Alright! Got my motivation back. I am so happy about that. Finally, my favorite part of the whole story. The memories. Let us get started shall we?

I do not own Vampire Knight.

Enjoy!

Chapter 7

A baby... no more than a few weeks old, crying in the cold snow that falls on her face. Her cheeks red from being out for too long and someone reaching out towards the baby. The baby continue crying as the person picked up the small infant and brought it inside. Making a decision that will lead the person's life to change forever.

I opened my eyes to see the light radiating off the window curtains in a bright green color. The room was plain with only a bed, nightstand, closet, and a dresser. Everything was in place before I left my room but a cough was coming up my throat. It hurt so much that ripples of the cough were scratching my throat and talking was impossible. My breathing was heavy, in pants, and everything around me felt hot. Then a nice cold hand was placed on my forehead for me to look at the culprit.

"Father..." I spoke up, despite my throat was hurting.

My father shush me rubbing my head, "Your fever has let up again and your body could not take the stress anymore. You will be staying in your room until you feel better Mei."

I coughed as my reply to lean my head against his cold hand, wanting more of coldness. My whole body was feeling hot and I continue to sweat. My body felt tense and unable to move for me to realize that I was still in my uniform from yesterday. Then, all the events happened for me to jump up in a sitting position.

"Zero!"

I quickly tried to get out of the bed but Father was holding me back.

"Mei, stop. Zero is okay. Kaname handled it," Father explains stopping me. I looked at him confused, wanting more of an explanation. "Kaname was the one that sent you here and requested for you to take a two day break to get better. He understand the situation that was occurring and told Yuuki so she can help.

I breathed heavily to listen to every word he said but I could not understand on why. Why would he have told Yuuki when I was trying to stop Yuuki from giving her blood to him?

"Did Yuuki try to...?" I spoke softly, looking down.

Father shakes his head to undo the button of my jacket as his explanation continues, "Yuuki knows the situation that is happening to Zero. She did not offer one speck of her blood because she knows, it will make you mad." I stare at Father weakly to see his appearance get hazy but I did not rest until he finished. "Mei, I understand that you have a lot on your mind and think you are the only one that can save Zero, but you do need help. From now on Mei, if there is ever a problem dealing with Zero then you need to talk about it with Yuuki. Understand?"

Hearing him say that got me angry. If I told Yuuki, then she would have done something so childish and cause even more problems. But he is right in some ways, I can't do this on my own and if I only spoke to Yuuki about this. I would not have been as sick as I am now. It has been such a long time since I had gotten this sick.

"It's funny..." I spoke up for father to stop taking off my jacket to look up at me, "This reminds me... of Ichi..."

The world was getting hazy again and everything was getting darker with father's silhouette reaching out towards me.

A young child was running around the backyard of the house. The trees were in full bloom, showing beautiful colors of pink, green, orange, yellow, and some brown. Never in the young child's life has she seen something more beautiful than in spring. But what she saw next that was so unreal, like a painting that came to real life. A woman with silver-white hair and eyes of an unusual pink, that resemble of cherry blossoms. Her skin is pale with no marks, no blemishes, and a kimono, white and silky that shows of her figure. She was sitting on a cherry tree branch watching the flowers dancing in the wind. Her eyes slowly begun to connect with the young child that a new bond was forming between them, and neither of them knew it was created in that moment.

Whenever her Father was not paying attention, she would run off to the backyard and go to the tree were she met that woman again. There are days were she would appear but days that she would not show up.

"She... isn't here again," The young child spoke to her herself in disappointed.

She look down and ready to walk away but vision of white and warm arms surrounded her senses. The child look up to see that it was the woman that she has waited for.

"Shizuka!" She shouted happily giving her a hug.

"Child, why do you come here everyday to see me? What is the purpose of coming here?" Shizuka asked.

The child looked up at Shizuka with a big smile that shows of love and happiness. Her bright expression brought a smile to Shizuka's face and continues to hold onto the child even tighter.

"Because Shizuka, you looked so lonely on that day. The day we met. I understand feeling loneliness so I want to make sure that everyday you will have a smile on your face and feel happiness. Even if it is only a little amount," the child replied sincerely.

Shizuka did not expect a response like that. Her expression gave the look of shock and wonder for the child in her arms. But in her heart, she felt as if this little child can truly save her from the misfortune that she was pa-stone upon her since she was born.

"Thank you...Mei."

Shizuka gave Mei a kissed on her forehead and both of them smiled at each other. Doing nothing but hugging under Shizuka's favorite stories and Mei telling her how her day was.

This was the first secret that she has ever kept from her Father at the age of 3. This was a routine that Mei has done. She would eat breakfast with her crazy Father that show so much of his love towards her every breakfast, cleaning up the house when it is needed, and helping making recipes for him. At this age, it was happiness and she had no knowledge that she was adopted or the memories of Anastasia. She was living happily as two year old child should be. However, a room that was locked since she can remember was open and unlock. Her father was off doing work and Yagari was sleeping on the couch. She entered the room and revealed the truth.

"How is she?"

Kaien looked behind him at the kitchen door to see Yuuki and Zero preparing for class. His expression went soft and a smile was planted on his lips.

"She is going to be okay. She only needs to rest and get her energy back up," Kaien responded, returning to making some soup. Zero look down remembering the events that happened yesterday with Mei, "It is not your fault for her illness Zero." Zero looked up at Kaien to face his back, "Mei is a complicated girl that has kept many secrets. Secrets that can make her feel sick but that benefits to save the people she cares about."

Zero look down again to grip on his arm then walked out of the kitchen heading towards Mei's room, with no words being exchange. Yuuki watched his back and returned to look at Kaien watching the same as her. Yuuki bowed in respect and walked off to the academy, attending class. Meanwhile, Zero made it to Mei's door, hesitating on weather to enter and check on her. Part of him wanted to check up on her but the vampire in him knows he wants her blood. It was a disgusting feeling and it took everything he had to calm himself but he agreed to wait. He agreed that he will wait to see what she can do. But... how long does she want him to wait? And how is she going to help him?

While Zero was staring at the door, battling with himself. The sick girl inside the room opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling. She was breathing heavily and tears were falling down to her cheeks. She turned to the side to stare at the window. The window shows a tree branch, a branch that was slowly staring to show cherry blossoms growing. And a girl running towards the branch screaming loudly for someone.

"Shizuka!" The young child screamed, crying.

Everything before her was black and white. No color was ever in front of her, except pink was coming in her vision. A pair of arms wrapped around her frame for the young child to cry on the older woman's kimono. Mei's crying was soaking Shizuka's kimono, her voice of speech was in fragments, little sentence making no sense. But Shizuka understood every word. Mei found out that she isn't her Father's blood related daughter. She does not have the blood of a vampire hunter. She is a child that does not know who she truly is. Shizuka let her cry on her chest until Mei fell in a deep sleep.

Footsteps were being heard by Shizuka to look up at the intruder coming towards them. She stared at the person in front of her and at that moment, another secret was created behind Mei's back. The secret that only Shizuka... and her Father knows.

Mei open her eyes to see her room ceiling. Her eyes widen as she quickly sit up from her bed, and quickly try to rush out but when she opened the door. Her Father greeted her with a gentle smile with Yagari standing right behind him. The young child's eyes was hurting and fresh tears were slipping down her cheeks. Father hold onto her so tightly that even he cried along with her. Never knowing how difficult this truly is.

Soon, they started to talk on Mei's bed and her Father finally told her the whole truth.

"I am sorry Mei. It was never my intention to have hurt you this much. But please remember, the moment I picked you up at my door, I knew that you were my daughter. Blood or not, you are daughter and that is never going to change."

Mei looked up at her Father with wide eyes, then her expression slowly changed into a smile and became lighter. She hugged her Father happily as they fell asleep hugging each other.

More days has gone by, and their relationship has become stronger. She continue to train with her Uncle, along with the bond with Shizuka has gotten stronger. It was still blissful time for her as any child should have until...

"Mei, quickly run!"

Shizuka shouted as level E vampires show up at their familiar spot. Mei quickly ran as she was ordered to, but two Level E's were following her. She could feel their presence and notice the smell of death like her Uncle has taught her. It was scary. She kept running, running, running... then a Level E grabbed her. Throwing her at a nearby tree with inhuman strength. Her back hit the bark with some of it piercing her skin but her back head hit harder on the bark.

"Mei!"

Voices were coming in and out of her ears with ringing. She would go deaf one second and back to the ringing. Voice continue shouting that name. The name of Mei was feeling foreign to her as visions of a different girl came into her vision. A girl by the name... of Anastasia.

"Mei, may I came in?"

Her brain started working to the present and the window was coming slowly back to her vision. A knock on the door and the voice of Zero registered. She coughed loudly for Zero to stop his movements on turning the door knob.

"I..." She coughed again while trying to answer Zero, "I'm sorry Zero... but I would appreciate it if..." She coughed with a disgusting sound, "please go Zero..."

She continued coughing, unable to speak anymore. She stayed under the blanket as more coughing was being heard. Zero's hands were in a fist and walked away from the door. Zero can tell by her coughing that she was in pain and he couldn't do anything to help. She has helped him many times, including now, but what he didn't expect was Kaname entering scene of Yagari pointing a gun at him.

"Are you going to give up like that Level E? While she is in pain and continues to think only about you."

At those words, he grabbed the gun to point it away from him. He didn't know what Kaname meant until he told them that Mei was having terrible fever, and she collapsed. His eyes widen for her knew that Kaname blamed him for this. Blames him that Mei had this fever. Blames him that Mei hates him. Blames him for stealing Mei. He knew. Zero knew how Kaname treasures Mei. After all, he can understand his feelings.

"Anastasia Rosalie Davis. What do you think you are doing?" "Anastasia, be careful sweetie." "Silly girl, it is your birthday. Not mine." "NO! Do not take her from me! Ana!"

Mei sit up screaming as a dream of Anastasia with the color of black and red revealing that only scene before she died. Every scream, her father ran to her room and calm her down from her new nightmares. That accident with the Level E. She was saved by Yagari and memories of Anastasia were surfacing. At the end of her dreams of Anastasia, she would always see the scenes before she dies. Lying there asleep but the color red will appear later in her vision, along with screams of her mother. Mei started to realize that the dreams weren't dreams but who she use to be. Anastasia Rosalie Davis was her.

She saw this world differently and begin to remember that all the events that will happen in this world. She was only three years old and realized that she was close at age with Yuuki. She had to wait another two years before she can meet the two main people of this world.

She would see Shizuka less by training more frequently with Yagari. Her memories of Anastasia were coming more frequent but stopped once all of them were shown. Anastasia's happy memories, sad memories, angry moments, embarrassing moments, every moment was engraved into her brain. Because every memory involved her mother. Her only family. Her biggest role model. Her mother that made her life in the hospital full of happiness and made it seem like it was a home. She loved her mother but she can never see her again. Having knowledge of that, broke her heart sometimes but learned to accept the fact.

In memory of her mother, she would sing her mother's favorite song whenever she missed her. Nobody questioned it but wanted to hear more of Mei's voice. She started to sing in front of Shizuka too.

"What song is that called?" Shizuka asked, looking at the cherry blossoms.

"Bei Mir Bist du Schoen," Mei replied.

Her eyes became soft as her mother's smile entered vision and a single tear fell. More secrets were pilling up for Mei. As these old memories appear everyday, she had to grow up fast.

A cold hand was placed on Mei's forehead. She woke up to see silky silver hair and those familiar lavender eyes. Those gentle eyes that had her remember a special person from her childhood. A person that she had to take care of and ended up being like an older brother. But she failed... because she introduce him to...

"Ichiru..." Mei whispered to reach towards him. "Don't leave... Ichi..."

The person grabbed Mei's hand with their other hand and hold onto tightly. She felt at peace, holding onto the person's hand tightly with a soft feeling on her forehead. Mei's eyes began to close as memories of Ichiru and her playing together came through.

"Ichi, be careful. You are still sick," Mei says scolding him.

She kneel down to a coughing Ichiru. He was smiling at her, trying to act tough but was in a lot of pain. She got mad at me because he wanted to play a game with her but played to hard. His fever got even worst and she repeatedly scolded him until he finally went to bed. She sighed, swearing in her head that she acts like the older sister when he is four years old and she is only three. But her soul is that of a much older person, teenager to be exact.

"Ichiru, if you tell me stories about you and brother then I'll have you meet someone special to me," Mei compromised.

Little did she know, that her compromising something like that would speed the process between Ichiru and Shizuka. Ichiru told her stories about all the things that Zero and him would do with Yagari. How his brother was a great hunter. His face would show nothing but love for his brother. It truly surprised her how he ended up despising his only twin.

"All right. You told me the stories, but now it is my turn to keep my end of the deal. Tonight, let us get meet her," Mei giggled, laying next to Ichiru.

Ichiru looked at her confused, holding her hand questioning, "Her?"

"Someone who is special to me and has known since I was two years old," Mei replied smiling.

Later that night, when her father was asleep. She woke up Ichiru to get ready to go outside and quietly rushed into a familiar spot with trees surrounding them. They finally reached a tree with cherry blossoms falling to show... her.

"Shizuka!" Mei called, waving her hand happily.

Shizuka turned her vision to Mei and Ichiru. Mei waved with a big smile on her face while Ichiru was hypnotized from her beauty. A beautiful person but eyes filled with so much sadness until her eyes looked at Mei. Then, he saw her eyes show only love towards a young girl. As he felt Mei let go of his hand, he watched those two embrace each other. The young girl smiling happily at the elder woman and the eyes of a sad woman was smiling with love, on her expression and in her eyes.

Mei looked back at Ichiru to smile at him, waving him over. She had hoped that if he got to meet Shizuka before then things will be different. That if she tried hard enough to give Ichiru and Shizuka happiness and see the bright side of this world then things will be different.

But as everyone knows, the darkness in people's heart can only change so little.

The person left Mei's room to close it behind her but a crash behind him turn towards the culprit. As the person stared at the culprit, the culprit could not believe what he was seeing.

"You're... alive... Ichiru..."

Ichiru smirked to greet him, "It's been a while Kaien. Forgive me for coming through Mei's window. I had a message from-"

"Shizuka," Kaien interrupted him. He sighed crossing his arms, "I told her that when Mei is ready she will-"

"Mei doesn't have time to get ready," Ichiru interrupted Kaien back. "Shizuka is coming soon, and she wants to know Mei's answer. If she doesn't get it soon, then her arrival will be faster than any of you can be ready for."

Ichiru walked away from Kaien narrowing his eyes at his back. His hands were in fist and he stared at Mei's door.

"Mei, they are going to need you more than ever. Emiko... watch over her where ever you are."

As two years past, Mei's relationship with Ichiru have become strong but he would show up less and less. Meaning that he wasn't getting sick that often anymore and Shizuka wouldn't show up at their usual spot anymore. Before long, Mei has stopped going there and accepted the fact that she wouldn't she see Shizuka until that day.

Mei was five years old now and preparing a dinner for her and her father. A storm was heading their way but all she could think about was Shizuka and Ichiru. She hoped that they were okay and that her plan worked for them. A knock on the entrance door entered her senses. Mei and her Father stared at each other until he got up from the table and walked to the entrance.

"Mei, hurry come quick."

Her father shouted in a hurry. Mei turned off the stove and quickly rushed off for her eyes to widen as she stared at the entrance. In front of her eyes are the two people that will change everything in her life.

"Mei, I would like to meet you Kaname Kuran."

That was the official day of Mei meeting Kaname and Yuki.
