Hey guys, so since updating I have had 2 reviews and people keep asking me to update. It is so close to summer now I can almost taste it! In the summer I will be in many different places and I don't know whether I can keep updating! I will try as hard as I can but I will be going to America and France! So excited for that! Anyway, here is the start of Chapter 7 and I hope you enjoy it
"Fine!" I cried through the buzz of wings and stares of onlookers. "I will complete your tasks, if it will give me a better chance of survival, I will die either way but at least I have a chance if I fight for it!" Before disappearing, my dad always said that if anything was easy then it wasn't worth doing. I knew that if the reward was high then the tasks would be extremely hard… we were talking about my life! The tasks could be fatal.
"Well then , you have chosen your fate Meghan Chase, you will fight. But, before we start I must ask you to sign this contract. From out of nowhere, a large roll of parchment was presented to me but four youthful looking creatures, each holding a corner of the rough and aged document. They were followed by another who was carrying a quill… but there was no ink.
"We must ask you to sign this," they proclaimed. The God carrying the quill jabbed the sharp nib into my forearm, drawing blood. Stifling a shriek, I took the quill from him and signed, in my own blood.
"Perfect," exclaimed a moustached creature with a puffed out chest. "If you are wondering the reason as to why you had to sign with your own blood, it is to make sure that you are sincere with your agreement that you will not escape or cheat during the tasks, if you do then the document will immediately set alight… as will you," I was ever so slightly calmer until the last bit. I could die if I cheat or run away, well I guess I will have to rely on luck to get my way through.
"Have we the other prisoners?" questioned one; he was dressed in an elegant robe, and I think part of the high council.
"Yes, all prisoners ready and prepared for it," replied another a little too enthusiastically for my liking.
"Then bring them out," replied the robed council member.
Chains echoed through the cave and the bright colours of the sprites dulled into a disgusting rainbow of off shades. Three figures emerged from the back of a cave and into the room where I was held.
"Now we have out four competitors, let us begin," Another whirlwind of colour blurred my vision and made me feel very dizzy, suddenly I was in an arena... a little like the ones I had seen in my history textbooks about Ancient Rome. Around the edge and in stands were the bright colours of the sprites, but they were no longer sprites, they looked almost human. Apart from there spiked teeth and watery reddish yellow eyes. Ten figures dressed in purple robes stood and waved for silence.
"Prisoners, you are now in contest with eachother for your lives… you have three tests in which you will be against each other. We romans love a good blood sport so please… put on a good show," He winked at me and I wrinkled my nose in disgust. Looking at my competitors I saw how hard this was going to be. All were magical beings, with what looked like many years of training. A mean looking minotaur stood to my right, a tough contender; Next to him was a gleeful looking satyr, ready for the raping of me probably; on the far right was a creature I had never seen before. A lion's head, a snake head and a goat head all of whose eyes were the colour of burning embers, their teeth were black and each had its own poisonous looking forked tongue that kept slipping in and out of closed lips, it had the body of a huge panther and had a tail of what looked like a dragon… I was just a girl, if there were any bets, I would be voted first to go.
The chains around our feet were released and the sore red skin around the other creatures showed their first weakness, they all looked malnourished, behind their fight were the weaknesses that I would find and use against them. It didn't sound like me but I wanted to live.
"A reminder of why you are all here," came a voice booming from one of the stands. Four scrolls appeared and rolled by themselves to settle against podiums set out for them. I could see mine was opposite to where I was standing and assumed the same of everyone else. They were all human looking signatures, the squiggly line you did as a child, and then there was a paw print for the 'thing' on the far side.
"Death(Latin), Pain(latin, merciless (latin), and Meghan. You are fighting for your lives. The first test is to fight one of our very own gladiators!" Exclaimed the commentator, so, death was the Monster; Pain was the Satyr, and merciless was the Minotaur. "You will each fight in turn," the commentator continued "and as we are a courteous people… ladies first," a roar went up from the crowd as the 'entertainment' began. I was first…
We were all shipped away into a waiting area and kitted out with minimal armour and a small shield… I was barely covered let alone protected.
"Enjoy," jeered a team member as I walked to the waiting area. I heard the distant cheer of the crowd as the commentator finished his speech and the wooden gate was lifted. I was pushed into the arena and I squinted as my eyes adjusted to the light. I saw the dark, muscular figure of my opponent. He had a net and a spear. I looked at my tiny knife and gulped down a scream. It was inevitable… I was going to die.
Another cliff hanger! Oh I am mean, I hoped that you liked the chapter… reviews please? I will try and right the next chapter soon, but I need to think of the other two tests. I already know what is going to happen in these fights though ;) I hope you don't mind the Roman theme, it seemed like an alright time frame to pick.
See ya soon readers!
