6. Strange Happenings
1937: Camp Half-Blood
Chris didn't know which was weirder. The strange girl that showed up or the fact that Roberto wasn't enraged that his team lost capture the flag.
Usually, when the Ares cabin lost Roberto would go on this sort of rampage and all the campers would have to avoid him for at least a week (especially members of the winning cabin). When he went on the temper-tantrum many campers compared him to the Minotaur, claiming that the two were actually distant cousins and that's why he has anger issues. Naturally, Roberto would then attempt to pulverize said camper into the ground but Chiron always knew where Roberto was during that week. But, Roberto didn't even seem the slightest bit angry that he lost. If anything, he seemed happy.
What was even more strange, Roberto didn't even show up for breakfast the next morning. His siblings said he wasn't feeling too well. But, let's be real here. Chris had seen the guy eat some pretty strange things (i.e. a peanut butter, salami, and marshmallow sandwich cover in mayonnaise and melted chocolate) and walk off like he hadn't eat that day. The guy had a stomach made of steel or something along those lines. He finally showed up when most of the cabin leaders went to check up on the girl.
That girl had run, quite literally, through capture the flag the night before. Effectively stoping the game (which was a first). She was chased by the biggest hellhound Chris had seen to date. As she ran, he couldn't help but notice how hair brownish-blackish hair flowed behind her as she ran. Okay, so maybe he was just the tinniest bit mesmerized by this girl. When the girl wasn't looking, she tripped over a fallen tree and the hellhound pounced(that's when it occurred to Chris that maybe he should try and kill the hellhound like the other campers). But just when Chris was going to charge in and help, the girl slipped... a fork? Well that's a new one. Anyway, she slipped the fork out of her pocket, then proceeded to kill the hellhound with one stab to the chest. The girl stood up, then passed out less than a second later. The medics rushed her to the infirmary, where she still lay in a bed asleep.
The only cabin consulars that showed up were: Emily Montgomery (Demeter), Roberto Grazia (Ares), Cassandra Clarke (Aphrodite), Nancy Daught (Hephaestus), Alex Pennington (Apollo), and himself (since Mark was busy). All the other consulars were busy at the moment, so they will check on her later. They stood outside the infirmary waiting in Chiron to show up. Alex told them how she was doing and what he and his team of medics noticed about her.
"Well, for a girl on the run she didn't looked that malnourished. Or like she had been living on the woods for her life. I can't tell who her parent is, but she's obviously a demigod. And my guess would be a powerful one at that." Alex told everyone.
"But if she's been on the run, shouldn't she be at least a lttile malnourished?" Emily questioned.
"That's the thing Emily, she honestly looks as healthy and you and me. Go and see for yourself," Alex replied. Emily immediately went through the doors, everyone else followed a beat later. The first thing the group noticed was the Chiron was already at the girl's bedside and that she looked peaceful. Her bed was in the right back most corner of the infirmary. The group crowed around the bed, Chiron directly in front of it with Cassandra and Roberto to his left. Sitting on the bed to the left of the girl was Nancy, Alex, and Emily. Alex slung his arm around Emily and she scowled in response but left his arm around her. Chris stood next to Emily and crossed his arms so they were not hanging loose (the temptation to swing them was great). The girl started twitching in her sleep but other wise still looked peaceful.
All of a sudden, the girls eyes snapped open and sat straight up on the bed. It wasn't like an eyes flattering open and slowly sitting up. No, it was more like BOOM she is awake and sitting up. All the group could do was stare at her in amazement. She stared at Chiron like he was a ghost until Alex cleared his throat and said, "Well it's about time you woke up!" The girl looked like she going to kill Alex. The everyone started talking in Ancient Greek, Chris didn't pay attention to the conversation all around him. He was too busy trying to figure anything out about the girl. She slowly looked around and analyzed the group. Until she looked at Chris, then she just flat out stared at him. She opened her mouth to say something, but her voice failed her, she just sat there opening and closing her mouth much like a fish. Her face then flushed bright red. Chris couldn't help but chuckle at her, which was a bad move on his part for she then sent a death glare at him. Naturally, Chris raised his arms in mock surrender.
"Whoa there, feisty pants!" Alex remarked, "You're dehydrated and lacking some major sleep. So how about you stop trying to kill Chris with that glare of yours and go back to sleep." The girl stopped glaring at Chris and a look if pure horror replaced it. Everyone in the room exchanged looks of concern. Something bad obviously happened to the girl. "Hey, it's okay! Sleep is good and you won't get hurt, I promise that. " Alex reassured her. She looked like she was having an internal debate when Alex put some sleeping medication into her bloodstream via needle. She soon blacked out after that.
"Well that was..," Nancy was at a loss for words.
"Different? Unusual?" Emily supplied.
"Both" replied Nancy.
"But did you guys notice her outfit? Seriously, who would wear that?!" Cassandra exclaimed.
"Cassandra, now is not the time to comment on other's clothing choices. I've told you there is a time and a place. This is neither the time nor the place," Chiron sighed.
"One thing still bothers me," Roberto spoke up for the first time all day. Everybody looked at him expectantly, "Why did she stare at Chris the longest?" It was Chris' turn for everyone to stare at him. He was thinking that exact question, along with what was the look of recognition she gave him lat night for? He didn't have an answer for either question so he shrugged his shoulders in response. One thing was for sure, he needed answers.
And soon.
