Edward POV

Kelsey's eyes focused on her surroundings. The color of her eyes were dull, filled with pain, her medication was wearing off, but she was alert. She looked at me, then Carlisle, then Zack, and finally Bella.

"Bella…" Kelsey's croaked. Her voice was thick with pain.

"Hey, you're awake. How're you feeling?" Bella asked. Tears were streaming down her cheeks as she stared helplessly at her sister. Bella had her hand on Kelsey's leg that wasn't fractured.

"Like shit…what…what happened?" Kelsey tried to move, but she winced and a small cry of pain left her lips. I didn't miss the way Bella flinched at seeing her sister in pain. I put a hand on her lower back and rubbed it soothingly. Bella relaxed slightly.

"Kelsey, I'm Carlisle, do you remember me?" Carlisle asked as he moved to lean over Kelsey. He had a flashlight in his hand.

"Yes." Kelsey said as she allowed Carlisle to check her eyes, heart, ears, and temperature.

"Can you tell me your full name, and birthday?" Carlisle asked in his doctor voice.

Kelsey swallowed before replying. "Kelsey Reagan Cain. August 14…don't know the year exactly."

Carlisle looked to Bella for confirmation. Bella nodded to confirm the information. I raised an eyebrow at her.

"We aren't really sisters, obviously, but we both take my last name. We were born so long ago and we didn't know how to tell time by years until we starting living with humans." Bella whispered her explanation. I nodded in understanding.

"Do you remember anything about what happened to you?" Zack spoke up this time. He was standing a little further from Kelsey.

Kelsey looked over at him, her thoughts were still cloudy, but I was able to make out that she was embarrassed. A flicker of something, recognition, flashed behind her eyes when she looked at Zack. She blushed and looked down before replying.

"I don't know…I remember leaving Bella at home and going into work. At 11, I went on break and decided to go get something to eat and some energy drinks. I was tired…very tired…I closed my eyes for a second. When I opened them…there was something in the road. I swerved to miss it…then I woke up here." By the end of her explanation, Kelsey was starting to cry.

We all shared a look. She didn't know what, or who, had caused her to wreck.

"Am I going to be okay?" Kelsey asked between her tears.

Zack stiffened and he stared at the ground. Keep it together Zack. Kelsey would find it weird if you tried to comfort her. She doesn't even know you stayed by her side. Zack was fighting himself. He wanted to tell Kelsey she was fine and he wouldn't let anything hurt her again.

"Yes, you just have a long road ahead of you. But, with enough blood and rest, you should heal within a month or so. You have already shown improvement while you were unconscious." Carlisle said as he wrote some notes on his clipboard.

Kelsey's eyes widened in shock. "How long have I been out?"

"Not long. Just a day." Bella assured her. Bella moved to sit in the chair next to Kelsey.

"Oh no…what about work? Bella I am so sorry! What are we going to do?! Our bills are due…I've probably been fired! Oh no, no, no…" Kelsey began to panic and breath erratically.

"Kelsey! Calm down! Listen to me!" Bella had grabbed Kelsey's face carefully.

Kelsey was practically sobbing now. Zack ran out of the room.

"Don't worry about money or bills or work. We will make it. I promise." Bella said softly. Bella was crying again as she comforted her sister.

Kelsey nodded. Her eyes were confused though. An expression of familiarity crossed her face. A knock sounded at the door.

"It's Alice." I said automatically. Alice was planning on revealing her news of the girls moving in.

"Come in." Carlisle called as he looked over Kelsey's vitals.

Alice skipped through the doorway and stopped next to me. She smiled at Bella and Kelsey's reunion.

"Actually, Kelsey, I had a vision." Alice began as she rocked back and forth on her heels.

"About?" Kelsey asked with a frown.

"Well, your building manager is going to kick you out for missing rent despite your wreck. Before you freak out," Alice said after seeing the rage behind Kelsey's eyes, "I had the vision and immediately began plans on making you and Bella rooms here with us. Esme, Rosalie, and I are almost done actually. If you want to pay rent or bills, Esme and Carlisle will be willing to discuss it with you." Like they would ever charge you to live here, they love you, duh. Alice said the last part mentally.

"No." Kelsey stated as her frown deepened.

"Yes, we would love to." Bella said with a smile.

Kelsey whipped her head in Bella's direction to argue, but Bella gave her a look. Kelsey's thoughts were gone from me and I knew they were mentally communicating. There were a few looks exchanged that I could read clearly: anger, frustration, sadness, more anger. Finally, acceptance crossed Kelsey's face and she dropped her head. Bella looked proud of herself.

"Okay Alice…thank you. We will stay here." Kelsey practically whispered the words. She closed her eyes and laid her head against her pillow. Her thoughts were upset.

"Kelsey, the school has been alerted about your absence. I informed them it was mono, so your absence will be excused." Carlisle informed Kelsey as he made a move to the door.

"Thank you Carlisle." Kelsey said with a sigh.

"Zack will be in soon to give you more blood and more medication. Also, we will be doing some tests soon just to make sure everything is healing properly, but I will give you time to visit." Carlisle had a smile playing on his lips as he listened to Zack growl from downstairs. Carlisle was playing matchmaker.

I raised an eyebrow and smirked at him. Carlisle smiled and shrugged before walking away. I decided I would give the girl's time to talk, maybe everyone would be willing to go hunting for a bit.

We will be ready to go as soon as you tell them we are leaving. Alice said to me in her thoughts.

"Well, I think we are all going to go hunting for a bit. We will be back soon." I said as I walked towards the door. "If you need anything, yell."

Bella looked up and nodded with a smile. I returned her smile before exiting the room and going downstairs.

Bella POV

Kelsey and I sat in silence for a few minutes until the Cullen's were out of ear shot.

"Bella I'm sorry for what happened. I promise I will get a job as soon as I get better and…" I cut Kelsey off before she could finish. Her eyes were wide and filled with tears.

"Kelsey stop. We are going to be fine. You need to focus on getting better." I told her as I leaned back in my chair. Sometimes I wondered how Kelsey could be so selfless. To be honest, I was jealous of her. There were so many things she had given up for me without a second thought. She had turned into a mother rather than a sister.

Kelsey sighed but nodded. "You and Edward have been spending a lot of time together." It was a statement, not a question.

I blushed and Kelsey raised her eyebrows. She knew I liked Edward. Even when she was unconscious Kelsey still knew what was going on in my life.

"Not a lot of time…" I tried to defend myself. But the memory of Edward holding me as I fell asleep last night crossed my mind and I grinned.

Kelsey chuckled at my love-struck smile and I just shrugged.

"So I'm falling for him. Big deal." I rolled my eyes and glared at her. "Don't act like you haven't thought about Zack in a more than friendly manner."

Kelsey shot me a glare but sighed. "I don't have time to fall for anyone right now Bells. But, he is cute, isn't he?" A smile played at Kelsey's lips. She was trying hard to keep up her independent façade.

I nodded my head and smiled. "He might get angry at me for telling you this…but, he has been the one by your side since he found you."

Kelsey blinked in surprise. It took her a moment before she could form words. "Really?"

"Mhm, he held your hand the entire time too. He's already wrapped around your finger and you've been unconscious for a day." I said with a laugh.

"Well…I can take care of myself." Kelsey huffed and then pouted. I rolled my eyes at her childish comment.

Kelsey was silent for another moment. Tears formed in her eyes and I panicked.

"Kels are you okay? Are you in pain?" I asked as I moved closer.

Kelsey used the arm that wasn't injured to wipe the tears from her face before speaking.

"No…well yes, but that's not why I'm crying." Kelsey took a deep breath and looked directly at me. The sadness in her eyes was intense. "I saw mom."

"What?" I asked shocked. What does she mean she saw her? Carlisle said Kelsey had been stable the entire time. She didn't flat line once.

"I don't know how…but as soon as I wrecked…I ended up somewhere different. Mom was there. She hugged me…told me she missed me and loved me…told me dad missed me and loved me too. She talked with me and braided my hair…told me how proud they were of me." Kelsey was almost sobbing now.

I was in tears as I watched the sadness and frustration grow behind Kelsey's eyes. "Oh Kelsey…"

"She told me I had a man and a family waiting for me at home…that you had found someone to care for you and that I needed to let everything go and enjoy life…but Bella I can't do that. I lost the two people I loved most. They were taken from me and I can't take the thought of losing you. I know when I am taking care of you that you are safe. That's my job Bella. You are more important than anyone else. I can't get close to anyone because in a matter of seconds they can be taken from me. What if I fall in love with this family and something happens and they're taken from me. That time I almost lost you…I vowed to never let you leave my side again. I can't Bella…I can't, I can't…" Kelsey was sobbing uncontrollably now.

I got into bed with her and hugged her as close as I could without harming her. Kelsey cried and I comforted her. Usually it was the other way around. I stroked her hair and shushed her. I told her I was proud of her and that I loved her. Reminded her that she was all I had too because, in truth, Kelsey was the only real family I had left. Tears pricked my eyes again as that thought crossed my mind. I silently cried while comforting Kelsey, like she had done for me so many times before. After a while, the crying stopped. Kelsey sniffed and leaned away from me in her manner of trying to act bulletproof. She wiped her eyes and cleared her throat.

"Sorry Bells…" Kelsey trailed off lamely and winced. She looked down at herself for once and gasped. "What all is wrong with me?"

I winced thinking about everything Carlisle had told me. "A lot. But you're healing and that's all that matters." I didn't want to talk about her injuries.

Kelsey sensed this and changed the subject. "You want to live here." Again, it was a statement, not a question.

I just nodded my head slowly. I really did. I wasn't going to tell her it was because of Edward though. Kelsey's eyes moved around the room for a moment. Eventually she looked down and sighed.

"I'll try and like it for your sake Bells. I guess I just have an independence-complex." Kelsey admitted sheepishly.

I shot her a 'no kidding' kind of look. Kelsey just glared back and rolled her eyes. We sat in silence for a few moments before either of us spoke.

"Your birthday is in a few days…" I commented lightly with a grin.

Kelsey glared, like usual, and sent me a reprimanding look. "Isabella Marie…" Kelsey trailed off, her voice taking a threatening turn.

"Let's see, you are bed ridden for a month at the least, you won't be able to stop me…I'm sure Alice would love to throw you a party…" My teasing was cut off when I was painfully shocked.

"Ow…" I mumbled and pouted as I moved away from Kelsey with a glare.

Kelsey shrugged as if she hadn't just tried to fry me. "I might be hurt, but I'm not down completely."

I smiled at her optimism. Kelsey smiled back and took a deep breath. She gasped and a painful sound left her lips. It was definitely time for some pain medicine. Just then I heard footsteps coming from outside. The Cullen's were on their way home. I stood up and moved away from Kelsey's bed. She was concentrating on breathing slowly, trying to fight the pain. There was a knock at the door.

"Come in." I said as I looked towards the door.

Carlisle walked in with Zack trailing behind him. Carlisle smiled at me while Zack kept his head down. I glanced over to Kelsey and noticed that she was staring at Zack. She must have realized it because she blushed and ducked her head. She tried to move around to relieve her embarrassment, but it only caused her to hiss in pain. Zack's head shot up. His eyes were filled with concern, but he let Carlisle tend to her instead.

"How's your pain?" Carlisle asked as he checked Kelsey's monitors.

I could tell she was about to lie to him, so I shot her a look. Kelsey glared at me but mumbled her response anyways. "Not too good."

Carlisle took notes before turning to his son. "Zack, retrieve another bag of blood and the pain medicine. We will do some tests after your pain medicine begins to take effect." Carlisle informed Kelsey.

Kelsey nodded and watched casually as Zack left the room. I saw something, hope I think, flash behind her eyes before she replaced it with her blank expression. I shook my head at her stubbornness.

"I am going to go downstairs Kels. If you need me, call for me." I told Kelsey as I moved towards the door.

"Okay Bells. See you later." Kelsey mumbled as she continued to be poked and prodded by Carlisle.

I left the third floor in search of Edward. Sniffing, I attempted to find his scent. Before I could hone in on his delectable smell, I was attacked by a pixie.

"Bella! Will you let me dress you up! PLEASE!" Alice was bouncing up and down like she was on a pogo stick. She had my left arm grasped in both of hers causing it to be jerked around.

"Why?" I whined as she continued to bounce.

"Because I asked nicely and Edward isn't here to distract you from me!" Alice informed me matter-of-factly.

I opened my mouth to argue, but closed it. There was no point in arguing with her. Besides, I was too depressed that Edward wasn't home. I dropped my head in sadness and defeat and allowed the squealing pixie to drag me away as I groaned.

Alice not-so-lightly shoved me into a chair that was placed in her bathroom. I decided to try and relax. Maybe this won't be so bad. No, no it will be.

"Come in Rose!" Alice called from inside her closet.

Rosalie gracefully walked into the room and found me in Alice's bathroom. She smiled kindly at me and I returned it.

"I thought I would come spend some time with you and Alice, is that okay?" I noticed how her confidence slipped a little at the end of her question.

"Of course. But, can I trust that if Alice gets too crazy you'll distract her so I can run to California?" I said the last part in a whisper and attempted to plaster a serious look on my face.

Rosalie's melodious laugh echoed of the bathroom walls and I couldn't help but join in with her. When we had settled down, Alice pranced in with her arms full of clothes and beauty products. She set them down on the counter and put her hands on her hips. Alice glared mockingly at us as we attempted to look calm and collected.

"Bella, no matter where you run, I will chase you, and I will find you." Alice's face was completely serious.

Rosalie looked at me and we lost it again. This time Alice joined in. We calmed down and Alice began poking and prodding at me. Rosalie was painting my nails a coral pink color. It was silent for a while before someone spoke.

"So…how did you all come to be with Carlisle?" I asked nervously. I was hoping I hadn't pried.

"Well, Carlisle changed Edward first. Then he changed Esme. After Esme, Carlisle changed me and then Emmett. Alice and Jasper found us." Rosalie explained as she expertly painted my pinky nail.

"When I was changed, I had absolutely no memory of my human life. All I had were my visions of the future. The visions led me to Jasper and then the Cullen's." Alice elaborated.

"That must have been hard convincing Jasper that you weren't crazy." I said with a chuckle.

Alice giggled and nodded her head. "It took me an entire day to convince him. But he could feel the truth coming off of me and the love."

"You know, Emmett was the most accepting of this life." Rosalie commented as she went over my nails again.

"How so?" I asked curiously.

"Well, once he woke up from his change, we told him what he was and what had happened. His response? 'Cool!'" Rosalie mocked Emmett perfectly and it caused me to laugh.

"That sounds like Emmett." I said thoughtfully.

Rosalie just shook her head and smiled fondly.

"Bella, what was is like for you growing up?" Alice asked conversationally. "Feel free to ignore the question if you don't want to answer." She quickly added at the end.

I thought for a moment, memories flashing across my mind.

"Wonderful. Kelsey and I were so close. Our parents were nothing short of perfect. They taught us so much. Since our fathers had lived among humans they were able to teach us things like reading, writing, math, history…our mothers taught us about nature and animals…we were well rounded for two girls that grew up in the forest." I replied wistfully. Life was so simple then…

"What about after your parent's deaths? How did you integrate into human life?" Rosalie looked at me as she asked her question. Her gold eyes shined with curiosity.

"Well…we didn't at first. We didn't know what to do. How were two strange girls supposed to just show up, with no parents, during that time period? Not to mention we had never encountered human blood. What if we slipped? For a few years we stayed in the forest…stealing when we needed clothes or wanted food. After a couple decades we slowly began showing ourselves in public, briefly, but we were questioned a lot. Mind you, I'm still working on my power during this time. Eventually I was able to conjure almost anything I wanted with my mind. That's how we were able to start school. I faked all of our records." I admittedly the last part quietly. I felt bad for deceiving people.

"Don't feel bad Bella. How do you think we got all of our records?" Rosalie said as she began applying makeup to my face lightly.

"Yeah, they're all fake. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do." Alice assured me with a pat on the shoulder.

"I know but still…some days it really gets to me." I told them with a sigh.

"Then it's a good thing you and Kelsey have a new family to help." Alice said brightly.

I grinned and nodded in agreement. Alice and Rosalie pulled their hands away and looked at me approvingly.

"Here, go put this on!" Alice squealed as she handed me some clothes.

I hopped out of my chair and took the clothes without argument. Alice and Rose left the bathroom to let me change. I decided to put off looking in the mirror until I had put my clothes on. Alice had given me a pair of black leggings that fit me like a glove. The shirt was a baggy red sweater that was just loose enough that it fell around me the right way without looking too big. The shoes were light, brown-beige combat boots. I put the pieces on and turned towards the mirror. I couldn't help the gasp that slipped out between my lips when I looked at Alice and Rosalie's work. My normally unruly hair was perfectly straight and braided on both sides to the back of my head. I had minimal foundation on, but my eyes were shining brighter with the neutral, glittery eye Alice had given me with thick, dark, lined lashes. I immediately wondered what Alice was going to think. I grinned to myself and walked out of the bathroom.

Alice squealed when she saw me and Rosalie smiled appreciatively.

"Oh Bella! You are so much fun to dress up! I wonder if Kelsey would let me dress her up…" Alice trailed off as she had a vision. Alice pouted. I assumed Kelsey was going to turn her down for a makeover.

"You are a stunner Bella. No wonder my brother has become a hormonal teenager again." Rosalie sent me a wink and laughed.

I blushed but couldn't fight my grin. "I appreciate you two wanting to spend time with me and play Barbie, but why am I dressed up?"

"Well, technically this is a casual outfit, not a dressy outfit, and secondly, because you and Edward are going to the grocery store!" Alice said as she began bouncing.

I couldn't help the expression that crossed my face. Rosalie busted out in giggles at my face.

"What the hell Alice? The grocery? Seriously? I was poked and prodded just to parade around the grocery store?!" I shouldn't have expected any less from Alice. I crossed my arms and huffed. Stupid pixie.

Alice immediately became defensive. "Isabella! You never know who you could meet when you are out in public! You need to look your best every day." Alice ended her rant by crossing her arms and huffing.

I opened my mouth to argue but decided against it. I sighed and shook my head. Then I turned to Rosalie.

"I appreciate your normalcy Rosalie." I tried to convey my seriousness to her and she laughed.

"Thank you Bella." Rosalie said with a smile.

Alice huffed and stuck her tongue out at me before grabbing my arm and pulling me out of her room. She gave me a push out the door and smiled sweetly before disappearing inside her bedroom.

"Strange pixie." I muttered as I made my way to the third floor.

"I HEARD THAT!" Alice screamed at me.

"That's why I said it!" I replied in a sing-song voice.

I knocked on the door to the room Kelsey was staying in.

"Come in." Zack half-whispered.

I walked in and saw Kelsey sleeping. She was snoring softly, which told me she was sleeping and not unconscious. Zack was next to her, but he was busy working on setting up a TV.

"What are you doing?" I whispered with a chuckle.

Zack looked up briefly and grinned before returning to what he was doing. "Well, Carlisle said Kelsey wouldn't be able to leave her bed for a few more days. She got upset so I decided to set up a TV with some movies so she wouldn't be as bored."

"Awwwwe, Zack's in loooove." I teased with a giggle. The look Zack sent me caused me to laugh louder.

Kelsey moved around for a second. Her snoring ceased briefly before mumbling and falling back to sleep.

Zack moved in front of me at vampire speed. "Please, don't say that around her."

"Why not?" I asked with an eyebrow raised.

"Because. She doesn't need to know that…not now." Zack was very adamant about this.

I gave him a "seriously" look. He nodded curtly in return.

"So you are going to ignore that you love her?" I accused with my arms crossed.

"Yes. For now." Zack glared at me and I returned it.

We continued our glaring contest for another moment before I spoke.

"Fine. But sooner or later you're going to have to tell her if she hasn't already figured it out on her own yet." I pointed out.

"I know. I just don't feel like saying, 'hey, you are my mate and I love you but I've only known you for like two days' is appropriate since she just woke up and it still confined to a bed with wires and tubes and monitors." Zack explained.

I looked at him for a moment and saw the frustration in his eyes. Zack wasn't able to spend time with Kelsey like I did with Edward. Kelsey wasn't even happy to be around anyone as it is. I nodded my head at him before turning to leave. I pranced down the stairs in search of Edward. His scent crossed my nose. He was in the kitchen. I walked into the Cullen's large kitchen to find Esme writing a list and Edward adding things to it.

"Hi!" I said cheerily to announce my entrance.

Esme and Edward looked up. Esme smiled sweetly before turning back to her list. Edward's eyes lingered on me for a moment before he sent me a crooked grin. I blushed and walked over to him.

"You look lovely." Edward complimented as he kissed my head.

"Thank you. Alice decided I needed a new outfit for the grocery store." I rolled my eyes at her absurd way of thinking.

Edward chuckled and I couldn't help but smile.

"Okay Bella, since you and Kelsey are the only ones that can eat, I need you and Edward to go to the grocery and pick up these items along with anything else you two might like. And I mean anything. Edward, don't let Bella walk away without getting everything they could like." Esme gave Edward a look, a mom look, causing Edward to salute her like a soldier.

Esme smiled and kissed my cheek as she left the kitchen.

"Ready?" Edward asked as he stuffed the list in his pocket.

I nodded and took his outstretched hand. He led me outside and we sped off in his Volvo to the grocery store.

Kelsey POV

Some shuffling brought me out of the medicated sleep I was having. My eyes fluttered open and I looked around. On the floor was Zack. He was sorting some DVDs. It was then I noticed the large, flat screen TV hooked up in front of my bed along with an Xbox. Did he hook that up for me? I wondered as I watched him organize the DVDs on the floor. I admired the way his broad shoulders looked in his cut off shirt. They were muscled along with his arms, legs…well entire body really. He and Emmett rivaled in size. For a brief moment, I imagined myself lightly touching those shoulder…but I quickly squashed that thought and blushed.

"What are you doing?" I asked loudly.

Zack's head whipped around and he looked surprised. He grinned sheepishly before moving to my bedside. He was keeping a safe distance from me. Part of me liked that, but another part wanted to climb into his lap to close the distance.

"Well, I figured since you couldn't leave this bed for a few more days, you might want to have something to keep you busy." Zack said casually with a shrug. He crossed his arms and my eyes caught the way his muscles moved.

"Oh." I said lamely.

It was awkward for a moment. I had never really spoken to a guy let alone had one do something nice for me.

"Yeah…well, just let me know what kind of movie you want to watch…and I'll put it in and, uh, leave you alone I guess." Zack frowned and was rubbing the back of his head nervously. I found that kind of cute.

"What do you have?" I asked curiously.

Zack flitted away for a moment before returning with a stack of movies. He spread them out and was about to name them off. I saw one that immediately caught my eye and immediately became excited.

"That one!" I demanded as I pointed to it with my good hand.

Zack raised an eyebrow in shock and lifted the movie up.

"This one?" I nodded. "You like this movie?" He asked with a small smile.

"Like it? Love it! It's my favorite." I said matter-of-factly.

Zack's eyes brightened and he grinned. "Mine too." He left my side and popped the DVD into the Xbox and waited for the opening title to appear. He pressed play and made a move to leave.

"Wait!" I blurted without thinking. I bit my lip nervously and felt a blush creep onto my cheeks.

"Yeah?" Zack asked as he turned around in the doorway.

"Uh, well, watch it with me?" I asked dumbly. Way to go Kelsey. That was smooth.

Zack hesitated before nodding his head and sitting next to me. I looked over to him and smiled nervously. He returned my smile with an even bigger one and my breath hitched. I quickly looked away and tried to focus on the movie. I blushed redder and tried to calm down. He was only a boy. Right?

Hope you liked this chapter! I will be updating again soon. Read and review! There will be more sweetness and fluff to come, but don't worry there will be some drama in here soon...
