It's Just A Hat?

"So what do you think we'll have to do, Freddie?" George asked as they dragged their trunks down the train looking for the carriage Charlie was in since he'd said they could sit with him on the journey.

"No clue," Fred replied, turning around to give George a shrug. "They must change it every year—there's no way Percy got into Gryffindor if it was the same task as Charlie's."

George laughed. "Merlin, no. He's terrified of anything larger than an owl."

"And anything smaller. Remember that time we charmed Ron's teddy into a Spider? Percy was almost as scared as Ron was," Fred said, joining his brother's laughter just as they reached Charlie's compartment.

"Merlin, Charlie," George said, panting slightly from laughing so much, "why do you have to sit so far down the train?"

"It's quieter for longer down here," Charlie replied.

"I can see why," Fred said.

"The walk down the train just isn't worth it," George added.

"You don't have to sit with me," Charlie said with a smile, "you can always go and find a compartment further up the train."

"And walk all that way again?" Fred asked with a laugh.

"You must be joking!" George joined in.

The pair dragged their trunks into the compartment and stored them in the overhead racks before sitting down.

"So, how are you feeling about getting sorted?" Charlie asked once they were settled. "Ready for your tests?"

A girl appeared at the compartment door and began trying to hoist her trunk into the overhead racks, struggling with it so much she almost dropped it on Fred's head.

"Merlin, Tonks," Charlie said, standing up to help her with the trunk. "I swear this thing gets heavier every time."

"Probably," she said with a shrug as they finally got the trunk where it belonged.

Charlie returned to his seat, the girl following him.

"Fred, George, this is Tonks. Tonks, Fred and George," Charlie said, introducing them.

"Wotcher," Tonks said, holding her hand out to shake theirs. "I hope you don't plan on me telling you apart because you two are identical. It's scary how much you look alike."

Fred shook her hand with George following suit.

"I was just asking them how they feel about being sorted," Charlie explained. "Remember ours when Professor Grubbly-Plank brought the Hippogriff in?"

Tonks laughed. "Oh yeah! I just fed it. I guess that's why I'm in Hufflepuff and not Gryffindor."

The train set off and Fred leaned back, looking out of the window wondering what on earth the Hogwarts would have in store for them.

Fred let out a relieved chuckle after the first student was sorted. All they had to do was put a hat on and be told their house. No aptitude tests, magical creatures, or anything even remotely weird like their brothers had told them.

"It's just a hat? I'm going to kill Charlie," Fred muttered under his breath to George who was looking just as relieved as Fred felt.

He located Charlie sat at the Gryffindor table with the rest of his family and glared, making Charlie erupt into laughter.

"Don't bother," George said, a mischievous smile crossing his face. "This just means we have plenty of reasons to prank him this year."

Fred laughed. "This damn hat better put us in Gryffindor now!"

And it did. Within seconds of the hat touching Fred's head it shouted out, "GRYFFINDOR!" and the same happened with George just after. He grinned at his twin as they took their seats at the table. This was going to be an interesting year.
