Author's Note!

Welcome to chapter seven! This is the story of a boy with no memory, waking up in Hogwarts at the time of the Marauders! Join the adventure as he discovers who he is, whilst having fun in school, making new friends, and avoiding the darkness of the outside world!

I've decided to write this story as well as my other two, just because it came into my mind and I wanted to write it as soon as I could! It'll be a long story, probably, so I ask you be patient for new updates, maybe read my other two whilst you wait?

If you want, you can perhaps leave a review of what you think, maybe follow or favourite the story? Give me some sort of inspiration?

Disclaimer: I do not own anything in this story. J.K Rowling owns all of the characters, places and other thingys in this story, unless you notice something you don't recognise. If so, that is mine.

Enjoy!

Hey guys, it's only a short chapter as I haven't updated in months and just wanted to get this back out there. The next chapter will be longer, I promise!

It was Friday, the day everyone loved. Even better, we were told this morning that our final afternoon lesson had been cancelled, so it was just Transfiguration and Potions in the morning!

James was still solemn about Lily ignoring him, sitting with his head resting on his knuckles, talking quietly to Remus. I was also sitting quietly, listening to McGonagall's lecture of turning animate objects into inanimate objects. The girls were involved in some sort of gossip, passing notes to each other speedily. In fact, the whole room seemed to either be in their own world or passing notes. It was warm, no one really having the energy to do anything.

I felt a note slip under my hand, Summer looking at me with her pretty eyes. I found a full conversation written down, the girls talking about me. Summer pointed to the bottom line, but I felt like reading it all.

M: So what, he's now a Potter? He looks enough like the bloke to pass as a brother, I got over it quickly enough so you should be able to.

L: It just seems like a quick decision, I don't get it.

S: It doesn't bother me, I just don't get why he couldn't tell us about it.

M: Ask him, for Merlin's sake! A whole week of stressed relationships between the guys and us because of one tiny secret.

I looked up at Marlene, who was telling Summer how she should have used a different piece of paper. I sighed and read on.

S: A whole day, though. A simple, 'we're going out for the day, see you later' would have worked.

M: A-S-K H-I-M.

There were some scribbles underneath this, where I guess I was to write down my excuses.

J: I have nothing to explain, girls. I left for the day, didn't know about James' cunning plan to invite me into the family, and then we came home. It's not big enough news that I have to explain it to you all. You don't have guardianship over me, getting this frustrated and angry isn't worth a sickle!

I put my quill down and they snatched the note away immediately, taking turns to read it. Marlene nodded slightly, but Summer and Lily both shook their heads, Summer writing a reply, then passing it to Lily so she could add a bit.

S: As soon as you became a Gryffindor, you became part of the family. Us girls don't go to the bathroom without telling each other.

L: And it is big enough news, you became a Potter! That's bigger news than a change of Minister of Magic.

I smiled, knowing that one day she could just as easily become a Potter. McGonagall was still talking, Sirius attracting enough attention so her eyes were diverted.

J: That may be so, Summer, but you tell the girls, not guys. The guys knew what was happening. And maybe, Lily, but I wasn't completely in the know about that part.

There was a brief change of writers, then the note came back to me.

S: But if I were leaving, I'd tell you- I mean, the guys. All of you! Nobody leaves the grounds!

I rolled my eyes.

J: You know you're talking to the Marauders, right? As far as I'm aware they leave the grounds at least twice a week!

She frowned at me, Marlene snatching the parchment away and writing a final sentence, Lily rapidly taking notes after missing a few parts of McGonagall's speech.

M: Put it in the past, guys. Jamie now knows to tell us, and we know what happened so no harm done.

I sighed, throwing the parchment to the middle of the table. I couldn't believe how protective they were getting! I couldn't leave this place without 'informing' them? Screw that.

McGonagall wrapped up the lecture, everyone packing their things away, Pete walking over to me as we waited for the other guys. I was quick to move away from the girls, rather annoyed with them. I signaled for the others to catch up, walking ahead with Pete.

'Everything okay?' he asked me, putting some things in his bag hurriedly.

I looked at him, pushing open a door and walking down the corridor that led to outside. 'I guess,' I admitted, 'just a little frustrated.'

'We figured,' James announced behind me, he and Sirius coming to a stop after jogging to catch up. 'You couldn't get out of that room quickly enough.'

'What did you guys talk about?' Sirius questioned, his Adam's apple bobbing in his throat.

We stepped in the open air, walking towards a bench that we could all squeeze onto. Compared to the classroom it was cold, a breeze in the air that I hadn't felt yet this season. Winter was coming.

'They informed me,' I said, 'that I need to tell them where I am going and when I am leaving. In fact, Marlene presumes that I have to tell them, and that I agree with her. I think she feels I need to tell them how many times I go to the bathroom and how many times I shake.'

James chuckled, Sirius smiling as he shifted from the bench and onto the ground, sitting his backpack behind his head so he could lay down.

'It wasn't any of their business,' James agreed, 'we left for the day to deal with private business and we dealt with it. We informed them afterwards, no big deal.'

'Have they always been like this?' I questioned for the first time.

James paused, 'No, actually. This year is the first.'

I waved my hand. 'Can we change the topic?' I asked, 'we've been over this twenty times the past week and it's getting old. Where's Remus?'

'Some sort of prefect thing,' James spoke.

I laughed, looking at him with a raised eyebrow. 'Shouldn't you know about that, considering you're Head Boy? Or is that just a title, nowadays? What do you do again?'

He pushed me against Peter, running his hand through his hair. 'It's a meeting for prefects, with Dumbledore. I didn't go because I'm not a prefect.'

'What he's trying to say,' Sirius cut in, 'is that he's avoiding his dear girlfriend.'

'So that's what they are now?' I asked him with a grin, James frowning angrily.

Sirius rolled his eyes, punching him on the shoulder. 'We know, we know,' he said, 'she's the love of your life and she's ignoring you... again.'

'It's just that -' James started, before we interrupted him.

'We still know,' I reminded him. 'You're as bad as the girls, you've talked about her as much as they talked about our trip.'

'But she -'

'We know!' Sirius shouted at the top of his lungs. 'Damn it, James, we know!

We sat peacefully, staring at the glistening lake, James sulking behind us and Sirius making faces to me in front of him.

Pete looked at me and then at his watch, scratching his pointy chin. 'What time is our next class?'

I looked at his watch, then looking around at the completely empty grounds around us, a sudden realisation coming over me.

'Dammit,' I muttered, repeating Sirius' words.

'Late again, Mr Potter?' Slughorn tutted, waving his hand in forgiveness before we could apologise. Remus and Lily walked in just as we did. 'Not to worry, not to worry. As Head Boy, though, you really should be setting an example.'

'Of course, professor,' James smiled, the rest of the class murmuring as they began brewing a potion of some sort.

Lily walked over to James before we could even sit down, Remus quickly shifting nearer to Sirius and I.

'You weren't at the meeting, again,' Lily quietly shouted so Slughorn couldn't hear her.

He raised a brow, looking deep into her eyes. 'So now you're talking to me?'

She looked as though she was about to snap, but something came over her, her eyes almost giving up. 'I can't be bothered today,' she murmured, leaving us to sit beside Summer.

Sirius and I looked at James, Remus shaking his head as he started chopping some ingredients. 'What?' he asked. We shrugged, leaving him to work with Remus.

I was sat beside Sirius, one of two members of our group who could actually brew anything brilliant. Of course, this was NEWT year so James and Peter did have some talent with potion brewing, but nothing compared to Sirius or Remus, and in extension to them absolutely nothing compared to Lily or Snape, as much as I hated to see him back in the class. I was only accepted on the basis that I was new and no one actually knew how crap I was at brewing, but luckily, choosing to sit next to Sirius, I had been managing to scrape my way through.

We were asked to brew a potion that would be our project through the first half of the year. Luckily, as I had arrived just on time, I managed to team with Sirius. We picked a rather difficult potion named the Polyjuice Potion. Sirius claimed that he made the thing a hundred times before and it was as easy as playing Quidditch, but unfortunately I hadn't yet played Quidditch so my helpfulness was rather limited.

Still, we pulled through the lessons, with a minimal amount of pranks and jokes. Sirius decided that after causing Remus' and James' potion to explode the previous week, his fun was over. After all, it was NEWT year.

I was talking silently to Sirius as I noticed red hair moving towards us, Lily handing me a note. 'I forgot, this is for you.'

I nodded in thanks, looking at James as she walked away, his eyes following her. Opening it, I saw Marlene's name scribbled at the top. She wasn't taking potions so she must have gave Lily the note beforehand.

M: The only way we are going to clear the air of our groups is most definitely with a challenge. I have decided upon a brilliant one, and therefore you shall meet me (with the rest of your Marauders) in the common room at midnight. See you then!

I sighed, wiping my forehead, passing the note to Sirius so he could read, then handing it to James.

'We might as well,' Sirius shrugged, 'personally, I'm done with not speaking to them. It was a petty argument that lasted a week. It's about time we moved on.'

James nodded beside me, desperate at the chance to talk to Lily without her cursing him again.

'Fair enough,' I murmured, taking the note back and writing a simple 'yes' beneath Marlene's request, throwing it back over to Lily, who caught it quite easily.

Midnight arrived sooner than I expected. The day went smoothly. Potions passed, and the rest of us decided to retire to the dorm so I could practice my animagus transformation. I had read the entire collection of notes and books that the guys had in their collection within a week, desperate to join them, especially as Remus' next transformation was less than two weeks away.

'You'll get it soon enough,' Remus had smiled encouragingly. Sirius was sulking as Remus had apparently given the guys nothing but a bad time when they were practicing, trying to put them off the idea completely, whereas with me he seemed encouraging.

'It's because I didn't want you to put yourselves at risk,' Remus explained, 'but nothing bad has happened to you, and if you guys could do it there isn't a doubt in my mind that Jamie can.'

However, nothing happened and I remained human.

'It took us five years, it may take you the same,' James spoke, Peter nodding as he ate a chocolate bar.

I wasn't going to have that, though. I kept going through to midnight, until James pushed my tired body towards the door, throwing me a jumper.

'Lets go, pretty boy,' he grinned.

I looked at the clock to see that we were a few minutes late, yet none of us were tired. One thing I had learned about being a 'Marauder' was that there was a strict rule of late nights and early mornings. Some days I hated it, but I never seemed to be tired, just annoyed about being woken up.

I quickly put my jumper on, waiting for Sirius to follow before I shut the door while the others went ahead.

'You would have thought with schedules like yours that you would actually be on time for things,' I whispered to Sirius as he picked up a change of shirt.

He growled at me like the dog he was, running a hand across his hair to straighten it slightly. I grinned, holding the door out silently.

He was a nightmare. He rushed about to find his favourite aftershave, only to realise he hated the shirt he was wearing. He then picked one out of my chest, putting it on and standing in front of the mirror again to check every strand of hair. By the time he was done with that another five minutes had passed, myself now sitting on the bed.

When he had finished he nodded to me to me to tell me to hurry up, opening the door for me. I punched him in the arm, quickly and quietly walked to the common room, the group sitting in front of the fire.

'You took your time,' James said, looking at Sirius.

'I wonder what you were doing,' Marlene grinned cheekily.

I rolled my eyes, but Sirius spoke first. 'We all know five minutes is too short for me.'

A small, awkward chuckle ran through the group, all the girls and all of us here.

'Some might say differently,' Lucy smiled, the only one to have experience with him.

A real chuckle ran across the room, Marlene hushing everyone.

'Remember,' she said, 'it is after hours so we can't get caught.'

I nodded, first holding up my hand so I could say something. 'Can we just clear the air quickly?'

She nodded, allowing me to continue. 'Firstly, we left for the day. That neither concerns you nor do we need to apologise.' I could see they were about to object but I hushed them again, anger flaring in Lily's eyes especially, her temper getting the better of her. 'However, now that we have witnessed how annoyed you were, we will now tell you when we leave.'

There was a reluctant nod of agreement. 'Secondly, Lily, did you enjoy your date with James?'

That took her by surprise, looking at him with an aggravated glare. 'I'm annoyed with him, reverting back to his immature self immediately afterwards.'

'But did you enjoy it?'

She sighed and nodded, looking a little softer. 'I'm still annoyed.'

Sirius intervened, waking from his half doze, 'Well then please talk with him! If you're going to go on more dates with him you need to get used to his personality even a little bit! He's being driving us mad for the past week!'

'The feeling is mutual,' Mary whispered, receiving yet another glare from Lily.

'Either way, that's that,' I finished. 'Any other arguments or complaints before Marlene loses another challenge?'

Everyone shook their heads, the half moon softly lighting Summer's pretty eyes. How they caught my attention rather than anyone else's surprised me. I could tell she was tired. She definitely didn't like these late nights.

'Right,' Marlene grinned, clapping her hands boyishly. 'This is a good one.' She threw two galleons to me, myself handing them to Remus to keep them for me.

Mary sighed, sitting next to Remus and Lucy. 'Really, it actually is. She's been planning it for a week.'

I smiled, allowing Marlene to continue, crossing my arms, noticing we were the only ones standing up.

'Right, so the mission is to steal an item. Not just any item, one from McGonagall's office.'

Even the guys looked half interested with this plan, smiling with anticipation.

'I got a flashing quill confiscated by her yesterday, so the plan is to run there without being noticed and bring it back. The first person to retrieve it wins!'

I was genuinely surprised. Her last challenges had been very simple and rather boring, but this one was incredibly interesting.

'What are the rules?' James asked on my behalf.

She smiled, pulling out a piece of parchment. 'Number one, we must go alone. Number two, only alohomora and lumos are allowed. That's it.'

I nodded, pulling my wand from my pocket and lighting it with the spell. 'So it's a foot race there and back?' I had visited McGonagall's office a few days previously, it's location almost fresh in my mind.

She nodded, also lighting her wand. 'I'm going to win this one, Smith - I mean, Potter.'

'The forfeit?' Sirius questioned, Peter now fully asleep in his chair, not surprisingly. He could sleep through a thunderstorm.

Marlene smiled, 'Obviously, I will give Jamie some money if he wins, as per usual. If he loses, he will be entering the Great Lake naked.'

Remus shrugged, 'Seems a little one sided.'

I smiled, looking at Marlene. ' Fine, same forfeit for each of us,' she agreed.

I nodded, looking at James for the go-ahead. He grinned, the girls also nodding for a start.

'What will these guys be doing while we wait?' I asked, looking at the girl's (and Peter's) sleepy faces.

'Waiting and judging,' Marlene informed me, the girls nodding.

'Great, let's get this done then, shall we?'

I walked towards the portrait, the light dimming as we approached. The moon provided very little light and I was certain that no candles would be in any of the halls outside. My wand was still alight beside me, murmuring softly to itself. Marlene stood next to me, not actually beginning the challenge in an orderly fashion. She pushed the portrait open, the guys behind me smiling encouragingly, and then sprinted ahead. I ran to follow, hopping down the stairs and leaving the portrait to complain to itself.

Marlene was actually really fast, her legs carrying her down two sets of stairs and then into a corridor to the left. I tried to keep up but lost my way in the dark, other portraits awakening in my presence. I quickly entered the corridor, seeing a light flash enter a room halfway down, then turning off before the door shut. I decided to do the same, my wand going out as I entered the room. However, Marlene wasn't the one inside. Two people were standing in a corner, not yet noticing my company. I quickly moved behind a long curtain, the darkness covering my feet and masking my body. I could have left but I felt too interested in finding out what they were doing. Marlene's challenge could wait.

Their whispering suddenly increased in volume, my breath falling short and quieting.

'Did you hear that?' one of them spoke, a deep and husky voice. I couldn't see them as the curtain clouded my view, but their voices were clear.

'No, don't worry,' the other replied, a much softer tone.

'We should check, we need to be careful.'

A loud sigh ran through the room. 'If you aren't up for it then I'm leaving.'

'No!' the guy quickly protested. 'I can do it! Go over it again for me.'

I could feel steps moving over to a desk, sitting down upon it. 'I need there to be fear. He's planning something big, something that involves Hogwarts. We need to be sure that people are worried about what's happening inside of the walls rather than outside.'

'Why?'

'To take the attention away from him, you idiot! He wants freedom, and if Dumbledore is spending time with the issues inside of Hogwarts and the Ministry is too busy investigating it then he can proceed with more speed.'

I heard a faint sound of agreement, followed by a brief silence.

'Did you hear that one of them was seen in Hogsmeade the other day?' the deep voice asked.

'I did.'

'Strange, don't you think.'

'Not really, he probably had work to do, like you do.'

The one sitting down stood up, his steps coming towards the door, not a meter away from the curtains. 'Come on, then.'

More steps followed, the door slowly opening and closing, leaving me to my thoughts. I could follow them, or I could wait it out. I decided on the latter. I'd rather get to the others as soon as possible and tell them about what happened rather than try and get more information. I quickly moved from my hiding spot to the door, opening it a finger's width to see if any more people were about. Not to my surprise, the halls were dark and silent.

I hadn't actually made it all that far from the common room, the portrait opening grudgingly as I announced the password. Marlene was already sitting beside the others, slightly red-faced, talking about her close encounters and dramatising her evening. The girls looked as tired as ever, but still smiled as I walked in, the guys grinning, knowing my forfeit. Mary, Lucy, and Peter had gone upstairs to bed, leaving the others alone.

I sat down between Marlene and Summer, looking at Marls. 'You didn't happen to see two boys walk past you in the corridor on the floor below us?'

She looked as though she was about to gloat, but the moment passed, curiosity now upon her face. 'I saw a light down there but I presumed it was you?'

I shook my head, telling them all about the conversation I had overheard. I left out the part about the 'person' in Hogsmeade. I'm sure I knew who they were talking about and what his job had been. I'd talk to Remus about that later.

'What do you think?' Sirius asked, looking at James as he sat there looking effortlessly cool and handsome, his black hair falling perfectly down his face. Even past midnight the guy looked good.

James shrugged, looking to me. 'It's definitely worthy of Dumbledore's attention. It sounds like they're planning attacks or something.'

'You can go then,' I told him. 'You're Head Boy. I've had enough of going to Dumbledore about things.'

He looked a little strangely at me, as did Sirius and the girls, but I kept my Hogsmeade encounter a secret.

'Sure,' he agreed, smiling. 'Maybe it's something the Head Boy and Girl can do in the morning?'

Lily looked half asleep, but my story had kept her awake. She eyed James up and down, her green eyes inspecting him. 'Okay,' she agreed.

'Good,' Marlene agreed. 'But onto other matters, you owe me a midnight swim!' she grinned happily at me.

I smiled, but shook my head. 'Technically, Marls, we agreed on the same forfeit, but we didn't actually specify on which that would be.'

The girls all looked at me, Marlene pausing. 'No, I definitely stated midnight swim.'

Sirius waved his finger in the air in protest, 'Actually, Marls, you didn't. You said that you'd have to give him money if he wins, so all he has to do is give you money.'

'No,' she raised her voice, 'I said midnight swim!'

James tutted, looking at Sirius in agreement. 'I'm going to have to side with you here, buddy. She definitely didn't specify. It's a broken agreement.'

Remus nodded, getting involved, 'Really there should be no reward or punishment, you definitely weren't clear enough.'

Lily looked at Summer, Marls with he mouth open, red faced.

'Fine,' Lily stated. 'From now on all challenges need to be written down.'

'Like a contract!' Sirius agreed, snapping his fingers and pointing at her with a smile.

'But -' Marlene stuttered, 'but I won!'

'Not tonight, love,' I smiled. I took the two galleons back from Remus and handed them to her. 'It was a silly challenge anyway, next time will be better.'

Summer suddenly yawned, stretching her arms into the air.

'Right,' Lily announced, 'time for bed. We'll go to Dumbledore in the morning,' she told me, 'I'm sure it's nothing.'

I nodded, smiling, our little conversation putting it to the back of my mind.

'Night,' we called out to them as they all walked up the stairs, Summer half asleep and Marlene glaring at me.

'Tomorrow,' she whispered at me, running her thumb across her neck.

I rolled my eyes, their bodies disappearing in the night.

'So,' Sirius grinned, 'food anyone?'

I looked at the others, James licking his lips and Remus rubbing his stomach. 'Sure,' I agreed.
