Chapter 7
Nightpaw spotted Applefur walking toward her, a worried look across her face. Had she seen Nightpaw cough up blood?
"Are you alright? Would you like to skip training tonight?" Applefur mewed, looking at the little amount of blood that was at Nightpaw's paws.
"No, I'm alright. We're just looking at the territory, right?" She asked.
"Yep. And, if you do well, then maybe tomorrow morning you can come on a dawn patrol with me." The golden-furred she-cat replied.
Nightpaw felt excitement burst in her heart. She was so excited to be an apprentice!
Applefur led her out into the forest. Nightpaw kept close to her side, fear tingling on her pelt. She'd heard of the forest having badgers and foxes crawling deep within its roots.
She smelled fresh-kill crawling, heard their claws scuttling around. She could scent herbs all around. It smelled wonderful.
"First, I'll take you to RabbitClan's border. They are here, just past this tall grass. It's easy to tell where the border is, because their side has a lot of tall grass, while our side has mostly soft, earthy ground and low grass." She meowed. "Obviously, they have many rabbits on their side. They are fast cats. Their leader is a big orange tom, Burnstar."
Applefur walked to where it smelled of fish. Nightpaw wrinkled her nose. How could they eat something that smelled like that?
"This is the border to FishClan. As the name implies, these cats eat many of fish, and many of the forest's streams flow through their territory. These cats also can swim, miraculously. Their leader is Rainstar, a pretty silver-gray tabby she-cat."
Lastly, the two headed to the border of MouseClan. They had many trees in their territory. Applefur explained to Nightpaw about their treacherous ways and the stealthy and dangerous leader, Bonestar.

Nightpaw was finishing up a vole that she had caught during some training with her mentor when it started to rain. Nightpaw scented something strange, but it was familiar. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the same brown-and-white she-cat she'd seen in the strange forest. It was the voice in her mind!
It seemed as though no one else could see her, though. When they got close to her, they could just walk right through her.
The cat walked over to her. "There is another task that will allow you to have the power." She grinned evilly.
Nightpaw gulped. She didn't want the power anymore. She just wanted this cat to leave her alone. "Wh-What is it?"
"Kill someone."
Her heart skipped a beat. She must kill someone? She'd rather die that murder another cat! If she didn't do as this cat said, she would die.
"Who?" She meowed, her voice shaking.
"Flametail."
