A/N: I actually kind of liked this chapter even though it was Draco/Hermione and not Fred/Hermione. I'm sure this was written for one of the challenges on HPFC, but I'm not sure which anymore. Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. JK Rowling does.
Hermione shivered as she walked along the sidewalk of a cemetery near her house. She put her hand in her pocket and felt her wand there and was comforted by it.
Why had Draco picked the creepy cemetery to meet? Their parents didn't approve of their friendship, and neither did their friends so they had kept it a secret. Somewhere along the way Hermione's feelings toward him had changed.
She opened the door to the cemetery and jumped when it squeaked. Ok, it was time to keep her wand out, she thought to herself. She peered around the dark graveyard. She looked around some trees and headstones, but she still didn't see Draco. Her stomach cringed as the graveyard continued to grow eerily darker.
"Draco?" she hardly dared to call out his name. She didn't want to wake any spirits or zombies that could be lurking. "Draco!" She half whispered, half shouted his name. She folded her arms protectively as she looked around. "Why'd you have to pick the creepy cemetery? You know I hate these-"
A figure leaped off a tombstone and Hermione screamed and started to hit her attacker. A hand caught her hand and stopped her from hitting them. "Geez, Granger it's only me. I just couldn't resist scaring you a little. You shouldn't have been scared though…aren't you supposed to be the big, brave Gryffindor?"
Hermione took a deep, shaky breath when she saw Draco standing there. "Merlin! Don't do that… you know I hate this cemetery at night."
"Why? You know I'd protect you from anything, right?"
She looked up into his eyes. "Yes," she said slowly. The two had become friends ever since he comforted her after she saw Ron and Lavender kissing back at the party in the Gryffindor common room.
Draco had even been Hermione's date to Slughorn's Christmas party, though she had asked him to be her date because she knew he would make Ron the angriest.
Somehow, something between them had changed. She looked down and saw that he was still holding her hand. She thought that would make her cringe, but she liked the feeling of his hand being in hers. She can't be falling for him, Hermione thought frantically to herself.
"So how come you didn't go to the Weasley's for Christmas this year?" Draco finally asked her.
"I'm still mad at Ron," she pointed out, narrowing her eyes at his name. "And he isn't too happy about us…"
"I'm not too happy with him either. He's being a jerk to you, and I don't like it."
"Ron and I always fight," Hermione argued, feeling suddenly defensive.
"That doesn't mean it is right," Draco tossed back. He took a step back and sighed. "I don't want to fight with you," he said. "You're the only thing that matters in my world now."
Hermione's heart flipped when she heard those words, though she couldn't help but have mixed feelings about them. "I'm not…supposed to be the only thing that matters to you. We're supposed to be just friends."
"Who said we weren't?" Draco challenged her.
Her eyes widened and she could feel her cheeks flush. She didn't dare move away from him though. She could feel herself being drawn to him, like a magnet. Why was she feeling this way? "Me," she whispered as she pulled him close to her.
"Granger, what are you doing?" Hermione was glad to hear that Draco didn't sound mortified at their closeness.
"Proving how brave I am," she murmured before she stood on her toes and kiss him.
