Chapter 7: Worse timing
Before I knew it, I was sprinting out of the truck as I stumbled out. Along with Julia's yells for me, my leg hurt like hell. I didn't care, as I ran farther, screeches were present and a man yelling.
Oh god, no it can't be.
"Stay! Help!".
It was a man's voice, too familiar.
It was Carver's.
"Hey! Over here! I shot him!" I stopped in my tracks as I slid along the dirt, seeing a wide pair of eyes on me.
Malcom, Ellie, Alexander, Carver, Foster, Kemp, and oh god Hope. What the hell were they doing here? But my attention was brought forward to Ash who was laying on the ground holding his shoulder tightly. He was shot by Carver.
"Elena Gabriella Véga!" Hope said sternly, "Get away from-" She was stopped as we heard chatter and screeches from the side. Many of the apes from the village were present with weapons, and I was startled as Rocket landed in front of us with a spear, though his attention was brought to his son as he hurried to him and sat him up.
Caesar mounted on a hill as he overlooked the people I knew.
Rocket begun to sign hysterically as he started whimpering and hooting, in fear and worry as he signed to Caesar.
"They shot Ash! They shot my son!"
Damn, this freaking sucked. I glanced at Blue Eyes who had his teeth bared as he snarled at the group, and the last time I even saw Blue Eyes like this was when the Mountain lion attacked me.
"Rocket, wait" Caesar signed to him, and as he turned back to the people I knew his face grew to stern, and full of anger and pride.
Malcom looked up to him,"We don't mean any harm!" Carver interrupted "Their apes man, do you think they understand what your saying?" He whispered, Malcom kept his focus on Caesar "Do they just look like apes to you?".
I would've said yes, but couldn't all the apes had such human qualities. Malcom glanced at me, and back at Caesar and started to walk forward at Caesar.
"Dad?" Alexander looked curiously at him, and Ellie looked nervous "Malcom what are you doing?".
"Put your guns down" Malcom spoke, Foster looked at him freaked and said "You can't be serious?".
"Do it" everyone lowered their weapons, looking nervous as hell.
Caesar looked upon them.
"Go!"
Holy crap, that scared me to death. He was powerful, and dangerous. Though I given him respect on that, everyone looked so frantic, and freaked out, mainly from hearing an ape speak.
Caesar yelled again as the group ran off, but Hope looked back at me as she was rushed by the others, "Wait! Elena!".
"Koba!" Koba came forth "Follow," Caesar signed, and spoke at the same time, Koba and a few other apes went to follow. I saw Maurice pick up Alexanders bag to examine it, and then suddenly I was taken by the arm by an Ape I didn't know and was forced into the village.
Julia was forced in as well, what the hell did they want with us? Did they think we knew this would happen?
The pain on my leg was so intense that I had to sit down, I was hoping that I didn't reopen the stitches.
Caesar walked up to us with his son, and he looked upon us with such a forbidding look and stern.
"Did you two know anything about this?" Was all he signed, and I shook my head.
"No! Of course not, you fucking think that Julia and I knew this was going to happen!" I said as I stood up, though Julia caught my arm, "Lena!" She said sternly.
I was so fumed by this, so I relaxed, "Caesar, we had nothing to do with this...I don't even know why they're here..." I said quietly as I looked down and clenched my fist tightly.
"Lena" I looked up and saw Caesar, "Your right, we know you two much better than that, but are you sure?" I nodded firmly. And Caesar said alright and walked away.
"How's Ash?" Was all I said, and Blue Eyes signed, "He's okay, bullet only scraped his skin, has scar now".
Then something came to me, Hope saw me with the bandage around my shoulder and calf, I bet when I come back, she will definitely be lecturing me in Spanish.
"Well I'm massively screwed when I get back, to get a lecture..." Julia faced me confused, "Lena what do you mean?".
"Hope was there, with Malcolm, Ellie, Alexander and three others" Her eyes widened, "Oh shoot..." She mumbled.
We had to stay till Koba and the two others come back, so that meant to stay in the main center of the village. I was just dressed in a thin tank-top and shorts with no shoes, there was mud caked slightly on my feet as I scraped it off.
Then Rory came, "I heard what happened, many are saying that you two did know about this, but I don't" She signed, and I grinned, "Thanks Rory..." I let my eyes gaze around, trying to look for Blue Eyes brother.
"Where's Milo?" I asked, and Rory shook her head, "He hasn't been feeling well, my mother says he's sick" Man, I felt bad for the little guy.
Rory then quickly walked away as three apes on horses were present. And Koba quickly came to Caesar and sat down, apes that I knew joined as well.
Maurice was flipping through Alexanders sketchbook that had sketches of the outbreak simian flu, the riots that occurred, chaos, and his mother.
This was a meeting to discuss of what just happened, and it sucked that Julia and I had to be apart of it.
"Must attack them now, before they attack us!" I scoffed at Koba, the Colony would only attack if they were being threatened in anyway. The old orangutan pitched in, "We don't know how many there are. How many guns they have?" We had a lot of ammunition to look over, Dreyfus was in charge of the armory in the Colony.
A gorilla named Luca signed, "Or why they came up here" The Koba's eye's fell to us, "They might now" I gaped at him, and almost stood up, "We don't know a damn thing you freaking bast-" My mouth was covered by Julia and I rolled my eyes at her.
"Carry on" She said nervously, and took her hand off my mouth.
"They shot your son Rocket. Don't you want to fight?" Rocket looked at Koba sternly, "I follow Caesar".
What Blue Eyes said next shocked me "Koba, Right!" It was a little understandable though since Ash was just shot my Carver though and Blue Eyes was still pissed off about it.
My gaze fell to Caesar, his face was strict and emotionless as he looked upon the members of his council going at it.
"They almost killed you Ash!" Many of the apes started hooting and screeching, some in worry and anger. I could tell by Ash's face he didn't want to be part of the argument.
And Caesar, well Caesar looked like he's had enough of everyone's shit.
"NO!"
Julia and I jumped back, I was still not used to Caesar yelling like that. Everyone became silent and Caesar sighed as he relaxed a little and began to sign, "If we go to war...we could lose all we've built".
Deep down, I knew Koba wanted war, he was someone of bloodlust, and then Caesar began to speak quietly as he signed at the same time.
"Home, family..." He then faced Koba and lifted his chin slightly, "Future..." He then looked upon everyone else, "I will decide by morning" Caesar then got up as he walked away and Koba followed.
I looked at Blue Eyes unsure, "Are we allowed to leave?".
"Maybe, though my father may want to talk to you after he checks on Milo and Lydia with my mother" I nodded, and after most of the apes scattered off except Blue Eyes and Ash I looked at Julia.
"You don't think Malcolm and everyone else thought that we were being held hostage right?" Julia shook her head firmly, "Of course not, though...perhaps..." She trailed off and I sighed.
"But I do need to check on your stitches since you ran off like that" Julia added as she peeled off the bandages and checked my stitches, "Your lucky then" She mumbled and I smirked.
Sometime later, after impatient waiting Caesar signed he wanted to talk to Julia and I alone. And we made our way towards him.
"I've decided that us apes will be heading into the human home tomorrow, when's the best time to not cause so much panic when we're first on the bridge" Oh shit, they were going to the Colony, though I'm sure Caesar will do it peacefully.
"Head out early in the morning, that's when security isn't at the gateway to get inside. Everyone is pretty much in the main center of the Colony" Julia explained, and I added "Though when they do see you guys it will cause a scare, security is armed all the time" Caesar grunted in approval and thanked us, and said that we could leave at anytime. Though it had to be right now since Hope and everyone else saw me.
We said our goodbyes again to Blue Eyes and Ash along with Caesar and his Council members, I also gave a small wave to Rory who was near her father and she smiled softly.
Without thinking I looked back at Blue Eyes once more, his piercing ice, cold eyes drew me in. And he stared at me with such passion like yesterday, though I gave him a small smile. Pretty much telling him it will be okay.
Washing the mud off my feet, I dressed in a tan tank-top, with a dark red plaid shirt over it, and a small belt at my waist, along with blue jeans rolled up and my dusty combat boots. And let my hair flow loose, we drove back the trail when we first arrived here.
Julia continued driving and drove quicker as she had the car head down to the main gateway, Security was present as we drove up and they immediately let us in. I was not too thrilled to come back here.
Hope was the first one waiting for us at the door of the main center of the Colony. Her face read such worry, not anger and she quickly ran to us. After a week I missed Hope, so did Julia.
"¡Oh Dios mío! ¡Estaba muy preocupado!" Hope exclaimed in Spanish and I laughed slightly, though she whacked me on the head giving me a stern look.
"Ay! Hope!" I said confused as I rubbed my head.
"¿Estás tocado en la cabeza? Oh, Dios mío, ¿por qué te quedaste allí? ¡Jesús, Elena!" She lectured in Spanish, and I sighed annoyed.
"¡No estoy loco!" I explained back in Spanish, and then Julia chimed, "Uh guys, remember English speaking person here".
I translated back to English, "The reason why I stood there is because they weren't gonna hurt me, I was with them for a week Hope, I was fine".
"Then what's up with the bandages I saw you with?" Hope asked, and I sighed awhile I laughed nervously, "I was attacked by a Mountain lion...".
"God, Elena you are such a danger magnet..." Hope said as she shook her head "The point is you both are alright, now come inside awhile I check the wounds" Hope explained as she walked us in our apartment, and guilt started to eat me up.
Julia and I were the only ones who know that Caesar and the rest of the apes are all coming here tomorrow morning.
It was going to take a lot of people by surprise, and full of fear.
What's stronger than fear and worry?
My thoughts then trailed off back to the Blue Eyed ape I looked back too. We were really good friends right now, though I was...I was into him, and most friends do not have such thoughts about one another. Though the only one who knew was Julia, I was unsure about Ash and I couldn't possibly tell Hope knowing how she would react.
Just then, Malcolm, Ellie and Alexander rushed in at our news back, "Thank goodness you two are alright!" Ellie gleamed as she smiled.
"Of course we're alright...these apes are nothing you guys are thinking of them right now, and it's proof since I stayed with them for a week. One of them even helped with my wounds as well, and the leader and his son they're compassionate, and incredible, and they don't mean harm" I was unsure about Blue Eyes though, he was starting to like humans. That was ruined by Carver of course.
"Same thing I thought, they have a..." Malcolm tried to find the right word and Julia answered for him, "A human like quality" He nodded, "Yeah exactly".
"Why were you guys up there in the first place" I asked firmly, and Malcolm faced me.
"Dreyfus sent us up, our power is running out. So we checked to see if the dam is working, and we'll probably get power running, but as soon as we heard Carver you know the rest" I arched an eyebrow at him.
"Does the Colony know about the power shortage" He shook his head.
"No, Dreyfus wants to keep it down low, as well as what happened in the woods, and after what happened we're not sure if we should come back, but that dam is our only option right now" Malcolm finished.
"What happened to your shoulder and leg?" Ellie asked worried, and I replied "Mountain lion" She shook her head at me, "You're such a danger magnet Lena".
"So how are doing Alex?" Julia questioned and he sighed, "I, er, dropped my bag there..." I didn't mention about Maurice flipping through his sketchbook, since Caesar was going to have Blue Eyes take the bag to him tomorrow as soon as they arrive.
"Bummer..." I muttered as I looked to my side.
"Do you girls need to rest? I bet you two are still frazzled of what happened" Hope suggested and we agreed on the idea. Today was hectic and it was hard to get our minds off of what just happened and what's going to happen when Caesar comes.
