So secondary conflict time and since I'm know at least one of you figured out who they are fighting I'll just go ahead and say it. The Quarians the, humanitarian (if applicable) crisis of the universe. Reason for this well in all the others stories that I've read that are like this the human/Terran faction always helps the Qaurians. Here's a list of what I've seen.

Cure for their weak ass immune systems

Come stay in our space and we'll protect you, just because (From the Ashes was the only story that gave a justifiable reason for this.)

And the one that made me go WTF. Here's a biological impossibility planet that we found but you can have it because we're nice. (this was in a Halo/ME crossover, can't remember which one though).

This is just really repetitive and pisses me off, just why? Why the hell would the UNSC or whatever the author changed them into, give a planet to a race they just met, after war where several of their worlds were burned. I have a few other rants regarding this type of crossover but none really relative to the story at hand. So the Quarians for the first time on the freaking internet are the bad guys.

Over the past year the Red Faction has kept mostly to themselves working on developing existing colonies and current military organization. Such as the fleet the reason the Red Faction built such large ships was that their belief that when Earth would attack again they would have a fleet of dreadnoughts, imagine their surprise when they learned their ships outclassed even the other species definitions of ship size so they have been focusing on building smaller ships for colony based patrol and defense.

Also when the RF informed the citizens of Mars that the Alliance wasn't the only thing out there recruitment rates skyrocketed. This of course ended with last of the cultist finally being neutralized. As task force of Red faction and Marauder forces scoured the badlands driving the cultist back to a stronghold containing two thousand members. A team of RF and Marauder commandos. There job was to secure the gate, they ended up killing half the defenders before they accomplished their objective. However a large amount of mutants from the Cultist experimenting with an actual super soldier program escaped out a back entrance and were lost in a sudden dust storm. Since then the Parker and Dust sectors have come under attack by these mutants every time a dust storm arrives

The Galactic news stations recorded the RF's takeover of the citadel this shocked the community. It created doubt with the council's ability to handle matters such as these, and anger with the Alliance for hiding such a serious threat. The reason why no one spoke of the Red Faction is because so few of the EDF soldiers made it off mars it was easy to hide the truth. So the Earth Defense Council said that the Martian colony was in a state of total chaos due to the 'Red Faction terrorist group' and 'Barbaric Marauders', that it was beyond saving and all travel was banned. Having now knowing the truth a media group decided to make a documentary on the Martian colony the Head General agreed and had the now Gunnery Sergeant Grayson Hunt escort them. Notably they were cut out in a sand storm when going through the badlands on the way to the Marauders, who also gave their consent. As usual the cultist experiments were attracted to the group so GSGT. Hunt moved them into an old Ultor ruin and fended off the attack. This showed firsthand the skill of a Red faction commando and what could be considered the wildlife of Mars. When the documentary was released it received rather high rates among the known galaxy. Minus the Turians due to Grayson being somewhat of a public enemy among Turians

The Red Faction encountered a new species on Kepler and as with previous encounters started with bullets, ten aliens died before the rest surrendered and apprehended by the RF squad that found them, they took no losses. They were discovered to be Quarians a nomadic race of aliens who lost their home to a terminator style robot revolution. They were an advanced scouting group from the home fleet that was planning on strip mining the planet. The RF soldiers many of whom fought hard to keep this planet out of alien hands didn't take kindly to this and the Quarians were thrown in prison.

The Head General Yuri Mikhailovich was sitting across a desk, his desk from an alien, now this species wanted to negotiate trade and prisoner release first stop military technology with the Head General. Much to his reluctance. The reputation of these Quarians weren't exactly great. Not that the Red Faction had much to say themselves in that matter. "So you want to barter for Red Faction military equipment? Do you mind specifying what you want exactly?" said the General eyeing the alien

"Certainly, we are mostly interested in your plasma and nano technology." Said the Quarian in a friendly tone. The General sighed regardless, he should have seen that coming those were the only things the RF specialized in. that and the fact there basic guns reload like normal, a feature that the rest of the galaxy considers primitive. Totally ignoring the fact the typical RF soldier can reload faster than it takes for the standard issue assault rifle using mass effect technology to cool down. Not to mention the ability to fire off more rounds. "In exchange we have some considerably advanced agricultural technology we would be willing to hand over."

"Yeah that's not happening." Said the General stone faced "Our plasma and nano weaponry is a closely guarded secret of Mars in its entirety , and the nano-technology is illegal in council space is it not?"

"This is true but the board of admirals deemed it to be worth whatever legal action taken against us." Said the diplomat, as if expecting this response.

"May I ask why?" said Yuri getting kind of annoyed

"Us, Qaurians have an incredibly weak immunes system even on our own planet they were weak compared to other species. However it only worsened when we fled into the stars from the Geth thus even on our own ships we need to wear the environmental suits you see me in now." Said the Qaurian "However after reviewing the now declassified history of your race we believe this technology can be used to strengthen our immune system and may even be the way to take back our home system."

"Now you mentioned the word Geth." Said Yuri. Seemingly unmoved by his story. "I take this is the species that chased you out of your homes." The Qaurian chuckled

"No the Geth are not a species there AI's in mechanical bodies, made to serve us." Said the Qaurian.

"And why did they attack you?"

"Our ancestors began upgrading the Geths programming to complete more complex tasks like combat, for defense along with construction and manufacturing. However they began to reach a level of sentience." Said the Quarian whose tone turned mournful "Our ancestors decide to put them down before they could become a threat however we were too late and the Geth retaliated this started what we called the Mourning War and left billions of my people dead and even uprooted us from our home."

"So let me get this straight." Said the General who seemed unmoved at the story "You're people made machines which you used as slaves, gained sentience and then you decided to put them down? Isn't a sentient beings first instinct when attacked is to fight or flee? I also don't see how our nano technology will fit into this."

"Ah yes, our scientist believe we can repurpose them to be able to change the Geth back to submissive state." Said the Quarian.

"So you basically want to enslave a sentient race" said the General getting a bit ticked "That fought a war for their survival against your race that instigated it in the first place."

"No I have stated that the Geth are not a race, you'll be helping homeless race retake their homeland" said the Qaurian getting kind of worried at the generals tone.

"Alright listen here" said the general letting out a breath to control himself "If I did not want to give the nano-technology to you before, then right now I want to shoot you…so please get out of my office before I give into my urges! I will not have RF technology be used to enslave another race machine or otherwise!" at this point the general had his side arm drawn and the Quarian hurriedly left the room in a panic being rejoined by some confused Quarian marines outside. However approaching the gate that panic turned to rage.

"Listen here Red Faction! The Quarians finally have a chance to return home, if you think we will stop after this you have another thing coming!" his shouting was beginning to be taken as hostile as several EXO's and Infantry forces are moving in on them guns raised.

"Soldiers please escort the Qaurian delegation away from base" came the commanders cold tone over the intercom. The soldiers wondered what turned their Generals normally friendly attitude to something like that. Never the less they had their guns trained on the Quarians who backed away in slight fear. A shuttle came down from them and picked them up flying back to their ship and orbit which promptly left the solar system.

A week later the entire Qaurian flotilla announced that it was going to war against the Red Faction. Many were shocked, the Qaurians were a peaceful albeit disliked race, they usually tried to avoid conflict all together. Others however thought as two Galactic nuisances fighting each other and that the Citadel Council didn't need to interfere in it.

The Red Faction on the other hand was busily preparing to defend their home, from what they know RF soldiers are a lot better at combat than the Qaurians, however the main problem was the large migrant fleet the Quarians were known for. Which had 50,000 vessels though probably not all of them were war ships it was still a staggering number to the dozens of ships the RF had spread out over their three planets even with the marauders fleet added to that they were still drastically outnumbered…Not like that kept the RF from victory before.

A month later the Migrant fleet made it into the Sol system the entire fleet was approaching Mars. But in this month the RF did not sit back and wait for them to come. They have had some of their smaller cruiser class ships use hit and run tactics on patrol vessels of the Quarians and with their plasma beam weaponry they tore several ships up before exiting via FTL before the Quarians could retaliate. This tactic took hundreds of Quarian ships out of commission either destroyed or to extensively damaged to fight, without any losses to the RF raiders themselves. It also helped that every nearby slaver or pirate tried to take a piece of the Quarians albeit unsuccessfully.

But know the Migrant fleet was at the Red Factions door the bulk of the military vessels converged on Mars. While leaving a small group to guard the civilian and live ships just outside the asteroid belt. Far enough from danger but close enough for a group from the invasion force to come back if anything were to happen. Or so they thought. The Red Faction and Maruaders set up a group of commandos from both sides in three special made containers in the asteroid belt. The Red Faction general guessed that since that Quarians would leave there civilian ships away from the fighting and the asteroid belt seemed like a good spot. So the commandos in groups of eight unnoticed by the patrol ships emerged from the containers. Using re-purposed EDF armor and Ultor security gear as EVA battle suits they made their way into the civilian fleet. Their targets were the Quarian live ships.

As oppose to other confrontations against alien threats the Red Faction had knowledge and time to prepare. They used intel gained from the recently accessed Extranet to research the Quarians and learned the bulk of their food for the entire fleet was kept in three massive ships known as live ships.

Goal of the mission infiltrate and storm the ships and take control in order to get the fleet to stand down. The operation was a success and the Quarians had no choice but to surrender. There was a minor incident in an attempt by the Quarians to retake the ship which failed horribly and many Quarian marines were killed going up the better trained and equipped Martian commandos. Grayson Hunt also notably took part in the mission causing many Qaurians who heard of him and recognized the hetero-chromic commando surrendered on the spot. It was a decisive victory for the Red Faction having only minor damage to their ships with no loss of life while during the battle the Quarians lost 752 ships from the raids and the battle over mars.

The Quarians were then allowed to leave without any further bloodshed. All this being recorded by an Alliance news network ship that decided to record the battle despite the danger, and the whole galaxy learned of yet another victory by the Martian people over a numerically superior force.

This battle also set the seeds for a military alliance between the Red Faction and the Marauders calling themselves the MDF, or Mars Defense Force. The name ironically bearing great resemblance to the foe they first fought together against so many years ago. The MDF engages in joint protection by the two Martian states of all colonies developed by the Martian people, along with pooling military resources.

On another note of humanity working together, the Systems Alliance decided to try a sort of cohabitation of military personnel on colonies. In other words commandos who have nothing better to do, due to the cultist threat finally being over. The most notable of these being Gunnery Sergeant Hunt.

"So you want me to go to an System Alliance colony because of this 'let's at least try to be friends' deal we have going on with them?" Asked Grayson. he was standing in General Mikhailovich's office who nodded at the question. "Why?"

"The Martian council decided you'd be one of the best candidates, due to your notoriety among galactic entities."

"I'm not that noticeable." Said Grayson in a easy going manner in an attempt to play down his status. The general arched an eyebrow.

"Yes you are." Said the General flatly. "Since our arrival on the galactic scene, you have so far single handedly killed a large number of enemies causing the rest to retreat while wielding a sledgehammer, and this from a species who is known not to retreat, took the what could qualify the as the face of the known galaxy hostage, the released POW's from the Kepler conflict to showed fear at the sight of you in front of a news camera, also there are reports of Quarians surrendering at the sight of you."

"Those are true by the way." Put in Grayson "But why me?"

"Like I said officially they think you're a good candidate." Said Yuri before going to a joking tone. "Although I'm actually pretty sure they're worried you might blow something up out of boredom."

"Sounds about right." Said Grayson in a joking manner.

"Well anyways it's already decided and an Alliance transport will arrive tomorrow to take to a colony called Eden Prime, one of their most developed and far reaching colonies."

"And they want me who has track record…which I know they asked for before I got green lighted…" said Grayson as the general nodded. "Of insubordination, destructive tendencies, and what some might call overkill, to go to a rather valuable colony."

"They believe that the Alliance forces on the planet would be enough handle you if you were to try something." Replied the General

"I doubt that." Said Grayson, this was not boasting it was a statement.

"Also due to the strict AI laws enforced by the citadel council S.A.M. will be remove from your nano-forge. Instead we'll have neural implant so you can mentally activate the Nano forge." Said the general, the Nano forges were managed by the AI installed on the commandos tool they would interpret what the commando would wanted by hand signs they had and by the situation at hand. Grayson gave a lax salute before leaving "and make sure you behave yourself!"

"No promises!" Grayson called back as he was already a way down the hall

Red Faction Handbook

Marauder commando: the counter part to the Red Faction commando. Marauders prefer stealth to full on fire fights RF Commandos. Many cultist have had a quantum charge go off at their camps in the middle of a quiet night before promptly having their throat slit. Marauders got back to tradition of preferring to stab and cut opponents as oppose to shooting them. Entire camps fell without a single gun shot.

Red Faction Cruiser: A recent design to the red faction navy, the cruiser was made to conserve resources seeing as how the ships of their possible enemies were much smaller than predicted and that they had no defense against plasma weaponry. The Cruiser only needs seven men to operate it, a commander, a pilot a, navigation officer, two gunners and two engineers if anything were to go wrong. The ship is armed with two plasma beam cannons on a 360 degree rotatable turret. and two rapid fire Gauss cannons at the front and back end to intercept fighters and missiles, and a front mounted missile/torpedo launcher

So short as hell and not really much action, but sets the stage for what happens next, this is pretty much me taking out my annoyance on the Quarians. Yes you got banished from your home and no one comes to help you. But it was your fault. Stop complaining. So yeah fuck the Quarians.

Also the reason for me for removing S.A.M. is because if you haven't noticed in the past chapters hasn't really had that much of a role, i'd often have to go back and put in dialogue to remind people she was there.

and in case your still reading this I had this little saying i wanted to put in but couldn't find a place to do it. well here it is

"The reason for the Quarians loss can be put up to biology. Quarians while being physically denser evolved on a planet where the environment worked together with their bodies resulting in their weak immune system. Humans on the other hand evolved fighting everything from bacteria to plants and animals to each other. Humans were just naturally better at fighting."
