Disclamier: Naw, Twilight ain't mine… sighs
A.N.: Okay! Here's chapter 7! If anyone asks me: "When will this fanfic end?" My answer is simple: whenever my imagination runs out of cool ideas. I might add that this is my longer fanfic till this day that is released! And also, the one with the bigger amount of reviews by far! Thanks so much guys, for that! You rock!
Anyway, enough of talk… ENJOY!
We went to our classes. What else could we do? It was hard work pretending not to be nervous. If we seemed nervous, suspicions would grow even more. We had to stay calm.
Impossible.
Edward, Alice, Jasper, Emmett and Rosalie were taking the play very well. They'd had centuries of time to practice. But I was having trouble in controlling my nerves.
I could see, as we left the cafeteria, that Jacob's arms were trembling, so I knew I wasn't the only one who was troubled.
"What will we do?" I hissed to Edward, during our biology class.
"Nothing. For now," he said, too low for any human ears. "What could we do anyway?" he asked, when he saw my disapproval at not doing anything
"I don't know!," I wailed. "I'm so sorry, Edward! I should've been more careful…"
"Don't worry about that, love. They have no proof that we did anything, right?"
"Right," I agreed, nodding
"So they can't do anything."
I thought about that. If they didn't have proof, they couldn't throw me in prison. Not that if they did, that would stop me, but it would make life more difficult, and we would have to move again… but with no proof… they could do absolutely nothing. Nothing at all.
I smiled at Edward, nodding again. "You're right."
He wasn't listening to me. His head was turned in the direction of the door, his eyes unfocused. He tensed.
"Bella, quick!"
"What?," I asked, confused.
"Alice just passed outside. She wanted to tell me something… apparently the head is going to ask you to go to his office after this class. We need to make up a story for you to tell them. You already told the girls Sarah had gone to our house…" he cut off, thinking
"How about… she went to our house, and Alice drove her home? That would take Alice in there, too. Then she can see which words will work, and which won't…"
"Yeah… that sounds good. It would also be very helpful I were in there… hmm…"
"Well, Alice drove her home, but she wanted to talk to you… only you were… sleeping already. So she spoke to me, asked me to pass on the message she had for you. Then, since she'd come by taxi, Alice insisted in driving her home."
"Perfect, Bella! They'll want me in there, to check what the message was; to see if you're saying the truth."
"Exactly."
"Okay. And now we need a message. We have English together, and we were partners in a project… so the message was about that. She wanted to tell me she had done the base lines, and wanted me to look at it, to see if I agreed with it," he said, quickly scribbling something in his notebook while he spoke. "And here," he lifted the piece of writing, "is the base. She gave it to you, and you passed over to me this morning," he said, smiling.
I smiled back at him.
The rest of the hour flew past. When I left the class next to Edward, sure enough, the head was there.
"Miss Hale?"
"Yes, Mr. Burn?," I asked, looking innocent. He blinked twice and shook his head.
"Would you mind coming with me to my office for a moment?"
I put on a shocked face.
"Sure, Mr. Burn. May I know why?"
"I assure you it won't take long."
I smiled at him widely, though without showing my teeth too much.
"Oh, well then, that's okay. I really didn't want to miss Calculus. But since it won't take long…" I shrugged and smiled again.
"I… yes. Well… follow me, please," he said, looking a bit disorientated
I smiled. It made a difference when you were stunning.
"I'll see you soon," I told Edward. I kissed him lightly, and walked after Mr. Burn down the corridor. I passed Alice on the way, and winked at her. "Look for Edward," I mouthed at her. She nodded.
The director's office wasn't very big, but it had a window, and that was a problem. Why did this specific room have to have a window turned to the only side of the city by which the sun appeared? All the rest of the school was completely under the usual clouds. I noticed there were two chairs. Only one was in the sun. I knew my long sleeved shirt would protect all my arms and my neck, but not my face. I sat in the chair in the shade, watching warily as the faint glimmer of sun on the chair next to me shined dimly off my hands. I sighed in relief. It was no stronger than what Nessie glimmered in the sun. Nothing incriminating.
Mr. Burn was looking slightly uncomfortable as he directed his gaze at me. I smiled at him.
"Well… Ms. Hale… we have… a… did you know Miss Sarah Light?"
"Sarah? Sure. She sits at our lunch table."
He studied me with his blue eyes. I put on a confused face.
"Hm," he said curtly. "And do you know why she didn't come to school today?"
I shook my head no.
"I see."
"May I be so bold, Mr. Burn… but why?"
"Very well, Miss Hale. You see, two boys came to talk to me during lunch today. They told me something… something that, according to them, you said to your boyfriend. Edward, correct?"
I nodded. "What did they tell you that I said, Mr. Burn?" I asked, sounding curious.
"They said you'd killed Miss Light."
Shock passed through my features. I hadn't said that!
"I didn't say that!" I told him, still shocked. Were those boys deaf?
"Well, they didn't say it quite like that," he murmured.
"How did they say it, Mr. Burn?"
"They told me you'd said that no one hit on your husband and lived to tell the story," he said, looking extremely uncomfortable.
"My husband?," I asked, sounding confused. "I'm not married, Mr. Burn," I told him, surprised. The humans didn't know I was married to Edward. I was, rhetorically, too young to be married. And he was even younger than me… or that's what everyone thought, at least.
"Yes… well…"
"Well… if they got that bit wrong, why wouldn't they have got the rest wrong, too?" I asked politely, but hopefully.
He deliberated for a few minutes, then nodded. I exhaled.
"Yes. You're right, Miss Hale. You may go now. I'm sorry for the inconvenience."
I flashed my best smile at him. He swayed a bit, and I smiled smugly.
"No problem, Mr. Burn," I told him. "I understand… you have to do what's the best for the school, right?"
"Y…yes. Yes, you're quite right, Miss Hale."
"I'll see you around, Mr. Burn," I said, waving at him, and winking. He looked stunned, and I fought back laughter while I turned and left his office.
Edward was just outside the door. He looked at me, smiling. He'd been listening.
"You're extremely good at this, you know?," he mused
"At what?," I inquired
"Being a Cullen," he told me, his smile even wider.
I smiled back. "Thanks. I was afraid I wouldn't be up to the job."
We laughed together.
"But his face really was priceless," I said, through giggles. We were already in the parking lot.
He just nodded, still smiling.
"Can I or do I want to know what he was thinking?," I asked, curious.
He smirked down at me. "You can, but won't. And you do want, but again, you won't."
I grumbled. "Please?," I said, batting my eyelids at him
He laughed. "You know that doesn't work with me, love."
"I know. But hope is the last to die," I said, then sighed, as a boy smacked into a lamppost after my flapping of eyelids session. Edward burst into laughter.
I rolled my eyes and slid into the passenger seat of the Volvo.
"What's the joke?," Jacob asked from the back seat.
"Same as usual," I told him
He laughed. "You mean another guy rolled down two flights of steps because he didn't see the steps there, until he was falling down them, since he was too busy looking at you?"
I grimaced at the memory. "Not exactly. He just banged into a lamppost this time," I informed him.
Jake laughed again, and I heard Renesmee giggle. I glowered. Ever since I'd been allowed to be around people by Carlisle, boy, men - even married men - had had a growing amount of accidents, because they were looking at me. While I thought it was a bit bothering, but still very flattering, I really couldn't see what all the fun was about. Jacob, Jasper, Edward and Emmett all seemed more than amused whenever one of these accidents. It was nerve-racking.
"Dad, why are we leaving school early today?," Nessie asked from behind me
"Because we're moving again," he told her.
"Cool! Where to?"
I looked at Edward too, then. He shrugged.
"We'll have to talk to Carlisle first. Probably Alaska, though."
"Alaska will be cold," she said, grimacing
The four of us laughed. Not one of us was bothered by temperatures. Nessie was the only one was still a bit uncomfortable in too cold or too hot places. But not half as affected as a human would be. Alaska would be just fine for her. For all of us. As long as I could keep my huge mouth shut.
I was a bit afraid of the other's reaction to us having to move again, so soon. Especially Rose.
Thankfully, however, when we got home, I discovered I wasn't the only one who wasn't exactly fond of New York City. Alice and Rosalie had their luggage ready, by the door. Esme was upstairs, and I could hear she was packing.
"Bella! How did it go?"
"Just fine," I said
Edward laughed. "The man was so dazzled by her, he didn't even try to not agree with her," he told them. We all laughed at that.
"Carlisle, where are we going?," Rose asked
"I'm not quite sure."
"Alaska?," I suggested
A.N.: Sooo! As promised, chapter 7! And even before Sunday!
Okay, so I don't know how many of you saw my new fanfic Blue Moon? It's also an AU Twilight story, and I'd appreciate immensely if you guys would be ever so kind as to read it… then tell me your thoughts? ;). Thanks!
And, since this is a Twilight story, I'll ask y'all… what did you think of Rob's song? - And what about Decode (Paramore)? I'm a fan of Paramore, so I'm super excited to see two songs of theirs on the soundtrack ;). Personally, I think December (sadly enough, here in Brazil, the film will only be released on the 19th of December… complete injustice, but whatever…) is just taking far too long to arrive! /. I'm going with a huge crowd of Twilight fanatic friends of mine… I think we'll be about 10, all together! We want to make t-shirts and all… this film will totally rock!
Right, so to the review thanks now… (I'd like to add here… there was this one review in a language other than English, and I only won't answer it because I didn't understand it, but still… thanks for reviewing!)
Fangirl12: Thanks! Well… with no trouble, it would end up being a bit boring, right? ;)
2-10-11eyesFINGERStoes: I'm sorry about that confusion! I hope I explained it well in this chapter
chocoholic4eva: Haha! There, I hope this chapter lived up to your expectations! No Bella-busting ;) The moving will be in the next chapter… I'm not still quite sure where I'll send them to, though… lol
Okie dokies then… Smile always… and I'll see you all in the next chapter!
Peace,
Mandy
