Several months went quietly by. No new units came. The other units settled comfortably. Everything was perfect. Well, perfect enough.
For some reason, Vash overreacted to everything that happened and tried to kill anyone who came near me. It was a little frightening at times. I blame it on his company, assuming they treated him roughly.
The other units learned quickly to stay in line because Yao was prone to hitting anyone who annoyed him with a wok. I had been the unfortunate victim of one of these occasions.
Semesters at my school had changed, which meant the first competition of the season would be soon. I was pacing the living room when the clawbot arrived. My teacher had it delivered to my house since a mini blizzard had canceled school for the week. I took the box of robot parts to my office on the downstairs level and began to work. I received many knocks on my door, despite it being locked. After a while, all noise in the house stopped.
Obviously, this worried me. I stood up and walked to the door. I looked up and down the hall, not seeing a living thing. I ditched my efforts on the clawbot, since I was almost done anyways, and searched the entire house. I found all my units crowded into my room. Or rather, the hidden extension in the closet of my room.
"Can I help you?" I glared at each unit.
"What is all this stuff?" Alfred asked first.
"And why were you hiding it, aru?" Yao joined.
"I don't have to tell you anything. Now, if you will. Please GET OUT!" I pointed roughly to the door. My shouting made a few of them move faster. In a matter of seconds, Only Vash and Ivan were remaining. I assumed they were unafraid of me. Big mistake.
"What is all this for?" Ivan asked with an innocent smile on his face. I looked around at the clutter surrounding the benches and chairs.
"It's a family tradition. I was the unlucky one to get trapped with this," I sighed.
"But what is this?" Vash asked, motioning to a cluster of pictures. I walked over and picked one up. In the picture was a wolf that had marble-colored fur. A tiny-looking human was perched on its head.
"This is-" I was interrupted by the doorbell. I happily found the distraction as an escape and dashed from the room. "I'll get it!"
I opened the door to reveal the unit owner from Halloween.
"Hello! What brings you here?" I asked politely. Matthew was hovering behind me.
"I thought we could get to know each other better," was the other's response. I could see the England unit from Halloween just behind the boy who was probably my age.
"Because we both have units?" I guessed.
"Seems legit," he responded.
"I'm Emily," I offered a hand.
"I'm Chris," he shook my hand and glanced past me.
"Please, come in," Matthew offered before I could. I shot him an exasperated look, but I couldn't stop the smile edging in on my face.
"Yes, please do," I stepped back from the door and motioned into the house in a sweeping gesture. That was when I realized Vash was on my other side.
"This isn't over," said gunslinger whispered into my ear. I glanced outside and saw the truck making its way down my driveway.
"I'll be back," I whispered to Matthew.
When the two guests were settled, I went to wait in the front porch. When the delivery man finally settled the crate, he noticed me.
"What for?" I asked.
"We noticed you hadn't ordered another unit recently. Because of your previous issues with our company, we decided to give you a complementary unit in hopes that you continue with our service," I could tell he recited from memory. I sighed and held out a hand for the clipboard.
After signing the papers, the man tipped his hat and left. I watched him back out of the dirveway and turned to the box. I took a step inside the doorway and called out.
"IVAN GET YOURSELF DOWN HERE BEFORE I USE YOUR PIPE ON YOU!" I mentally counted from 10 to 0, a perfect count on Ivan landing on the bottom step at 0.
"Da?" he asked.
"Wake your sister up. I don't want to be smothered," His emotions flickered three times before he settled on relieved. I left him at the door and rejoined my guests.
"Sorry, guys. Delivery man had bad timing," I apologized.
"It's alright," Chris responded.
"So what should we talk about?" I asked with a nod.
"How many units do you have?" Chris started. I mentally tallied the units and shook my head.
"Seven units. And yourself?" I countered.
"Only five," Chris nodded.
"That's still a hefty amount." Chris nodded again.
The England unit leaned over and whispered something in Chris' ear, not taking his eyes off of me. I rose an eyebrow questioningly, a smirk
barely evident on one side of my mouth. Chris glanced at him before returning his attention to me.
"It seems rather foolish that you would simply allow someone into your home without knowing them," Chris stated plainly.
"It would be impolite if I refused you. It is rather cold outside, after all," I retorted calmly.
"And in an instant, the world crashes down," I froze at his words. I had only heard them once before, as a warning. I narrowed my eyes.
"Your world or mine?" I asked.
"Both?" Chris questioned, a smirk tugging the edges of his lips upward.
"And this involves me, how?" I relaxed only a slight bit to make him think I had let my guard down. I noticed a shadow partially hidden behind the kitchen counter.
"You took over after your chief died, didn't you?" Chris knowingly asked.
"Why should I share something like that with someone like you?" I challenged.
"So you did," Chris said simply. "Leader of the clan now, hm? Ready to take on an enemy? I forgot! You're the little oddball. Too tiny to fight like your kin. All of you will blink from existence anyways."
"My kin will tear you feather from feather," I whispered dangerously, making sure the shadow couldn't hear. "I suggest you leave before I pitch you up as an example and leave your units homeless."
"I'll accept your challenge. From one leader to another, I wish you luck in this disastrous battle," Chris calmly got up and left, leaving me completely shocked. Was he the leader of- No. He couldn't be…
As soon as he was gone, I fled to the safety of my room. I practically knocked the closet door off its hinges trying to get to the secret room. Matthew was waiting there. I ignored him, running to one of the desks. I picked up the phone and dialed a number, waiting for the person on the other end to pick up. As soon as I heard the crackling voice greet me with worry, I shouted one thing.
"They're coming for us."
A/N: So I finally found my old plot for this story. It might be shitty, but it's all I have. Thank you for reading and please review!
