Finally updated this story! I'm trying to work on both this one and my labyrinth fanfic at the same time. Also I'm trying to make the chapters longer so it'll be longer in between updates. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter Six: Looking Familiar
As the sun began to set over the horizon, Lilith whistled a soft tune while Trevor ran ahead. Having run into hollows here and there, both of them were starting to get tired. "Trevor boy, let's make camp for the night." Hearing his bark Lilith went to higher ground and found a tree with a hollow hole big enough for them. Crawling in she set her things down while Trevor did his ritual of getting comfy. "Now boy I need to get some wood for a fire, I'll be right back." Heading back out Lilith quickly gathered some wood, and made her way back. The moon just started to peak through the clouds and howls filled the night. Entering the small hollow again Lilith made a small pile of sticks and used her fire magic to light it.
Seeing Trevor give her the 'are you serious' face Lilith scoffed, "What's that face for? I simply used what was available to me." Hearing what sounded like a snort, Lilith watched as he turned his head away and went to sleep. Shaking her head with a small smile she laid down and looked at the fire. The warmth it provided made it easy for Lilith to drift off to sleep.
The sound of rustling woke Lilith, and her hand instantly grabbed her gun. The fire had long since died giving them the cloak of darkness from inside. Evening out her breathing she waited to see if what was going to come to the entrance. Not having to wait long Lilith saw wolves sniffing around as if trying to find them. Sparing Trevor a glance she saw him on high alert but not making a sound. They both knew to wait and see how it would play out. Of course they didn't try to hide their scents before settling down for they thought this wouldn't happen in this area. 'How nice it is to be proven wrong.'
Noticing the noise stopped Lilith slowly turned her head to see that they left. Confusion filled her mind as she wondered why they left. 'This doesn't seem right...' Deciding it was best to get moving Lilith sat up along with Trevor. They both gave knowing glances that the unsettling feeling in their stomachs wasn't over reacting. Placing her swords and gloves on, along with her gun in the holster, Lilith made her way out. Standing at full height she was only able to take a few steps before a wolf jumped from the side of her and sinking its teeth into her waist.
Letting out a strangled cry Lilith pulled out her gun and smashed the butt end of it into the wolfs head. Hearing the yelp and teeth releasing her, Lilith scrambled away. Trevor quickly sprung into action and attacked the wolf who bit his mistress. The sicken sound of bones cracking echoed before the wolf fell limp. Coming up to his mistress Trevor nudged the wound earning a hiss from Lilith. Whimpering he put his head under her chin, then licked her cheek. Turning his head he growled at the other wolves lurking in the shadows before one pounced out. Moving in a slow circle Trevor and the wolf knew to abide their time. Neither wanted to make the first move, so a wolf from behind tried to sneak up to Trevor.
Forgetting about Lilith was that wolfs mistake. Using her open hand she grabbed her pistol and shot the wolf in the chest. This caused the others to come out and try to overwhelm Lilith. With Trevor occupied Lilith's chances were slim because of the wound. Doing her best to stand which only aggravated the wound, making more blood flow out. She could feel herself become more woozy as she tried to aim her gun. A howl in the distance made everything fall silent, a balverine. 'A balverine? All the way out here?!' Lilith saw the wolves run and fell to her knees. 'I can't fight a balverine, not like this. They shouldn't even be here in this area. Though we are on the border so it wouldn't be surprising if they expanded territory.' Groaning she was about to fall on her back till warm arms surrounded her. Trying to look up all she could her was soft coos of comfort, causing her to faint.
The cackling of a soft fire woke Lilith from her slumber. Glancing around the room it seemed familiar to her, but she couldn't place her finger on it yet. Moving to sit up Lilith hissed and looked down at her side. A bandage was snugly wrapped around her waist with the hint of blood seeping through. "Shit...must have opened it again." Letting out a sigh she pulled herself up so she could look around. Resting her head against the head board, Lilith evened out her breathing then took in her surroundings. The red, black and white was a dead giveaway. 'Reaver...' The opening of the door caught her attention and the devil himself walked in.
"Ah! Nice to see you finally awake my little minx. You're lucky I decided to go on a little adventure or else who knows what could've happened." Reaver walked over to the couch in his room and set his things down, "I am glad that you're fine now." Making his way to her, he sat down on the edge of the bed, "You know I haven't forgotten you're little disappearing act a few nights ago. I don't know if I should feel insulted. Most women beg to stay in my bed."
Scoffing Lilith glared at him, "Well Reaver, I'm not most women so sorry not sorry to disappoint you." Lilith felt a stab of jealousy that Reaver has bedded other women, but it wasn't a secret either. Here she gave him her innocence which she was sure is one of many. 'I'm nothing special. That's why I ran, I'm just another notch in his belt.'
As if sensing her dampening mood Reaver knew he said something wrong. Which surprising bothered him, 'I've never cared for how anyone felt so what changed now?' Leaning forward he gently put a strand of hair behind her ear, making her look towards him, "I'm sorry if something I said upset you, it wasn't my intention." Getting a firm but soft hold on her neck he closed the distance and kissed her.
Taken aback by his gentleness Lilith kissed him back. Unlike their little rump before this actually held true emotions. Her hands came up and grabbed his jacket to make sure he didn't pull away. As if he would when it came to Lilith, he's watched his princess grow up, change into a beautiful woman, and he was the one who claimed her innocence. She truly belong to him and no other man would change that. Both needing air they separated making eye contact. Lilith being the first to speak let out a breathy "Wow".
Making Reaver smirk and chuckled he nodded, "Wow indeed." Not letting her go yet he leaned and placed his forehead on hers, "Listen well Lilith, you're mine. No other man can touch you, do you understand?" His gazed was hard and stern, but also shining with what seemed to be love and determination. Placing a kiss on her forehead he leaned back, making Lilith feel cold. "You need your rest so get some sleep. I shall be back to check on you." He looked down and saw that her bandage was already turning red, "Well, after I change this one of course."
Raising an eyebrow Lilith tried not to seem surprised, "So I'm guessing it was you who changed my clothes as well?" Receiving a nod Lilith shook her head as he grabbed the medical supplies, "Thank you, even though you could've gotten someone else to do it."
Waving his hand in a dismissive manner Reaver set everything on the table next to the bed. "Nonsense, why let someone see what only my eyes have seen?" He proceeded to undress the bandage in a gentle manner as not to hurt her more. "Please do try to hold still as I clean the wound, that wolf really left a mark. It could scar."
Sighing Lilith didn't seem shocked, "No surprise there, it's just going to be one of many probably." Slightly grimacing once air hit the wound, Lilith looked down. It was glaring up at her in all its bloody glory with pain to match. She knew what was going to happen next, disinfecting the wound. The smell of alcohol filled the room as Reaver dampened a cloth. Seeing him give her a look as a warning he placed the cloth on the cuts and began to clean them. Gritting her teeth she slowly breathed out till he was done. Feeling a cooling salve being rubbed on her skin Lilith began to relax. Next the bandage, this is when Lilith realized she was nude because the shirt fell off. Blushing even though Reaver has seen it before didn't stop her. This is the man she grew up with, but also the man she despised because he had her mother. It didn't help that she fell in love with him over the years, and tried to deny it.
"My love, you're blushing. Did we just notice your state of dress?" Reaver couldn't help but smile at how fierce she came off, but she was still innocent.
"Oh shut it Reaver, you're the only one who's seen me like this, other than my mother." Lilith huffed and looked away. Once he was finished Reaver put her shirt back on over her shoulders, "Try to relax now, I have something I must attend." Standing, Reaver left the room.
Biting her lip something didn't feel right. Slowly she stood and grabbed her jacket from her bag and put it on. Grabbing her pants that fit her skin she cautiously slid them on. Lilith could feel her skin around the wound tighten so she relaxed. "This really blows..." Finding her boots Lilith managed to slide them on. Going the speed of a snail, Lilith finally reached the door. Opening it she stepped out to hearing laughing and music. 'A party?' Using the wall as support she made her way towards the sounds. Soon she heard fighting, 'Fighting? Who would be fighting?' Reaching an archway Lilith leaned in to see what was happening. What she saw made her gasp. There in the middle of the room was a man fighting balverines, oddly enough he had similar features like her. Limping in she braced against the railing, looking around she found Reaver on higher level enjoying what was happening. 'Is this who he really is? Why would he be doing this?!' Feeling anger well up inside she didn't know her mouth started talking, "REAVER!"
Jerking to his name being yelled he saw Lilith standing there glaring at him, 'This isn't going to be good.' Trying to keep composure which never was an issue until now Reaver threw his hands up, "Why my little minx! Welcome to the party darling!"
"Shut up!" Lilith knew she shouldn't strain her body but she couldn't let anything happen to that man. Jumping over causing the wound to open again, and draw the attention of the balverine. Landing Lilith's body shook as she stood. "You bastards leave him alone." Reaching in to her pockets, Lilith pulled out her gloves. Putting them on they began to glow with lighting and ice. Thrusting her hands forward she let the magic flow out and to the balverines.
Reaver was shaking with rage. Lilith just jumped down into danger knowing her chances were zero. 'Why did she do something so reckless!' He was about to jump down to get where when the prince saved her. Scooping her up bridal style he ran out of the room and back to the others. Reaver was left staring at an empty arena and dead balverines. The railing was humming under the stress Reaver was putting it through. The prince, the prince who is leading a rebellion, had his little flower. This did not sit well with him, it also was bad she saw what had happened. 'Now I have more amends to make.' Shaking his head he left the room and headed to his study to think.
Running into the sewers Rowan found the others conversing, "Help me! She's opened a wound and needs treatment!" The others quickly gathered around and began working to help the mystery woman. Walter saw that it was Lilith and couldn't help but notice the similarities between her and Rowan. 'They both have Sparrow's features.' Shaking his head he couldn't believe it, 'Could this really be the lost princess? Has she finally returned after all this time?' Knowing that the princess was left with an amulet he leaned in and hid his shock. There was the gold amulet with a ruby containing an image of a sparrow. Walter was truly surprised no one was bringing this up, but of course Lilith's condition was more important. "How does she look?"
Rowan walked over to him sighing, "Shes a fighter, kind of reckless even though she knew perfectly well this would happen. She was in Reavers manor."
Walter couldn't believe it, "You mean to tell me this woman was with Reaver?"
"Well I guess, I mean she came from the wing his room resides. By the looks of it this bandage she had on wasn't old at all. It was like it was just dressed. If Reaver has a soft side for this woman I wonder if she can bring him to our side." Rowan was staring at the woman who was now dressed again and sleeping, "She looks like my mother Walter."
Caught off guard Walter nodded his head, "That she does. We'll have to ask her when she wakes. For now we need to make plans." Rowan nodded in agreement and they both left Lilith to rest. Walter gave her one last look as they walked away, 'Sparrow, we found your daughter...our princess.'
