It is complete despair. In the embodiment of a young boy named Izaya Orihara. Shizuo Heiwajima frets as he see the being move and sound like Izaya… which caused him to reject him loudly. He then runs off to escape only to earn the wrath of the mother mystery, Kurayami Mama.
Soon, everyone else inside the building has chased after him, using their own dark powers to make him despair more. However, he feels still saved by the boy he rebuked for being non-human… losing consciousness in his arms while Izaya screams out for his name.
After a week of hospitalization, the blond resumes back to work, thinking about what Shingen told him once. However, Shinra comes out of nowhere and begins attacking the teacher despite being at the new building. The boy squashed another teacher dead and he aims for Shizuo next.
Being housed inside the defenseless closet, he meets an owner of bloody hands… and more things come heading his way. More danger so to speak.

"Izaya… please help me… I'm so sorry…" The teacher continues to break but then a hand covers his mouth. He twitches and then he freezes yet again. Is he wrong? Is it not Izaya? Then who is this? Who is this child inside the closet with bloodied hands? His eyes tremble badly as his breath hitches. He wants to make a sound… but there's none to do. Should he squeak? Should he scream? But Shinra might hear him…
The said kid grins as he calls around the hallway, "Heiwajima-sensei! Come out, come out, wherever you are! I am not fond of hide-and-seek!" He then starts to run impatient and kicks at the wall and stomps at the floor, causing small tremors and big dents. The teacher shakes in his place as the kid gets nearer and nearer towards him…
"S-Shinra-kun? Is that you?" The blond's eyes widen as he hears a familiar voice and he closes his eyes. The kid then twitches and he assumes his normal voice, "Smith-sensei! Have you seen Heiwajima-sensei!?" The woman hums and then she shakes her head, "No— wait a minute, why are you drenched in blood!? Oh, my God! Did something happen!?" Running footsteps echo around and sounds of Emillia cooing to the other kid.
No… Smith-sensei… don't get near… The teacher inside the closet is able to see the happenings with the holes on the door. Emillia is now wiping Shinra's face and arms clean… "Where'd you get all that, young boy? And where are your shoes?" The kid is smiling… but that grin traverses into something maniacal more and more. Shizuo trembled more… but he shouldn't show up or he's killed. Shinra then licks his lips and speaks in a different manner, "Sensei, have you ever lost a leg?"
Shizuo tries to burst open the closet but the bloody hands hold him down. The female teacher then stares at him and she speaks, "Shinra. Did Shizuo do something to anyone of you?" What? The kid grins bigger and begins jumping at his spot, not causing tremors unlike earlier, "Maybe yes, maybe no. Either way, I want him dead." The female teacher hums and then she patted his head, "What if someone catches you, dear? You shouldn't act so careless." The boy stops and then he grabs her wrist, "Don't tell me what I should do to eat."
"Let me go, boy." Emillia frowns at him and then another voice comes around, "Hm? Did I just disrupt an incoming act of child abuse?" They both look at her and then Shinra shrieks to hide behind Emillia. It is Namie and then she walks towards them, "Or am I the one to do it? I wonder." The female teacher then scoops the kid up and they run off away from the hallway. The bloody hands then retreat from the blond's face and the door opens wide. Shizuo falls off balance and he ends up getting caught by Namie.
"Heiwajima-sensei…" She mentions his name and then Shizuo breaks free and crawls away from her. The nurse smiles and then she stares at him… yet voices reach his mind. "Sensei, you better stop. There are people looking… they will be very convinced you're crazy." The blond turns behind him and some teachers are there, peeping from the corner. He then feels a hand hold his wrist and pulls him up. His wary eyes look at Namie and she smiles, "Sensei, your leg is bleeding. What have you been doing, seriously?"
He gets up but swats her hand away after that, "N-No need. I'm good…" He then slowly walks away from her, even to the extent of dragging his other leg while using the walls as a stand. The crutch has been lost and now he presses himself against the wall for support. The other teachers stare at him for the strange actions and blood all over his face but he can only ignore them. They do not know of the mysteries' human personifications… and they have not seen them kill in cold blood.
His head then hangs as he stops traversing the hallway with difficulties. He crashes down to the floor again and rests for all the pain he has been enduring all along. He covers his eyes with an arm… and starts to cry once more. Perhaps he is just imagining about Izaya all along. The kid will always be lost and he will never find a way to apologize. He has kicked the little kid at his face… literally and figuratively. Even though he loves him very much.
"Heiwajima-sensei…" A voice disrupts his thinking and then he lifts his face to see a cute boy in front of him. He looks like a second grader and his timid-looking face bears no harm. He then kneels down and he hugs the blonde teacher, "Sensei… please stop crying." He then holds the blond's face and smiles at him like a very innocent child, "Please be happy again…"

Chapter 7: In the End, We're all the Same
…
The blond stares at the kid yet he does not dare whisper a word. The second-grader then twitches and pulls on his hand, as if trying to make him stand, "Heiwajima-sensei, please get up." The man does what he is told and he continues walking slowly to a place where the second-grader tries to take him. Shizuo then witnesses a small fight between children in a class— a young blonde boy getting beaten up by the others.
He is well aware of the behavior of the third-graders… but to seriously see second-graders beat someone up? He then frowns and speaks in yet his normal voice, "Oi, what are you doing?" The pupils gasp and they run away from the incoming teacher. The injured teacher then attends to the kid and asks, "Can you stand?" The young boy then turns to him and he twitches, "…Mikado-kun?"
Shizuo twitches at the face the other has made and then turns to the other child. The brunet second-grader who called him then runs off and then the boy calls out again, "Oi! Mikado-kun!" He tries to get up but his bruised waist makes it impossible for him to run after. The blonde teacher then helps him up… being forced to go to the Nurse room where Namie should be.
Upon reaching the Nurse room, the school nurse has only bothered to talk to the boy and treated him like how she should. This makes the other human sigh in relief… until Namie starts talking to him again, "It's quite hard to run away, isn't it, Heiwajima-sensei?"
"…I won't let you…" Those are the only words that come out of the teacher's mouth. It will be very troublesome if he continues and the child overhears them. The nurse smirks in fascination and she pats the child's head, "Masaomi-kun, are you feeling better now?" The blonde boy nods and then he casually gets off the chair and walks out of the Nurse room. The two adults watch him and then Shizuo leaves as he disappears on sight, "Please don't involve the other students or teachers of the school."
"Impossible. Judging the way things go now."
The blonde teacher hurriedly leaves after the short exchange of words. He follows the boy and then he asks as Masaomi starts looking around, "Masaomi-kun, who—?" The blonde boy turns to him and bows down, "Thank you, Sensei. But I don't want your help again." The said boy then takes off towards a direction… leaving Shizuo frowning, "Children these days…"
He then sighs and walks towards the shoe lockers. The other students go to him and show their concern and worry about their teacher. He smiles and chuckles at them, giving each other a pat to their heads. Passing them by now, the teacher motions towards the gates… only to stare back at the old building. Gulping down and risking everything, he ventures into the cursed premises of Mou Meso.
It was only five days… but there are already necessary changes in the entrance of the building. The steel bar gates are locked and barricaded from inside, the locks new and hard to just wreck open. He then picks up the big lock and whispers, "Why in the world did they—?"
Two hands come from the dark void and they cup the teacher's between them. Those are hands of a fair maiden… but they make Shizuo freeze the most. Even from the hands, he can tell… it is another mystery… it IS Kurayami Mama. With the same hands she held him that day, she is holding the human again. With such masking gentleness, she holds on him and she whispers, "What are you doing in here?"
The man is freezing… yet he takes a deep breath, "…Izaya… I want to see Izaya." The hands start to grasp him tighter, "And if he doesn't want to see you?" Shizuo closes his eyes, "I can understand. I just… wanted to talk to him." The hands then pull him towards the dark— but he consequently hits the steel bars lightly. He grasps at one bar and tries to pull his hand back but the woman won't let him go, "Sonohara-san!"
The hands stop pulling and let the hand motion to get recalled by the owner. But they pull on him again, slamming him against the gates harder. He groans and tries to pull back but the woman still doesn't let go. He pulls harder as the woman does… only for her to suddenly let go. The teacher stumbles down and the fall makes him hold his head in slight dizziness. He looks at the steel gates… only to see Sonohara holding at the bars with her face in between them…
He tries to get up with his eyes locked at the disturbing figure. The girl pulls back from the gates only to bear her long claws of nails. Her beautiful face then turns into the scary one she used to sport— before walking through the steel gates. Shizuo's eyes grow bigger as he watches her get away from the bars… and a sudden urge prompts him to run.
He tries but she is able to catch him with her nails hooking him by his cast, making him fall face-down at the floor. The mother then walks to him and sits on him, retracting her claws to short pointed nails, "I can't see it. I can't see why Izaya likes you… why those children used to like you." The teacher struggles to crawl away but he isn't moving from his spot. The woman then rakes her hands across his soft hair, "You must possess something very likeable… but I think you have lost that favorable relationship with them when you rejected my little boy…"
Shizuo stops moving and his hands begin clawing the floor. She's right… he has already rejected the poor boy upon screaming at his pure form. The sweet child he adores so much turns out to be a monster. He is containing his sobbing as she continues to rakes her hands on his locks… only to stop and get off. The man shoots up and finds no Mother around… but fading words written in blood at the wall.
'It's time for you to keep away, Shizuo Heiwajima.'

…
The next day continues without the teacher meeting anything non-human. The teachers are now on their way home and so are the remaining students. The blonde teacher hasn't bumped into either Emillia or Shingen as well. Without Izaya… everything seemed to be so lonely for him. He stands at the hallway outside his homeroom, imagining Izaya cleaning the room as how he remembers. He remembers the child saying "Shizu-chan! You came!" while wearing the sweetest smile he only shows to him.
Tears begin to form at the corner of his eyes as he remembers more of how they used to spend their time together… cleaning that small homeroom. He then sniffs and wipes his face with his free hand. He walks in the room and finds no one cleaning… all the small litters and dusts left untouched. He runs his hand at the window sill and finds how dirty everything is. "They hadn't been cleaning thoroughly… since I was out."
He then places his things at the teacher's table's compartment and walks towards the janitor's closet. He doesn't know what he ended up doing because of his depression and loneliness. Even with injuries, he cleans the room like how he used to do it with his beloved student. Izaya isn't there with him… but every wipe at the dirty floor reminds him of his laughter, his chuckling, and his…
'I love you, Sensei.'
Tears finally fall of his eyes and he ends up leaning on his arm, crying alone in that small room. It could be true that Izaya just wanted to eat him all along… but his disappearance has dug such a big hole in the teacher's heart. The love the child gave him is something he can't simply dispose… as well as that love he accumulated for the young boy. He then sits up with the tears staining his handsome face…
"Izaya… I'm so sorry…"
TACK! He twitches as he hears a faint hit on a nearby glass window. He clears his face and looks out the window… only to see the same blonde boy yesterday at the grounds. He is throwing stones at the barred windows of the old building… desperately trying to get someone's attention. The teacher quickly finishes cleaning both the room and his face before going to the blonde young boy.
After some more minutes, he arrives at where the boy is— still throwing stones at the barred windows. He then goes to him, "Oi, what are you doing?" The boy twitches and then he looks away, "Sensei." Shizuo looks up at the same window and he then looks back at the boy, "The windows are barred. The stones won't go through no matter how hard you throw." The boy twitches and he drops the rest of the stones…
"Why are you throwing stones at it anyway?" The boy then dares to walk away again but the teacher is able to take a hold on his arm. The boy named Masaomi murmurs, "Sorry, Sensei. I always get told by the other senseis. I'll stop doing that." The teacher asks again, though— trying to remember his name along the way, "Why are you throwing stones, Ma… a, what's your name again?"
The student turns to him and then the teacher let goes. "Masaomi Kida from Class 2, Grade 2. Nothing. It's none of Sensei's business." Shizuo frowns at him and he looks back at the window, "What would you do if the stone did get in?" The kid the twitches and he whispers…
"Tell him to open the gate… or a window on the first floor."
"…Him who?"
"…Mikado-kun."
Shizuo twitches and then he thinks about the familiar name. Mikado-kun? The boy then huffs as he turns away, "I'm going home, Sensei." He grasps at the strap of his sling bag before walking away. The teacher then rests his eyes again at the building's window until… "MIKADO-KUN!" The blonde man then flings to the direction where Masaomi runs off… seeing a crowd of students afar.
He then goes to where the crowd is… and where Masaomi grabs one to push away from the center of the circle. The other children then also start hitting the blond. The teacher yells at them again and then supposed leader then snickers at his fellows. They just keep on hitting Masaomi until Shizuo gets near enough at them, "Hey! Break off!"
The leader then kicks even the teacher and they somehow clearly take advantage of the teacher's injury. Shizuo shields himself with his arms from their petty kicks… his view still on the boy plopped on the ground. It isn't Masaomi… it is the innocent-looking second-grader yesterday. Is that… Mikado-kun?
"Hahah! Hahah! Weak teacher!" The leader teases the teacher who doesn't fight back… trying to hit him harder. Shizuo then frowns not because of the kicking but the scene before him. As the bad kids flock around him, Masaomi is quietly trying to make the other boy respond. He is beaten up so bad and he won't even move.
'Mikado-kun! Mikado-kun!' The teacher keeps on reading the blonde boy's lips as he calls out to the other. The teacher then grows tired and grabs a leg of the leader, "This is your first and last warning. Don't make me hit you." His tone has changed into something very mad and dangerous. The kids shudder at the view of his face and then they run away upon the release of the leader's leg.
Shizuo dusts himself and gets up to go to the boys, "Masaomi-kun." The blonde boy looks at him and then back to the brunet, "Mikado-kun…" The brunet then moves upon Shizuo's touch on his head… holding at his sore parts. Mikado then starts sobbing in pain while curling up in fright. The teacher twitches at the sound the boy is making…
His voice. His sobbing. His whimpers. His actions. It all comes together. 'Heiwajima-sensei! Please wake up!'
Masaomi then holds the brunet's shoulder and shakes him a little, "Mikado-kun." The brunet now straightens and looks at the other boy with tears in his eyes, "Masaomi-kun." The small hands that used to hold his sore parts choose to cup at the blonde boy's face, "Huh? Why are you… hurt, too?" The blonde boy blushes and looks away, "Baka! You think I won't help you!?"
"…Sorry…" Mikado apologizes and then he turns to Shizuo, "Heiwajima-sensei! Why is Heiwajima-sensei—?" The brunet is supposed to hold the teacher as well but then he twitches. His face gets filled with fright again and he gets up before running away. Masaomi yells out for his name but then the boy disappears from sight. They try to run after him but all they hear is a loud smash of a metal gate.
They reach the barricaded entrance and then Masaomi holds on the bars, "Mikado-kun! Mikado-kun! OI!"
The teacher twitches and then he touches the boy's shoulder. Masaomi then puffs in sadness and walks away as well as Shizuo does. He then remembers to come back to the homeroom to get his things. But after excusing himself from the boy, Masaomi takes a hold on his shirt, "Sensei." He turns to the boy and he speaks with his head down, "Can… Can I talk to Sensei?"
"Sure. What is it about, Masaomi-kun?" Shizuo answers as they walk back towards the homeroom. "Heiwajima-sensei… is the homeroom teacher of that… demon child, right?" Shizuo twitches and then he remembers that Izaya has that kind of name. And to think about it, it is almost true since he is an abomination— no, he isn't. Izaya isn't.
"Y-Yes. Izaya-kun is my student."
"Where is he? I haven't seen him again. My classmates say he went back to hell." The teacher twitches at the boy's words and he replies, "Izaya-kun hasn't been in class for two days now. We're still contacting the orphanage…" He stops and thinks again… right, there was no orphanage. Masaomi notices the distraction and he then asks, "Is it true? About Izaya Orihara?"
Shizuo sighs and just ruins the boy's hair instead of answering. They reach the place and he gathers the things he left. Masaomi looks around the room and he speaks, "I always see him cleaning this room before… when Mikado-kun was still following him."
"Mikado-kun was following Izaya-kun?" The boy nods and he looks at the teacher, "I think they were friends… along with that kid who talks to the walls. But they stopped meeting one day… Mikado-kun said he shouldn't disturb Izaya Orihara." His fist tightens and then he just walks out of the room. Shizuo closes the door and he speaks to the boy, "You seemed to care a lot about Mikado-kun. Lunging at fights like that…"
Masaomi blushes and then he turns away… but then he grows sad and murmurs, "…I really like Mikado-kun. That's why I can't let those bullies hurt Mikado-kun and call him another demon child… even though… he is…" Shizuo looks at the boy as they stop walking, "He is… like Izaya-kun?" He nodded. The boy nodded at the question.
"…You knew this… this boy isn't human?" Masaomi twitches and then he stares at the teacher. Shizuo twitches and looks away with a hand on his mouth. Masaomi speaks, "Then Izaya Orihara really isn't?" He then looks before them and he murmurs yet again, "It's been a while since I found out. That's also when Mikado-kun started avoiding me. He said he didn't want me to get hurt…"
"…Aren't you scared?"
"Of Mikado-kun? Why should I be, Sensei?" Masaomi shoots his gaze at the teacher and then away again, "I… I like him. I shouldn't be scared of him. I know he wouldn't hurt me… he will never do anything to hurt me. And even if he does… he doesn't mean it…"
'…I'm so sorry… Shizu-chan…'
Shizuo spaces out as he thinks about everything that happened back in the old building that day. Izaya's love… Izaya's transformation… Izaya's cries… Izaya's begging… Izaya's apology. His fist tightens into a ball and his teeth decide to grind. He feels stupid… he is stupid. Every time he is in grave danger, Izaya is there to save him. Even if he has to defy his Mama…
"Heiwajima-sensei." The teacher looks at the curious student who twitches loudly upon seeing more of his face. Masaomi then wears his serious face, "Does Heiwajima-sensei see the seven mysteries? What are they like? Are they really scary?"
"Why… are you… asking?" Masaomi hums before answering, "I just wanted to know what kind of people Mikado-kun has to be with. I wanted to protect him from them, too."
Shizuo finally covers his face with a hand, letting those forming tears run across his cheeks. Though the boy doesn't understand why he is crying, he stays before him and waiting for him to calm down. The helpless man then sobs louder… making Masaomi look away from a crying adult man.
The blond man's other hand dangles freely as he keeps on crying at where he stood. Suddenly, small cold arms wrap around his waist and a being leans behind him. It seems to move as if flattening its cheek against his back… "You cried again. How many times are you going to cry?"
Instead of jumping or jerking away, the blond stops sobbing and freezes at what he suddenly felt and heard. Tears run more across his face and his reddened eyes can barely see… but he doesn't have to look to know, though. His mouth wobbles, having difficulties in pronouncing such a name, "I… I…"
Masaomi turns as he hears the man babble incoherently… only to see bloody arms wrapping around the man's waist. There is a red figure wrapped in a plum-colored coat standing behind the teacher, holding him close and leaning against the other. The boy's eyes widen more as the figure speaks louder, "Stop crying… Shizu-chan…"
