When Merlin woke, it was not yet dawn. He couldn't quite get his head around the fact that she was gone.

He needed to see her, but, obviously he knew that was impossible. He had no idea where she was, after all.

He tiptoed around to Arthur's Chambers.

"Merlin, in here!" he spun around, surprised, and spotted Gwen. A delighted laugh escaped from his lips. "Gwen, I- The letter- You-"

"Shush, we don't have much time!" She giggled and pulled Merlin into a nearby room.

"Gwen, You- I can't do this anymore, I can't do it to Arthur. Why did you write that letter if you're still here?" Merlin was so confused, he had no idea what was going on.

"Merlin!" Gwen sighed, kissing him.

"Gwen! You can't do this! Why are you being so- so- heartless, what about Arthur!"

"Arthur does not need to know about this. I no longer live in this castle. I want to be with you, Merlin, this is the only way!"

"No, you love Arthur; you have to be with Arthur!" As if he'd heard them, Arthur came through the door.

"Guinevere?" Arthur beamed; the obvious delight on his face made Merlin want to cry, "You're back. But- The letter- what's going on?!"

"Hello, Arthur, I-" She stuttered, tripping on her words as she stared her husband in the face, "I don't want to see you, I was with Merlin, please, leave me alone."

Arthur coughed, almost choking with surprise, "What is going on Guinevere!" Arthur shouted, right in his wife's face, "Why won't you talk to me, why is it always other people?!"

"I don't want to talk about it; I need to talk to Merlin!" Gwen screamed back at him, Merlin wondered whether he's overstayed his welcome.

"Why? What is Merlin worth that I am not?!" Arthur asked, looking straight through his manservant.

Merlin sighed and exited the room without a word. He could hear Gwen and Arthur arguing.

It was driving him mad. He wanted to be with Gwen so much, but he didn't want to hurt Arthur, there was a slight chance that he would have to hurt people he loved, and he did not want to do that.
