Authors note: I'm sorry if what's under Edd's hat disappoints you, it's just what I think is under there haha.
The scar was barely visible under Edd's thick black hair. If Kevin hadn't brushed his hand through his bangs it wouldn't have been seen at all. It wasn't gruesome or disgusting.
It was simply a scar that he had been hiding throughout his lifetime.
Kevin contemplated shaking the boy to wake him up but his sleeping face was too peaceful to disturb. The jock knew that when Double D wakes up he will immediately realize his hat is missing. Kevin couldn't quite understand why he needed the hat anyway; his scar was practically invisible.
"We should get him back to the beach house." Nazz was the one to suggest this while Nat offered to help carry Edd. Kevin shook his head and lifted Edd into his arms making his way towards the house. Ed and Eddy were still shook by their best friend's potential death.
He settled him in the one of the beds and covered him with blankets. Kneeling beside him he watched the weak boy for a moment. He gazed as Edd exhaled his tattered breath and sighed.
"What a pain. You really gave me a scare back there, you know?" He sat for a moment thinking sooner or later he would open his eyes, but he didn't wake. Not yet.
He joined the others in the main room. When asked how he was doing, he simply shook his head, no other questions were asked. He tried his best to have fun with the others playing various games and drinking cream soda, but he was worrying to much about Double D.
"Go check on him." Kevin had expected Nat but turned to see Eddy with an annoyed look on his face. He crossed his arms and tapped his foot lightly. "We're all worried you know, but I'm pretty sure that if sock head is awake the person he will want to see is you. So go."
Kevin nodded, with Eddy's approval he walked towards the room. When he opened the door he found a tired, anxious and confused Edd. "Kevin! M-my hat! Where is it?!"
The jock expected this. "Settle down, it's all right." He made his way towards Edd and found himself embracing him. Edd stiffened but soon relaxed. "You're such a dork. I-I was so worried." Edd wrapped his hands around Kevin to return the hug.
Suddenly he pushed him away. "I, uh, my hat! I need it back; I can't let anyone see me like this!" He quickly retreated under the covers. "Everyone saw. Didn't they?" Edd felt like he could die from the embarrassment.
"I don't get why you hide it. It's hardly noticeable." An anger unexpectedly filled Edd.
"Why do I hide it?! This hideous marking, It's an embarrassment." Edd breathed heavily and sighed. "Who could love someone with a scar like this?" He lifted his bangs and let them fall in front of his eyes like black feathers.
"What the hell are you talking about? That scar is a part of you. If no one can love you for that then they don't deserve you. If one insignificant little thing stops someone from loving you then they are all shitheads. Look at me."
Edd lifted his blue eyes to meet Kevin's.
"Scar or no scars you better damn believe I love you."
Kevin was surprised by his own words. 'When did I get all lovey dovey?' Edd smiled his gap showing between his two front teeth. "Thanks Kevin, I- I, well."
Edd blushed a bright red and continued with a unsteady voice. "I will devote myself to you."
"Like I said; such a dork."
There was a knock on the door that startled both boys. "It's Eddy! Open up shovel chin!"
"The doors open!" Kevin called out with much irritation. Eddy walked in with a smug smile on his face. Kevin was about to question him until he reviled his hands that held a soaking wet beanie.
"My hat! Oh, Eddy! You found it! How can I thank you enough!" Eddy chucked it at the black haired boy and smirked.
"No problem, it washed up on shore." Kevin looked at Eddy. Eddy was Edd's best friend alongside Ed; he would have to get along with them both. The jock could tell Eddy knew about his intentions, they would have to speak later.
"Thank you Eddy!" Edd slipped on the beanie and beamed brightly. "Much better!"
Eddy and Kevin decided it would be best to let Edd get some rest. Before Kevin left the room the weak boy stopped him.
"I haven't forgotten about you Kevin. Thank you. For saving my life."
