Chapter 6
[January 21st, 4.45pm
Prosecutors Building, Room]
Apollo knocked on Klaviers door, he had a few questions that he needed answers to. The door opened and in the doorway stood the purple clad prosecutor.
"Ah come in Herr Forehead," He said with a smile, Apollo let out a sigh and entered the office. As he looked around Klaviers new office his jaw hit the floor.
"Wow. It's massive," He whispered in awe. The smile on Klaviers face vanished.
"Ja, but never mind my office. What can I do for you?"
"I wanted to ask you some questions actually. About Miss Barker?"
Klavier sighed and sat down at his desk. He motioned for Apollo to do the same.
"Good job on the trial today but I fear you have a long way to go in securing Miss Barkers innocence,"
"Thank you, that brings me to my first question actually. Why are you so concerned with her? I don't understand. Just what's the connection?," Apollo asked. Klavier leaned back in to his chair and closed his eyes.
"I owe her," He said in a voice barely audible. This answer confused Apollo.
"You owe her? For what? You're the richest man I've ever met, what-" Klavier held up a hand to silence Apollo. He leaned forward and in a hushed voice started talking.
"I can never make it right, not completely. I can however help her, she is innocent,"
Apollo noticed that his voice had a strange tone to it, a pained tone that failed to suit the usually over friendly prosecutor. He was on the verge of asked another question when his cell buzzed in his pocket. To his embarrassment the cells tone was none other than the Gavinners hit song 'Guilty Love'. Klavier smirked at the use of his song.
"Ah Herr Forehead, a fan at last ja?"
"N-no! Dammit, Trucy must have changed it," Apollo snapped in annoyance. The caller I.D read Phoenix's name and he clicked answer.
"Mr Wright?"
"Apollo, you need to come to the Hotti Clinic. Quick. It's Trucy..." Apollo's heart jumped in to his mouth and he felt sick all of a sudden. The break in Phoenix's voice sent chills down his spine.
"I'm on my way," He said before cutting the call off, "We're going to have to cut this conversation short. I've got to go to the Hotti Clinic, there's been an incident with Trucy," He stood up and rushed towards the door. Klavier stood up, grabbed his jacket and car keys.
"I'll drive you, it'll be quicker," Apollo thanked him and they immediately left for the clinic.
[January 21st, 5.32pm
Hotti Clinic]
Apollo and Klavier made it to the clinic as fast as they could and in no time they were stood in reception. Apollo was about to ask the receptionist for assistance when a hand grabbed him by the shoulder. He turned round and came face to face with a familiar face.
"M-Mr Edgeworth?" He spluttered.
"Mr Justice, Trucy's in room 36b. I suggest you head there now,"
"Yes. Thank you," Apollo thanked him and sped off in the direction of Trucy. Edgeworth and Klavier were left standing in the reception by themselves in an uncomfortable silence. They each took a seat and waited for any news.
"What brings you here Herr Edgeworth?" Klavier asked eyeing his fellow prosecutor.
"I found Trucy," Klavier nodded.
"What happened to the Fräulein? Is she going to be okay?," Edgeworth noted the concern in Klaviers voice and nodded.
"She will be okay, it'll take time. It would appear that young Miss Wright was poisoned," Klavier opened his mouth to say something but changed his mind and closed it again. Edgeworth went back to saying nothing.
[January 21st 5.46pm
Hotti Clinic, Room 36b]
Apollo found the room within a couple of minutes and lightly knocked on the door. When the door opened a young nurse walked out and smiled at Apollo.
"You must be Apollo? Mr Wrights been expecting you," She said as she moved out the doorway to let him go past. The nurse took her leave and disappeared down the corridor. As Apollo walked in to the room the first thing he noticed was the lifeless body of Trucy lying in the bed, a distraught Phoenix sat next to her stroking her arm.
"Mr Wright?" Apollo whispered, Phoenix looked up and gave him a sad hopeless smile.
"Apollo, you're here,"
"What happened? She was with me a few hours ago," Apollo asked. Phoenix cleared his throat.
"She went back to the office, Edgeworth came by the office and found her lying on the sofa. They think she ate some poisoned chocolates," Apollo frowned when he listened to the recent turn of events.
"I don't recall seeing chocolates at the office..." He said, more to himself than anything.
"Exactly. Someone must have entered the office with the intention of putting someone out of action," Phoenix surmised. Apollo shook his head, it just didn't make any sense.
"But why Trucy?" He asked.
"I don't think they were intended for her," Phoenix told him with a shake of his head.
"Then who?" Apollo asked, but the look on Phoenixs face gave him the answer.
"I think someone wants Miss Barker to get a guilty verdict,"
"How can you be sure?" Apollo asked.
"I can't but lots of awful things have happened recently. I have a feeling they're all connected. Anyway, there's nothing you can do here. You have a trial to prepare for. Come by tomorrow after the trial, I'll see you tomorrow. I'll phone you if anything changes,"
Apollo nodded and left Phoenix alone with Trucy. He had to admit he was a little freaked out by the though that someone had planted poison laced chocolates for his benefit. Phoenixs theory on someone wanting Miss Barker to receive a guilty verdict seemed a little far fetched but the was a nagging doubt in his mind that told him to trust Phoenixs judgement on this.
As he walked into the reception he was surprised to see both prosecutors still waiting. Both Edgeworth and Klavier sat up straight at the first sign of him and he made his way over to them.
"Herr Forehead, everything okay? How is the Fräulein?"
"She hasn't woken up yet, they say she'll be okay though," Apollo explained.
"That's good to hear. I've got something I need to see to, when she wakes up give her my best wishes," Edgeworth requested before leaving Apollo with Klavier.
"Why are you still here?" Apollo enquired. Klavier smiled broadly at him and Apollo felt second sense of dread that day.
"Herr Forehead, without the young Fräulein by your side I fear Miss Barker may be in trouble ja?" Klavier said as he clapped the young attorney on his back.
"Actually I have it all under control," Apollo responded trying to sound confident. Klavier laughed out loud causing the receptionist to glare in Apollo's direction. Apollo scowled.
"Oh is that so Herr Forehead? Then have you got any closer to discovering who framed her?" He asked already knowing the answer, "Ah, I thought not,"
"Then what do you suggest we do?" Apollo huffed.
"Well, look at the facts. She received a letter telling her where to go. We know there to be at least three people at the scene of the crime," He said looking at Apollo, who realised what we was getting at.
"Yeah. Miss Barker, the victim Laron Green and the witness Gill Teeman," Apollo mentally ticked them off one by one.
"Well ones dead, you can't talk to him and Miss Barkers innocent, so that leaves..." He paused waiting for Apollo to catch up.
"Teeman, we don't even now where to find him..." Apollo said glumly.
"I know where to find him. That big detective that hangs off Herr Edgeworths every word let it slip during conversation," Klavier grinned. Apollo sighed, Klavier would never be his first choice of investigative partners but at this moment he couldn't afford to be too choosy.
[January 21st 6.37pm
Location: Unknown]
A lone man sat seated at a table with a lit cigarette, every so often he would glance at his watch and shift in his chair uncomfortably. He was waiting on one of his contacts who was running late and that was not a good sign. He stood up and was almost on the verge of leaving when the door to the room he was in opened and he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Jeese man, where have you been? Did you do it?" He asked. The newcomer let out a deep laugh.
"Relax. I planted the chocolates in their office just like he wanted,"
"I'll relax when he's finally got his revenge and all this is over," The first person said anxiously.
"Well it would have been over soon had that idiot Green got the right person in the first place,"
"Yeah, his mistake has dragged a lot of people in to this mess,"
"His mistake has brought things forward. He planned to back at everyone who took away his freedom eventually,"
"That's quite a few people..." The first person wondered just how long this vendetta would go on for.
