Chapter 7- Letting go
Allie looks around her new environment, she then looks up at her dad "I don't wanna go." Danny bends down to her level "You have to go sweetie, you'll have a great time. I know you will and you'll make some friends."
Allie wraps her tiny self around Danny's legs "do you promise to pick me up?" Danny lifts her up and kisses her forehead "Yes, I'll be right here in a few hours, I have an idea why don't you draw me some lovely pictures."
Allie nods "I can do that, love you daddy." Danny smiles "I love you too Allie, be good okay." Allie nods, a young lady walks over "Hello I'm Miss. Taylor, you must be Allie." Allie nods, the teacher extends her hand to Allie "We're going to do some painting if you want to join us." Allie smiles "yes please." Allie takes her teachers hand and walks over to the other children.
Danny slips out of the building and walks towards his car; he looks at his watch and starts counting down the minutes until he has to pick Allie back up from preschool. The hardest thing he ever had to do was let Allie go and this was one adventure that Danny had to take a back seat for because this adventure was all Allie's now.
Jackie watches her partner as he checks his watch for the millionth time in the last 5 minutes "Somewhere you gotta be Reagan." Danny looks up at her "Allie's first day at preschool, I promised I'd pick her up. Linda got called into work this morning." Jackie smiles at him "Did you cry?" He shakes his head "No and neither did Allie, yes she got upset and claimed she didn't want to go but the teacher came over said they were about to paint and she lit up like a Christmas tree."
Jackie nods "it will be good for her to be around people her own age plus she won't be the only girl at the preschool. She's a great kid Danny; she'll make loads of friends."
Today Danny was grateful for paperwork, he didn't want to be chasing down a criminal or at a crime scene and have to leave just so he could get Allie from preschool. Jackie watches as once again Danny checks his watch and smiles "excuse me partner, I got a promise I need to keep." Jackie watches as Danny proudly leaves the precinct to collect Allie from preschool.
Danny arrives at Allie's preschool, he notices Linda waiting for him "Hey babe you made it." Linda nods "yeah my shift finished early, how was this morning?" Danny smiles "She made a little fuss but was fine and no tears." Linda smiles and nods "what about you? Did you cry?"
They walk inside the preschool and notice Allie has her back to them happily painting; Linda bends down behind her "that is a very pretty rainbow." Allie turns around "Mommy." Linda picks her up "hey baby, I'm sorry about this morning but daddy tells me you didn't cry such a big girl." Allie nods "I didn't cry and I did loads of pictures, I made some friends too."
Linda collected Allie's things while Allie showed Danny her pictures. Danny kisses her forehead "so proud of you sweetie, do you want to come here again?" Allie nods "yes please daddy."
Danny heads back to the precinct while Linda and Allie make their way home. Allie was telling Linda all about her amazing day and all about her friends. Linda and Allie were deciding where to put up Allie's amazing art work when the front door opened and in walked tired Sean and Jack.
Linda smiles "hey boys, did you have a good day?" they both nod and lay on the couch, Linda shakes her head "go get out of your uniform first please and then you can ask Allie how her day went." The boys look at their baby sister who was happily watching cartoons and they remembered today had been her first day at preschool.
The boys ran down the stairs a few minutes later in normal clothes, Jack sits next to his baby sister "How did it go Allie?" Sean takes a sip of his drink "did you cry?" Allie shakes her head "no tears, it was fun and I painted some pictures and made some friends."
Linda hands them all a snack "She was a brave girl, homework boys before cartoons. Allie come here and help me make dinner baby." Allie nods and helps Linda make dinner, Sean notices a new painting on the fridge "Is that Allie's new painting mom?" Linda nods "yeah, she has a few more in her room that she did." Jack smiles at his sister "I like it Allie, can you do me one please?" Allie nods "okay Jack." Sean looks at his siblings "no fair if Jack gets one then I want one too, pleaseee Allie." Allie nods again and goes back to helping Linda.
Linda happily looks around the table and listens to the boys each talking about their school day and what they had learnt. Allie was happily eating her dinner and getting the sauce everywhere except her mouth. Danny was talking to the boys about plans they would make at the weekend with Uncle Jamie.
Danny looks over at his wife "so what is the next step in Allie's life that we have to do next." Linda looks over at him "I think normal school first." She waits for Danny to take a sip of his water "oh yeah then boys." Linda smirks as Danny spits out his water, the kids all laugh "Boys?" Linda nods "yeah, normal school then it will be boys."
Danny looks over at Allie who was happily chatting to Sean and Jack about random things; Danny runs his hand over his face "No boys." Linda laughs "Danny, you know it's going to happen one day, I am just preparing you for that day."
Allie looks up at her parents and sweetly smiles at Danny, he smiles back at her "No boys Allie." Allie nods "okay daddy." Linda places her hand on top of Danny's "One step at a time, today we got over the preschool step then it will be normal school then a few years after that it will be high school then maybe it will be boys or it will be the college step. Jack and Sean haven't gotten to the girl step yet Danny, it will all be alright."
