He financed the research and project of The Lab, he find it fascinating to see these kids developing their gifts. He wanted to help them and for them to have a place that they could call their safe haven, and for people who cannot understand their gift, shield these gifted ones from them who thinks it is a curse. It was only later on he realized that the scientists have different motive in helping these kids. And he wasn't going to let these scientists use these kids for something else other than putting their gifts to good use.
