Before you guys decided to grab a pitch fork and tomatoes, I have a very good reason to why I haven't updated for this long.
Ready, want to hear it?
Okay!
I was lazy. /hides
I'm sorry! T^T||
I didn't mean to take this long! I was just busy at first trying to finish up Wedding Gone Wrong and trying to deal with some people who disliked the ending (in my opinion, I disliked it too,...haha) and then there were some homophobes who hated (GumLee) pairings and ranted out their hate for it. (I just deleted the review without reading them. Hey, you're just wasting not only your time, but my time as well. You see that little 'x' button on your window screen there? Yeah, press that and you'll never have to read it again! Awesome, I know right~? Why haven't you thought of that?) And so, I decided to forget writing for a while and try to relax my mind and then with the support of my family and friends, I'm back again in full swing (and plus reading bunch of Morby stories..mwehehe).
Anyways, here is episode 7! I decided to add in CJ and Jeremy. I read a few fan fics which had Jeremy in it and if I'm not mistaken, he only appeared once in the 'Replacement' episode, right? Well, that's the only episode I remembered that featured the duo Jeremy and Chad. And I just found out that Mordecai was the exact same (kinda) bird from the adult show '2 in the AMPM (duh, it is from the same creator), but still, to think the conspiracy theories out there somehow scarred me about this show. /sighs
Oh wells, enough of my rambling! Enjoy this chapter and review to let me know what you think about it!
Any hate comments will be deleted and reported. (Yeah, I go that far.)
Any constructive criticism is welcome (Just for the record, I know if it's a hate comment or a criticism, alright?)
I use British English.
DISCLAIMER: Not mine.
WARNINGS: This is a slash story between Mordecai and Rigby. It'll start off with Mordecai and Margaret but then it will soon be Mordecai and Rigby. DON'T LIKE DON'T READ. Any flames will be reported and used to burn your own stories.
Well-enjoy! =D
Episode 7
The night time rolled past them and somehow, it was six in the morning the next day when they woke up. The sunlight that screened through the curtains was a silent wake-up call. Rigby was the first one to move around and started to wake up. His mind was fuzzy and his vision whitened before everything came into view. He sighed a bit when he realised how relaxed he felt. His mind didn't function for a while, even when he saw the soft shade of white and blue in his view.
Tugging on the soft material that he saw, he furrowed his eyebrows when he realised how familiar it felt and looked. Just then, after a few minutes of staring, everything from yesterday washed up in his mind. Eyes widening, he finally caught up to where he was exactly.
He was sleeping next to Mordecai on his bed!
He remembered how Mordecai had looked, as if he wanted Rigby to sleep next to him. Sure, it didn't mean anything but the raccoon's heart didn't listen to his self-reasoning. It just began to beat harder and faster as he realised how comfortable he had felt. This wasn't a normal feeling. No friend would wake up next to his best bud and think 'Oh, this is comfortable. I want to wake up like this every day.'
Yeah, definitely didn't think so.
Rigby felt the same familiar panic attacking and surging him just like yesterday. Just then he felt something gripping around him, tightening its grip. He felt his breath hitch as he let his eyes wander to where Mordecai's arms were around him. The Blue Jay still seemed to be in a deep slumber though. Rigby needed to get out of this position, right now. Before his best pal woke up and started to yell at him for this, he needed to get out.
True, even if the bird asked him to lay next to him and decided to be this close to him, he was still under the influence of medicine. It wouldn't make sense if the real sober Mordecai asked him to do that. Rigby felt panic finally taking over him as he quickly tried to navigate his way out of Mordecai's grip, hoping he wouldn't wake him up.
The last thing he needed was him to wake up.
"What—Dude?" Mordecai's voice croaked out sorely as he realised someone was trying to escape his grip. He cracked open his eyes slightly and realised that it was his best friend. He didn't forget how he had asked Rigby to sleep next to him. He smirked when he realised how flustered the raccoon was, trying to escape. This was what he was trying to aim at.
Rigby, on the other hand, froze as he realised that indeed, Mordecai had woken up. Sighing under his breath, Rigby looked at his best friend, smiling sheepishly. "Hey, morning, man. I'm just leaving now," Rigby said slowly as he finally escaped from the bird's grip.
"Morning, dude," Mordecai greeted back finally as he stretched and sat up. "I feel better already." Rigby couldn't help but to blush slightly, somehow feeling responsible that Mordecai had felt tad better because of him. As foolish as it was that though, he didn't feel disgusted. Strange, he though as he threw it away, thinking it wouldn't be much anything anyway.
Rigby didn't know what else to do as the awkwardness finally greeted itself in his world. What was he supposed to say next? He just woke up snuggled to his best friend, for cheese sake! Mordecai glanced at Rigby who was thinking deeply before smirking. He felt much better and maybe it was because he fell in a slumber immediately. Who knew this raccoon was so comfortable? Maybe that explained why he never really had nightmares whenever Rigby slept over at his place when they were young. The weird feeling disappeared and he didn't think much of it.
Just then, the room door was opened and walked in was Skips and Benson. "Mordecai, are you alright?" Benson asked as Mordecai nodded, grinning.
"Yeah, I'm better."
Benson nodded. "Then get back to work. We don't need any more missing out in chores. We're left behind since you two were off."
"Yeah, okay," Rigby simply said as he took that his cue to escape from being stuck in the same space as Mordecai. Without much hesitation, Rigby walked out of the room and paddled his way to the kitchen for some breakfast.
He seriously needed his head checked.
One of the chores they had to do today was to check the snack shack. Rigby enjoyed working there. It was fun and basically because he could sneak eat some candy bars without anyone noticing—except for Benson but he hoped Benson wasn't coming around any time soon. Rigby and Mordecai stood at the shack, stashing up some of the bars into the shelves to fill them up.
Rigby still had felt honestly awkward. Since this morning, the playful banter between them somehow diminished. Mordecai felt this awkward sensation radiating from the raccoon. He didn't know why but he assumed maybe he had gone a little too far on teasing the raccoon. "Hey, dude," Mordecai called out as Rigby glanced at him.
"What?"
"Thanks for yesterday night, man," the Blue Jay said as Rigby stiffened a bit before he laughed nervously.
"No, problem," he said as Mordecai nodded.
"Don't make it a habit though," Mordecai said suddenly, catching the raccoon off guard. "I don't need you to crawl into my bed every time something ended up scaring you or you want comfort."
Rigby glared at Mordecai, realising that he was back to his normal self. "No way, man! Why would I do that? There won't be a next time." Rigby continued stashing the bars as Mordecai snickered at his best friend.
"Sure, dude."
"Shut your mouth!" Rigby yelled like usual. The horrible awkwardness between them before finally disappeared as Rigby went back to acting childish again and Mordecai teasing him for it. The fun part of the being in charge in the snack shack was basically because they didn't have to do anything, which was a dream come true for slackers like themselves. But then again—Mordecai hasn't been the same slacker since he started dating Margaret.
Just then, walking towards them with her cloudy hair and her big smile, Rigby couldn't help but to smile wide. "CJ!"
CJ, the cloud-like figure, grinned and waved her hand as she finally made towards the snack shack. CJ was a great friend to them and it was clear as day that she had some obvious crush on Mordecai. It was pity that the Blue Jay didn't see it. Rigby was the one who managed to claw the truth from her one day and he had seen her break when she found out that Mordecai was with Margaret now. He hadn't seen her since then but they occasionally talked over the house-line. It seemed that she had moved on but the extent of her truth was still doubtful to Rigby.
To be honest, he had expected that someone like CJ was better for Mordecai than someone like Margaret. But then again, to him, anyone else was better than Margaret. He definitely had managed to express that to everyone that opinion. "Hey Mordecai, Rigby."
"Hey," Mordecai grinned back happily. "Haven't seen you in a while now!"
"Sorry, been busy," she said as she glanced at Rigby knowingly. Rigby smiled back before he listened into the conversation.
"You should've called at least!" Mordecai protested as CJ just continued to grin.
"Sorry, Mordecai," she said sincerely. "So, how are you and Margaret?"
Rigby internally flinched at her name. He tried to look indifferent but it was useless. Both of them knew already how much he hated that Pink Robin. Mordecai shrugged as he smiled wide.
"We're good," he said as CJ beamed up at him.
"That's good to know, Mordecai! Finally scored her, huh?" she asked playfully causing the Blue Jay to blush a bit.
"Well—"
"Well, he was a coward before this, so that's why it took him this long," Rigby cut in as he grinned out the words. CJ just chuckled at them as Mordecai punched Rigby's arm.
"Dude!"
"Ow, I was just joking, man," Rigby said as he rubbed his abused arm. Mordecai just rolled his eyes at his raccoon friend.
"Your jokes are lame, dude," Mordecai said as Rigby scowled at him.
"Whatever," Rigby huffed out as CJ looked at both of them amused.
"Still being the same old Mordecai and Rigby, I see," she continued as Rigby shrugged and Mordecai just smiled. Somehow, that wasn't entirely true and the both friends knew that. They just didn't know where, but there was some kind of crack in their friendship. It was an awkward crack and it was growing, taking off pieces of their trusted foundation with it. Peeling off the base of their friendship and somehow, they feared that one day, it would leave their friendship bare.
But in all honesty, nobody wanted to admit that.
So, they ignored it and figured if they didn't think about, it would all disappear.
After that little meeting with CJ, Rigby found out that Mordecai had wanted to visit his girlfriend. It was their break-time by then and Rigby just scowled at that. "I'm going to see Margaret at the Coffee Shop. Want to grab something to eat with me, dude?" Mordecai asked. Rigby had wanted to deny at first but then realised that maybe, it would be nice to see Eileen again. After all, she had left very awkwardly yesterday.
"Yeah, sure," Rigby said as Mordecai looked at his best pal. He agreed to come with him to see Margaret? Mordecai pondered this for a while before he realised that Eileen was working there as well. Ah, that was why. Suddenly, the bitter acid feeling crept into his heart again, poisoning his thoughts. Why was Rigby so keen on meeting her every day anyway? Was it the truth when his best friend had said that he didn't like her? Mordecai didn't know what to say about what he was feeling, just that he didn't like it.
Quietly, both of them enjoyed the silence as they walked to the Coffee Shop. Mordecai was in his own world meanwhile Rigby just couldn't wait to see Eileen. Eileen was becoming someone close to Rigby and even though he held no romantic connections for her, she was a great friend he could rely on once in a while. It wasn't as if Mordecai was losing his touch as being number one in his life, but the fact that Mordecai had other more important things than the raccoon made him realise that it wouldn't be forever. This friendship was meant to be temporary. One day, he would marry off Margaret or whoever else the lucky girl was and Rigby would be no longer needed.
Then what?
The familiar sting took over his heart as Rigby sighed internally. That debate he head with himself wasn't leading anywhere near to the results. Quickly pushing away his thoughts, he entered the shop. Immediately spotting Eileen, he grinned. Eileen quickly finished attending to the customer before both of them took a seat at a table. Eileen came up to them with a notepad and pen, ready for their order. "Hey guys!" she beamed as Rigby smiled back and Mordecai nodded in response.
"Hey, Eileen," Rigby said.
"Where's Margaret?" Mordecai asked as Eileen smiled small at the bird.
"She took a day off today," she said as Mordecai was taken aback a bit with that.
"Why?" he asked, concerned for what might have happened to her.
"Oh, well, she had the exams coming on, so she needed a day to catch up with her studies," Eileen explained as Mordecai nodded, taking note that he should visit her soon. Rigby just rolled his eyes at his best friend, somehow realising that he was actually happy that the Pink Robin wasn't there to terrorise his peace. "So, what will you guys want today?"
"Coffee," Mordecai said as she nodded.
"Sandwich, I suppose," Rigby said as Eileen jotted that down.
"Alright, be back in ten," she said as she quickly walked away. Rigby slowly looked around the café as the silence between them took over. Glancing at Mordecai, Rigby couldn't help but to be slightly disturbed that his best friend wasn't really paying attention to him. He was somehow in deep thought again.
"Hey, man? Missing Margaret already?" Rigby teased as Mordecai punched his arm playfully.
"Shut up," he said as his blush evident on his face again. Rigby just rolled his eyes irritated at that display.
"So, go and visit her later then," he said casually as Mordecai nodded.
"Yeah, dude. I know," he said. Rigby went back to scanning the café again when his gaze landed on someone. Narrowing his eyes, he tried to get a better look of the person. The familiar person who had light blonde like feathers. He looked awfully familiar, like he had known him before. Just then, the image clicked and Rigby immediately stood up.
Mordecai looked at Rigby's sudden movement as he raised his eyebrows. "What's the matter, dude?"
"Is that…," Rigby slowly said as he sat back down and looked at Mordecai. "Is that Jeremy?"
That name told a million stories to the both of them as Mordecai immediately snapped his head away from Rigby and tried to search for that job stealer. Just like the raccoon had said, he had spotted him, sitting opposite of the café, drinking his cup of coffee as he read the newspaper. "What the H is he doing here?" Mordecai hissed out as Rigby shrugged, shocked as he was.
"Where's Chad?" Rigby asked as he scanned the café again. Mordecai did the same but at the end, they couldn't find him.
"Heh, probably left him anyway," Mordecai said as Rigby smirked at that.
"But they're like you know, best buds or something," Rigby continued as Mordecai shrugged in response.
"I can't find Chad though."
Silence engrossed between them as they stared at Jeremy. Then, Eileen came along with their order. "Here's your coffee and sandwich, guys," Eileen said as she placed the food and the cup of coffee in front of them. Both of them finally broke their stare and looked at Eileen, smiling for a response. "Well, I have a shift to do now. I'll talk to you guys later." With that, she walked away.
Mordecai immediately took his cup and sipped the coffee meanwhile Rigby slowly took a glance at Jeremy, mind boggling for the answer to why he was here. Just then, Jeremy's gaze caught Rigby's. The raccoon was startled as his eyes widened at being caught. Jeremy's eyes were widened slightly as well, probably shocked that he saw the raccoon here. He wasn't even wearing his sunglasses.
Rigby quickly looked away and tried to eat his sandwich. But he felt the burning stare interrupting him. Why was he feeling as if he was being watched? Rigby then finally risked another glance at Jeremy only to realise that his gut was right. Jeremy was staring right back at him and the raccoon was getting pissed off by the minute.
Just then, before Rigby could do anything, Jeremy had stood up. Without hesitation, the bird walked towards their table. "Dude, he's coming this way," Rigby whispered frantically at Mordecai. Mordecai's eyes snapped towards the figure and narrowed, immediately frowning.
"Mordecai and Rigby," he said as Mordecai glared. Rigby glared as well but it didn't last long when Jeremy looked at the raccoon and smirked, causing the small animal to feel a bit intimidated. "Fancy meeting you two here."
"Really? I think we're surprised to see you here," Rigby said irritated as Jeremy looked at the raccoon and smiled.
"Ah, just stopping by to get some coffee," he said casually, his eyes never leaving Rigby. The raccoon felt a tad confused with the way this bird was watching him and he certainly didn't like the vibe either. Mordecai however didn't notice this and just sneered at the obvious presence of his hated enemy.
"You could get coffee elsewhere, somewhere far away from 'jobs for losers' park," Mordecai gritted out as he quoted to what were the last words of both Jeremy and Chad before they left.
It was no secret that Jeremy and Chad were once the replacement for the two best friends. It wasn't their fault (alright, maybe Rigby shouldn't have set the clock to six in the evening instead of six in the morning)—. Well, the truth still lied in where these two fakers tried to steal Mordecai and Rigby's job at the park. Benson was too pleased with their work that he had even wanted to hire them! It wasn't just that, Mordecai really hated Jeremy because of the way he looked. It was like he was an imposter of well—himself. It didn't make sense to why he had felt slightly insecure with the blonde bird but just standing next to him made his blood boil.
Rigby on the other hand, really hated him to the extent where he could just strangle him to death. But then again, besides the job, they never really opposed any harm to them. Sometimes, the raccoon would end up thinking about Jeremy and Chad, wondering where they were but most of the time, it would just piss him off when he thought about how they tried to get into Benson's good book.
"Well, I heard they served the best coffees here," Jeremy drawled out the words as he smirked at Mordecai. The Blue Jay felt mocked with the way this blonde dude was talking and he bawled his hand into a fist. The raccoon just looked away irritated from his presence before taking a bite from his sandwich.
"Where's Chad? Left you already because he couldn't handle you being a stuck-up jerk?" Mordecai asked, smirking back at him bitterly. Rigby somehow felt the silent stab in his heart as he heard the words drawl out. He didn't know why, but that sounded awful. Jeremy and Chad were like Mordecai and Rigby. If Chad left, that just sounded wrong, didn't it? The raccoon shook away the thoughts, realising that he was actually trying to reason a good out of the duo. They were the enemies so he shouldn't ponder so much. Jeremy took a second to reply as he glanced at the small animal, smirking again when he saw how suddenly silent he was.
"Very funny," he said as Mordecai rolled his eyes. "Ah, well, gotta run. Don't want to catch your loser germs on me." Jeremy waved small before he walked away. Rigby just glanced at the bird and glared at him as he retreated away to his table and placed the money on it. Mordecai just huffed out from beside him, clearly agitated with the presence of the bird.
"Come on, dude. Let's get outta here," Mordecai said as he stood up, placing the money on the table and walking out of the café. Rigby took a bit longer as he finished his sandwich and searched for Eileen, trying to let her know that they were leaving. Looking around, he finally spotted her busy with another customer. Maybe he should just leave quietly, she would know if they have left. With that final thought, Rigby wandered out of the café.
Pushing past the doors, the first thing he bumped into was a chest filled with blonde feathers. "What the—"
"Ah, Rigby," the familiar annoying voice spoke as Rigby took a step back and stared at the person who bumped into him. Immediately scowling, he tried to walk away, trying to look for Mordecai. "If you're looking for the Blue Jay, he left already."
Well, that was a shocker. Mordecai wasn't usually the one to leave the raccoon behind. Rigby furrowed his eyebrows at the news and tried to look around for the bird. But just like Jeremy had said, he wasn't around. Could Mordy really have walked off first? That sounded a bit too off for Rigby but he couldn't help but to believe it. Looking back at Jeremy, Rigby just rolled his eyes irritated and decided to leave again. As he was about to take a step past him, another step blocked his path. Sighing, the raccoon was at the limit of being patient with this bird. Even Mordecai didn't agitate him more than he already did.
"What do you want?" Rigby asked as Jeremy chuckled at the tense voice.
"Well, that was straight," he replied casually.
"I have a job to go to, so if you want to say something, be quick," Rigby said quickly, for once in his life, grateful that he had a job.
"Ah, yeah, that job for losers," Jeremy drawled out unsatisfied as Rigby frowned at his words. What was his problem anyway? Why couldn't he just let the raccoon leave?
"Yeah, man. Could you leave me alone now?"
Jeremy immediately snapped back his gaze and looked down at Rigby, who was looking more and more irritated by the minute. The blonde bird slowly smirked before he shrugged. "If you agree to hang out with me tomorrow."
It took a while for the words to settle in before Rigby snapped his head to look at Jeremy, his eyes wide with the words. Had he—Had he heard it right? The Jeremy that tried to steal their jobs was asking Rigby to hang out with him? Rigby didn't know what to think. It felt like a joke to him and for that sake alone, he just chuckled out humourlessly.
"I have to go, Mordecai's probably worried," Rigby muttered as he tried to leave again only to be blocked by Jeremy. The blonde bird just continued on smirking as if it was natural for the raccoon to say that.
"Mordecai doesn't need to know," Jeremy suddenly said, catching Rigby off guard again. "He hangs out with other people all the time."
"Yeah, but not with you or Chad and I'm not going to either," Rigby quickly scowled out the words, suddenly the image of Margaret invading his thoughts. How Mordecai suddenly found her more interesting than him. It hurt but Rigby didn't ponder it too much. He felt this bitter battery acid feeling crawling back to his mouth every time he did. It made him feel sick that he would even be unhappy for his best friend's happiness. Why wasn't he? Rigby felt tired most of the time trying to make sense of what he was feeling, so he would just shut it all down. Jeremy noticed the way Rigby was looking and morphed that smirk into a grin.
"Come on, Rigby. He doesn't need to know. It's not like he's all you have or anything," Jeremy said slowly as Rigby snapped his gaze back at the blonde bird. "I'll wait for you at Wing Kingdom. See you tomorrow."
Before Rigby could retort or even say anything, another familiar voice called out to him. "Dude!"
Rigby quickly snapped his head and looked at his best friend, who was jogging to where he was standing. Looking back to the scene again, he found that Jeremy had already left. Furrowing his eyebrows, the words of what he had said rang into his mind. "Dude! Where were you? I thought you were following me!"
The raccoon looked back at the bird and scratched the back of his neck. "Sorry, man. Got caught up."
Mordecai narrowed his eyes at his best friend's nervousness before he spoke. "I saw Jeremy talking to you. What did he say?"
Rigby almost flinched at the words as he looked at his best friend. He knew that the bird wasn't what his life was made of. He had other better things to do than to be with Mordecai all the time. But the reality was, he didn't want to do anything else besides to be with Mordecai. Play video games with and slack off. That was the only reason why he even followed his best friend all the way to this job. They were best buds, that's what best buds do. However, as time passed, that didn't seem like the case anymore.
Rigby didn't feel as if he mattered to his best friend anymore.
Margaret did.
And even though Mordecai tried his best to balance the time between them, the bitter feeling was still there inside of him whenever he left for Margaret. That was where Eileen came in, to replace that empty spot that Mordecai had given. Now, Jeremy came over and told him that. Of course he knew that! Whatever, he should just forget it. It wasn't as if he was really going to go and see Jeremy tomorrow.
"Nothing, man," Rigby said. "He was being a jerk like usual."
Mordecai remained silent as he tried to search for any trace of lies. But he knew it was futile. Rigby was a skilled liar. A very skilled liar, he could even lie his way out of the biggest apocalypse. He just sighed and nodded at the words, deciding to take it in. Rigby sighed silently in relief before they decided to head back to the park. "Benson's going to get mad at us if we don't get back in time," Mordecai said as Rigby nodded.
"Yeah, we don't need to get fired."
With that, both of them walked back to the park.
