Chapter 7: Daryl Teaches Ed A Lesson

It is morning at the camp site where everybody is doing there own thing. Michael is walking up to greet the Harrison sisters.

"Good morning Andrea." Michael said.

"Good morning Michael." Andrea said.

"You look lovely this morning." Michael said.

"Why thank you, Mikey." Andrea said calling him by his nickname and Michael just smile at her.

"Morning Amy." Michael said.

"Morning Michael." Amy said.

Shane came back to camp with water. Everything was ok until... Someone screams.

"AHHHHH!"

"Mom!" Carl shouted.

"Carl?" Lori asked.

"Dad!" Carl shouted.

"Baby!" Lori shouted.

"Mama! Mommy!" Sophia shouted.

"Rick!" Glenn called as he tossed him a pole.

"Carl! Carl! Baby!" Lori shouted.

"Mom!" Carl shouted.

"You're okay! I've got him. I've got him. Nothing bit you? Nothing scratched you?" Lori asked her son.

"No, I'm okay." Carl said.

The men went to see what scared the kids and they found a walker eating a dead deer with three arrows in it. The walker heard them and stop eating the deer, stood up and growled at them ready to eat them. Rick hits the walker with the pole. Then Shane hit it with the stock on his shotgun. Glenn then hits it with an iron bar. Michael then hits it with a baseball bat which causes the walker to fall to the ground. Then all the men started to hit it over and over. They kept hitting it until Dale finish it by chopping the head off with an axe. The body then lay flat on the ground.

"It's the first one we've had up here. They never come this far up the mountain." Dale said.

"Well, they're running out of food in the city, that's what." Jim said.

A branch snaps and they heard footsteps coming there way. They all have their weapons up and Shane has his shotgun ready for whatever is coming. It turn out to be not a walker but it is Daryl Dixon returning from his hunt.

"Oh,jesus." Shane said.

"Son of a bitch. That's my deer! Look at it. All gnawed on by this (while kicking the walker's body) Filthy, disease-bearing, motherless poxy bastard!" Daryl said.

"Calm down, son. That's not helping." Dale said.

"What do you know about it, old man? Why don't you take that stupid hat and go back to "On Golden Pond"? I've been tracking this deer for miles. Gonna drag it back to camp, cook us up some venison. What do you think? Do you think we can cut around this chewed up part right here?" Daryl asked.

"I would not risk that." Shane said.

Daryl sighs. "That's a damn shame. I got some squirrel. About a dozen or so. That'll have to do." Daryl said.

The chopped head of the walker opens its eyes and starts opening and closing its mouth.

"Oh God." Amy said as she and Andrea walk away.

"Come on, people. What the hell?" Daryl said as he shoots a bolt into the walker head killing the brain. He then pulled the bolt out.

"It's gonna be the brain. Don't y'all know nothing?" Daryl said as he and the others head back to camp.

"Merle! Merle! Get your ugly ass out here! I got us some squirrel! Let's stew'em up." Daryl said as his brother Merle approach him.

"Welcome back, little brother." Merle said as he and Daryl started cut up the squirrels.

"So that's Merle's brother?" Rick asked.

"Yep. He's more focus then his brother is." Michael said.

"You're right on that, Mikey." Shane said.

"But what are we gonna do guys? I mean that was the first Walker up here. Who knows if there is more? I don't think we have enough weapons to protect us with." Michael said.

"Actually we do." Rick said.

"What do you mean, Rick?" Michael asked.

"I have to go back to Atlanta." Rick as he goes to his tent as his family looks at him shocked.

Moments later

Rick comes out of his tent dressed in his sheriff's uniform ready to head out to the city of Atlanta.

"So that's it, huh? You're just gonna walk off? Just to hell with everybody else?" Shane asked.

"I'm not saying to hell with anybody. Not you, Shane; Lori least of all." Rick said.

"Tell her that." Shane said.

"She knows." Rick said.

"Well, look, I don't, okay, Rick? So could you just, could you throw me a bone here, man? Could you just tell me why? Why do you need to go back to Atlanta?" Shane asked.

"So you are just going to Atlanta alone?" Lori asked.

Rick turn to look at Glenn and Glenn knew Rick wanted him to come with him.

"Oh, come on." Glenn said.

"You know the way. You've been there before in and out, no problem. You said so yourself. It's not fair of me to ask I know that, but I'd feel a lot better with you along. I know she would too." Rick said.

"That's just great. Now you're gonna risk you and Glenn?" Shane asked.

"Glenn and me. I'm going also." T-Dog said.

" I appreciate your help." Rick said.

"Well if he's going then so am I." Merle said.

"I don't think so. Not after what you did last time." Rick said.

Merle sighed "I swear on my ma's grave I will not let it happen again." Merle said.

"I don't know if thats a good idea. Mikey, what do think?" Rick asked.

"If he promise not to pull that stunt again he can go but I'll give him something to use instead of his guns." Michael said.

"Okay then, I guess your coming too, Merle." Rick said.

"That's four." Dale said.

"It's not just four. You're putting every single one of us at risk. Just know that, Rick. Come on, you saw that walker. It was here. It was in camp. They're moving out of the cities. They come back, we need every able body we've got. We need'em here. We need'em to protect camp." Shane said.

"It seems to me what you really need most here- are more guns." Rick said.

"Right. The guns." Glenn said.

"Wait. What guns?" Shane asked.

"Six shotguns, two high-powered rifles, over a dozen handguns. I cleaned out the cage back at the station before I left. I dropped the bag in Atlanta when I got swarmed. It's just sitting there on the street, waiting to be picked up." Rick said.

"Ammo?" Shane asked.

"700 rounds, assorted." Rick said.

"You went through hell to find us. You just got here and you're gonna turn around and leave?" Lori asked.

"Dad, I don't want you to go." Carl said.

"To hell with the guns. Why not send Mikey or Shane to go get them? Why you?" Lori asked as Rick approach her. "Tell me. Make me understand." Lori said.

"I owe a debt to a man I met and his little boy. Lori, if they hadn't taken me in, I'd have died. It's because of them that I made it back to you at all. They said they'd follow me to Atlanta. They'll walk into the same trap I did if I don't warn him." Rick said.

"What's stopping you?" Lori asked.

"The walkie-talkie, the one in the bag I dropped. He's got the other one. Our plan was to connect when they got closer." Rick said.

"These are our walkies?" Shane asked.

"Yeah." Rick said.

"So use the C.B. What's wrong with that?" Andrea asked.

"The C.B. 's fine. It's the walkies that suck to crap. Date back to the '70s, don't match any other bandwidth. Not even the scanners in our cars." Shane said.

"I need that bag." Rick said to Lori who has no choice but to let him go to Atlanta to get the guns. Rick then walk up to his son Carl to see if he is okay with it. He kneel down. "Okay?" Rick asked Carl as he nodded his head meaning he's okay with it. "All right." Rick said as ruffle his son hair.

Moments later as Rick and other three were ready to go to Atlanta, Michael calls for Merle to give him what he want Merle to use instead of guns. He is carrying a coffin shaped box with something inside it.

"Here is what you are using in Atlanta." Michael said as he opens the box and he pulled out a ...

"Whoa!" Merle said as he sees that Michael pulled a ...

"The pump-action crossbow! Like the one from the movie "From Dusk Till Dawn". Just like Daryl's crossbow, it's quiet. I'm gonna give this to you to use in Atlanta only this once you can use it. But let me make this clear, DON'T lose any of the arrows. Got that?" Michael said and asked.

"Yeah, yeah. I won't lose any arrows." Merle said as Michael gives him the crossbow. Merle got in the van ready to go. As Rick got done talking with Dale and Jim, Michael calls out to him wanting to said something to him before he go's.

"I know what you meant when I said we don't have enough weapons and you said we do, you meant the guns you had. Just to let you know, come back safety and with those guns too. We thought we lost you before, we don't want to lose you again." Michael said.

"You won't." Rick said.

"Be careful. I love you brother." Michael said.

"I will. I love you too, little bro." Rick said as he and Michael hug. Then as Rick was about to leave, Shane gave Rick four bullets to his Colt Python Revolver to use just in case. Then Rick and the other three guys left going to Atlanta while the others continue what they were doing while they wait for there return.

Moments later down by the lake at camp

Some of the women are washing clothes, Shane is in the lake teaching Carl how to catch frogs when Lori showed up and Shane grabbed Lori and toss her into the water. Lori then did the same thing to Carl. Then they started splashing each other. Michael is watching from where he is near the spot that the women are at and where he can see them. Daryl came walking to him.

"I didn't know you have a crossbow." Daryl said.

"Now you do. Looks like we have one thing in common, we have crossbows." Michael said.

"So, what are you doing standing here?" Daryl asked.

"Waiting." Michael said.

"For what?" Daryl asked.

"Ed to slip up again." Michael said.

"What do you mean again?" Daryl asked.

"Back on the highway, Carol offered some food for Carl. Ed got mad about her giving some of their food away. It looked like he was gonna hit her. I knew one thing from that day, Ed is an abuser. And I've seen bruises on Carol's face." Michael said.

"He hits her." Daryl said.

"Yep. So if he hits her or anybody else, I'll kick his ass." Michael said.

"No, I'll do it." Daryl said.

"Why?" Michael asked.

"Because my dad hit me when I was younger. So I know how she feels right now." Daryl said.

"Oh. I see." Michael said.

They stood there for a few minutes to see if something was gonna happen. Then they heard the women laughing. Then they saw Ed walking towards the women. After that the women kept washing the clothes. Then Michael saw something that ticked him off a bit. Andrea tossed Ed's laundry thinking he wanted do his own laundry. Ed throws it back at her face. Michael was about to go down there and beat Ed's ass, but Daryl stopped him.

"I'll take care of him when he hits one of them." Daryl said.

"Aright." Michael said.

Then Ed try to drag Carol away when the women stopped him. They then argued for a while until Ed did the one thing that pissed Daryl off. He slapped Carol across her face.

"That does it! Hold this!" Daryl shouted as he handed his crossbow to Michael as he ran down to the lake area. The argument between Ed and the women continued until Daryl grabbed Ed.

"Come here, you son of a bitch!" Daryl shout.

"Get off me." Ed said.

Then Daryl dragged Ed and throws him to the ground and starts punching the shit out of him. Shane, Lori and Carl shows up to see what is happening. Daryl kept punching Ed. Punch after punch.

"Daryl that's enough! Daryl stop!" Amy shouted.

"Stop it. Stop." Carol said.

Daryl stopped. Then he gave Ed a warning.

"Now you listen to me, you dumb son of a bitch. If I see you put your hands on your wife, your little girl or anybody else in this camp one more time, I will not stop next time! You understand me? I said you understand me?!" Daryl said.

"Yes." Ed said.

"I'll beat you to death, Ed. I'll (punched him) beat you to death!" Daryl said

Then Daryl got up then kicked Ed's ribs leaving him beaten.

"Bitch!" Daryl said.

Then Carol went check on Ed while the others stood where they were as Michael handed Daryl his crossbow. After that everybody went about their business.

Daryl teaches Ed a lesson... Never hit a woman in froth of a Dixon because you will get your ass whooped.
