Hey all ;) This chapter will include my first major OC I plan on adding into the story, it will also include other characters perspectives near the end. Not much plot I think really happens in this chapter, but it foreshadows a lot of future plot in my opinion and gives out some interesting lore in this AU, just slight little snip bits though. Hope yall enjoy :)
Lucy woke up in the morning with a slight headache. A slight throbbing sensation went through her skull as she stretched her arms and gave out a big yawn.
She groggily reached for the curtains around her bed and pulled them back, Revealing the greenly lit interior of the room. The color had thrown her off for a while, but she had gotten used to it.
She was surprised to see that she was not the first, nor the second girl awake in her room. Daphne was getting ready to wash up, and Pansy was already doing her hair and getting ready in the mirror.
Lucy slowly got up and felt her head pound more as she did so. Deep somewhere in the back of her head she felt something else too. But she couldn't put a finger on what it was.
She got ready with the other girls, which made Pansy shine out with happiness, she always complained Lucy got ready to early. Lucy just smiled and listened silently while Pansy and Daphne talked about cute boys, classes, and untrue facts they believed because of their pure blooded heritage.
"That Granger girl is getting on my nerves, I mean who does that little piece of mud think she is." Lucy heard Daphne say with distaste in her voice. "I wonder who's magic she had to steal to become one of the top in our year."
Lucy had learned not to comment or speak when they spoke on blood topics. She just took in a deep breath and continued to do her hair in the mirror.
Though not everything went her way today unfortunately.
"She's not a real witch, she's just pretending. Besides, Lucy here does much better in her classes than her, don't you? Pansy said while giving Lucy a smile and a wink.
Lucy gulped not knowing how to respond to the situation. "I mean... I'm sure I'm not that good..." Lucy stuttered out in confusion.
"Oh come off it, all the points you've gotten for our house, and every teacher loves you. That's what happens when you have blood like Parkinson's, Potters, or any other magical family." Daphne said while rolling her eyes.
Lucy merely gave a faint obviously half hearted smile, she was once again reminded of who the people she had befriended actually were.
Soon the conversation switched to plans the girls had for when the winter holidays came. Lucy smiled as she thought of her families usual holiday traditions.
Everyone came over to their house two or three days before Christmas, and there was a grand feast to be had. She knew this year Uncle Sirius would be getting back from his long stay in America.
It had been a few years since she had seen him, he had said at the time when he left that he was going through some rough times, and needed to rediscover himself, That had been three years ago.
He always made sure to send Harry and Lucy presents though. He would also send a howler just in time for the winter get together, the letter would always proudly shout about what he had been doing recently across the ocean.
"Oh Lucy, you might get an invitation this year!" Pansy suddenly shouted causing pain to shoot through her head once again.
Wha.. What are we taking about? Lucy asked while holding a hand up to her pained forehead. "Why do I always get interrupted when I'm thinking?" She silently thought to herself.
"The Malfoy's Yule ball, they hold one every year. All of us in Slytherin, and some kids from other houses, attend every year." Pansy explained while having a look of wonder on her face as she described it.
Lucy giggled at her friends dreamy expression, before she let a small smile form on her face. "I would love to Pansy, but my parents would never let me. Being in Slytherin is one thing, but going to a place like the Malfoy's... that's a complete other thing entirely." Lucy said while shaking her head.
Pansy's face quietly went to a bored frown as she looked down to the ground. "Why did you have to be born a Potter Lucy? If you would have been born my sister, it would make life easier." She said sadly.
Lucy felt a mix of hurt and happiness from Pansys comment. She felt hurt that her friend didn't like her being a Potter, even if it were for dumb reasons like not being able to go to a ball. But she also felt a warmth in her cheeks that Pansy would want her as her sister.
"Well, the holidays are still a long time away, maybe you can convince them?" Daphne said while observing her nails and getting her supplies gathered.
"Yeah... Maybe..." Lucy said while doing the same.
-(The great hall)-
When Lucy arrived to breakfast she was greeted by the similar sight of the Slytherin first year boys discussing something probably along the lines of quidditch. She also saw the two other half blood Slytherin students sitting with each other talking.
Lucy made a motion to go sit with them before Pansy snatched her hand and dragged her with the rest of them to sit in their usual spot.
Lucy wanted to protest, but she couldn't find it in herself to say no to Pansy. She was after all her first and closet friend she had really come to have.
As they sat Lucy couldn't help but notice the smug look on Draco's face. She also couldn't help but see how he wasn't taking his eyes off her.
"Draco, May I ask what has you in a wonderful mood today?" Lucy asked him while taking a bite into her eggs.
"Oh nothing, it's just I don't think your brother will be at Hogwarts much longer." Draco said before reaching across the table for pumpkin juice.
Lucy sighed and rolled her eyes at the boy, "You remember he's not being punished right, instead he's getting rewarded for being an idiot." Lucy said with annoyance clear in her voice.
"That's not exactly what I mean..." Malfoy said with a small smirk crossing his face. Lucy looked at him and was about to ask what he had done, but let a smirk cross her face as she saw the familiar unkept hair of her brother enter the hall.
Malfoy seemed to follow her eyes as he looked back at the dark haired boy in shock. While Draco quietly cursed to himself, Lucy took the time to reflect on what she had learned yesterday.
Lucy was still annoyed that her brother had been rewarded for his rule breaking, it just set her one step back in trying to make her brother more responsible. As she watched him sit at the Gryffindor table, she tried to get her mind off it and focus on more important matters. She needed to head to the library latter today to work on the paper due next week in Snapes class.
'Hey uh Lucy, you think you could help me with this." Lucy looked up to see the voice had come from Crabbe as he was currently looking down at what she knew was the history of magic paper due tomorrow.
"Crabbe, the paper is so easy, its basic history on magic in Rome." Lucy told him while shaking her head. She still took the paper and looked over what was written on it. Shaking her head she scratched out a few lines and told Crabbe what he had gotten wrong.
While she was discussing with Crabbe, she almost failed to notice that mail was arriving this morning, she held out her arm out of habit and felt as a familiar pair of talons latched on to her and dropped papers in her lap. She would have not noticed anything else off if it weren't for every kid in the hall pointing their finger.
Lucy looked up to see a group of six owls carrying a long skinny package towards the table clad in red. Lucy didnt have to look twice to guess what it was, or who it was for. Her eyes slowly fell upon her brother to see him staring up in wonder.
"He's got a broom, did your parents buy it for him Lucy?" Draco asked turning around looking quite flustered. Lucy shook her head, she knew mom would never get him a broom his first year, and she wasn't sure they even knew he was on the team yet. She felt her anger start to flare up more as she couldn't believe what her brother was receiving for breaking rules.
"God I hate Gryiffindors, Potter is the worst of them, no offense..."
"None Taken" Lucy said as she interrupted Zabini who was currently watching the spectacle a few seats over. She watched as her brother put down a note he had recieved and was taking the package outside the hall with Ron.
Lucy slowly stood up and followed the pair out, her headache she felt in the morning had suddenly come back and was pounding in her ears. She didn't care though, right now she felt the only way to feel better was to go and confront her brother and his stupidity. She was so caught up in her thoughts she didn't notice a certain malfoy get up to follow her.
Lucy had to do a bit of searching to find the two boys, but soon found them outside on the grounds crouched around their new package.
"Care to explain what that is? Lucy said while tapping her foot behind the two boys. Both Harry and Ron looked up to see her. Ron immeaditly frowned but Harry's face lit up.
"Lucy you won't believe this, it's a nimbus 2000, it's the fastest racing broom, way better than the come..." Harry started.
"Harry I don't care about what kind of broom it is, do you understand how lucky you are!? If any other teacher would have caught you, you could have been expelled." Lucy told him while stomping her foot into the grass. "If I were to have done it, I would have been punished." She added with annoyance in her voice.
"Yeah, but you wouldn't have would you? You don't want to go against your Slytherin buddies." Ron said looking up to her. "Don't ruin Harry's day just cause your jealous."
She looked at the boy with a look of amusement and annoyance. "Me jealous? Come now, I don't want to be on a quidditch team or have a broom." Lucy said with a laugh.
"Lucy, I know your annoyed, and ill admit I got lucky, but that doesn't mean you have to ruin this moment for me." Her brother said standing up off the ground. She saw that he had a sincere look in his eye, but that feeling deep inside her didn't care.
"You shouldn't be having this moment Harry, this moment should be in your second year, just like every other student." Lucy said clenching her fist up into little furious balls of anger.
"Oh will you piss off mate." Ron said while giving her a little shove while getting up. It really wasn't that strong or forceful, and it didn't deserve the reaction Lucy gave.
But she didn't care, she never liked Ron, and now he was crossing the line in her book. She took her leg and pulled it back aiming for where she knew it would hurt most. Harry looked in horror as he saw what his sister was about to do and Ron looked at her just in time to see his doom.
To any onlooker it would have been quite a humorous sight to see. The tiny form of Lucy Potter kicking Ron right in the Weasley family jewels.
Lucy smiled when Ron crouched over in pain, before turning to her brother. "Imagine the pain he just went through in an emotional form, that's what it would feel like to any other student after they got punished for what you did." She said while turning around to stomp off to the castle.
As Lucy turned to enter the castle, she was surprised to Draco at the door laughing. As she approached him he gave her a thumbs up through his fit of laughter. "That was too good Lucy really... I've always wanted to do that to him." Draco said while catching his breath.
Lucy let a small smile spread over her lips, she noticed that the headache and feeling she had all morning where both gone now after venting her frustrations. She allowed herself to laugh with Malfoy as they both walked back to the Great Hall. It was the first time she had been completely comfortable around the Malfoy heir, and it felt like a nice change to her.
-(Later in the Library)-
Lucy sat in her usual spot in the library, she had pretty much marked the spot as hers. She learned that once you were seen in the library enough, you gained the respect of the library kids, who were mostly Ravenclaws. She was currently reading an advanced potion books and was studying the effects that brewing during certain night and star patterns could have.
She was very interested in the current passage she was in, it was talking about the effects of brewing when Jupiter was most visible in the sky. She didn't quite fully understand it all, as it was about a fourth year level book, but she soaked up as much as she could.
While reading about a potion that could give the drinker the power to have unending stamina for a short period, she felt a small tap on her shoulder and looked up to see someone she didn't recognize. It was an older looking Ravenclaw student with dark brown eyes, shorter brown hair, and what seemed to be a small scar on his upper lip. He seemed to also have quite tan skin, which was strange for Ravenclaws who usually spent their time inside.
She stared at him for a bit longer than she liked to admit before he cleared his throat with a cough. She snapped out of her trance and looked back up to the boy.
"Ye..Yes? Can I help you?" Lucy asked as the older boy seemed to look down at her curiously. He gave Lucy a small smile before motioning towards her book.
"Ive been looking for that book the past few days Ive been in here, you don't mind if I borrow it for a bit do you?" He said with a warm smile. She noticed his eyes seemed very tired, but she thought it somehow went nicely with their color.
Making sure to make note of the page she was on, she closed the book. "O..Of course, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have taken a book so advanced without thinking other students might need it." She stuttered out with a slight look of embarrassment on her face.
He looked at her and gave a small chuckle as he took the book and flipped through it. "No need to apologize... I was just as curious when I was a first year." He muttered under his breath while pulling out a pair of glasses to put on his face.
Lucy watched as his sun touched fingers flipped through the book with ease. His face scrunched a bit as he read something on a page deep in the book, before his face began to relax again and he adopted a small smile."Just what I thought." He whispered to himself.
Lucy watched as he closed the book and gave her another smile while handing back the book. "Thank you Potter, I can finally turn in my paper without worrying if I messed up my facts." He said while gathering his things to leave.
Lucy looked at him confused, she was sure she hadn't told him her name. Before he left she called out to him asking him how he knew. Causing him to smile and raise a finger to his lips.
"I saw you get sorted Potter, did you forget?" He whispered while walking backwards slowly. "My name is Greg Hughes, If you ever need anything just find my table over there." He said while pointing over to the tables most Ravenclaws sat.
Lucy watched as he flashed her a toothy grin and slowly disappeared behind the rows and rows of shelves. Lucy stared a few more seconds at where the boy had been standing, then quickly shook her head to get back to her book. "Hughes..." She thought to herself as she dove deeper into the text at hand.
-(Later in the great hall)-
Lucy looked over to the Ravenclaw table to see the boy she had met in the library reading a book while holding a small conversation with a few first years. Ever since he had introduced himself to her, she had been wondering where she had heard his name from before.
She knew the last name Hughes wasn't one of the pure blooded houses, but she had heard it somewhere in her childhood before. She continued to stare at him and wonder until a certain sly Slytherin caught her distracted.
"Oooooohhhh, what are you looking at Lucy? See a cute boy somewhere?" Pansy sad leaning on to Lucy's shoulder to try to see what she was staring at.
Lucy merely shook her head at the girl and rolled her eyes. "I am looking at a boy, but not for the reasons your thinking Pansy." Lucy told her while taking a sip of pumpkin juice.
This only seemed to add fuel to the fire in Pansy's eyes. "You can't lie to me Lucy, it's perfectly alright for a lady your age from a house such as yours to be thinking about boys. Have to make sure You continue the line." Pansy said while giving her what she thought was a serious look.
Lucy merely coughed up the pumpkin juice that was in her mouth. She couldn't believe what was coming out of her friends mouth, they were both eleven. But after recovering from her coughing fit, she realized that those kind of things were welcomed in pure blood society. They even had things like arranged marriages and marriage contracts.
"Pansy, please don't take this the wrong way, but those kind of things I have no concern for right now. Besides I'm a girl, the potter name won't be carried to my children." Lucy said while thinking about it in her head, Harry was the heir to the potter family anyway, she had heard her parents mention it a few times, Lucy always guessed Harry had gotten lucky and been born first.
"Well that's not true, if you marry a woman, not saying that's your thing, their are magical ways to have children and then you cou..."
"Pansy please stop..." Lucy said interrupting the young heiress in her ramblings. She could feel her cheeks turning red as the rest of the Slytherin first years caught on to their conversation.
"Oh alright... who were you looking at though and why?" Pansy asked with a raised brow, still trying to connect the dots and find where Lucy had been staring.
"Well it's a boy I met in the library, and I know I've heard his last name before somewhere or maybe I've read it..." Lucy said while furrowing her eyebrows trying to remember.
"Well, I don't mean to brag, but I've spent my whole life studying all the houses and families of Europe, I could probably tell you about him." Blaise said suddenly joining the conversation.
"It's true, it's quite scary how much he can know sometimes..." The skinny boy Nott said while looking down at his fish he was currently eating.
Lucy considered telling them for a few seconds, she knew if she did Pansy would not give up on her idea of her having a crush, but she decided she could put up with it.
"It's him over there, his name is Greg Hughes." She said while pointing over to the Ravenclaw table. All the fellow first years looked back to see the boy except for Blaise, who gave a small smile.
"Ah the Hughes family, there a family that formed in the 1780's. And are actually an off branch from our very own Greengrass family" he said while looking over to Daphne a few seats over, who nodded her head.
"Amelia Greengrass, she went against the family and married a muggle born wizard, David Hughes. She was for a long time marked off our family tree." Daphne said while looking back at the boy.
"A long time, how did she get back on?" Lucy asked with a slight frown, she knew how extreme some families where with marking members out.
"Well, their child, a half blood, eventually married a pure blood, who's child married a pureblood. The family hasn't had another muggle in their line sense the first. They've all married half bloods, purebloods, and people in between blood wise." Zabini explained while putting on a serious face.
"Eventually the branch was considered pure enough for my family to accept them as a legitimate off branch. Ever since then we've invited them to family reunions and such." Daphne said while looking up as if pondering something. "I think he and his brother are just above eighty percent pure. If I've observed the family tree right." She added.
"Yes yes, but if your wondering where you've heard his name, I think I know where it would be from. His family has gained their wealth and prestige as farmers and potion brewers. Their ingredients they grow for potion making are some of the most trusted in Europe." Blaise said while pondering what else he could remember.
Lucy's face suddenly lit up in recognition. "Of course, my mom buys their ingredients all the time, they've also written so many essays that I've read on potion techniques!" She looked over once more to the boy, satisfied that she had gotten her answer and could let her curiosity finally rest.
"His brother also made quite the stir wh..." Blaise started to say before he was interrupted by a loud Pansy.
"So now that we have our information, I'll start asking my parents to talk to his to see what kind of things their looking for in a marriage contra..."
"NO, please Pansy don't do that." Lucy said frustrated with her friends ignorance. "I just wanted to know how I knew the name alright?"
"Sure whatever you say Miss Love maniac, but I can see right through you." Pansy said while crossing her arms. Lucy watched as her friend kept looking over to the boy and saying how it would be a good match, causing Lucy to cover her ears.
"Well away from the pointless love lessons your trying to give Pansy, guess what I saw Lucy do this morning." Draco spoke from across the table, causing Lucy to snort a bit at the memory.
"What, what happened?" Pansy asked looking amused at Lucy's expression. Lucy straightened herself up in her seat and cleared her throat while putting on an innocent face.
"Well... lets just say I gave a certain Weasley what was coming to them." She said while placing her hands under her chin. "It's not my fault he laid his hands on me."
"He did what my sweet little Lucy!" Pansy said while throwing her hands around Lucy. "Do we need to burn your clothes, Ill buy a whole new wardrobe to get rid of the contamination." She said in an over the top voice of worry. "Maybe, Ill have to ask Hughes to beat him up."
Lucy rolled her eyes and pushed the girl off as pansy smirked and chuckled to herself. As Lucy brought her pumpkin juice to her lips she let it be known that she didn't think the boy would be bothering her after her deadly aim. This caused a round of laughs around the group, which brought a warm smile to Lucy's face.
-(The Potter Residence)-
Lilly was currently fierce at work in the kitchen, James was having a long night, and she wanted to make sure he had a good dinner before sleeping tonight.
"They work him much to hard these days... there hasn't truly been a dark wizard needing catching since Patrick Hughes..." Lily thought to herself as she flicked her wand, causing the knives floating in the air to chop the carrots she had laid out on her cutting board.
Lilly continued to rush back and forth frantically from place to place, looking for her utensils she had forgotten. It was stressful work, but she was glad to do it for her wonderful husband, and family.
Her eyes went over to the family photo hanging on the wall in the kitchen, she saw the two young faces of her children beam back at her and wave.
She let a small smile cross her face, until it was slowly replaced with a frown. Based on what her children were writing her, they where not getting along. She couldn't say she didn't see it coming, her two children were complete opposites in many ways.
When she had learned that Harry was sorted into Gryffindor she was proud, but she did expect it. What she was not prepared for was to learn her little girl Lucy had been put into the snake pit. She remembered how long it took her to get James to calm down and not go to Hogwarts to confront Dumbledore and burn the sorting hat.
The two had to sit down and have a serious talk, because as much as she hated to admit it, she was worried for her little Lucy. First her getting the wand she did, and then getting sorted into Slytherin...
Her husband had suggested that they go and talk to Dumbledore about getting her special protection. But Lilly believed that Severus would look over her, they had after all finally come to terms and made up with each other a few years ago.
Her mind slowly drifted to the thoughts of the danger her children had faced through life.
Her mind slowly drifted back to that night, the night, when it had happened. She didn't know why her and James thought it would be safe to just go out for one day, and leave Harry and Lucy at her house with...
"Honey, is that your amazing cooking I smell?" The loud voice of James Potter exclaimed as he came through the front door. Lucy wiped her sad face off as she went to welcome her husband home with a warm smile. She could see the stress on his face and gave him a small kiss on the forehead.
"It just goes to show you the times we live in, making me work extra to catch some guy who probably got a bit to drunk and got a muggle hurt in the process." James let out with a sigh while looking down at his wife.
Lilly merely smiled up to him and gave him a smirk. "That's because all the bad wizards have been caught by you." She said while turning to go back to her work.
"That is not true, people like the Malfoy's are still out there, and need I remind you our daughter is friends with that lots children now." James called from the Dining room while throwing down his coat.
Lilly sighed deeply before looking over her shoulder. "James, we are not talking about this right now, our daughter has never had friends before, and she has finally found people she enjoys to be around. And the Malofy's were never found guilty." she said with a stern voice.
"Oh please honey, just because Lucius Malfoy treats you nice every time you come to the ministry, doesn't mean he's innocent. We where both in the order, we know its not possible he was being cursed." James said while walking in the kitchen, having to duck to not be sliced by the knifes in the air.
"And when I was very young, I would have said magic was not possible. So don't give me that, I'm not saying its true, but I'm saying its possible." Lilly said while stirring up some butter in a pan.
"Yeah, yeah... how are our two little trouble makers doing anyway?" James asked while rubbing his forehead, still feeling a slight headache from his lack of sleep.
"Our two troublemakers? I think Harry's been the only one to break rules so far, and from the letter we got yesterday, he's being rewarded. Honestly I don't know what Dumbledore is thinking letting him play, my poor little man is going to get hurt..."
"He will be fine honey, he's got my blood in him after.. GOD DAMN, the snakes are here again, why do they keep coming in our home." James said while jumping back from the closet he was opening.
Lilly let out a loud sigh of frustration before going to see indeed there was another snake. For the past two weeks they had been coming into the house, for what, neither of them knew.
'Ill take care of it honey..." She said with a tired voice, god how she missed her kids.
-(Malfoy Manor)-
Lucius Malfoy sat on one of the many expensive pieces of furniture in his house. He was currently staring into the fireplace thinking to himself, he found the fire gave him a state of mind to plan in. He had a lot on his mind, from ministry foolishness, to his upcoming yule ball in a few months.
He had been looking over the names of people he was inviting earlier in the day. It was more the same as it was every year, Most of the Pureblood families from England, and many others from across Europe would be attending. He was almost done making his list when his wife had come in to give him a letter from Draco.
"Draco" His pride and joy as a father. It surprised him how when he became a father, the way he thought and acted had changed in many ways. His son became one of his top priorities, he had given him tutoring on everything he would need in life. From magic to how navigate society, he had only provided his son the finest.
The letter he had received from his son was more the same as usual. He told his father of how his classes were, but in this one he also went into his friends and some of the times they had. Lucius smiled as he remembered his Hogwarts days.
His eyes stopped though when he saw a name he was not expecting in the letter. "Lucy Potter..." he said to himself as he looked down at the name. He was not aware that a potter had been sorted into Slytherin. His face became annoyed, he had ordered his son to report of anything interesting that happened at the school that could be used to their advantage.
He read further down and let his eyes raise in curiosity at how Draco described the young girl. She had apparently fit in quite well with the Slytherin crowd, despite her heiritage. Lucius didn't find this to hard to believe, one of his most trusted friends Severus had been a half blood as well.
That's when he saw something that really peaked his interest, near the bottom of the letter.
"I hope you would consider Inviting Lucy to the ball this year father, I think you and mother would be quite pleased to meet her, I just don't know how we would get her parents to let her come."
Lucius sat there and reflected on the memory of the note. He began to work out a plan in his head, yes, he could for sure get the potters to agree he thought to himself as he continued to stare into the blaze.
That's all folks, I thought his chapter was a bit boring when i first starting writing it, but as I said on the top, I feel like it hints to some interesting future plots, and also reveals a little bit of AU lore in the story that you the reader haven't got yet. Next Chapter will have a big time jump just like the actual book. With little bits of information about what took place over the jump and a summary of the time. Next chapter will take place during Halloween and the first quidditch match, or maybe not. I might make them two different chapters, or make a part one and two. Either way I'm looking forward to writing the next one a lot :D
I hope you are all enjoying the story and thank you to evilhyperpixe for the review, here's the next chapter for ya :D Let me know what yall think about the chapter.
I think I might start doing a bit more of these different character perspectives like I did in the end. Just to add a bit more background info about whats going on in the world and to give some foreshadowing. I also plan on my next chapter giving some info in the end on about how much I plan to add to this AU that's not in the original books. These big changes I don't have planned until like book three so it will still be a while until they matter.
I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, and remember to have a great day. (Also I know this chapter came out way sooner than I said it would, turns out I had a lot of free time on my hands because my plans got ruined or canceled, so more writing time yay!)
