Chapter 7: Fire and Obsidian

Nate's POV:

Three days had passed since I returned to the Overworld, and nothing really eventful had happened. Every morning I was awoken by Lia, who then prepared breakfast for us. Then we would set the duties of the day, either farming, mining or building. I helped her finish the wall surrounding the town, and repair a few houses on the edge that had been damaged. I also help her gather some materials outside of town for shops and for personal use.

Other than a few small mob attacks when we ventured outside of town, nothing really dangerous had happened to indicate what was just on the horizon.

As usual, my slumber was disturbed at an annoyingly early hour by the sound of Lia's cheerful voice. I manage to drag myself out the comfy bed and down stairs to the kitchen/dining area.

"Having trouble waking up I see, as usual," Lia giggled as I stumbled into the room and sat sleepily at the table.

I was about to begin eating when a sudden pain shot up my leg. I yelled and clutched my lower leg.

"Nate!" Lia had dropped her fork and run around to my side within seconds. She pulled up the left leg of my pants to reveal the side of my calf, which was dominated with a large H. It was a horrifying sight, and brightly glowing the colour of a lava sea.

"Nate! Are you okay?" She asked frantically, but I couldn't answer. But in my mind, I knew the answer. I simply had to nod and grit my teeth.

The pain lasted for several minutes, and even when it subsided, there was still a strong pulsing sensation radiating from the mark.

"Nate," Lalia asked cautiously, "What is that?"

"I hoped I would never have to see it, but here it is. It's a mark that will appear if ever my father's life was in grave danger. We have to get to the Nether, now!" I stood up and stumbled over towards the door, my left leg still limping slightly.

"Wait, Nate! We can't just charge off to the Nether unprepared! There are mobs all over the Nether that would love nothing more than to see us die."

"Oh, I forgot to tell you? As my father is the god of the Nether, fire and mobs, I am able to manipulate mobs to my will. It's just one of my quirks."

"That's amazing!" She gasped, "Can you hear their thoughts or understand what they are saying."

"It depends on the mob really. While most mobs are always uttering something, even if it is just 'Brains' or 'Kill the Minecraftians', some are actually quite chatty. The Overworld mobs tend to be more quiet and cautious, but those of the Nether usually don't mind chatting with me. Saying that, not many of them actually have anything interesting to say, however the blazes can be quite profound from time to time. Unfortunately, no one can understand them, apart from me and my Father, that is. Anyway, we really need to go."

"If your Father's life is in danger, don't you think we should get some armour, weapons, food, potions, etcetera?" Lia pointed out.

"Right. Good point. Well, let's not just stand here then." We flew out of the room and dashed off to different parts of the castle, collecting various helpful items and a few slightly more random things. After a few minutes I was found myself waiting outside on the castle steps.

A few more minutes passed before Lalia burst out of the doors onto the steps.

"What took you so long princess?"

"I had to quadruple check I had everything," She justified, "And I'm a Queen, not a princess."

"I'm sorry, your Highness," I apologised mockingly, kneeling down on the ground, "Can you find it in your heart to forgive a poor son-of-a-god like me?"

She giggle, "Of course, now come on, I thought we had a god to save!"

"Right," I said, getting up. "Let's go!"

Lalia's POV:

Together we travelled out of town and across some plains, until we were stood at the entrance of a cave, right in the centre of the Mob Fields. It was daytime, so no mobs were spawning, and Nate kept all the other mobs away anyway.

Down, down, down we travelled, following a labyrinth of tunnels towards the bedrock. As we got deeper, the temperature began to rise and around me I could hear the pop of molten lava.

"Are you sure this is the right way?" I asked again, "There are so many tunnels, how…"

I was stopped short by the sight before me.

An ornate room of marble lay before us. It was small, and poorly lit, but in the centre was a majestically haunting portal. It lay on the ground and had strange carvings in the obsidian, but otherwise it looked identical to those in the books. We walked up to the edge.

"Together?" I asked.

He stared into my eyes, and then held out his hand and softly replied, "Always."

I put my hand in his and then together we jumped.

Purple swirls surrounded me, and for a second it felt like my heart was being violently squeezed and tugged. Then I fell onto something hot and hard. I opened my eyes and was greeted by the sight of fire everywhere. Behind me was a vast sea of lava, with floating islands of netherack above it. But that was nothing compared to what was in front of me. On the top of a large hill, looming over me like a warning, was what I assumed to be Herobrine's Mansion, and Ignatius's childhood home.

Nate stood up from where he had landed next to me and offered a hand up.

"Well, here we are," He announced, "Welcome to hell!"

"It certainly looks terrifying enough," I replied.

"Come on, we don't have time to waste," Nate said and he began to make his way up the hill.

"Wait for me!" I yelled and rushed after him.

Nate's POV:

There was no time to wait for the maid this time, so instead I just broke down the door. It crashed to the floor with a bang, then miniaturised and flew into my black backpack. I ran up the stairs to my Father's office, where he would undoubtedly be.

I burst through the door, "Father!"

But it wasn't him.

In his place was a tall, black figure with a single lavender eye. The other was covered in a hideous scar. This was no Minecraftian, it was an Enderman.

"What have you done with my Father!" I demanded.

"Calm down, hot head. Your Father is perfectly safe, for now." He replied, his voice like nails down a chalkboard. Most Endermen did not speak, and now I knew why.

"Where have you taken him?" But this wasn't my voice, it came from Lia.

"Wait," I said, "You can understand him?"

"Of course she can, I'm speaking Minecraftian you fool."

"Hey! Ignatius is no fool!"

"Oh," This Enderman replied, "So, your Herobrine's little brat, are you? And what are you, his mortal little play toy?"

"She is my girlfriend, I'll have you know you low life!" I roared, anger raging inside of me, "I'll have no more of your games! Now, what is your name?"

"My name," he said, "Is Lucius and I am the Leader of the Enderman, and missionary of the almighty Ender Dragon and Wither King. I was going to just let you two leave without your memories, but seeing as you two might try to spoil our plan, I might just have to keep you. GUARDS, tie these two up and prepare for transportation."

"Over my dead body," I challenged. He seemed to be able to resist my will to some extent, but not fully. These guards however were more changeable, although only for a few seconds. I grabbed Lia by the wrist and pulled her past the guards and down the stairs.

We burst out of the building, and I was horrified to see the sight before me. Around the portal were stacks and stacks of TNT. The only one who would be able to repair that link if it was broken was my Father or my Uncle, but seeing as neither of them were available at the moment, if we didn't hurry we would be inevitably caught.

Together we sprinted down the hill, gaining momentum rapidly. We had almost reached the bottom, when I saw the trip wire, but we were going too fast.

"RUN FASTER!" I yelled to Lalia. We were either going to just make it, or die trying.

I heard the click as we ran over the trip wire.

"What was that?" she asked.

"Don't stop."

A hiss of lit TNT. We were almost there.

"JUMP!" I yelled.

I folded myself around her as we dove for the portal. A massive BOOM sounded behind us, and propelled us forward. The explosion rang loudly through my ears.

'We're going to die' I thought.

But then I felt that strong tug and we were gone.

Lalia's POV:

"Ow!" I exclaimed as we tumbled onto the marble floor.

"Sorry," Nate said as he rolled over onto his back.

"No, no, not you."

"No. It was me. If I hadn't insisted we go after my Father, we wouldn't have gotten into this mess. I'm sorry."

"Don't be. I wouldn't have it any other way." We embraced tightly, holding each other close for a few minutes and just enjoying the silence. "So, what now?"

"Well, I guess we should probably check up on my Uncle, as if they took my Father they will be after him next, so we need to get there first. I have some questions of my own to ask."

"Do you have any idea where they might have taken him?" I asked.

"Probably the End, but I couldn't really say for sure," he replied. "Anyway, let's head back to the castle, there are a few things I need to get before we head off to my Uncle's place."

"Wait, if we are going to see… OH MY NOTCH! I'm going to get to meet Notch? That's amazing. I bet he's so regal and majestic."

"I wouldn't pin your hopes too high on that one," Nate laughed, "Come on."

We made our way out of the marble portal room and back up the twisted path to the surface. Since we weren't in as much of a rush, I made Nate stop a few times so I could mine a few things I had seen on the way down; 8 gold, 18 iron and 3 diamonds. By the time we returned to the Overworld, it was just about midday, with the square sun beating down brightly.

"I'll race you back," I challenged.

"Okay. If I win, I get the diamonds you found. I've been meaning to upgrade my pickaxe for a while now. If you win, you get to keep the diamonds."

"Okay, you're on!"

"See you!" We both raced off across the plains, but I knew I couldn't beat him on foot. So I ran to the Rainbow's End Mine and caught a cart from there. As the railway was mostly powered rail, it was much faster than even running.

Once I was back in town, I raced to the castle and stood smugly on the steps.

"Well, look who finally decided to show up," A voice came from behind me.

"Nate! How did you…"

"Simple really, it takes longer for you to run to the stations than it does for me to run from place to place. The fastest way to any one place is in a straight line! Now, I believe you owe me three diamonds."

"Damn it Nate," I said, handing him the diamonds with a resigned sigh. "Now, we had better be prepare if we are going to get to Notch before that Lucius does."

He opened the door and bowed, "Ladies first, your Highness."

"Why thank you sir…"

"Hello?" I was cut off by a voice coming from inside.

"Who is it? Who's there?" I asked. I couldn't see anyone in the foyer.

"Hello?"

A/N:

I'M SO SORRY!

Hello dearest, most loyal readers,

I sincerelyappologise for the late update. My holidays have just been so busy so far, with lots of assignments and other things. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I had full day rehearsalsfor the upcoming school musical, Hairspray Jr. I am, ironically, playing Tracy's mother Edna Turnblad, which my friends all find amusing as I am skinny whilst Edna is obese, and so I have to wear a fat suit. We all find it quite hilarious.

Also, just a note that in my story, I imagine that all the Minecraftians are human in form, that is they are not made of squares or pixels. Everything else is the same shape as in minecraft, however I am taking a bit of creative licence and creating a few items here and there (you'll see later).

Another note, I forgot to post this earlier and I am only going to say thing once. I, LarkSweetsong, do not own minecraft, I only own my ideas in this story.

Anyway, who could this mystery person be? I guess you'll have to wait for the next update to find out!

Don't forget to Like, Favourite and most importantly review! I love hearing from you lovely readers, it really makes my day! See you in the next chapter,

~Lark~
