006 – Don't Be an Electabuzz-Kill

"Alex! W-Wait for us!" Wade and Liz, alongside their Pokemon, dashed into Ilex Forest after Alex.

When they caught up, Alex was just standing there with a blank expression on his face.

"Alex, what's wrong?" Wade asked. Liz was cowering behind him, holding her female Nidoran close to her chest.

"Be quiet," Alex whispered to them.

Wade blinked. "How come?"

Alex silenced him with his left hand and pointed forward with his right one. There was a hoard of Pokemon, everything from Crobat to Poochyena, crowded around them. Their eyes were all pure white.

Liz was about to scream, but Wade covered her mouth. "What do we do?" he quietly asked Alex.

"You two just wait," Alex replied, and he pulled out a Pokeball. He tossed it, and Spheal popped out. "Rollout!" Spheal rolled into a ball and bowled over several of the Pokemon.

One of them, a Koffing, used Smoke Screen. Spheal skidded to a halt and looked around in confusion. "Dang it," Alex growled.

"I can't see, Wade..." Liz complained, moving closer to the Bug Catcher.

"I know," Wade replied, taking her hand. "Don't worry. Alex will handle this!" Liz blinked, then nodded.

"Spheal, use Return!" Alex ordered. Spheal whirled around, looking for something it could attack, but it couldn't see a thing. Then a Growlithe slammed into it.

Liz grabbed the Growlithe when it skidded by them. "Wade...!" The Pokemon was struggling to escape her grip.

Wade took it and tried to calm it down. "Hey, it's alright, we're not gonna hurt you..." The Growlithe calmed down, and a shadowy black aura escaped it's body. It shook itself and looked up at Wade. "Look at this, the color is back in it's eyes!" he exclaimed, and showed Liz. "You gotta run, little buddy, before that shadow comes back!" The Growlithe nodded, leaped out of Wade's arms and scampered away.

"Something's controlling these Pokemon, like I thought..." Liz said.

Wade nodded. "Spheal isn't doing too good out there... huh?" He noticed that one of Alex's Pokeballs ha tapped against his foot. He picked it up to find that Electabuzz was inside of it. "Oh, I see!" Wade exclaimed, picking up the Pokeball and tossing it in the air. "Electabuzz! Use Flash!"

Electabuzz began to glow very brightly, effectively diminishing the Smoke Screen.

"Good job, kid," Alex called. "Electabuzz! Discharge!" He fell back as Electabuzz became surrounded by a field of static electricity, and beams of light struck down multiple opponents. "Good job, Electabuzz!"

Wade turned to Beedrill. "Do you think you can help?" he asked. Beedrill nodded determinedly. "Alright! Go, Beedrill!"

Beedrill began firing pins at the wild Pokemon from it's stingers, weaken more targets so that Electabuzz could take it out. However, as soon as those Pokemon were defeated, new ones came in to take their place.

"Wade! There's too many!" Liz exclaimed.

Wade clenched his teeth. "I know..." he said. Then he turned to her. "But, uh, I don't have anything else besides Metapod!" Liz fell over.

Alex, who was ducking down to avoid Electabuzz's attacks, held out his Pokedex to read Beedrill's level. Then he let out an exasperated sigh. He dug through his pack again and pulled out two TMs, then tossed them over to Wade. "Use those on Beedrill," he called. "They'll make it stronger!"

Wade glanced from Alex to the TMs, then called back Beedrill. "Alex says these will make you stronger," he told his partner. "Do you want to use them?" Beedrill thought about it, then nodded. "Alright!" Wade gave the TMs to Beedrill, who then absorbed their energy to learn the attacks. "Go now! Attack, Beedrill!"

Beedrill then released a glob of sludge at several of the Pokemon, taking them out of the picture.

"That attack was Sludge Bomb," Alex said, catching Wade and Liz's attention. "It's a powerful Poison Type attack that has a good chance of poisoning the target."

"It was nice of him to just give you that," Liz said.

"He probably only did it because he couldn't stand how weak Beedrill was," Wade sighed.

A Donphan was able to knock away Electabuzz, and a Voltorb was fighting Beedrill. "Wade!" Liz exclaimed.

The Voltorb pushed Beedrill away to Wade's feet, then proceeded to use Selfdestruct.

"Water Gun!"

"Flamethrower!"

Babjack and Totodile were in heated combat. Totodile was relying mostly on trying to hit the Cyndaquil with a Water attack, while Babjack focused mainly on dodging and landing a hit whenever possible.

"Babjack, try Swift again!" Miranda called.

"Whatever you say!" Babjack replied, and he started spinning on that one front paw again. It seemed that was the only attack that could effectively hit Totodile.

If he keeps using that attack, he'll run out Power Points... Miranda thought. We'll have to save it. "Try Quick Attack!"

Babjack charged a Totodile full force. Then Totodile grabbed him and flung him into the cliff face. "Ouch!"

Cal laughed. "Sorry, I train my Pokemon to be super effective against every type!"

Totodile was blasting Babjack with water. "How do you train your Pokemon like that?" Miranda asked.

"Well, I bred them myself to give them some cool moves," Cal replied. "and I tutor them and use TMs."

"Wow, that's really neat!" Miranda exclaimed. "I'd try that out, but all of my Pokemon are male. Besides, I'd rather let them choose their own partners."

"You've got spirit, kid," Cal said. "You'll be a good trainer. As soon as you save your Cyndaquil from getting wrecked."

Miranda glanced over at Babjack, who was still pinned against the cliff face. "H-Help!" the Cyndaquil exclaimed.

"Oh!" Miranda cried. "Flame Wheel!"

Babjack spun into a wheel of flames and broke through Totodile's attack, smashing it in the gut. Totodile skidded to a halt as Babjack dropped down. "Not so tough now, are you?!" Miranda's partner cried.

Totodile grumbled. "Brick Break!" Cal commanded, and his Pokemon brought a fury of chops down upon Babjack.

Babjack ducked down and slid under Totodile, delivering another Flamethrower attack. Totodile cried out. "What did you do that for?!"

"Can't you put up a fight?" Babjack asked.

"Use Bite!"

Totodile dashed at Babjack, jaws unhinged, prepared to strike like an Arbok.

"Babjack!" Miranda cried, as Totodile clamped down on her partner, tossing him around like a dog toy. "It's jaws are so strong! B-But, how?!"

"Totodile is known for being able to unhinge it's jaw like that," Cal told her. "That is it's biggest strength."

"Its well-developed jaws are powerful and capable of crushing anything. Even its trainer must be careful."

Babjack shook himself off, then turned to his trainer. "What should I do?!" he asked.

Miranda clenched her teeth. "I..." she mumbled. "I can't..."

Babjack gasped, then Totodile smacked him in the back. Cal snickered. "Alright, Totodile, finish this up. She's got a Magby that we still have to defeat."

Totodile picked up Babjack by his chest fur. "Now who's not putting up a fight?"

Babjack growled, then shut his eyes and turned away.

The gemstones on Miranda's gloves started to glow again. "Babjack, NOW!" she exclaimed.

Babjack flung himself over Totodile's head, then slashed his claws into its back.

"Wha-?!" Cal exclaimed.

Miranda started laughing. "That's Crush Claw!" she said. "Not sure how he learned it, but it was Crush Claw!"

Babjack dusted off his paws as Totodile fell behind him. "Yeah, that means I'm awesome!" he exclaimed.

Cal returned Totodile to its Pokeball. "Wow, you're even better than I thought!" he said. "Cyndaquil can only learn Crush Claw through breeding. You really didn't breed him yourself?"

Miranda shook her head, and Babjack leaped on her shoulder. "I got him from Prof. Elm, and my dad."

"Huh," Cal said. "Well, I guess it was nice meeting you,"

"You too!" Miranda said, and they shook hands. "You're a really strong trainer, and skilled!"

"Same to you," Cal replied. "Good luck with your badges."

"Thanks! Also..." she mumbled. "your Pokemon don't say much..." Babjack facepalmed.

"What do you mean 'say much?'" Cal inquired.

"Aaaaaaahhh It's nothing, nothing, really!" Miranda exclaimed, flailing her arms around.

Cal scratched his head.

Alex, Wade, and Liz lay unconscious in the middle of the Ilex Forest. Wade slowly began to awake, and then began freaking out. "Liz? Liz!" He rushed over to his friend and began shaking her motionless body. "Liz, are you alright?!"

She began to stir, and eventually sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Nngh... W-Wade? What... happened?"

Wade looked around. "I'm really not sure," he replied. "Beedrill?" His Pokemon stood up and flew over to him. "What about your Pokemon"

Liz's two Nidoran trotted over to them. "Looks like their okay..." Liz said, holding her Pokemon in her arms. "But didn't we follow an older kid in here?"

"Alex!" Wade exclaimed. Electabuzz and Spheal stood over their trainer with worried expressions. Wade dashed over to his new friend. "Alex, wake up! Say something!"

Liz, who was obviously injured, limped over to them, and then collapsed. "Ow..." she groaned.

"Are you alright?" Alex asked, who had woken up in a matter of seconds.

"YAAAHH!" the trainers cried.

Alex sighed. "I'm fine, if you were wondering," he stood back up, getting strange looks from his Pokemon. "but I don't think you are... Liz, was it?" He dug through his pack again, and pulled out some bandages. "Looks like you broke your leg," he said, wrapping the bandages around her leg. "Try not to move it too much."

"W-Wow, thanks!" Liz said. Wade took a closer look at the bandages. Was that the same symbol on Alex's sweatband?

Alex looked back at the deeper forest. "Sure, whatever," he said. "Don't get comfortable. That shadow is still here..."

Liz moved closer to Wade. "That shadow?"

"Are you sure?" Wade asked.

Alex nodded. "I'm sure," he replied. "But the Pokemon left. Electabuzz, use Flash again," Electabuzz began to glow brightly again, and the shadow leaped out of hiding.

"EEK! EEK! EEK!" Liz screeched. Wade tried to calm her down, alongside her male Nidoran.

"I knew it!" Alex cried. "Electabuzz, use Thunder Bolt!" Electabuzz proceeded to electrocute the shadow. That did absolutely nothing. "Dang it! Electabuzz, Spheal!" He recalled his Pokemon, then rushed forward. "Hey, shadow!" he exclaimed. "Come and get me!"

"Alex, wait!" Wade exclaimed.

It was too late. The shadow slammed into Alex, and there was a bright flash.

((Whoops, cliffhanger!

Also, am I seriously shipping NPCs at this point?
