After the team had left Jenny and Lily packed up for the night. Lily watched her aunt as she got everything organized for their departure from NCIS. She leaned casually against Jenny's desk as Jenny scurried around the room. "So where do you live?" Lily asked examining a photo of her grandfather on Jenny's desk. He was in uniform.
"Grandpa's old brownstone in Georgetown." She said collecting her final things and now ready to leave. They walked to the elevator side by side.
"Where you grew up?" Lily asks curiously as she pushed the down button. While her college class had left for the day at five Lily stayed behind and spent the rest of the day with her aunt.
"Yeah, so where are you living? Dorms? Apartment?" Jenny asked turning to Lily as the metal doors closed around them.
"Me and my friend share an apartment near school." Lily explained and Jenny nodded as they got off the elevator.
"So what are you studying?"
"Criminology, what coincidence." Lily said absentmindedly. Jenny chuckled as they walked to the parking lot.
"You going home or do you have big plans for the weekend?" Jenny asked smiling as she got out her keys. Lily smiled warmly.
"If by big plans you mean writing a huge and unnecessary report about my trip to NCIS then yes."
"That sounds fun." Jenny said sarcastically.
"I know. I wish I had something fun to do but everybody seems to be busy." Lily said biting her lip as her aunt unlocked her car and set her things in the passenger side. "Actually I was wondering if I could spend the weekend with you." Lily asked hesitantly as Jenny's head shot up in her direction then a smiled formed on her tired face.
"Of course sweetheart you can spend the weekend! You know if you ever need anything I'm here." Jenny said as she wrapped Lily in a hug. Lily smiled then pulled away.
"Thanks. I'll get some things from my apartment then I'll meet you at your house." Lily said, gave her aunt a kiss on the cheek and walked to her car. Jenny watched her go for a moment, smiled to herself then got in the car.
Half an hour later Jenny heard her door open. She had left if unlocked for Lily. "Aunt Jenny!" Lily yelled as Jenny heard the thumping of a bag in the entryway. Jenny took off her reading glasses and left her study. Lily spotted her and smiled. "Hey! You look mighty casual." She remarked as she blew a strand of red hair out of her eyes. Jenny raised her eyebrows and looked Lily over. She was wearing sweatpants and a university tee shirt with a pair of Adidas slides.
"Well what did you expect? For me to be all dressed up?" Jenny asked smiling. Lily rolled her eyes.
"Well no but… I don't know." She said and took off her shoes. Jenny was wearing a pair of plaid pants you'd wear to bed and a black tee shirt. Jenny laughed and motioned for Lily to follow her. She did and they went into the study where Jenny poured herself a glass of bourbon. "Can I have some?" Lily asked looking at the amber liquid in the crystal tumbler. Jenny raised an eyebrow.
"How old are you?" She asked suspiciously and Lily rolled her eyes again.
"Twenty-one Jenny I am allowed to drink."
"Okay fine but I don't know how you'll like bourbon. Have you drank anything before?" Jenny asked pouring her a small amount. Lily smirked.
"Yes." Lily answered confidently as she mentally counted off the various drinks she's had.
"Do I want to know?" Jenny asked handing the bourbon to her.
"No." Lily said seriously and cringed at the memory. She put the glass to her lips as Jenny watched curiously. She took a sip and her face scrunched up in disgust. She barely swallowed it as she started coughing. Jenny chuckled. "Oh my God, how do you drink this paint stripper?" Lily asked still cringing at the aftertaste. She held the tumbler out for Jenny to take back and she did pouring the extra bourbon back into her glass.
"It's an acquired taste." She said before taking a sip without even flinching.
"Is black disgusting coffee an acquired taste too because I don't have either." Lily exclaimed then muttered something about scraping her tongue. "How did you acquire it?" Lily asked curiously as she sat down in one of the arm chairs in the study. Jenny sat down across from her reliving the memory before looking at Lily.
"It was a long time ago sweetheart. You were very little." Jenny said shaking her head and Lily curled herself into the arm chair as if settling in for a bed time story and Jenny fought the urge to roll her eyes. "Fine." She said sighing. "I was a Probie…" She started but couldn't finish as Lily had started laughing. "What?!" Jenny exclaimed and Lily caught her breath before speaking.
"What the hell is a Probie?!" She asked chuckling and Jenny furrowed her brow.
"Hey! Watch your language missy!" Jenny reprimanded but then realized Lily wasn't five anymore and sighed as her face softened. Lily accepted her silent apology. "It's just a beginner in the law enforcement business." She explained shaking her head and Lily nodded, interested.
"So back to the story." She urged and Jenny sighed before telling it to her niece.
"It was a long case and I was tired…" She began leaving out the part that…
It was her first kill. She hadn't wanted to pull the trigger it had just happened. Jenny had been backed into a corner and forced to shoot, she had no choice, at least that was what Gibbs had kept telling her along with Burley and Decker but she wasn't listening. So after some deep thought she found herself walking down the steps of Gibbs's basement. He must have been expecting her because he had two glasses of bourbon out and ready. She had scoffed and almost threw her shoe at him. "Didn't have to be smug about it!" She demanded grabbing the glass angrily. He had just smirked and set down his sander before picking up his glass and looked at her, waiting for her to talk first because she was the one who had come down here in the first place. She had never drank bourbon before but had heard about it. It didn't sound like something she would ever want to try but there she was staring down into the amber liquid just so she wouldn't have to look at her boss, the one that had continuously made her knees go weak with just one look. When alcohol was added to the mix she didn't know what would happen but she did know that she just wanted to forget this whole day which had turned sour the second she woke up but she hadn't cried yet and she wasn't planning on it, then again the night was still young.
"You gonna drink that?" She heard him ask and she wondered how long she had been staring into the glass.
"I don't like bourbon." She lied and he could tell because her right eye twitched.
"Haven't even tried it yet." He said cocking his head at her and she rolled her eyes. Figuring that she had nothing to lose and not being able to remember the day seemed like a good idea she put the glass to her lips and drank the entire thing. He stared at her with raised eyebrows as she bit back the bitter sting and blinked rapidly before holding out her glass.
"Pour me another cowboy."
"Are you telling me that you were Gibbs's Probie?" Lily asked dumbfounded and Jenny being self-conscious about even sharing that story in the first place was a little peeved.
"That was the only thing you got out of that story?!" Jenny demanded and Lily threw her hands up in surrender.
"Sorry." She laughed, shaking her head. "It's just that… Gibbs…. You're his boss." She chuckled and Jenny rolled her eyes.
"So what! He liked being on the bottom anyway!" She practically yelled in frustration and Lily's mouth fell open in shock as she laughed.
"Auntie Jenny," She gasped. "Was that a sexual innuendo I just caught there?" Lily asked slyly and immediately catching her mistake Jenny flushed a deep shade of red and glared at her niece with the fury of hell behind her but Lily seemed to be on a roll. "So he was your boss and your boyfriend, introduced you to your drink of choice and now you're his boss." She said trying to get everything straight. Jenny wouldn't have used the word boyfriend because their relationship was mainly based on sex but she would let Lily come to her own conclusions as she continued to try and sort out everything she had just heard. "And you're not together anymore?" Lily asked looking at her aunt curiously who shook her head. "Why not? What happened?" Lily demanded with her eyebrows furrowed, obviously very into this long buried part of her aunts past. Jenny sighed.
"A story for another time my dear." Jenny said quoting Ducky as she got up and walked into the kitchen. She heard Lily running up behind her.
"Yeah, never! Come on Aunt Jen please?" She begged and Jenny shook her head.
"Begging is not very lady like Lily." Jenny said properly as she got out some crackers from the pantry and cheese from the fridge refusing to look at her niece who had that damn sly grin plastered on her face.
"I bet you begged for Gibbs to…" Jenny whipped around and quickly covered Lily's mouth with her hand angrily.
"Hey!" She said in a clipped tone. "That's enough young lady." She said sternly before letting the college student go.
"I'm gonna put my stuff in the guest room." Lily said happily and as she walked away Jenny could hear her moaning, rather loudly, a certain silver haired fox's name she was trying not to think about right now and Jenny groaned before resting her head against the cabinets in exasperation.
