A/N: So! I finally have it! Chapter seven! Ta-da! Sorry it took so long....please forgive me?
Disclaimer: Yu-Gi-Oh is not mine.
Warnings: I typed all of this all day, I was rushing like mad and hoping to get it to a suitable length. So, as per usual, there's probably a lot of mistakes. I'll go back and edit in due time, I promise!
-Note- It start's in Aurora's POV even though I left off with Seto. Now, on to the show!
The secretary at the Kaiba Corp. desk intimidated me so much that I nearly turned around and walked straight back to the hospital. But, I sucked in a large breath and plucked up what little courage I had and marched straight up to her. Her narrow brown, eagle-like eyes passed over me with a hint of recognition. Her curly black, satin hair weaved all the way down her back and the white button-up blouse and short pink skirt did nothing to hide the perfect figure she had. So perfect, I could feel my self-esteem levels beginning to drop. It wasn't that she seemed unkind or mean, it was just... the perfection.
"Aurora," she said in a warm tone, acknowledging me even though I hadn't introduced myself. "I haven't seen you in a while. I didn't know you were dispatched from the hospital or even woke up. How are you?" She seemed entirely sincere which made me think she didn't know I had lost my memory. I quickly glanced down at her name plate.
"I'm fine, Gloria. Thank you for asking. How about you?" She shrugged, it seemed normal for her to speak casually to me. From that I gathered that, to the very least, we were acquaintances.
"Everything's been like hell for the past three months, which I'm sure you can understand. Kaiba has been really out of it, sometimes moody- even by his standards. Sure he would claim that there was nothing wrong with him but sometimes, you just know. But this morning when he walked in, he seemed… different. Guess I know why now."
I nodded, also being casual. She laughed at me.
"Well here you are Aurora, being quiet as usual and me yakking away as usual. I guess some things never change, do they? I'm sorry. You wanted to see Seto?"
I nodded again, smiling.
"Hang on a sec, let me page him." She pressed a button on her phone's receiver and we waited silently for a moment. Barely two seconds had passed before there was a small beep and Kaiba's voice issued from the speaker.
"What is it, Gloria? I'm a little busy here." I noticed his voice sounded rough, demanding, and not at all patient.
"Aurora Mutou is here to see you." I held my breath, not wanting to make a single sound. He now knew I had escaped from the hospital. Whether it would be worth it or not was entirely up to him now. But Kaiba's pause seemed to drag for so long that I thought he wouldn't answer.
"Send her in immediately," he finally ordered before hanging up. I exhaled a sigh of relief; maybe he would be cooperative after all.
Gloria pressed a button hidden within her desk. As a result, a section of the wall beside the desk slid open to reveal a small empty compartment. A secret elevator, I suddenly realized. Gloria gestured toward it.
"Seto doesn't use his public office much nowadays," she explained. I slowly walked inside of it. "I'm not sure if you used this much before the accident but his office is on the top floor, just like the other one." I nodded.
"Thank you," I said before I pressed the button for the top floor. The wall slid back into place, Gloria's face disappearing from view, and the elevator began to ascend slowly.
Gloria knew about my mysterious accident but I didn't think she had worked at Kaiba Corp. very long before that seeing how she didn't know if I had used the secret elevator before. It was all fine for me considering I didn't know which floor Kaiba's office was on anyway. All the same, she seemed very nice and cordial, as if we had had gotten along pretty well before. I wondered why I was intimidated by her at first. Sure she was beautiful by any normal standards but that didn't really seem like logical reason to be afraid of someone.
I asked the black hole if it had anything of Gloria in it. But there was no answer. I frowned. It wasn't as if the black hole didn't have an answer, it just seemed reluctant to divulge any information. I pressed my attention into it but the memories it seemed to be hiding were blocked.
Why were they blocked? What was wrong with Gloria?
Could you at least tell me her last name? I asked it. The black hole gave me a mental head shake. Annoyed, I mentally rammed my mind into its barriers but it still refused to answer my questions.
What's wrong with you? I thought I was supposed to get my memories back! I yelled at it. Suddenly, my eye sight blurred and my consciousness was pulled into the deep recesses of my mind…

When I blinked, it seemed as if I were standing in the middle of a bright and sunny meadow in front of a duplicate of myself- like the reflection from the hospital's bathroom mirror. I stared at it, dumbfounded. It was scowling at me.
"Do not think of me as a duplicate or clone!" it snapped in a light and airy voice, my voice. I blinked.
"You can read my mind?"
"Of course I can! This is your mind."
"So who are you?"
"I am you. Sometimes you refer to me as the black hole and it's really starting to get on my nerves."
"What?" I was utterly confused,
"Reach out with your right hand," she commanded. I did as she said. My fingertips came into contact with a smooth glass surface…
"A mirror," the reflection answered.
"So what does it mean?"
"It just means that I am you- not a black hole full of memories. The memories you seek- like the ones of Gloria- I cannot give."
"Why not?"
"Because in your accident, you experienced a considerable amount of trauma and that trauma is what's blocking your memories. The trauma will not alleviate unless you are ready to handle the memories. Remember when at the hospital you experienced those two memories?"
"Yeah…" I said slowly, thinking back to this morning. It seemed ages ago.
"Remember how you suddenly felt fatigue and sudden stress afterward?"
"Yes," I said thinking back for a short second.
"Well that is what I mean when I say you have to be ready to handle the memories."
"Well how can I be ready to handle more? I'm tired of asking everyone questions and getting vague answers." She shrugged.
"Through time and experience. Sometimes something cataclysmic occurs, usually something that happened in your previous life and the memories can all come back at once or, to the very least, you could get a sense of identity."
"So what am I suppose to do? Hope that a similar accident happens to me again? According to Yugi, my accident must have been something extremely horrendous!"
"No, experiencing the accident again wouldn't help anything. But I do think you were right about one thing- Seto Kaiba would be your best bet to find your answers. Remember when before you fell asleep, you told him it wasn't his fault?" I had to pause and think back for a moment to remember that one.
"Yeah."
"Well, think about it. I think that may have been your subconscious trying to settle something. Like the accident- Seto Kaiba was probably involved with it and felt extremely guilty about it. Your subconscious knew that and wanted him to stop feeling guilty."
"But why?" She raised an eyebrow.
"Isn't it obvious? You're in love with him." My face inflamed with bright red heat at that statement.
"Aurora Mutou was in love with him," I defended.
"And you ARE Aurora Mutou. You need to start embracing that fact or otherwise the memories will be harder to retrieve!"
"But I don't even know the guy-"
"Aurora, look at the clues-" I flinched at my name. "When you first woke up and saw Kaiba you thought he was beautiful. If you were indeed in love with him, you're going to fall in love with him all over again."
"But how can I if I'm not the same person?" She smiled sadly.
"You are the same person. You even have the exact same personality- quiet, insecure, pessimistic, and stubborn all the same." That threw me off slightly. From all that I had heard, I expected Aurora to be the epitome of goodness- perfection.
When I blinked again, the meadow had disappeared and I was standing back in the elevator.
"That was strange," I mumbled to myself as the elevator door slid open to present a long, narrow hallway. I gingerly stepped out into it as the elevator door slid silently shut behind me. When I glanced behind, the only thing I could see was the wall.
I turned back around and took a deep breath as I faced the door in front of me. The door, a thin piece of wood and the only thing that stood between me and Kaiba. Before I could chicken out on this, I quickly stepped up to this door and knocked. It was a small, tentative knock but albeit, a knock. I held my breath as I waited for the reply.
It came quickly.
"Come in," said the smooth baritone voice. I obeyed and cautiously stepped inside.
Kaiba was casually leaning back in his office chair, his pale face placid. I closed the door behind me and took a few steps toward his desk. With a slight twitch, his thin mouth lifted up into a small smile.
No, not a smile. His sharp eyebrows didn't suit the expression of a smile. It was a smirk. A breathtakingly beautiful smirk. I suppressed the small shiver working its way down my spine.
"So the invalid manages to rid herself of the warden," was his greeting. Before I could reply to this very odd statement, he quickly and absolutely fluidly rose to his feet. "Come on," he said. "I'll take you back to the hospital." I blinked at him, eyes going wide. He seemed so calm about this- made a small joke about it even. It was definitely not the reaction I was expecting… and not the one I was going to accept either.
"What?" came my small quiet voice. His smile-slash-smirk was wiped away. His face was completely serious, all trace of playful jokes gone. Maybe he wasn't as calm about it as I originally thought.
"Dr. Tutsagi called me just before Gloria paged me. Now come on, I'm going to take you back to the hospital." I frowned. The black hole- er- my consciousness squirmed at the sound of Gloria's name on his voice.
"I'm not going back to the hospital," I said stubbornly, setting my features into an unhappy expression. My persistence seemed to stump him for a moment.
"What are you talking about? You're sick, Aurora, and I'm taking you back."
"I'm perfectly fine!" I snapped. Kaiba scowled, definitely not calm.
"So you've remembered everything then?" His voice was sharp, sarcastic, as if he already knew the answer to it. His mocking countenance irritated me.
"Well, no, but that's not the point." He folded his arms across his chest, an impatient and resigned manner.
"Then please explain to me what is- if you're perfectly fine and still have no memory. Which reminds me, how did you find this place anyway, if you have no memory?" His attitude confused me, as if he blamed me for the memory-loss.
"I asked for directions," I said flatly. His eyes widened slightly for a fraction of a second but then returned to normal size. It occurred so fast I could have missed the action. But I tried to not let that distract me. Kaiba sighed, he was getting annoyed.
"Why did you leave the hospital?" he asked in a tired voice.
"To ask you some questions."
"And what makes you think I'm going to answer them?" I opened my mouth, closed it, thought for a moment and opened it again to speak.
"Well what makes you think I'm ever going to get my memory back?" There was no mistaking his reaction this time. His eyebrows lifted, disbelievingly, and his arms fell to his side, as if he had been defeated.
But then he recovered. Eyes narrowing, he walked around to the front of his desk and crossed his arms again.
"Well then, ask away." I left no expense at his invitation.
"What happened to me three months ago that put me into the hospital?" That was really the only answer I wanted. The other questions I had asked Yugi and his friends were merely trivial, just to keep them happy.
But as soon as I asked that question, I knew I had reached a road block from the look in Kaiba's eyes. The blue eyes seemed to be on fire and I realized he was angry. His anger was so frightening that it took everything I had not to cover my head with my arms and hide somewhere. He lowered his arms to his side again, hands balled up into fists.
"What did Yugi tell you?" he demanded. It took me a moment for me to register what he was saying.
There was sudden parental feeling inside of me, supplied by my consciousness. He thought Yugi had told me something that made me want to confront him. He was going to blame Yugi for this? The parental feeling also gave me a sudden burst of courage to stand up to Kaiba.
"Yugi didn't tell me anything!" I snapped. "No one has. That's why I'm here, genius." The fiery anger in his eyes dimmed and his fingers loosened from their tight-fisted grip.
"I'm not answering that question." He said that quietly and with a sense of authority and finality. As if he had control over what was said in the conversation.
"Why not?" I asked, my voice softer than it had been. Almost pleading. He looked away from me to the floor.
"I just can't, Aurora." He wouldn't say anything else for the moment so a long silence dragged on before I could think of anything else to say.
"I don't understand you," I grumbled. He glanced up at me with cold, expressionless eyes, still not saying anything else.
"I don't understand why you hate me so much," I continued. "I know I've lost my memory but it's not like it's my fault." He flinched. Maybe he did hate me, Aurora, even in the past life. Just because he promised he'd be my friend didn't mean he supposedly loved me even though she…. I love him. I shuddered at that.
"I don't hate you, Aurora," he said carefully. The expressionless eyes, contradictory to his statement, regarded me for a minute. "How do you feel about me, Aurora?"
The question, so sudden, threw me off guard. One minute we were arguing and the next we were sharing each other's feelings? His moods swings were giving me a headache.
Still, there was nothing I could do to stop the small pink blush touching my cheeks. Now why did that happen? It made no sense.
"I-I-I'm not sure," I admitted. "Part of me wants you to accept me and still, part of me is…. afraid." To my complete and utter surprise, I had realized that what I just said was completely true. And it only made my face grow hotter. Kaiba lifted his face fully to gaze at me curiously.
It was then, to my great annoyance, yet another flashback occurred.

SETO'S POV
She had just admitted that she wanted my acceptance and that she was afraid. It was really hard to hold back now. She may have lost her memories but she was still the same person, she just didn't see herself like that. But I still had to be careful, not to get too overzealous- as it was easy to do so around her. The memories would come to her but I had to let them and not to confuse her with what is now and what was then.
Her blush darkened slightly- still the same old Aurora- and then something strange happened. Her eyes dimmed out of focus and her face suddenly seemed stressed. She crouched to the ground, wrapping her arms around herself. I was suddenly over to her, my hand on her shoulder, hovered above her.
"Aurora? Aurora? Aurora! Speak to me!" I remembered this. She did this same thing when she was at the hospital. Dr. Tutsagi had said she was probably having a flashback so what was she remembering now?
This flashback didn't seem to last as long as her first one did. She didn't scream, just moaned a bit. It made me uneasy to be so helpless around her. But after a short minute, her trembling subsided and she looked up at me, face inches away.
"Are you okay?" I asked quietly. With a small flash of her eyes, she seemed to realize where she was again. She quickly straightened up and glared at me full force.
"I'm fine," she said sharply. I straightened up as well, standing a good foot over her.
"Do you need anything?" I asked uncertainly, wondering what she could have possibly seen that would make her angry like this.
"I don't need anything, especially not from you. Just leave me alone." She turned away and stormed out of the door. I blinked and went after her. Out in the hall, she somehow had managed to find the button that opened the secret elevator and was waiting on it to open.
"What's gotten into you? Where are you going?" She whirled around toward me angrily.
"Nothing is wrong with me, whatsoever. I just can't figure out why you would pay for my bills." She was good with the sarcasm.
"Bills?" I asked, confused. She sighed exasperatedly as she pulled her bag off her shoulders and pulled out a red folder. She threw it at me. I raised my arms in time for it not to hit my nose but then a lot of white papers were scattered across the hall. I glanced down at one gliding toward the ground. It was her hospital bills…
"Is there something wrong with paying for your hospital bills?" I asked, offended. The wall slid open revealing the inside of the elevator compartment. She marched in and turned around to me.
"Nothing at all. I just don't understand why you would waste the money on me when it could be used on Gloria." She hissed the secretary's name with sheer venom. My eyes widened innocently; I think I could guess which memory she had just seen.
So, what did you think? As far as my usual chapters go, this is pretty long in comparison to some. Sorry to leave you hanging without the flashback she just had. I promise to update sooner! But I need reviews! NEED!!!! If I took a whole day off from school to work on this for you, then I would like some reviews! Please!
Okay, give me reviews and I promise Chapter Eight will come more quickly!
Thankies!
