. I tried to grab them because I wanted to go with them. I knew that if I didn't I would be left behind by myself and I was so scared of that. I started to cry and silently beg them to take me with them but they were already gone. After that I was all alone." Alice fell silent. Sam gave her a moment before he started his questions. "How did you wake up Alice?" He asked gently. "I don't know. After they left I ended up in a black void and just stayed there for the rest of the time I was dead." They fell silent until the heat of the sun disappeared and they had to head inside to keep warm. "Hey Sam?" Alice said. "Yeah?" "Thanks for listening to me and not calling me crazy." "You're welcome Ali."
Notes: *ROTC - Reserve Officers Training Core = ROTC programs can be any branch of the military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. I was in an Air Force branch.
Me: And thats it! Thanks for your patience waiting with me getting my life sorted together. As I am now in college I am getting my ass handed to me with the courses so updating will be infrequent. Example: my current math course is having me do my homework like English homework so it takes me like 5 days to get it done. *rolls my eyes*
Alice: *pops up beside me* That's stupid.
Me: *nods* I know. Don't think my professor understands that.
Naru: Or you're just stupid.
Dean: *laughs and high fives Naru* Good one dude!
Me: *glares* Alice go get Meg, Mai, and HER. I think these two boys need a lesson.
Dean: Oh shit! Run man run! *grabs Naru and runs away*
Me: *runs after them* You're not getting away that easy you assholes!
Alice: *sighs* Reviews are welcome!
