I am very sorry to everyone (no matter how few) that has enjoyed this story and has been waiting for an update. It has been several months since the last update and I'm truly sorry. Life (and heaps of algebra homework) got in the way.
Blaze was filled with a burning rage that heated the air with magic. J'zera, a Khajiit illusionist, and Lana, a Nord healer, two of the highest ranking mages left alive walked over.
"So what is your first order Archmage Blaze?" Lana asked.
"First I need to know who is here." Blaze said standing up from his kneel next to the former Archmage.
"We have around 40 living students, Lana and I, and the illusion teacher Jovaba." J'zera responded.
"Go get Jovaba." Blaze commanded.
Lana returned moments later with Jovaba a white furred female Khajiit.
"Now J'zera, your job is to go fetch Reuben from the Hall of Attainment." Blaze said.
"As you wish sir." J'zera responded dutifully.
"Lana I need you to find Rynaz in the midden." Blaze commanded.
"Gladly." Lana said with a smile.
"Jovaba you watch the novices, make them invisible if you can." Blaze said.
"I will, but if you don't mind my asking what will you do?" Jovaba asked.
"As soon as Rynaz and Reuben and anyone else equipped for battle gets to the courtyard, I will enact my plan that will make the Thalmor fear the college." Blaze said.
A few hours later the mages were gathered in the courtyard ready to fight.
"Now for those who don't know, I was just named Archmage, Barren is dead, and the Thalmor are regrouping outside as we speak." Blaze said, rallying his magical troops.
"So what do we do?" Rynaz asked.
"First of all I need destruction mages and lower level conjurers with bound bows on the walls picking them off." Blaze shouted.
Ralis and Reuben walked to the top of the walls with the mages.
"Bjorn, Rynaz and any spellswords stay in the courtyard to use swords as backup in case they get past the firing line." Blaze commanded.
They took their positions behind the cover of the wall.
"Now high level conjurers and illusionists come with me." Blaze commanded.
Blaze, J'zera, and their mages went inside of the hall of the elements.
Six hours later the Thalmor charged the college in a force.
They had received backup and now were up to 5000 troops.
The mages on the wall took down many troops, but they still got into the courtyard and now were met with blades.
Each side lost men, the college was down to a dwindling 50, the Thalmor were down to 1000.
Then an Earth shaking roar rang out through the college.
"What in Oblivion was- a Thalmor said before being zapped with lightning.
Then a Dragon as black as Oblivion and bigger than anything the warriors ever saw flew over the college.
They had seen dragons before, having lived through the Dragon Crisis, but this one was around seven times the size of any previously encountered.
The Thalmor turned and started firing magic and arrows at the dragon, but no arrows seemed to hit it and as soon as any stopped paying attention the mages cut them down.
When around 500 Thalmor remained Cyraust teleported to the center of battle with 20 elite Thalmor soldiers and turned the tide of battle, they cut down the mages quickly and efficiently.
Then the dragon flew over again and more distracted soldiers were cut down including elites.
"This is why so many have died? You weak minded fools!" Cyraust shouted.
He cast a cloak over his soldiers that made the dragon flicker in their eyes.
"It is an illusion you idiots!" Cyraust shouted.
"So you finally realize," Blaze said letting his invisibility spell dissipate "Cyraust I just want this fighting over, so… I challenge you to a magical dual."
The crowd ceased fighting and turned towards the two leaders.
The magic dual was an honor bound one on one conflict and if either side disobeys the stipulations of the winning side they are doomed to Oblivion, and slain by an ancient spell.
"I accept the challenge." Cyraust said.
He and Blaze casted the ancient spell known as the honor keeper, a curse on the losing side, that will kill them if they disobey.
"So what are the terms?" Blaze questioned.
"If I win the college is disbanded forever." Cyraust said.
"And when I win your troops can never harm another college student again." Blaze said.
"Then let us fight." Cyraust stated.
The crowd of both mages and Thalmor gathered around the two, as they took their places with forty feet between them.
Cyraust shot five ice spikes only to have them melted by a flame cloak forming around Blaze.
Blaze shot firebolt after firebolt only hitting a greater ward everytime.
They traded spell after spell with neither gaining the advantage.
Then a flames spell from Blaze met a frostbite spell from Cyraust.
The spells were pushing against each other, the advantage going back and forth.
The casters moved closer to each other until there was only two feet between them.
Blaze in one solid motion broke the spell connection, punched Cyraust to the ground, and pulled his sword out pinning it next to Cyraust's neck.
"You know how this has to end." Blaze stated.
"Okay I lose, just make it quick." Cyraust said.
Blaze with a solid swing removed the Altmer's head from his shoulders.
He held up the head in triumph when an elven arrow pierced his armor impaling his heart, fatally wounding him, but not killing instantly.
"You should have chosen you words more carefully lizard," the Thalmor archer said, "you said we can't harm the students, and last time I checked you are not a student."
Then 40 Dremora appeared behind the crowd, swords raised, and killed all of the remaining Thalmor.
"I always have an ace in the hole." Blaze choked out before coughing up some blood.
The conjurers dispelled the Dremora when the Thalmor laid dead.
Rynaz, Lana, and Reuben gathered around the bleeding, dying Archmage.
"Lana can you heal him?" Rynaz asked already knowing the answer.
"I'm sorry, I can't." Lana said.
"Rynaz you have served well as master wizard and since it is your dream I think you now deserve the title of Archmage." Blaze stated with as much strength as he could.
"Actually I have to decline," Rynaz responded, "I am leaving the college, I have had enough action for one lifetime, and I have asked Lana to come with me and get married." Rynaz then pointed to the amulet of Mara he was now wearing.
"Well I'm sorry I have to miss your wedding," Blaze said, "Reuben if Rynaz is leaving then you are the best choice by far, I know it wasn't your dream, but you deserve to be Archmage."
"It would be an honor." Reuben stated.
"Now I had a long day and as you said before Rynaz everyone needs rest, so I'm going to sleep right now." Blaze said, then his eyes shut and his breathing stopped.
Reuben turned to the mages and shouted, "I am the new Archmage and my first command is we need to clean up and bury our dead."
He then turned to Rynaz and Lana and said "I hope you two have a nice life and I hope we meet again someday."
"Oh, I think we will," Rynaz said, "And I think you will be a great Archmage."
"Could you help me with Blaze before you go?" Reuben said.
"Of course I will Archmage Reuben." Rynaz replied.
The two friends picked up Blaze and carried him inside, sad at what happened, but glad it was over.
Well there it is, the war is over and now I can move on to another story when I get the time. Thank you to anyone who reads, reviews, or favorites this story. I have some other ideas I am ready to write about and any and all support is welcome. Thank you for reading.
