Chapter 7: Melting Ice

PurplishBlue Heiress

"Elsa." Jack said.

"Jack." Elsa responded.

The two of them just stared at each other, until Elsa moved closer with 1 meter distance. "I'll sit here."

"And why?"

"This is my land. When I was a person back then, I'm the queen of this land. You shall not command me to leave for I have my rights." Jack widened his eyes. "You're the Queen of this land? Oh. Then so?" He defiantly mocked, crossing his arms.

"Obey me or leave." Elsa smirked.

Jack stared at her incredulously. He just found a marvelous spot for watching dream sands! And unfortunately, the Snow Queen was literally the QUEEN of the land, which frustrates him even more."Fine!" He shouted. There's a hint of hesitation in his voice.

Elsa smiles and gladly took her sit, still with 1 meter distance between them. Elsa folded her knees up and wrapped her arms around it, her chin resting to her knees. She just watched the dream sands in awe as they enter each of the children's windows, forming various shapes depending on the children's desire. This made a smile creep to Elsa's innocent face.

Jack, as well, just watched the dream sands in amazement. Surely, he has found a place for a marvelous view of dream sands. It's really wonderful which made the boy smile sincerely.

For no reason, his eyes shifted its gaze to a certain Snow Queen. Based on his observation, she just sat there with the same position, watching the dream sand in wonder with those big rounded vivid blue eyes; Those eyes that were filled with wonder and joyfulness. Her bangs were swaying with the cold breeze that made it look so soft. Her face... her features look so innocent and pure. As if it was a face of an eighteen year old lady. The lipstick just made her look mature. A streak of sand suddenly came its way in front of them. Elsa giggles as she caresses the grains, forming abstract shapes as she did so. Jack's eyes widened a fraction at the sight. He never thought that the woman beside him could be so- Beautiful... He thought unconsciously.

As the streak of glowing sand has gone, Elsa stares at the view again and sighs. Forlorn eyes were now visible on those once alive eyes. Jack's eyes softened at the scenario. This girl beside him is his most hated creature in the entire universe yet she was there, sitting beside him and all he could feel is nothing but warmth. As he looks at her, he can feel that something is fluttering inside him. There's something weird inside his chest that makes him feel nervous and uncomfortable.

Is it his heart? If that's so... what is this feeling?

"Quit staring. I might melt." Jack suddenly woke up from his reverie and realized that the subject of his imagination is currently looking at her with those soft eyes and warm smile... Wait, what?!

"I'm not staring at you! I'm just looking at the... err... the glowing sand that passed by." He said sheepishly, scratching his head in embarrassment. He heard a soft chuckle which made the boy blush more, turning his head away from her. "Shut up!"

"Eh, what? I'm playing with the sands..." Elsa responded with a hint of confusion in her tone. Jack turned his head back to see that Elsa's looking at him in confusion with glowing sands twirling around her. This made the blood to creep up Jack's face more in embarrassment. He assumed that she's laughing because... Ugh! I look like a fool! Jack scolded himself, looking incredulously at Elsa.

In annoyance, Elsa pouted. "What? Am I also forbidden to play with the sands?" She scrunched her nose after saying that... which looked cute in the eyes of the winter spirit. Jack shook his head unbelievably. What's happening to me?

"Everything's forbidden when it comes to the likes of you." Jack retorted as he ignored the mushy feelings he's currently having trouble with. With this, Elsa glares at him. He smirked as a response. At least, everything's going back to normal again.

Elsa heaved out a sigh of frustration and just stared back at the scenario where dream sands were at work. "Jack, I have a favor to ask."

"I'm not gonna acknowledge it."

"I'm the Queen of this land, you must-"

"Then why did you ask if you're just gonna decide eventually?" Jack retorted. Well, he sure does have a point.

Elsa shrugged her shoulders and shifted her gaze on the land she once ruled. She heaved out a deep breath and smiles at it. "Please, just this time, listen to me." She said, almost a whisper but enough for Jack to hear. Jack wanted to retort, but it seems that the glare from the Snow Queen is enough to shut him up.

Oh now she's gonna tell a story. What a drag. He rolled his eyes and just stares at the view.

Elsa flashes a satisfied look and shifted her gaze to the sky, where the moon is currently glowing white. "I was born with my powers back when I'm still alive. You know why? Because my mother told me that she and my Father sought help to the trolls regarding my mother bearing a child. She was infertile, but because of the trolls my mother was able bore a child, and that child was me. But why do I have powers? Because it's the trolls' condition. The first born will possess a natural power depending on the season where the baby will be brought out, and there I was born with the season of winter. That's why I've got these Icy powers." She told him, and this made Jack's curiosity grew.

He never knew that the Snow Queen possessed powers when she was alive. Well, he never knew that humans can possess such powers. What makes him interested is the part where her powers will depend on the season she will be born. At least it's better to be born with the season of winter and get Ice powers. Who wants to be born on spring with your powers involving flowers? Or in summer with fire powers? Or even autumn with who-knows-what powers? Well, what will be the powers of Elsa if she was accidentally born with the season of autumn? Turn green leaves to dry leaves? Come on.

Elsa continues her story. "Then there I was, the first born of the Queen and King of Arendelle that will soon become the Queen to take over. After three years, another child was born. That was my younger sister, Anna. She's jolly, optimistic, loving, cares for everything... everything is just beautiful when it comes to her character. We were so close back then, almost inseparable. I treated her like she's the most beautiful thing happened to me and I promised myself that I will always protect her from anything; That I will make her happy for the rest of my life."

Because of this, he remembers his younger sibling Emma. Just like what Elsa said, her younger sibling's happiness is what matters to him and he will no longer let anyone hurt her. She's everything to him. Elsa's description to Anna is almost the same as Emma. Jolly, optimistic and cares for everything. At that thought, he suddenly felt lonely; lonely because he will no longer see her.

Jack notices that Elsa suddenly goes forlorn. It's obvious in her eyes."But all of it was crushed when something terrible happened. I struck her heart with my powers while we were playing. She loses consciousness and I also noticed this streak of white hair appear at the certain part of her head. I was horrified, and all I could do is to shout for my mother and father to seek help. Luckily, the trolls were there to help. But because of that, memories of me having powers were all wiped out at the memories of Anna. After that incident, I shut people out including my sister. She must not know that I have powers. I must not reveal my true self to her, so what I did is isolate myself to others. It was hard, painful, knowing that you should not let others see and talk to you just to cover the truth. I did that to protect Anna, because I love her so much. But also because of this, I felt the real isolation. The isolation that if you tried to get out into the reality and show your true self, they will be afraid of you and they will never believe you because all they see in you is danger; The feeling of not to be believed in." She said as her eyes were focused on the ground.

This struck Jack straight into the heart. He knew it very well. Elsa's story is almost the same as his. He remembers it all. The way she cared and protected her sibling is just like his. If Elsa isolated herself to protect her sister, Jack sacrificed his life just to protect her sister from harm. Because of their over-protectiveness with their younger sibling, they both ended in a worst situation: Isolation. Elsa suffered isolation in a different level as well as Jack. Although Elsa's isolation is different compared to Jack's, it still has the same sense: People don't believe in them.

"As years passed, everything seemed to be on pressure. The time I turned 21, the truth has been uncovered. It was my coronation, and Anna accidentally took my gloves out of my hands. She started showing her true feelings regarding our past life and how painful it is for her. Out of immense pain, my powers reveal itself. Out of horror, I ran off leaving Anna and my people. This resulted into a winter chaos. But still, Anna's so determined to find me; to get me back to Arendelle and fix the problem I made, but I was so stubborn and accidentally struck her heart again. This time it's terrible. The only cure to get rid of her frozen heart is true love, but I was held captive by her fiancé and even tried to kill her, but Anna managed to survive. When I got out of the prison cell because of my uncontrolled power, her fiancé told me that Anna was dead. This made me shatter into pieces as I grieve for the loss of my sister. I didn't even noticed that he's going to kill me when Anna suddenly made her way behind me to protect me, and then she turns into solid Ice which made her fiancé fly back. I was totally in shock that she's still alive, but it's too late because she has become a statue of Ice. It ripped my heart as I hug her, telling her I love her and I've never shut her out. But then, I was surprised when Anna came back to her true self, and that makes me the happiest woman on the planet. It seems like the true love of sisters is the key to her problem, as well as mine. The Arendelle that was once a winter hell, turned into a beautiful place once again. There I learned that love will thaw a frozen heart. Because of love, everything's back to normal; And because I fought the fear inside me, people accepts me. And on that day, all the people around me start to believe in me." Elsa flashes a genuine smile.

Jack's eyes softened as he hears this. He also knew the feeling of acceptance; the feeling of to be believed in. Just like Elsa, Jack has gone through hardships to meet his acceptance. To fight his fears and accept love are also his key to what he is right now. He never thought that the woman he despise the most has the same story as his.

Now, everything seems to be confusing anymore. He doesn't know now what to believe. Elsa's story or his own judgments? He can't decide now...

He doesn't know what to believe anymore.

A shaky breath was suddenly heard in the area. To Jack's surprise, it looks like Elsa was about to cry. "Those moments... I miss them all. Those were all the opposite of what I am right now." Elsa whispers, clenching her fist as if stopping her tears to fall out her eyes.

Jack's mind were now in chaos. What is he gonna do? Is it good to just leave? But it will be rude to her. Well, he's been rude to her everytime. But now's different! It's a serious situation where in a woman needs comfort and leaving will just make the situation worst. But if he comforts her... does that mean he acknowledge her as friend for now? Oh, no, no. He doesn't consider it. The Snow Queen will never be his friend. But... What now? What are you going to do, Jack Frost? Argh! Whatever! He pulled his hair out of frustration.

Hesitantly, he made his way closer to Elsa. This time, there's no distance between them. He's sitting right beside her and Elsa is taken in surprise because of this. "W-what are you-?"

"I-I know that I'm rude to you. I'll always be! Because I'm not really going to acknowledge you even as a friend. But for now... Since you're breaking down... Well you know... you may... ugh... lean on me. FOR NOW. Just for now! Because tomorrow, everything's back to normal! So don't get all your hopes up, Snow Queen." He said with a tone of arrogance and a bit of embarrassment. But nonetheless, Elsa felt her heart flutter in happiness. At least just for once, Jack is showing his good side on her. He has a heart, after all. Because of this, she never hesitates to lean on his shoulder, much closer to his face as she let him see her cries that were felt within her heart. Loneliest of the cries that Jack have never seen nor heard.

Jack's mind and feelings are in chaos once again. Elsa telling a story surely is a predicament to him. He's there, body frozen in its position as Elsa cries in his shoulders. He doesn't know what to do! Does he need to wrap his arm around her shoulder? Or rather rub her back to make her feel comfortable? And what is this feeling? This fluttering and warm feeling inside his chest. Also the urge to wrap his arms around her and tell her everything's going to be okay? WHAT ARE THESE?

Unconsciously, Jack's hand leads its way to Elsa's head, stroking the strands of her hair. Afterwards, he rested his hand on her shoulder as he pulled her even closer. It's warm. It's very warm. It made Jack lose his mind and just cared about her. He doesn't know what he's doing right now. He doesn't even know if he's still the Jack Frost he used to be in front of the Infamous Snow Queen. But right now, all he could do is watch and hear her mournful cries.

It's very warm. Well, ice melt when there is warmth. It may also melt his frozen heart.
