Hi, third update in three days. I haven't written the next chapter yet. I have ideas about how to write it but don't expect it to be on here before the weekend. Reviews would be nice, especially if you have any ideas for the next few chapters. (You can also message me privately if you want).

Chapter 28

Prometheus POV

We'd continued in a sort of pattern for the next seven months. We'd eaten breakfast together, practised writing, looked at the fighting, he went hunting if necessary, and I drew on any surface I saw. Once he returned from hunting he'd tell me what he'd heard from the nymphs nearby, how bad was the war and who was winning were the main bits. He'd always sneak food, where our mother still lived, while mum was treating the sick. He'd also sneaked in letters I'd written to her for the both of us. Even at five years old I still had better handwriting than my brother's. I'd told her we were fine, we were missing her (and the other titans) and that we hoped the war would end soon.

About six months after the start of the war, for my birthday, my mum had left a note for my brother to take along with two small cupcake she'd made for us to share. The fact that she'd taken the time, in a middle of a war, to make them and the fact we'd both hadn't had chocolate in six months made it even more special. Neither of us commented on the fact it was squished and looked a bit burned.

We'd read the note of course and it started with her telling us that she'd missed us but neither of us should go near camp again (though of course she'd mentioned she was thankful for the food). She went on to wish me a happy birthday and to tell me sorry she couldn't get me a gift but that she'd hoped we'd like the cupcakes she'd made for us. She told us she loved us and again she told my brother not to risk going to camp again and told me that, even though I was now six years old, not to get any ideas about leaving the cave. I didn't leave the cave until the end of the war but my brother had to go hunting and of course he didn't stop sending her food. I kept sending my letters and we thanked her for the cakes in it.

One night however things were different. It was now seven months after the start of the war. The day before had been the usual fighting spree but it was apparent that both sides were tiring quickly. My brother had made me a glass object two years ago and had given it to me a week ago once he took it from our house. It made things appear closer than they were and I'd used it to look at the war and draw each God or Goddess I saw. The day had been stormy as all days had been recently. We had enough food in my opinion but my brother told me that we needed to store more in case the storm got worse and he couldn't go outside. I knew he wanted to make sure our mother was okay as well.

I was sat drawing and I noticed it was getting darker. This worried me not because I was afraid of the dark (which I wasn't), but because my brother had not yet returned and soon it would be too dangerous for him to make the climb up in this rain. I lifted my glass device up to see if I could spot him. Just as I did lighting struck somewhere down in the village, where we'd once lived. I quickly moved back in fright in case someone saw me but it was too late.

I hadn't noticed but an angry God was hiding in the shadows of the trees. His father had told him to rest but he'd wanted to join in the fighting. From his angle he could see me perfectly but I couldn't see him. The lightning had reflected on my glass object and caught his eye. He hadn't seen me personally because I'd hidden but the light glimmer was enough to catch his eye.

I'd realised all this later but before I even knew that I cowered in my cave unsure whether my brother had been caught and whether or not I'd been seen. I'd heard climbing noises begin after 15 minutes of waiting. I knew it wasn't my brother because he was quieter and there was no place to hide in the cave so I looked over the edge.

Ares must have flitted (for a lack of better word) across the plains as he was now half way up the mountain. Gods and Titans both had the power to go super fast when needed to but it was usually used for running as it was practically impossible to climb using that power. I and my brother hadn't used it as it left a trace for a while and was easily detectable. We had not wanted to be caught. Ares however had no such problem and was now climbing up the mountain.

He was only one year older than me but that did not reassure me as he was a lot bigger and stronger. I knew he could easily win in a fight against me but I picked up a dagger anyway. My brother had used it to skin the fish but I could use it to defend myself a little.

I went further back into the shadows of the cave; if necessary I would have the element of surprise as well as a place to hide if he didn't notice me.
