"True Love is worth crying over. Your true lover will never make you cry on purpose." ~Author Unknown
Once Ruby had finished with her shower and changing of her own bandages, she walked through her dorm room door with Blake, said Faunus's blush slowly fading away. Although there was one thing that was off about the scene, and Ruby knew what that thing was.
She didn't have her hood.
Every moment without it felt like that she was missing a piece of her soul, each and every fiber in that cloak that gave the huntress her signature look being precious to her, nervousness and a sense of vulnerability beginning to seep into her being. But, she did have a certain bow wearing girl next to her that could answer her question.
"Hey Blake, where's my cloak?" Her silver eyes met amber eyes as they walked, the bell having just rung to signal the beginning of lunch.
"Weiss had it last I checked. Why?"
That's when it hit her; Ruby looked very insecure without her hood, something that blake had never noticed before. Yes, Ruby was always bubbly, energetic, and very outgoing with friends and even sometimes new people. But during that entire time, she had never really seen Ruby without her signature hood.
"O-oh. Alright then." Ruby perked up a bit before wincing, her left hand going to her right shoulder. "Ow."
"You okay Red?" Blake looked towards the smaller huntress with hints of worry dancing in her eyes.
"Y-yeah, I just pulled a bit and the bandages scratched them. Nothing to worry about. Really." Ruby smiled nervously, the bandages under her clothing soaking up a bit of blood that had come out of her wound due to the sudden twist during the walk.
"Alright...just remember, I'm here for you." Blake smiled as they walked into the cafeteria, the students of Beacon already eating their lunches as the bow wearing faunus and injured huntress got their food before sitting down at their table, which at the moment they could see a small argument occurring between the other half of team RWBY and the entirety of team JNPR.
"What?! There is no way that a King Taijitu could beat a Nevermore. It'd literally be impossible!"
Yang pointed an accusatory finger at Ren, the calm demeanor of the magenta eyed huntsman never faltering as he ate.
"I'm just saying. Two heads, double intelligence. Plus, yes, the Nevermore has a range advantage, but when in a thick forest, they are powerless against the King." Ren's face grew a small smile as he ate, the blonde just groaning in defeat before sitting down. "Oh and Hello Ruby, hello Blake."
Once he had made that statement, everyone at the table turned their heads and greeted the two, the RB of team RWBY sitting with the WY of the team.
"Sup Rubes!" Yang smiled as she wrapped her arm around her sisters shoulders as she continued to eat, her mouth being full as she talked. "Donsh chu agree wish me sish? A Neversmore would never besh beatin by a Kingsh Taijitu!"
"Yang…..please swallow." At that, the older of the two swallowed. "And second off, it depends where they are. nevermore wins in a wide open area, while a King Taijitu wins in a dense area."
"Awww…." At that, Yang pouted as she continued to eat, which elicited a giggle from her younger sister.
"Oh! hey Weiss, I was wo-" her sentence was interrupted when she felt a piece of paper hit the side of her head. Within a few seconds, she opened it up before slightly deflating, her legs being pulled onto the bench as her silver eyes looked around in paranoia.
"Ruby...what's on the paper?" Weiss looked at her partner and the note, a sour taste in her mouth as she had an idea of what the note said.
"N-nothing!" Ruby tried to stash the paper away, but saw that Blake was already reading it.
"Great…" She sighed as she handed the heiress the note, which caused her eyes to scan it as a scowl formed on her face.
Why's a screw-up like you still here?
A small growl emanated from the huntress as she looked around with her icy blue eyes, the two blue orbs soon resting on a very familiar team that they all knew too well.
CRDL.
And more specifically, Cardin Winchester, who was currently laughing with his team about something, The sight of them laughing only made Weiss's glare towards them grow even colder as she saw Cardin bring out a piece of paper and beginning to write something onto it. But that thing was never able to be completed when a glyph appeared under his hand, causing it to bolt forwards and spill his lunch all over his teammates, which then began a small argument between the four of them.
"That's better. Now then, it's time to go Ruby."
"W-what? B-but I just started to eat." Even though this was true, most of her food was already gone since she hadn't had breakfast that morning, her appetite having made her take large bites.
"Be that as it may, you're already done and so am I. Plus, I've got a few things to show you, now, come on."
Weiss smiled as she took Ruby by the hand and began to half lead her, half drag her out of the cafeteria, and just in time too because Nora was now starting up a story about how her and Ren had faced off against a giant Nevermore that had lasers.
Now in the hallways, Ruby slightly compressed her form, her eyes shifting left and right as her legs began to produce a pace that could keep up with the heiress next to her, her mind now only set on getting back to the dorm. But might as well talk while walking, right?
"S-so Weiss, how was your first couple of classes?"
"Oh they were fine, but trust me, you're lucky you missed them."
As Weiss began to go about the day so far that Ruby had missed, the usually red-clad huntress could barely hear her over her own thoughts and worries. W….what if I am just a screwup? Maybe that's why I got hurt in the Emerald Forest...ugh...I should've been paying attention to the shadows that night! Unbeknownst to Ruby, her pace had quickened ahead of Weiss, said white-clad huntress trying to get her partners attention, but as they rounded a corner, Ruby tripped and accidentally fell when she bumped into someone.
"Ow…." Ruby slightly rubbed her knee a bit, it feeling like she had just hit a piece of metal.
"Oh! I am so so sorry miss."
A gloved hand reached out to her, it being a dull gray. When the now sitting huntress looked up, she would be met with a woman that looked too old to be a student, but too young to be a professor standing in front of her. Although her eye said different; the ocean blue orb showing confidence and pride, the left orb currently being hidden by an eyepatch,
"It's alright." Ruby slightly winced as she was hoisted up by her arm, said huntress now regaining her bearings.
"Ruby, are you okay?" Weiss walked up next to her and looked between the two.
"I'm fine Weiss, just the same old wounds is all." Ruby smiled the best reassuring smile she could give her partner at the moment as she stood next to her.
"Alright then. And sorry that my friend bumped into you. It was an-"
"Accident. I know. From what I could see, she was in her own thoughts." The woman's mouth turned upwards into a smile as she offered her hand to the pair of huntresses, which they slowly shook one after the other. "Now then, I must be going, but.." The woman stood straight before saluting, her hand lightly shading an insignia of two harpoons that lay upon her green beret. "Until we meet again, I hope you have a wonderful day."
And at that, she walked off, a slight tune coming from the woman.
"Well….that was….kind of odd…"
Weiss blinked a bit as she watched the woman walk away, her uniform screaming Atlesian military to her, but, that didn't matter, nor did she care at the moment as she continued to walk with Ruby to their dorm room. But as they walked and eventually did get to their home inside of their school, the usually red-clad huntress would hear something, if anything echoing nearby. It didn't seem like Weiss could hear it, so she just played it off as a trick of the wind in her mind. The words being in the distance, yet comforting.
You are not a screw-up….
"Weiss…...can I open my eyes now?" Groaned Ruby as she kept her eyes shut on orders of her crush, about five or so minutes having past.
"Not yet dolt!" Eventually though in the shrouded world of darkness Ruby was now in, she'd eventually feel the mattress underneath her body shift as a new weight was put onto it. "Alright, now you can."
"Yay! Now, what were the things you wanted to sho-" The word had been caught in Ruby's throat when she saw it.
In front of her was her cloak, but, the fabric was no longer flawless in its texture. In a place or two on where her right side would be, there was stitches to keep it together along with patches of the same material. The cloak that had always been so dear to her lay in Weiss's hands along with her usual outfit of red and black, both having stitches in them to the point that the tears were barely noticeable.
"After seeing you go through that attack in the Forest, I wanted to do something for you Ruby." Unlike it's usual haughtiness, Weiss's voice was now kind and gentle, her icy blue eyes looking into the silver eyes staring back at her. "It took some time, along with some help from blake and Pyrrha, but I was finally able to make it perfect." She smiled as she gently placed the items into Ruby's lap, but then something she didn't expect happen.
Ruby began to cry.
"Ruby, what's wrong?" Weiss's eyes grew full of concern as she placed her hand on Ruby's uninjured shoulder, the huntress in front of her merely shaking her head as she wiped away a few tears.
"N-nothing Weiss. I...it's just that I'm so happy." She smiled. Not a smile full of nervousness or self doubt, but a smile of true joy as she suddenly wrapped the heiress in a tight hug. "T-thank you Weiss...y...you don't know how much this means to me."
Weiss, for a lack of a better term, was speechless. The huntress that had started out the day with a cheerful smile was now crying into her shoulder, not out of sorrow, but out of pure joy and happiness.
"..." The heiress smiled before she picked up Ruby's chin and looked into her eyes. "Ruby, there is no need to thank me. I would do this and much more to make sure that you're happy."
The blush on the red-clad huntresses cheeks was a mix of both a burning warmth inside of her and embarrassment for what the heiress had just said. Without any words being spoken, she brought Weiss into a warm hug, her eyes closing as the tears stopped falling. Even though it was the middle of the day, drowsiness was slowly beginning to overtake the injured huntress, a soft tune escaping Weiss's lips, which only progressed the process. And soon enough, she was asleep.
Ozpin sighed as he sipped coffee from his mug, a slight steam coming out of it as he gazed through his window, Beacon Academy being as rambunctious as ever, although the sight that would normally bring him such pride could not douse his sour mood.
"I hope that you have a reason for being here James." He turned around, his eyes meeting the eyes of his friend, yet also current annoyance in his side.
"I do Oz." Ironwood smiled a bit as he stood there in the middle of Ozpin's office, the door slowly opening before he stepped aside. "Ever since the White Fang's Breach via the train system from Mt. Glenn, it has become quite obvious that Vale is becoming a very dangerous place. A place with a lot of unwanted activity. That is why I was able to get some paperwork filed and have a friend stationed here."
The General smiled as a woman walked up and stood next to him. Her hair was a deep brown, most of it being cute short while only the back was allowed to become a ponytail, said tail cascading down the front of her torso. Each and every gold button had been shined to a near brilliance that contrasted with the dull grey of the uniform while her white lining only was a part of her uniforms coat, her pants feeding into a pair of knee-high black boots.
"Colonel Abigail Albus reporting for duty sir." Her gloved hand rested against her forehead as she saluted General Ironwood and Professor Ozpin, her ocean blue eye gazing through the window and overlooking the Academy before retreating back and looking into Ozpin's. "I promise you that we will get along."
