Here's the long awaited chapter 6! Sorry this one had taken me a long time, but now I've been really excited about getting to where we first see Yugi, but of course just like Meg, he'll be in a bit of trouble. So, I do not own YuGiOh, Hercules, or the songs. I'm doing this for fun. Enjoy!
Chapter 6
Trainer of Heroes
Arriving at a island surrounded by fog, Yami and Zuberi search the island full of huge statues, whole and in pieces for Bakura when they heard voices and laughter. Looking from behind a few bushes, Yami saw that the sounds were coming from three girls playing in the spring. Recognizing them as Harpy Ladies, Yami then notices another figure leaning against a dead tree, watching the three Harpy girls as they are having fun.
Looking closely at the figure, he appeared to be the same age as Yami, if not older, but he had long albino white spiky hair, brown eyes with a sharp edge to them, his arms crossed over his chest, appearing as if he is bored and possibly annoyed. Then the three girls turned toward Bakura and they all said with a flirtatious tone, "Come on Bakura, come play with us."
"No way. Why don't you three ever take a hint?" the other boy said, glancing away from their lustful gaze.
Just as they were about to add to the request, the three Harpies saw Yami and froze. At the sight of the new guest, the Harpies unfurled their wings and flew away like birds. Glancing over to Yami, the boy says with a tone that still had annoyance since the Harpies wouldn't leave him alone. "Thanks for chasing them off. I've been trying to get them to leave my island ever since they decided to move in since their parents were letting them out of the nest and find a new home on their own."
"Well, sure thing. Maybe you could help us."
"What do you need?"
"We are looking for someone named Bakura."
"You're looking at him." said the boy with his tone now being bored.
"Great. I have a request."
"What?" Bakura said as he head for a small hut built into a hill.
"I want to become a true hero."
Hearing that statement once again after so many have failed him in the past, Bakura says as he heads inside, "Sorry bud, can't help you."
"Wait a minute." Yami stops Bakura from shutting the door on him with one hand grabbing the door and the other grabbing Bakura's shoulder. "Why won't you help?"
"Simple; I am retired."
Yami is not planning on giving up easily. "Look, this is something I have to do. Didn't you have a dream, something you wanted so bad you would do anything to obtain it?
Apparently his words had struck something inside of the former thief and now trainer. Glancing back at Yami since he still had one hand on his shoulder, Bakura spoke with a much calmer tone, "Come inside, I want to show you something." After signalling Zuberi to wait outside, Yami followed Bakura inside to see many statues, pots and paintings on the walls that told something about different heroes that Bakura had trained up to the part where they had failed their trainer.
Seeing how Yami looks around at all of the different heroes, Bakura slightly smirks and says, "As you can see, all of these wimpy heroes I've trained have let me all down. Not a single one of them would go the distance. But then there was Katsuya Jonouchi. Man he was one hell of a fighter. No matter how bad things seemed for him, no matter how injured he was and even when the odds were against him, he always pulled through.
"However he was too family-oriented! His beloved little sister is used as a hostage against him and in the end, he's history!" Clearly Bakura is still furious that his one and only best student had also failed him miserably. With a sigh, Bakura went over to a shelf that had a black cloth all rolled up like a scroll. "I did have a dream once. My dream would be that I would train the greatest hero ever known."
Taking the cloth from the shelf, he unfurls it and place it on a wooden beam, where it hangs showing what appeared to be the image of a hero appearing to be made out of the stars of the night sky. "So great that the gods would create a picture of him all across the night sky like a painting on a canvas. With people cheering, saying 'That's Bakura's pal!', and then I would be free of my punishment now that I've changed."
Then he becomes down-spirited as he removes the cloth from the beam and says as he goes to lean against one of the walls, his whole being full of nothing but disappointment, "But I've come to realize that dreams are for rookies. A guy could only take so much disappointment."
With a new determination forming on his eyes with an idea that will cheer him up, Yami says as he places his hands on his arm, "I can assure you I'm different from those men, Bakura. I can prove I can go the distance. Just give me a chance and I'll show you."
At first he didn't seem convince, but since he wants to prove it, Bakura allowed him to lead him outside so he can show him what his Shadow Magic can do. Outside the hut, the first thing Yami did is use his shadow magic to make them appear as flames in the palm of his hands. Then bringing them together, the two flames became a great black and purple inferno, surprising Bakura with how huge the inferno became without hurting Yami. The last thing. Yami did with his powers is that he place on hand on a very old statue, apply pressure and then the statue crumbles into big chunks of a now ruined statue.
"Holy Jamila." Just as he is thinking about the possibilities with this guy, Bakura slaps himself hard as he remembered what he made a promise to himself. "I'm too tired to get mixed up in this shit."
Coming up with something quick to get him to help, Yami steps right in his path, "But if I don't become a true hero, I'll never be able to rejoin my parents Aknamkanon and Jamila!"
Now this is new. "Wait a sec. Aknamkanon is your father and Jamila is your mother, huh?"
"That's right."
Then Bakura had started to laugh. "No way, Aknamkanon. One of the head gods is your daddy?!" Laughing more, Bakura is just in total disbelief.
Now that is annoying and disrespectful. "I'm telling you, Bakura, it's the truth!"
"Pu-lease!" Bakura is still not convince he'll teach him. Sliding down a slope, Bakura stands among the many statues that litter his lands.
So you wanna be a hero, kid
Well, whoop-de-do
Having his fingers make circle motions beside his head, silently telling Yami that he is crazy for asking him this.
I have been around the block before
With blockheads just like you
Each and every one a disappointment
Pain for which there ain't no ointment
So much for excuse's
Though a kid of 'Gods' is
Then Bakura stands on top of a hill overlooking the entire island and faces Yami and Zuberi with him about to cross his arms over his chest with the two noticing the sky behind him become dark. That must be a warning from his father that if Bakura says the wrong thing he'll get a nasty zap.
Asking me to jump into the fray
My answer is this
Before Bakura could decline Yami of his request, a bolt of lightning appeared out of no where and struck the trainer, making his white hair stick out from every direction thanks to the electricity. "Okay, fine."
With Yami excited and Aknamkanon folding his arms with a smug look on his face as he and the dark clouds vanish from the island, Yami says as he helps to get his hair back to normal, "You mean you'll do it, then?"
"You win."
"So when can we start?"
Giving him the 'give me a moment' sign, Bakura goes over to a few bushes and pushes the brush aside, revealing a great chest and pulling it out.
I've given up hope
that someone would come along
With Yami's help, they open the chest to reveal the weapons that Bakura uses to train new heroes.
A fella who'd ring the bell for once
Not the gong
Taking out one old trophie, Bakura dusts it off to reveal it was a trophie for last place in a race one of his trainees earned before his demise.
The kind you wins trophies
Won't settle for low fees
At least semipro fees
But, no, I get the green thumb
Spending one whole day cleaning the old training grounds, Yami picks up any debris while Zuberi burns a few vines that cover the pillars and Bakura dusts off the old equipment that have been left out in the open.
I've been out to pasture, pal
My ambition gone
Content to spend lazy days
and to mow my lawn
Letting out a few goats, Bakura lets them eat all of the tall grass and weeds before having the training field completely set up to start training Yami.
But you need an advisor
A thief, but wiser
Teaching Yami how to use the bow and arrow, the teen had difficulties keeping the arrow set with Bakura helping him keep it straight, advising him to keep both eyes open.
A good merchandiser and...Whoa
When Yami release the arrow, it almost took one of Bakura's hands with it, causing his stomach to drop as they watch the arrow go through bushes until it hit the target.
There goes my ulcer
I'm down to one last hope
and I hope it's you
Though, kid, you're not exactly
a dream come true
After checking to see if he has developed any muscle, the two are disappointed and Bakura has Yami do a few hard push ups. Next day, Bakura is having Yami balance on top of a tightrope while balancing three books on top of his head.
I trained enough turkeys
Who never came through
You're my last hope
So you'll have to do
However, Yami had lost his balance, landing right on top of Bakura with two of the books landing around him and the third on Yami's face. Lifting the book to see Bakura glaring up at him, Yami gives him an appologitic expression, saying while shrugging, "Sorry."
Later in the week, Bakura had set up a challenge for Yami with a puppet set up as if someone is in trouble as a raging fire surrounds the puppet. "Rule number six; when rescuing someone, always handle with care." Bakura advises before blowing a whistle, signaling Yami to start.
For the most part he did well, but as he crosses the fallen tree to get to the other side of the cliff, the log gives way and Yami slips. But luckily he had grabbed a piece of the cliff that was sticking out of the side of the cliff. Letting out a sigh of relief that he managed to save both himself and the victim from falling into the river, Yami whistles for Zuberi to help him out of the crevise.
Next day, deciding to stay away from cliffs and rivers, Bakura has a few targets set up and have given Yami a few knives to try more target practice. "Ok, rule number 95; concentrate!"
Given the signal to throw the daggers, not only did Yami miss all of the targets, but he had accidently pinned Bakura to the tree behind him. "Here's rule number 96; aim!"
It's now winter. Bakura has another puppet victim set out, only this time it' hanging by a hang man's noose at the tip of cliff.
Demigods have faced the odds
And ended up a mockery
Don't believe the stories
That you read on all the crockery
Given the signal, Yami swings off another cliff with the other long rope and successfully snatches the victim. Seeing a tall amount of sharp ice, Yami holds the puppet closer to keep it from hitting the ice and shattering in the freezing climate.
Spring time in the new year. Bakura is starting to see some progress with Yami. The next thing he had set up are two rows of moving targets with Zuberi working the levers that allow the targets to move, making it difficult to hit.
To be a true hero, pal, is a dying art
Like painting a masterpiece
Throwing the daggers, saving one, Yami again miss the targets. Looking at the one he had saved, Yami just looks away as he throws it straight after activating some of his shadow magic so the blade is covered with a purple flame and then they heard the thud they have been waiting for when they see that the dagger hit a perfect bull's eye with it going up in stunning purple flames.
It's a work of heart
Seeing how well he has come a long way and making great progress, Bakura gives Yami a good pat on the back while giving him the first smile he's ever had in a long time since the last not-so-great hero he last trained.
It takes more than sinew
Comes down to what's in you
By the beginning of summer, Yami has complete every training session Bakura has thrown at him since they started, developing a few muscles thanks to the training. Seeing how much Yami has grown, Bakura could only grin that everything is almost complete as he finish setting up one more obstacle course.
You have to continue to grow
With everything set and Yami poised to take on the course, he watches as everything moves, realizing that this is a tuff one as the final test.
I'm down to one last shot
And my last high note
Before that blasted Duat
gets my goat
With the signal given, Yami runs through the course, all the while using his shadow powers to give him a boost or to shield himself against the swinging axes, chomping dragon trap, smashing marble fist on a marble pillar, jumping and biting crocadiles, and lastly a fire ring where the third and last puppet is hanging in the very center.
My dreams are on you, pal
Go make them come true
Climb that uphill slope
Keep pushing that envelope
Running through the obstacles, Yami swiftly dodges the swinging awes, using some shadow magic at the soles of his feet that allowed him to jump over the dragon trap, smashing the smashing marble fist with some extra power from his powers, holding his hands out just as the crocs jump out of the water to attack him but end up back in the water thanks to Yami pushing them back, and then leaping through the fire ring to grab the puppet and land right in the middle of a small circle field, where he activated the mechanism that had targets appear from behind the rock walls. Taking out his sword and placing some of his shadow magic into the blade so it bent just enough to look like a boomerang, Yami throws his weapon so it took off the heads of the targets before letting the sword return right back into his hand and be back as a sword.
You're my last hope
And, pal, it's up to you
His training finally complete, he shares a high five with Bakura after sheathing his sword. Setting the puppet down, Yami just can't contain his excitement. "At this rate, I'll be entering the gates to the Palace in the Heavens in no time."
"Now, take it easy there, champ." Bakura says as he starts to think what he can start doing to build up his reputation as a hero.
"I'm ready to get off this island and start becoming a hero." Yami replies as Zuberi lays his head on his friend's shoulder with his wings circling him.
"Well, since I see you're set after all of that training, then it's time to pack up. For we are going to Memphis!" Bakura says as he thought about the one place they should start at. This now has the hero and his Firewing very excited that they will finally start doing heroic stuff outside the island.
