Alec

By the 25th hour into our language studies we were done with English. Truly it was not as hard as we had thought it to be. The easiest part of it was learning the abbreviations; FML, LOL, OMG they were all straight forward. It was understood that these were not to be said, but typed in a message between friends. Everyone had a phone here, albeit they were the ones with buttons. Being a vampire had their drawbacks, our cold exterior prevented us from being able to use touch screen.

"What about Ireland?"

I was pulled from my thoughts by the Childe Isabella. Even though she is older than I by human standards, she was nothing but a newborn.

"What about Ireland?" I asked.

"What is their native tongue, is it not Gaelic?" She asked her Hazel eyes peering up at me.

"It is recognized as the first official language yes, but the other official language is English. English is also the most commonly used of the two." I said.

"Ah, okay." She nodded at my words taking a mental note of them.

"Most people do not know that, as it is not taught in school. A lot of people believe that since you are from Ireland you must speak Irish Gaelic, but that is not the case." I continued.

"Oh, that makes sense. What about Greek and Latin? Are those two languages not important to learn anymore?" She asked.

"You can learn them, it is not a widely spoken language anymore. I haven't bothered to learn it at all yet." I said.

"Really? T.V. made it seem like a very important language to know and understand." She said.

"Well if you want to summon a demon I guess you need to learn it." I chuckled.

The way her eyes widen I probably should not have said that. Now I don't know if demons are truly real or not, but I do know that you cannot summon them. I have watched many people go to crossroads to try and sell their souls just to get a glimpse of that dark world. Nothing ever happened to them and they always left disappointed, relieved, but disappointed.

"You cannot summon a demon as they do not exist Isabella, focus back on your Italian." Professor V. said.

"But I don't know how to pronounce this word." She groaned.

"What word?" He asked.

"Arrive dercy."

There was a pause as the Prof. did not seem to understand what word she was trying to pronounce.

"What is the English translation?" He asked.

"Goodbye." She said.

"Ah Arrivederci." He said in almost a purring voice.

If this was a real school I believe he would have been fired for the way he said that.

"Yes that! I cannot for the life of me roll my R's." She said.

"It is easy once you learn the way to move your head, tongue, and lips. One, keep your head either forwards or up to allow air out of your mouth." He said

She exhaled slowly before nodding at him to continue.

"Relax your jaw and take in air through your mouth. You want to position your tongue at the roof of your mouth, behind your teeth, push to the back." He said.

"My tongue to the top of my mouth, how far to the back?" She asked.

"Back enough where the air is trapped between your tongue and the roof of your mouth." He explained.

"And then what?"

"You push the air out of your mouth as fast as you can while leaving your tongue in its place." He said.

She tried it a couple of times, but the air constantly went out her mouth in a flat line.

"Are you keeping your tongue to the top?" I asked.

"Yeah, it keeps moving though." She pouted.

"Watch me." I said.

I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and exhaled out a purring set of R's.

When I opened my eyes, she was standing closer to me with her mouth open in awe. Honestly it was not a hard accomplishment.

"Let's try a different method, one that will have you doing it without trying." I said.

I moved my hand slowly, watching her as she watched me cautiously. My hand made it to her head and I slowly ran it through her hair. Her eyes that was shining with confusion were know closed as she sighed in pleasure. Just as I hoped for, she started to purr in happiness. The sound was coming from her chest and not her mouth, but it was indeed a start. I stopped my petting much to her disappointment.

"Why'd you stop?" She asked.

"I only wanted to show you that you can make the sound." I said.

She only glared at me before turning back to her book.

Anthony snickered from beside her, she gave him the finger without even looking up.

This was going to be a long week.

A Week Later

"Straighter Alec, rulers do not slouch while they are sitting, if you were human you would have a hunch back by now. Isabella, Jane cross your ankles when you sit down. Whenever you are addressing people in the throne room you cross at your ankles and have your hands clasped together on your lap. Anthony when you stand to greet people you raise your left hand in a welcoming gesture, but you walk forward starting with your right foot. Also, its five steps forward when in the throne room no more no less. They will meet you the rest of the way. When you are in their home you take three. Again!"

We repositioned ourselves and looked at him. This was the 20th time that we were doing this. It's either we all do it right at the same time or we start over because one of us forgot to do something. We must be in sync with each other or else we won't look like a true ruling empire.

"Jane, the Irish coven is here and you are the one to greet them. Go." He said nodding at her to begin.

She stood from her chair gracefully, a pleasant smile was plastered on her face. Her right high clacked as she walked forward while raising her left hand.

One…

Two…

Three…

Four…

Five…

Stop.

"Welcome Amazonians it is a pleasure to have you here in Volterra. I hope your stay with us will be both influencing and entertaining." Her left hand fell during her greeting to be back clasped in her right in front of her.

"Great, much better greeting. Anthony, we are in the home of the Amazonian Coven and they have just welcomed you in, respond." He said.

He stood a smiling gracing his face, his hands are clasped behind his back in a non-threatening manner.

One…

Two…

Three…

"Gracias por tenernos. Estamos muy agradecidos de que nos permitas permanecer en tu hermosa tierra." [Thank you for having us. We are most grateful that you are allowing us to stay on your beautiful land].

"Excellent. Isabella, the Russian Coven is here for a visit greet them, but have them understand that there will be no fighting while they are here." He said.

She rose out of her seat slowly a closed mouth but still lovely smile appeared on her face. She took her five steps, right foot first and left hand raised.

"Thank you for joining us in our home. We welcome you with open arms and hope that your stay here is peaceful and clear of any trouble." Her mouth finally slid open to reveal her pearly white teeth, but her eyes were firm and showed she was in control.

"Brilliant. Alec, we are in French territory and we are surrounded by vampires asking why we are on their land. Go."

I stood from my chair but only took one step closer. Never step too close when dealing with unruly people. My shoulders were stiff as I pulled them as straight as they could go. A firm smile was planted onto my face.

"Bonjour, nous sommes les Volturi et nous ne voulons dire aucun mal. Nous souhaitons uniquement rencontrer votre chef de famille pour discuter de certains problèmes qui ont eu lieu. Si vous pouviez nous conduire à cette personne, nous serons très reconnaissants." [Hello, we are the Volturi and we mean no harm. We only wish to meet with your coven leader to discuss some issues that have been going on. If you could please lead us to that person we shall be most grateful].

He stood there staring at each of us, assessing our stances and postures.

"Magnificent! You all have gotten the steps right. To think I almost lost hope on all of you." He said.

"Now dining, since we are vampires we will not have full course meals. When it is the fresh feast the Kings go first as they have first pick of what they want, that is because they only get one human out of the bunch. Most go to the guards to keep them full and ready for a fight. As the Underwing Rulers and the Elite Guard, you have the first pick, but can have two humans at the most." He explained.

"Do the Kings get full from just the one human that they have?" Bella asked.

"They do indeed. They do not have to move around as much as the guards. Do not be fooled they are all well trained in the art of fighting, especially your father." He told her.

"What about the blood bags that are kept in coolers?" Anthony asked.

"Each vampire gets 10 a month to help in between the Fresh Feed. You can hunt for yourself, but it must be scheduled and preapproved by Marcus. You cannot hunt in the City Volterra, but anywhere outside of there is fine. Do not draw attention to us is our only request." He said.

"There will be gatherings and festivities going on in the Castle every few years. We will have flutes of blood some laced with alcohol. The clear flutes have plain human blood in them, the gold flutes have alcohol laces blood in them, and the silver ones have animal blood in them. We do not offer alcohol laced animal blood as the wine does not mix well with it." He explained.

"You are to never have a silver flute in your hand at all. If you do explain that you were putting it away as one of the vegetarians had left it lying around. You can have a max of five gold flutes, and seven clear flutes. Twelve flutes of blood are more than enough as all our gatherings fall a day after our fresh feeds." He said.

"Do I need to explain why you should never have a silver flute in your hand?" He asked.

"No, we understand that it is, because we cannot let the Volturi look weak. If we cannot kill a human how will we ever be able to kill a vampire when the time arises." Bella said smiling.

"Ah very good I see the Twins have explained at least that much to you."

"Yes, they knocked the idea of hunting animals out of our minds before we even made it into our room." Anthony said.

"Speaking of, how is your new room?" I asked.

"It is very beautiful Alec. Also thank you for stocking it up with clothing in our size. We did not think about bringing any when we left." Bella said.

"That is understandable as newborns you are driven by your instincts." Jane said.

"It is still hard to believe that you two are newborns." Prof. said.

"Not really, you can tell by the lack of control of our powers. I can't even conjure up a physical shield. I tried doing it the same way that I had in the throne room when I first arrived here, but it won't work." She said.

"Yes, I have heard about that. I guess it was fuel by a need to protect yourself from danger." Prof said with an odd look in his eyes.

He was mulling something over in his mind. Something was not adding up to him. It was the same look in the Aro's eye whenever he saw us walking together. They were hiding something from us, the Kings that is. Bella wasn't hiding anything as she looked none the wiser of the feeling that were rolling around this room. Anthony on the other hand. I had never felt another energy such as his. It was filled with more self-confidence than even Aro held.

His knowledge of Isabella was also concerning. He seemed to understand her little actions as if he has known them all his life. He once mentioned that he knew that she was nervous by the way that she spun her ring around on her finger. She would turn it three times to the right, five times to the left, take it off, then put it back on before repeating the process. Now I had only seen her do that once so there was no way that he could have figured that out in only a few days of knowing her. Not with that much detail.

An object flew passed my head almost slicing into my cheek.

A knife.

"Is there a reason a knife was thrown at me?" I asked raising a brow.

"You were not paying attention as we moved onto my favorite lesson ever." Prof. explained.

"What lesson would that be?" Jane asked.

There was a pause as a smile broke across his face. Though this smile was unlike any smile that I had ever seen him put on. This smile was borderline evil and the glint in his eye was not helping me feel better either.

"Hand to hand combat, without the use of your powers of course. All you have is your strength to rely on." He said, his smile growing bigger.

Suddenly another knife was thrown, though this time at Anthony. He caught it, but quickly dropped it with a hiss.

"Be careful these knives may have venom on them. They are sharp all over, so they will cut into you. It will burn, but think of it this way, your first scars will be made in this very room." He said raising his arms in the air.

"What are they made of?" Jane asked her eyes gleaming with excitement.

"They are made from the teeth of vampires that I have killed over my lifetime. Vampire teeth easily pierce through our flesh, why not harness them to do as much damage as possible?" He asked.

"You're insane, I love it." Isabella giggled.

"Good for you, now focus." He threw three knives at her at once.

She dodged two of them, but let the last one graze her cheek. She let out a hiss, but showed that she was not going to stand down. The smile also did not leave her face.

She was truly enjoying this way too much.

As was my sister.

These two will most definitely cause much destruction in the upcoming future.
