Chapter 7

Later, Sid was walking down the hallway back to the area where the others were and appeared to be eating some kind of candy.

"Hey guys! Your never gonna believe what I found! Food!" Sid exclaimed. "It looks like bird dropping but it tastes delicious!"

Sid took one of the bits of candy, which were actually smarties and popped it into his mouth. He moaned happily.

"So, how's it going with the kid?" he asked.

"Well he's finally woken up." Shira answered.

"And he's ready to consider that we might be real." Diego added.

"And that we're not gonna eat him." Shira stated.

"Well that's even better!" Sid said, happily. "Oh this is the best day ever!"

"How about your Grandmother? Find her yet?" Diego questioned.

"Not yet, you know how she wanders the old girl…" Sid said.

"Yeah, well she'll turn up. Don't worry." Diego assured him. "Let's jet get to the kid."

Sid nodded and rushed over to where everyone else was talking to Miguel, who was sitting on the floor. Diego and Shira began to make their way over to him as well.

"Hi!" Sid said to Miguel, making him flinch. "You ok now?"

"Si. Gracias. I now believe that this is either a very long dream that I keep not waking up from… or it's the strangest thing that's ever happened to me." Miguel said.

"Welcome to our world." Manny muttered.

"More like welcome to mine, hermano." Miguel stated.

"Hey… you sound funny!" Crash remarked.

"Yeah!" Eddie added.

"That's because I'm Hispanic, Idiota's." Miguel told them, a bit annoyed.

"Hispanic?" Ellie echoed.

"Yeah, another race of humans, their all kind of them you know." Miguel explained.

"Really? You all look the same to us." Diego said.

"Not surprising…" Miguel muttered.

"What was that?" Manny asked.

"Nothing." Miguel quickly said. "So… are you guys ok? I mean you all were inside giant blocks of ice for some time."

"We're ok, considering…" Manny replied.

"But… I can just ask? What exactly is this place?" Louis questioned.

Miguel looked a bit fearful after he said this. He was mainly scared to tell them just how long they were all on ice and just how much the world had changed, knowing just how much they would react to this information.

He hesitated before responding. "You sure you want to know?" he asked.

"Why? Is it bad?" Peaches asked.

"You can say that, Bonita." Miguel stated.

"Well it can't be worse then what we've all imagined." Shira said.

"Actually… it is. Much, much, worse." Miguel told her. "So… you might want to sit down for this."

"Ok, sitting down, this is getting good!" Sid said, as he sat down and continued enjoying his treat. Everyone else did also.

"Now… how long do you think you were in those blocks of ice?" Miguel questioned.

Manny shrugged "I don't know. A couple minutes?"

"Well… there's no easy way to tell you this but… it's been a lot longer than a couple of minutes." Miguel told them.

"How long?" Ellie asked, nervously.

Miguel paused before answering. "Sixty-five million years…" he said. Everyone's jaws became slack as their eyes widen. Sid even dropped all the snacks he was carrying, some of them even fell out of his opened jaw.

"Uh… I'm sorry… did you just say… 'sixty-five million years'?" Louis questioned.

"Si. I did." Miguel nodded.

"But… how can that be?" Peaches wondered, shocked.

"Well you were frozen." Miguel pointed out.

"So your saying that we've been frozen for over sixty-five million years!?" Diego demanded.

"Si." Miguel nodded. "And the reason why I didn't think any of you were real is part of that fact."

"What do you mean?" Peaches asked, nervously.

"Well the thing is, the world changed a lot since you guys were away." Miguel started to explain to them. "Apart from humans taking over the planet, many species died out between now and the big ice age."

"Died out?" Diego inquired.

"Si, from what I can deduce you guys may be the last remaining remembers of your individual species on the planet." Miguel added.

"No…" Ellie breathed, horrified and shock.

"No way… your lying!" Manny stated, upset.

"Yeah… haha… very funny!" Sid said, believing it was a joke.

"Am I laughing?" Miguel questioned.

"Yeah, he's not laughing…" Eddie pointed out.

"I still don't believe him." Manny stubbornly said.

"Whose the idiot here? Just look outside!" Miguel told him gesturing to a far off window. Manny then began to walk towards the window, with some of the others following him close behind.

They looked out the window, and after getting over the initial surprise of the opening in the building being solid, they were even more shocked when they saw just what was outside.

"Whoa…" Diego said, speaking everyone's thoughts.

Outside they saw, streets, people walking by in various types of clothing, different types of technology and dozens of cars zooming down the street.

"Si… a lot has changed, guys." Miguel told them.

"Yeah, I'll say!" Crash exclaimed.

"So it is true… we really are the last of our kind…" Ellie muttered.

"I… I…" Manny tried to say but his words failed him. Peaches then started crying with Louis comforting her. Sad looks began to appear on everyone else's mugs as well as they lowered their heads and allowed themselves to feel the full impact of the situation, and that they truly were the last members of their kind on the very planet.

Miguel lowered his head also. "I'm sorry… I truly am so sorry…" he said to them quietly.

Manny turned away and began to walk over to a darker corner of the room. Miguel walked over to him.

"Uh… mister Manny? Are you ok?" he asked, concerned.

"I'm fine." The mammoth stated.

"You sure amigo? Cause…" Miguel began to say.

"I said I'm fine!" Manny repeated, only more firmer. It was clear by the look on his face that was he defiantly not fine. Miguel saw all the sad and upset looks on everyone else's faces and sighs.

"Man… I'm gonna need some help…" Miguel muttered to himself as he took out his phone and dialed a number.

Elsewhere, inside a dark room where a twenty-one old young man was sleeping a phone starts to ring. The man takes off the sheets and reveals himself to be a bulkier and more grown up version of Miguel. It is his older brother Jaime. He picks up the phone and answers it.

"Yes…?" he asked before he listened for a while, after which his eyes widen. "I'm sorry, you found what?"
