7. Flashback #2: The Chase Begins

I don't own Bones

Seeley Booth smiled as he walked toward his crush's house. Temperance Brennan. It took him a couple of days to find out her full name. He brought flowers and a get well card. That was the decoy. If a parent or sibling opened the door, he could just say that he brought them for Daisy, the girl who he hit with his car, by accident by the way, and whose skateboard he crushed. Since no cop cars had come to pick him up, Seeley could only assume that they haven't told on him. He did actually feel bad for the girl, he didn't mean to hit her, she just ran out onto the street, Seeley saw some kids following her and leave when she got hit, God knows why. Seeley knocked on the door and just the girl he wanted to see opened it.

"What do you want?" she snapped.

"Hello to you too. I got some flowers for you and a get well card for Daisy," Seeley said, handing Temperance the flowers and card and giving her his patented charm smile.

"Daisy's not sick. There is no need for you to give her a get well card," Temperance said.

"Well, they didn't have "I'm sorry I hit you with my car" card," Seeley smiled.

"I don't think that would be the most popular card," Temperance said, not even acknowledging the joke.

"Well, uh, did she get her new skateboard?" Seeley asked.

"Yes, she got one with a purple wheels and a purple, winged skull on the bottom," Temperance sniffed.

"Sounds cool," Seeley said, trying to find Temperance's soft side.

"It's crude," Temperance answered.

"Oh so you don't like skateboarding," Seeley said.

"No, it's boring and dangerous," Temperance said. Oh a no risk chick Seeley thought.

"Well is she alright?" Seeley asked.

"Yes, her parents grounded her for a week for doing tricks outside of the park without her helmet or elbow and knee pads," Temperance said.

"Oh well, I was wondering if you would like to get a burger sometime," Seeley asked.

"No thank you I'm a vegetarian," Temperance replied.

"Well how about ice cream?" Seeley asked.

"I'm supposed to be watching my cousins," Temperance said.

"Well, how about I watch them with you? I'm great with kids," Seeley offered with his charm smile.

"My aunt and uncle said the only person I could invite inside until they got back is my friend Angela," Temperance said. Damn this is starting to get annoying.

"Well since you haven't been here long, what if I pick you up Friday around eight and we get some ice cream and meet some more people," Seeley asked, finally getting to the point of this visit.

"No," Temperance said and she started to shut the door.

"Wait what? Hold on," Seeley said, keeping the door from shutting with his foot, "You don't want to go out?"

"No. I'm not some quick fuck so get off my property or I'll call the cops," Temperance said while she kicked his foot hard enough to get his foot out of the doorway. Seeley stood in silence before he got in his car and drove off. He couldn't believe that he was just turned down. No girl in her right mind would turn him down. Not one girl has turned him down before. Seeley pulled into his driveway and decided that he would get Temperance Brennan if it was the last thing he'd ever do.

Seeley grinned at his mirror and rubbed gel in his hair. Tonight he finally broken through Temperance's icy exterior and they were getting dinner together and getting that ice cream. It took him six tries before she said yes. He got into his car and sung as he drove to pick up his date.
