Pokémon is not mine
I was rudely awakened at 3:00 Am by the sound of four Dogs/Foxes barking and one growling Lizard. Then my Dad pounded on the door, and yelled into my room, "Hurry, get up! We want to go see Prof. Oak before your Mother wakes up!" How could we get from Hoenn to Kanto's Pallet Town before the sun rose? "I'm up!" I yelled to my Dad. I shot bolt upright and then remembered Flare normally sleeps on my forehead. "Wheee!" [WHY!] an indignant Flare cried to me as he was launched at the wall. Bones jumped up and caught Flare by the nape of the neck. [Absent minded as ever.] Sune yipped to the rest of the pack.
I got dressed in a hurry and then collected all my Pokémon into their pokeballs. "I'm ready." I told Mr. Sheldrake as I opened the door. "Alakazam!" My Dad informed me, holding out an old red and white pokeball. "So what? This Pokémon can teleport us all the way to Pallet Town?" I asked. "Yes, but we'll have to be quick if we don't want your mother to find out." Mr. Sheldrake whispered. He released the tall Psychic and informed it where we were going. I stared at the oddly shaped Telekinetic Fox. I had a sudden urge to yank on the thing dangling off his chin that looked like a mustache. "Jack, meet Tracy. Tracy, meet Jack. Jack doesn't remember you because he hit his head and became amnesiac." Mr. Sheldrake told his Pokémon. "Wait…Tracy? The Alakazam female has a mustache?" I questioned. The Alakazam looked me in the eye and I fell over sideways. Stupid Pokémon.
"Alright, we do this one at a time so that we don't exhaust Tracy too much for the return trip. Jack, you go first, hold her arm, and then let go when you land." Dad explained. I grabbed Tracy by the arm and her eyes glowed. Then I once again experienced the dimensional tunnel of light. This time there was only one picture though, professor Oak's Laboratory. We slammed into the picture and then we were standing on the edge of a forest. "Whoa!" I moaned softly. "You must let go now Jack." Tracy telepathically told me. I let go and Tracie's form flickered. She vanished. A rustle in the tress behind me caused me to spin on the spot. "Well, well, well. If it isn't Entei's champ. Jack was it?" A voice echoed out of the trees. "Who's there?" I yelled at the tree. "Don't you remember me? I wouldn't blame you if you didn't… Heh…" my stalker taunted. "How do you know I'm not the first Jack!" I yelled back. "Because…I was informed by the legendaries. Just like everyone else! Someone with a grudge against YOU told them that you weren't the first Jack." The voice taunted.
"If you don't come out this instant!" I yelled into the trees. Before I was even done talking the voice taunted me again. "Or what?" "I'll burn this section of the woods to the GROUND!" I yelled back. "I know you wouldn't, the legendaries would be so pissed… But, even if you did, you wouldn't find ME. Your Dad's Pokémon aren't the only ones with teleport. But I have to go any ways. Remember, the meeting is on August 21st, you're house! Expect company!" The voice called back.
There was a slight pop from behind me and I turned around to see Mr. Sheldrake phase into existence. I made a split second choice to not tell him about the foreboding voice. "Oh? I think we're a little ways off target. That's we're we wanted to be." Dad told me as he pointed all the way across the valley. "Then why are we here?" I asked "Any number of things. Interference, something forced us off track, simple miscalculation on Tracy's part (Tracy as an Alakazam, has IQ of about 300. No mistake there.), bad weather (Not a cloud in the sky.), or we never got close enough to the laboratory to warp directly there, which isn't really an option. There must be some powerful disturbances around this forest to pull Tracy off target. Perhaps we should take off, get away from here."
Mr. Sheldrake set off at a brisk pace. "Remember Son, this trip stays between everybody but your mother. Or Julia and Belle because they'd probably tell your Mother. In fact, don't tell Manson either, his ghost's might tell Julia. Just to mess with us. So, this is between you and me. Also, we should be home before the sun rises in Hoenn, so about when it's halfway up here in Kanto. Kanto's about two hours ahead of Hoenn." "Where'd Tracy go?" "I think she went home. Don't worry, I have her pokeball, so I can call her anytime.
Oak's lab was interesting. It took after the show, not the games. Which meant it was behind a fence and walls. It also had a windmill sticking out of it. "I called Professor Oak about a week ago, telling him we were coming. He'll be delighted to meet us, assuming he's not forgotten us." Mr. Sheldrake told me. We got to the gate to see it was open. "Hello down there!" Oak called to us from the balcony. Oak has the same voice he's got in the show too. Funny. "You two are the Sheldrake's? Rather hard to see you in the dark I'm afraid." Oak called again. "Yes Samuel, It's me Edgar." Dad called to the older man. "Come in, come in. The door is right there. Mind the first step, it's a bit wobbly."
The inside of the lab was filled with high tech white machinery. A counter aside from the work station housed about two hundred Pokedex's. (Seriously, he gives one to every kid he meets.) "So Jack, you don't remember me?" Oak asked me. "I know some things….. Like that you give out three starter Pokémon to kids starting their journey and give them all Pokedex's. I know that once or twice you ran out of the starters and gave away random Pokémon to kids." I told him. (I didn't dare tell him some of the common knowledge about him, like who he gave Pokémon or what the Pokémon was. That would be odd.) "Those are some odd things to remember after becoming amnesiac." "Well, it's not like I know why I remember what I do or don't remember." "That statement makes sense but then it makes no sense. Youths today." Oak mumbled. "Moving right along Sam, we're here to have you take a look at all Jack's Pokémon and to get Jack a Dex." Mr. Sheldrake reminded Oak.
"Right then. Jack, unleash your critters." "All of them at once?" "Yes, why not?" "They're rather rambunctious about this time of the morning. I haven't played with them yet." "I'm sure it's fine." Oak told me. I tossed all five of my poke balls up into the air. "Char!" [Oak!] "Woof!" [Who's this old fart?] [Play time! Let's play hide and seek!] And just like that, all four of my dogs took off and Frash attacked Oak with his claws. "Ow! Hey! Quit it out! Getting attacked is Birches' Job!" Oak cried indignantly as Frash shredded his lab coat. My Dad released Tracy who took one look at the situation and immobilized Frash. "Ugh. I guess that might have been my fault." Oak told me.
"Well, are we going to hunt down my dogs? It appears they've hidden." I asked Oak. I looked around. The lab was massive and filled with machinery, and there was dozens of places to hide for a small fox. "Tracy, can you drag them here?" Dad asked. "Ala." [I can find Ripper, and Bones] Two startled looking dogs floated to us while encased in a blue light. I recalled Frash and my dogs. "Sune, come!" I called into the lab. Sune jumped onto my head from somewhere up high, and I went down. "Owww…" Sune got off my chest and walked over to Tracy. "If you put out some kibble then Flare will come running." I told Oak. "I've got some around here somewhere…"
In the end I found Flare while looking for dog chow, so Oak got down to work examining my dogs. He checked their teeth, their nails, their fur, their weight…anything and everything. When he was done with that he gave them all some food in a massive bowl fit for a much larger Pokémon. Dad and I had to hold Frash still when Oak checked him over. "Why does he hate you so much old man?" I grunted to Oak while I held my little fire type still. "Most of the fire one's hate me right off the bat. Very few Charmanders have liked me. I guess it's the way I smell. The plants have usually gotten along better with me." (It's funny because 'Samuel' Oak has a Charmeleon in movie four: Celebi)
Finally he was done inspecting Frash. We confined him back into his pokeball. (When he broke out of that we wrapped the pokeball in Duct Tape) "Well Jack, all of your Pokémon are in tip top condition physically. It appears your Foxes are both very intelligent, Bones is cunning, and Ripper might be a little slow. (I had noticed this when he sat and barked at a rock.) Frash appears to be cunning and a little insane. That's usual for a Charmander that is soon to be a Charmeleon. I have to warn you, most Charmeleon's are strong and rebellious, sometimes downright dangerous. Make sure you don't get torched." Oak told me. "Is it usual for fire types to swim?" I asked Oak. "What? No. If they have the Flame Body ability that would most likely kill them. If you submerged a Charmander or Magmar it would kill them. Some fire types can swim though." He told me. "I taught my four dogs to swim." I told him. "Really now? That's impressive. Most dogs don't like swimming. How'd you get them into the water?" "I got in." "And that did it? That's just odd. Fire types avoid water like the plague for obvious reasons. That they would voluntarily swim is interesting. Ah well, it's time you get your Dex and be off."
Oak walked over to the table full of PokeDexes. "Would you like to choose, or do you care?" "What can you tell me?" "All of these Dex's are packed to the brim with info on every known Pokémon. You can have lots of info or very little depending on which Pokémon it is. Sometimes no data is known. If you point a Dex at a Pokémon it should be able to identify it. All Dex come equipped with learning Ai. Personality varies on who the base of the Ai was. They are all water proof and have a battery that will live longer than you. Charging them is not necessary although it's appreciated. Most are very quiet, talking only when you want it to. Occasionally you get one's who talk quite a lot. They have video recording and other important inbuilt tools. I could go on, but then the sun would come up." Oak rambled.
"An Ai is based off someone?" "Yes, that's how it works. Base an Ai of a computer and it only speaks binary." "Really?" I asked skeptically. "Really." He stared at me, stone-faced. I turned towards the table. None of them caught my eye. "How important is choosing the right Dex?" I asked Oak. "It depends on how dangerously you live I guess." Was all he could tell me. Champion of a legendary sounded pretty dangerous. "I little help Entei?" I mumbled to myself.
Funnily enough, I got help. Flare jumped off my head, landing right onto the table. "Whee!" He cried as he took off for the far end of the table. "Hey, wait up!" I cried. He took off down some stairs into the basement. "Oh? That's where I keep my developing photos!" Oak called. I charged down the stairs. "Don't turn on the lights!" Oak yelled from above. "Whee!" Flare called, leading me deeper into the dark. "Come on Flare, we don't have time for this. I need to choose a good Dex!" "Oh please. Those Dex up there are for regular heroes." I stopped dead in my tracks. "You. The voice from the forest?" "Yup. My Sponsor told me to come back. Entei is going to help you. See, the Dexs up stairs, on the table? Those go to regular trainers. Dex for hero's normally are given to the Hero as if it were the only one left by the professor. Those old men give the ones they detect talent in the best Pokedex. This may seem like a little thing, but Dex are the teachers and instructors. For us champion, we don't have the inherent talent that the professors look for. Not the kind they're looking for anyway." I spun in circles, trying to find the speaker in the dark basement.
"So the legend's make special Dex's for their champs, based off the legend themselves. It's all very complicated if you have more than one sponsor like me. My sponsors are the Lake Trio and Mew. My Dex is very talkative sometimes, and then switches personality depending on the situation. For you, who has only one sponsor, Entei will talk to you directly though your Dex. So you need a special Dex. I gave it to your Eevee. Find him, and you get your proof of being a champion of Entei." The voice explained. "So it's basically a special Pokedex? It doesn't seem like that would matter much!" I called out. "No, it does. Your Dex is the one who gives you instructions from your legendary." "Over here Jack!" Called a third voice. "Entei? Is that you?" I called back. "Yes! Over here!" "Actually it's Entei talking to you through your Dex, but whatever." The second voice told me.
Flare charged me, jumping onto my head. "Whee! Whee!" [What happened? Why is it dark? Last I remembered I was in my ball!] He asked me. "Oh? What's that over there?" I asked Flare. I reached over and grabbed it."It's me you blind human. It's Entei through your Dex! Now go upstairs and go home. The meeting has been declared two days from now!" Entei roared at me. "I…what meeting?" I asked Entei as I climbed back up the stairs. "Don't make me come there in person and slap you. The one Harold told you about! The meeting on the 21st at your house! That's your group from now on!" Entei yelled at me through the Dex. "Who's Harold?" I asked. "Harold is the voice you were just listening too! He's in your group!" Entei roared at me again. "Alright, jeez! We're upstairs now." "I can see that you moron!"
"Ah, Jack, you found Flare. Now hurry and pick a Dex." Dad told me. "I need to dust down there." Oak mumbled once he saw all the cobwebs on Flare. (Flare's riding on my head) "I found an awesome Dex down there. Fully functional. Did you know about it Oak?" "What? I don't keep any PokeDex down there. Never the less, if you want it, it's yours." "The sun's up here, so we've got to get home so your mother doesn't keep you from your journey until you're eighteen." Dad told me.
Tracy teleported us home. I went directly to my room and pulled my Dex out of my Pocket. It was Red like all the others, but a yellow flame shaped indent was directly below the blue "eye" on the Dex. "That's proof that this Dex is yours. It's special in that it draws power from you for as long you are my champion. It has far more capabilities than a regular Dex." Entei explained to me. "So, is this you talking into a walkie-talkie that I'm hearing, or is there an Ai based off you in here." I asked Entei. "It's both. I'm an Ai, but Entei hears everything we say to each other. Should need arrive he can get to you based off the location of this Dex. If someone tries to take the Dex from you, they won't be able to. I also provide protection to my owner." "Really? How so?" "I'm a legendary. I can protect you simply by being on you. Should a larger threat arise that doesn't require my presence, I can empower you for a brief period of time. If that should happen, you gather you Pokémon and run. The protection isn't strong, and it takes a lot of power from Me to do so." The Dex informed me. "Are you water proof?" "Yes." "That's good to know."
"So tell me about this meeting." I asked Entei. "Champions travel in small groups for their safety. That means at some point they have to all gather together and choose to travel together. Harold said the 21st of August, so three days from now. I would've thought the most important thing an amnesiac would want to know would be the date. Are you telling me you didn't know the date?" "Is there a mute button?" "No." "If I tossed this device as far as I could what would happen?" "It would teleport back to your pocket and set your pants on fire. I can do that you know."
(I'm sorry about the wait.)
(There will be four people in Jack's group. You know all of them. Start your bets.)
(Frash doesn't like Oak because Oak once stepped on his tail. That's reason enough for Frash to maul Oak in Frash's mind.)
(You are now reading this in my voice, even though you don't know what I sound like.)
(Jackal is now the play thing of many ghosts. At least he's always been very sane.)
(The fire dogs will swim because Jack told them to, and now his voice is backed by the authority of Entei. Not that the fire dogs knew that, they just did what he said because e told them to. They didn't notice the extra authority that forced them to swim.)
